Anja told Opeila that she had participated in the dance of the bushpeople errand that had been organized by the groundskeeper. "I think I have missed that one. That was where you had to make clothes out of flowers and stuff, right?" That had been nothing for the young second year. Most of the time she was open to trying things out, but that... It had just sounded a bit to silly to her although she could totally imagine that some people might enjoy it. No one was forcing her to participate...
Opeila chuckled at Anja's thought that the groundskeeper was a bit crazy. "Honestly, I think so too. I've participated in one of his errands, which had been a bit of a personal emergency I think. Apparently he bought a lot of Flobberworms without thinking of preparing them a little spot to survive. So I got to babysit a big magical worm for a day. Have you joined that one as well?", she explained. It had been a fun day that she had spent with Ileen and a Ravenclaw girl, Aly.
She left Anja to her conversation with Aspen when Kazuo greeted her.
Good, it had been the right word.
Opeila's knowledge of japanese was non-existent and she was quite relieved that she at least got the greeting right. Was it even japanese? Or... korean or something? She would find out one day. Or not. The Slytherin didn't care enough to embarass herself by asking the Hufflepuff.
"Always. What if one of those is going to be our life savior in a few years when we have to study for O.W.L.s or N.E.W.T.s?" She playfully shook her head and pulled her bag off the free chair to her left, an unspoken invitation for the boy to take a seat or leave it be.
When Miss Finley spoke up, Opeila was again glad that she hadn't brought Loras, she didn't seem too pleased with all the animals in the library. Surprisingly many had decided to bring their pets with them. Well, it was certainly relieving to hear that the future of their school career didn't depend on the books they were going to try to fix today.
Not that Opeila wouldn't do her best to keep her book unharmed anyway, but it made the whole errand a little less stressful. Letting her gaze wander over the tools on the table, a little smile appeared on her face. That was promising to be amusing. There was glue on the table, how long could it possibly take some students to accidently make their fingers stick together?
The Slytherin carefully listened to the librarian's instructions, eager not to miss anything important, but it actually didn't seem to be that much of a big deal. Opeila raised her hand. "Miss Finley?" If the woman allowed her to speak, Opeila would continue. "Assuming that we're using normal glue for practicing purposes- Wouldn't the gluing spell be more effective?" The second year understood the purpose of doing things the more difficult way for the purpose of learning, it was a question asked out of mere curiosity.

Where to start... That was always the hardest part when dealing with anything that was in need of lots of repair. When something was so ruint as the book selected for restoration; locating the place to start repairs was very overwhelming. Usually you started at the area that looked the worst, and then slowly worked your way around from there. However, one could not start in the "worst area", if the whole object was simply horrible. Sometimes there was a way to get around the overall horribleness by first learning how an object was supposed to work. Xailah liked gadgets for that specific reason. She always had an idea of what function they were supposed to provide, and how to get them back into working condition. But this object in her hands was no watch, or music box, or some other fancy whizgig with winding parts. It was a book. Books have no real function other than to provide knowledge. They do not tick, or purr with the sounds of artificial life. They cannot produce the warm click that comes from a beating mechanical heart- the telltale sign of an oddity that still has some juice in it.
An unsettled frown began to materialize. The corners of Xailahs mouth gave a small tug downwards, before springing back up into a firm and neutral line. She ran an unfeeling hand over the scarred cover of her book, the barrier of fabric covering her palms prevented her from feeling the depth of the crisscross lacerations. She fingered one corner where the clothed cover had begun to fray, giving view of the compressed board that was meant to protect precious innards. The voice of the librarian halted Xailahs inspection of her chosen tome- only long enough to consider what the bookkeeper had to say.
There would be distractions other than that of the librarians instruction. The strident creak of the library door; the clicking of heels, and shuffling of legs. All were distractions. As time progressed, Xailah began to feel uncomfortable with the addition of each new presence. She never bothered to peer up at any of the arrivals; just mentally noted their entrance into the library. Lines in the form of uncertain anxiousness, riddled themselves across the Gryffindors face. This errand was supposed to be a relaxing one; yet here she was, getting all stressy. Why did books have to be so overwhelming? Stiffly, she scooped up all the materials she had gathered beforehand, and made her way to the door with frigid impetus. Maybe she could try fixing the book at a later time.

-─────────────────────────post tracker | xThe redhead girl from the train - what was her name, Scarlett? - didn't seem at all opposed to Everly, which she was grateful for. Everly grinned at her compliment, glancing down towards Tzahala. "This," she said proudly, "is Tzahala. She's my cat companion. Content cat companion. Cheerful cat companion?" Everly mused lightly.
Much to Everly's relief, Scarlett quickly explained what to do. Everly got to work. She was clueless at first, and it took her a few tries to get it - who knew that this... thing was so sticky? - but she managed to somewhat grasp the concept. Everly made a mental note to properly learn how to fix books later in the future. She glanced several times towards Scarlett's book as well as the other Gryffindor girl - who, for the time, seemed to only talk to Scarlett, which didn't bother Everly as much - comparing hers to theirs, and trying to fix hers up.
It went... decent.
Everly's head was tipped, examining another book when another's presence caused her to look up. Another Gryffindor - wowee, Everly's interactions were limited - had approached, with a cheerful smile on her face. Scarlett quickly exchanged introductions, and Everly sent a little wave towards Gia. "This is Tzahala!" Everly said, nudging the cat affectionately.
Gia then proceeded to ask how to fix the books - no worries, Gia! Super Totally Experienced Everly was here to save the day, taught only a matter of minutes ago by Scarlett. "So, you use these things -" Everly waved a hand at the glue and tape and thread "- to stick the torn pieces together - and they're extremely sticky, by the way. You use that white liquid thing to stick this -" a pointing finger at her book's spine "- and the strips of clear things to put these together -" she waved a hand at a slightly torn up page "- and those strings to fix it. Rebind it. Or something." A bright smile showed exactly how confident Everly was in her instructions.
Finishing up the second book she was working on, Everly reached for another one. Wincing slightly at the sight of the dangling cover and the mess of pages that had been roughly shoved back inside, Everly felt a pang of sympathy for the librarian. Even if books weren't exactly her favorite, she could see how it would hurt so much to see books ripped in shreds.
With a small sigh, Everly reached for the glue.word count | 401

Mentioning ❃ Nobody
Interacting ❃ Very slight interaction with @Robyn Finley
She had signed up for this errand, was expected to show up, and now she was going to be late. In fact, she was already late. Tory had signed up for the TLC (Tender Library Care) Errand the second she had found out about it, because as somebody who spent hours everyday in the Hogwarts library, she could definetely agree that the books neeeded some serious repair. Of course, any books would after being in the same dusty library for decades.
Technically the errand didn't have a specific time that it started, just after lunch, but lunch had ended 20 minutes ago, so Tory already assumed she would be one of the last participants to arrive. She had just had to grab something quickly from her dormitory after lunch, and expected to get to the library fairly soon after that, but then she had gotten caught in a swarm of incoming students, gotten stuck on a moving staircase, and, well, here she was.
The lion pushed the library doors open, stepping into the large room. As she had expected, many students had already came and were busy with old tattered books and glue. Most people she saw were just blurry faces from passing in the hallways, and as for the few smiles that were familiar, they were all in some conversation that Tory didn't want to insert herself into. Giving the librarian who organized the errand, Ms.Finley, a small smile and wave, as well as saying a quick "Hullo", Tory sat herself at the table.
Since the first year had absolutely no idea what she was doing, she just decided to sit and observe what the rest of eager book-repairing students were doing for a minute. Some people around her were just chatting and petting their animals, and others looked very utterly confused about what they were supposed to be doing in the first place.
She watched as many used these clear little pieces of who-knows-what to bind the ripped pages back together, and this white globby stuff, glue, to mend the covers. Tory only knew what glue was because while she had been left alone for hours at a time as a child, she really had to get creative, which sometimes meant scrapping around the house for glue and making flower crowns or other arts and crafts. Anyways, if there was one thing Tory was sure about, it was that this errand had no magic involved in it.
After sitting and analyzing her peers actions, Tory had a sort of good idea of what she had to do, and reached into the center of the table, grabbing a book about jinxes, hexes, and curses (or so she thought, the lettering was quite chipped so it wasn’t very readable),that looked like it had been around sicne the jurassic ages. It had a mossy green cover, and the entire binding on the side seemed to be hanging on by a single piece of fabric.
Flipping through the pages to check for damage carefully, the first year sighed. It was so sad to her to how somebody could treat a book like this in the first place. It wasn’t just age that took a toll on these amazing pieces of literature, it was also the way people treated them. Based on the cover and many ripped pages of this one, though, you could think somebody used it as a quaffle in a quidditch game, dropped it into the Great Lake, tried to dry it off but made it worse in the progress, and then did it the entire thing over and over and over.
Carefully, Tory picked up a glue bottle from the table, and very slowly, she lifted the piece of binding just enough so she could squeeze a line of the sticky substance onto it. She placed the spine back down and pressed it lightly against the book, holding it there for a few seconds before pulling her hand back and smiling softly at her handy work. Now for the large amount of ripped pages.
The Gryffindor first year leaned back in her chair again, observing her surroundings. She watched as another girl who looked around her age gripped a black looking thing with a clear roll inside of it. There seemed to be sharp, pointy, edges on the long side of this strange black tool, and the girl ripped off a piece of the clear stuff with it, then using it to put something together.
Following the steps she had just seen, Tory got in possession of the still unnamed black thingy and rolled the little roll, then pulling off a piece on the pointed end, just like she had the girl do. She cracked the book open, flipping to a page with a large rip that reached halfway down the middle. She placed the sticky clear stuff onto the damage, rubbing her thumb over it until decided sturdy enough. For the next couple of minutes or som Tory repeatedly did this cycle, rip the tape first, then find a page with a rip, and simply place the tape over the rip. Even without magic, Tory thought that this errand was very fun. It wasn’t especially exciting or exhilarating, but in Tory Williamson’s opinion, very satisfying and relaxing.
There was just something so extremely calming about sitting there in a comfortable leather chair, repairing books, while the dim library windows let beautiful rays of spring light into the dust covered room. If it weren’t for the low buzz of chatter in the library currently and her determination to fix more books, Tory would have probably fallen asleep right there, right then, in her chair. For somebody who absolutely despised having to go to bed and put her eyes to rest, she sure did want to close her eyes for a quick minute of afternoon shut-eye right now.
Back to fixing books, Tory! She snapped to herself mentally, letting go of her drowsy daydreams and looking down at her still incomplete book repairing job. In the same motion as she had done the first, second, third, fourth...seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth time, she ripped the tape off the little spikes and pressed the tape against the curved looking rip in the book. How in the world does a book even get these many rips? She asked herself, delicately shutting the front cover and blowing off all the leftover dust casually laying on it. Jerking it towards the main pile, she got herself another one to fix up.
No matter how dusty, no matter how broken the spine, no matter how ripped up the pages, Tory would fix any book she needed to. Anything to fix the library. Anything to clean up the things she loved the most in this world (other than her mother, of course).

@Scarlett Aden @Everly Charlton | Briefly mentioning @Robyn Finley
────────────────────────── ♫ ──────────────────────────When she was introduced to the other Gryffindor by Scarlett, Gia nodded. "Your name is so pretty!" she commented, smiling at Everly. It was kind of fun meeting all sorts of new people with different, unusual names here at Hogwarts. Last names tended to be the weirdest, in Gia's mind, but she had met a few people with funny first names as well. Not that her first name and last name were common, but still. Wizarding world people's names were all sorts of odd and out of the ordinary, she thought.
Hearing Everly speak again in response to her question about the cat sitting on her lap, Gia focused her attention on the girl once more. "Ooh, cool!" she said with another grin. "Can I pet her?" If the other first year agreed, Gia would reach out a hand towards the cat and gently stroke the top of her head. Cats really were quite cute, she thought, although dogs could also be very adorable. Puppies especially. She hadn't seen many dogs - or puppies - at Hogwarts so far, though, she realized. Cats did seem to be more. . . witchlike, in a sense, so maybe that was why? In many of the old fairytale books or fantasy book Gia had read over the years, cats had been the main pet of magical people.
Focusing back on the matter at hand, Gia asked if Scarlett or Everly knew how to fix the books. She was pretty sure the librarian would give a demonstration in a bit, too, but she wanted to get started right away since others had clearly already begun. "Oh, okay, got it!" the first year replied when she received Everly's energetic instructions. Glancing down at the book in front of her, Gia debated what supplies she would need to fix the book. The stuff that rebinds it, she realized. The cover needed to be put back on and reconnected to the rest of the book - that had to be rebinding, right? Hoping she was correct in these assumptions, the brunette picked up the thread and began to use that to fix it it.
Around the time that she was halfway done with binding her first book, the librarian began to explain what to do with the equipment laid out in front of them. Pausing in her work to listen, Gia learned a few more things, like what the plastic sticks were for and how exactly to use the thread - because yes, she had been doing it slightly wrong before this. When the demonstration was over, and - Ms. Finley, was it? - began walking around again, Gia quickly got back to work finishing up fixing the book with the lilac cover that she had picked up a while before.
Once she was done with that, the girl looked around at the others beside her and saw that many had already fixed multiple books. Most were at least halfway through their second, and some were already on their third or fourth! Realizing that fixing that one book had probably taken a lot longer than it should have, Gia hurried to get on with fixing up another one. This time, it was a copy of the Tales of Beedle the Bard with many, many pages ripped and a bunch of pages folded. There wasn't anything to rebind on this one, luckily - the young Gryffindor was almost certain that it had been the rebinding part that had taken her so long with the first. Picking up the book tape once more, she started working again, a little more hurried this time.
Clearly, even if it was something as inconsequential as fixing up books, the girl didn't like to be beaten by others.Word Count: 478 + 616 = 1094/1000

To be honest, it came to Elisabeth Erner as a surprise when she was called to the school library to help Professor Robyn Finley repairing a heap of books together with several other students as well (How many of them were in total? Nineteen? Twenty? Twenty one? Bueno, sí: aproximadamente este número... *) And at last minute, too!
The Hufflepuff was not prepared at all for this news; she was resting in her dorm when the news came, carefree-ly sketching a new gown (pretending one day she would own one like that, of course) with her moggie Chanel on her lap. When she noticed that she was chosen to come immediately, the girl shouted, "¡Qué!" ** - but only in her head, so no one else could hear it but herself.
What she really did was slightly jolting, as if she performed a quarter jump (because it was not even a half one). This gave Chanel a slight rock and the cat meowed disapprovingly, jumping off Elisabeth's lap and took a spot in the corner of the dorm instead, mischievously showing the first-year who was queen.
"You didn't even dare thinking about doing that to me when you still lived in the animal shelter," Elisabeth pretended to be annoyed with Chanel's choice of action as she threw an ivory button down and a purple knee-length skirt, the first set of "going-out" clothes she could lay her hands on (she was in her "house clothes" all this time, so of course she had to change before stepping out of the dormitory). "You don't even do such thing to other people."
The moggie did not make a sound, but she did give her human an innocent look and Elisabeth had to grin, another victim of a cat's hypnotic eyes. It was her mamá who told her about cats' secret super power to hypnotise human beings to fall in love with them, but the lady herself said this with an adoring look at the felines so Elisabeth was not sure whether it was a fact. One thing was clear though, she did not blame her mamá or herself or any other cat person for willingly succumbing themselves to felines. They were just too smart and too cute.
Enough with Chanel for the moment; she had books to repair.
After a quick glance at the mirror to make sure that her shoulder-length dark hair looked neat enough, Elisabeth dashed out of her dorm and the Hufflepuff common room, straight to the Hogwarts library.
When the Belizean arrived, the other pupils were already busy with their books. All of them seemed to have been working hard for some time; a number of them had such a serious look on their mugs while others were more cheerful, talking about pets (from what the girl overheard) and perhaps about other topics as well. Someone even managed to bring their own pet into the library, and Elisabeth wondered why on earth Professor Finley would allow it.
It was like, OK, so some people enjoyed being accompanied by their pets very much, but how would they ensure no chaos would result in an enclosed space like a library? What if a pet was moody, or got upset by something or someone, and then disturbed kids who were studying or doing their homework? Or what if that pet got excited upon seeing high bookcases and started climbing or slithering up or perching on one?
That was the reason she took Chanel for a stroll in a park or any outdoor spots, but never to a library, a shop, or a café.
Shrugging, Elisabeth took a seat and got to work. She did not want to interrupt the chatting students, so she would not say a thing unless she was spoken to; but most importantly, she kept quiet because this was a library and she came here to help the librarian repair books by hand, not to have a pleasing conversation with her peers - sure it was tempting, but she decided it would be more appropriate to do someplace else later.
Taking a book, the girl started by taping torn papers with a clear tape and smoothing up the curled pages. Some pages had dog ears on them as well, so Elisabeth also smoothed these up. (She really could not understand how some people did not appreciate pretty, straight pages. They ought to use a bookmark or simple memorise the page number, you know.) This step reminded her of her maternal grandma, who often volunteered to do this to repair the Holy Bibles provided in church. They had been in excellent condition, but after careless handling performed by some parishioners, particularly children, crumpled and torn pages became a usual sight. This was why Ama felt it was a pity and began volunteering, even though no one requested the community to do so.
Turning her attention back to the book in front of her, our part-Veela noticed that a couple of pages were loose. Normally she would use glue to stick them back to the book, but since today she did not have time to wait for the glue to dry (a full twenty-four hours' time was recommended), she simply used clear tape instead. It may not be ideal in the long run, but it should do for now.
The final and most challenging step was gluing the spine and repairing the binding. For this, Elisabeth used a book binding cloth and PVA glue. The good thing about this glue was that it held papers well and dried very quickly, but this also meant that she had to be as precise as possible when gluing the book binding cloth down - it was the same with gluing the spine because she need to make sure not to glue the spine to the book itself.
It was not very easy, but Elisabeth took a slight pride on the result.

@Scarlett Aden─────────────────────────Hey, my name's pretty.
That's fun.
Everly. Everly. Everly.
As usual, Everly read way too deep into Gia's comment than the brunette probably intended. "Heh, thanks! Your name is really pretty too, I've never met someone named Gia before." She was telling the truth - Everly had met all kinds of people at Hogwarts, and it was fun, and sometimes brutal, to get to meet new people. Everyone wasn't the exact same, and for a while, it felt like a game, exciting and interesting.
Gia also asked Everly to pet Tzahala. That was new too, to be honest. "Sure, of course!" Everly said. Tzahala gave a small meow - or maybe it was a yawn, Everly wasn't quite sure. "You're good with pets! Do you have your own pet? Tzahala is my first, I'm not really that experienced, to be honest. It's been really fun so far, though."
Everly went back to focus, spotting another book with torn pages. Reaching for the tape, Everly admired how within such a short time, she worked with expertise - at least, she thought so. Within no time, the tape was nearly gone, and the book was all spiffy and good as new. Everly smiled proudly, placing the book back.

The students were actively working on the books and doing quite well at that. Robyn expected a lot more books to get ruined in the process, but she was happily delighted at the amount that would be returning to the shelves at the end of this (after a final look through by her of course). One of the students actually asked a question. This came as a surprise from the group that seemed content in chittering among themselves and their animals. She made her way over to Opeila so she wasn't shouting across the long make shift table. "Ah, a good question Ms. Winters. The gluing spell could be more effective, but I prefer the precision of being able to place the glue myself. In addition there's no worry about a backfiring wand. We can't all be perfect spellcasters all the time, even adults. I like to take the guess work of magic out occasionally. But you're right, the gluing spell does have a longer life span than regular glue." She smiled and nodded at the girl before moving on.
She flittered around the table, even getting time to fix a couple of books herself as well. There was minimal advanced instruction needed. The students that had gathered themselves around the table seemed like a dutiful sort that wanted to get the job done the first time, and do it correctly on top of it. The thought passed through her head that she should do this more often. After a good couple hours of work, Robyn started to wrap up the errand for those that were still around the table. "As much as I know you would all love to spend your entire evening with me, you are all dismissed for the evening. I appreciate all the hard work you've put into these books. I, and the library, are grateful for the time you have given." Robyn started to clean up the area, saying the occasional goodbye if anyone addressed her.

Henry would listen to Lucia and smile the whole time, he really enjoyed fixing books and talking to the fellow second year that evening. The teen even wished that they could have talked like that whole evening but when the librarians voice reach his ears and they were suggestion to leave the teen may have felt a bit devastated at the fact that the time went by so fast but every situation must end.
The second year would finished up rebounding the book he was working on, tightening up the strings and tying up the ends before polishing up the cover a bit and setting it aside with the rest of the fixed books.
The second year would turn back toward Lucia as he spoke" it was a pleasure to meet you Lucia and I hope we can continue this conversation later," the second year offered her a smile before continuing" I'll see you in class then I guess and it was a pleasure meeting River as well," if allowed the tern would lightly stoke the pygmy puff but if not allowed the teen would just smile at both the girl and creature before giving her a light wave.
Henry would wave toward the librarian with a smile but chances were the teen would be back later to actually read a few books as he moved toward the exit of the library, giving a smile and wave toward Gia, Paige, and Scarlett as Loki quickly rubbed aginest Scarlett's legs before running after Henry as the two left the library and probably headed back toward the common room before going back to the libary later.

The boy apologised, again, for letting Loki run away from him, and said that he would want to pet River if not for the cat in his arms. "She," Lucia corrected with a little smile. "I didn't even realise River was a boy's name until I met Professor Jemari. She's named after my... aunt," she told him. It felt strange to refer to River as her aunt. She had been Ebony's twin, but, because she had died so young, Lucia had never met her. She felt less like an aunt and more like a character from a fairytale set long ago. Sometimes, Lucia let herself wonder what her life would be like if River had never died. Ebony would be happier, for one, and probably less worried as well. Ebony was constantly worried about something - she was just a worrier. Maybe, if River had lived, she wouldn't need to worry as much. Right now, though, Lucia pushed thoughts of her mother's twin aside. Today wasn't the day for that. "Um, no, it's probably best if you don't," she said to the boy apologetically. "Plus, she doesn't like strangers at the best of times... she's a bit picky like that."
Oh, this was just turning into a game of 'who can take the blame'. "It's fine," Lucia insisted, before they exchanged their names.
"No, it should be fine," Lucia decided. "River'll just stay up here on my shoulder. Sometimes she tries to climb onto my head, but I think she's afraid of heights, so it doesn't work very well," she added with a small smile.
Henry asked what her favourite book was, and Lucia paused, thinking if through."Um. Maybe- no. Oh, there's too many!" she sighed. "I just can't choose. There's too many books in the world to pick only one."
Lucia nodded vigorously when Henry agreed with her about being banned from the library if you ruined a book, and then lapsed into silence, carefully fixing the book. It took longer than she'd thought, and, by the time Lucia finally slid Nature's Nobility forward, most people were already onto their second book. Lucia's wasn't even fixed very well. In fact, she was only halfway through her second book when Miss Finley told them that they could all go. Well, her tone of voice was more saying that they all should go, which was a shame since Lucia wanted to finish up her second book. Well, maybe she could come back another time and see if Miss Finley would let her finish it? Or would she have just gotten rid of the non-finished ones by then?
Henry said his own farewell to Lucia, who smiled at him. "It was nice to meet you too," she told him politely, and then laughed as he reached out a hand to stroke River, only for the pygmy puff to let out a squeak of fear and edge away. "Well, it was nice for me at least!" Henry left with a wave, which Lucia returned.
Then, the Hufflepuff looked over to where Miss Finley was cleaning up and nervously made her way over to the librarian. "Um, thank you, Miss," she said, a little awkwardly. "I'm, uh, sorry for bringing River." She flushed, then said quickly, "Have a nice evening. Thank you. Again," before heading back to her common-room.
