Group D: Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin

Logan had no idea what happened, but she froze up. She had been prepared to cast a spell, but missed her chance. She snapped her head up in slight shock as she was shook out of her sudden distraction. She needed to keep her head in the game, she was completely useless in dueling if she was unable to focus during a match. What would her team think of her if it happened again for some strange reason. Logan decided to ignore those thoughts as she looked at everything she had missed. Lucia's spell seemed to have hit, although not aflame, incendio would still hurt.

Alan was not prepared for this, was anyone prepared? Could anyone have been prepared for this? He quite doubted it as he watched everything unfold. Santario was just barely hit at the shoulder, her muscles would slowly turn into jelly by the time the next action would be served like cold revenge. He saw Santario looking at Lucia, ready to cast a spell but she seemed to decide otherwise and would instead redirect the spell to the other Hufflepuff instead, Lucia. Alan wasn't sure what happened there, he did not really pay attention but if he were in Santario's place he would have known how she had simply felt compelled to find another target for her spell as she simply felt unable to send this charm the pretty girls way. But this didn't change the outcome much, because the spell hit and it would hit hard. It would knock Logan back and her remnants of laughter and chuckles died out as her eyes shut close and she collapsed. Alan was sure that this might have cracked a rib and he would cringe as he saw Bridget's Ventus go into nothingness as her target now lay on the ground rather than where she had been moments before. "Remind me not to make you mad..." the fourth year muttered under his breath, it was clear who he meant and he said it almost jokingly though this situation wasn't to laugh about. While not exactly loud, his friend might have caught the gentle remark. Alan had to now tortuously watch on as the teams continued their duel as he twirled his own wand between his fingers, ready to serve some first aid to the fallen girl before she could be safely transferred to the Hospital Wing. As the fourth year looked up he could see as a fire spell would engulf Santario, the fire lingering at her hip as it burned small patches into her robes. But she was fine, she was still standing. All was good. It would be two against one from now on and it would take a wonder to win this; though Alan still had hope for Lucia, wishing her luck with dodging what was possibly about to come. Could she win against all odds?

Santario had been so close to dodging Logan’s spell that it was almost infuriating when she got hit by it. Her arm was slowly becoming numb and hard to control, spreading from her shoulder where she was struck down to her fingertips. Now it was true that her aim had initially been focused on Lucia, but whether it was the fact that Lucia was a non-threat with not even a leg to stand on or her anger at not dodging Logan’s spell, she redirected last second to Logan. It didn’t even matter that Santario was not fully capable of getting out of the way of Lucia’s Incendio as her robe lit aflame at her right hip and stayed aflame. She would refuse to admit that she had been compelled to not hit the girl who happened to look more like a walking painting than a living person. Those people were far too perfect, which bothered Santario enough to not want to look at them. “Flipendo!” She snarled as her half numb arm produced the proper movement slamming Logan with such a powerful burst of bright blue energy that it sent her careening backward. A smirk played with the corners of Santario’s lips as Logan did not get back up. A few comments ran through her head to say about the girl that would not get back up until the duel was done, but she bit her tongue. The hard sting on her tongue and numbness in her arm reminded her that she was better than that. She looked at her right hip, where her robes continued to smolder, the flames burning a hole through the material of her black school robes exposing the heather grey t-shirt that she wore beneath it. If she didn’t stop the fire, it would surely eat through her shirt next and do more damage to her skin than it already had.
Santario looked over at Bridget, “My arm is numb, and I’m on fire.” She said it flippantly as if she talked about being minorly inconvenienced by a rain sprinkle. She also knew she could not switch wand hands again; that would be cheating. It would have been fine if her arm had not been hampered by a spell, but it was what it was. Now she just had to take care of business. Using her good arm, she move her braid over her left shoulder and away from the flames on her side, making sure nothing would be in the way.

The Healing Spell had done its job, so now it was time to rejoin the action. Lining up her wand at Logan, she muttered the incantation of the Wind Jinx. She could tell even as the spell was leaving her wand that her aim was off, not terribly so, but enough to make for an easy dodge for her target. Perhaps it was just enough of a distraction, though, coupled with what looked like an attempt from Santario to throw Logan off, her wand shifting at the last possible moment. The spell exploded out of her teammate's wand and she couldn't help but smile at the impressive cast. The power was evident, crackling through the air, and Santario's aim was precise, deadly.
She wasn't the type to celebrate when an opponent went down, or at least she didn't think she was--was this really the first time she'd had an opponent knocked unconscious?--so her expression changed back into something neutral as Logan fell down and didn't get back up, soon to be removed from the platform. She used the pause in the action to assess how Santario was doing. As she described, she'd been set of fire and had apparently been hit with Logan's Spongify. Considering her unconcerned tone and the fact these were the first spells she'd been touched with so far, despite several close calls, she was still fine, though she imagined the fire had to hurt. Giving Santario a nod, she readied for the next round.

Logan had managed to successfully cast spongify, something she was rather proud of as she was not sure she had even been able to land a single hit on any of her opponents that round. The girl was sure that her and Lucia may be able to make a comeback, seeing as Lucia had managed to cast incendio perfectly for a second time. The young girl should have payed more attention to what was happening around her though as apparently her opponent was not a fan of her at the moment. Before Logan was even able to glance back over at Santario, she heard the word 'Flipendo' being called out. Logan was not able to dodge out of the way though, as she hit the ground with a thud. She could tell she was going to have bruises after this. Logan wasn't even able to hear what was going on around her as her vision faded to black. Guess her luck wasn't as good as she thought it was, there was no way she was getting back up for the rest of the duel.

[quote]Things were not looking good. Logan hit the ground with a thud and Lucia let out an involuntary gasp. She had never actually seen Logan black out before - in their practise matches the games had always been stopped before someone blacked out, and she and Logan hadn't lost a proper match yet. Well, maybe they would now - but Lucia would go down fighting.

A WIN FOR SLYTHERIN
All but one spell would miss, possibly this anxious feeling of victory and loss nagging at the dueler's minds as they fired their last round of spells. One would hit it's target just barely but it was enough. As Santario's spell would land, even Lucia would crumble as she would be able to feel her eyes shut as her mind would sink into darkness; her body was flung back like a rag doll, hitting the ground beneath as a bunch of students (nurse aids) would rush in and put the fallen students through first aid before transferring them to the hospital wing. Alan was excited about this outcome, leaving his referee position as he bounded over to Santario, flicking his wand with a extinguishing spell rolling of his tongue, right as he jumped Santario. He would wrap his arms around her as he was grinning like a fool. "Congrats, congrats, congrats! You guys were incredible, totally in sync!" he chirped as he squeezed his friend carefully, not wanting to hurt her more in case she had any injuries from the duel. "You too Bridget, well done!" he congratulated the other Slytherin as he let go of Santario, giving her a happy nod, feeling a little giddy from all the excitement and adrenaline. "You also should let the nurse check on you, both of you, I feel bad for Lucia and Logan that all must have hurt real bad!" He would look over his shoulder, watching as the two Hufflepuff girls were escorted by the nurse aids to the infirmary. Alan had many expectations but he had not expected all of this! He also never saw Santario duel so this had been another surprise to him, a pleasant one.

It was all or nothing. It did not matter that Santario's arm was numb and did not want to cooperate. It did not matter that she was currently on fire. She reasoned with how much Lucia had been hit there was no way she could have withstood too much more from them at all. So without any hesitation, San knew she and Bridget would be doing an all-out assault. Two flipendos would head her way, and while Lucia would have managed to dodge her partner’s spell, she just couldn’t get out of the way in time for Santario’s. She would commend the Badger’s on a good fight, but unfortunately, that would not be possible just yet.
Before Santario even had a nanosecond to redirect her wand to where she was on fire, she heard Alan’s voice casting extinguo on her. Her eyes closed momentarily as the cooling water drove away the flames and cooled her skin. It would not be a fix to the burn marks starting to blister on her side or the holds in her school robes and t-shirt, but it was a start. In what seemed like a shorter amount of time, Santario stumbled from the weight of the fourth-year lion but managed to keep on her feet. “Hahaha, thanks, Alan.” Santario chuckled, and as Alan let go of her, San would put pressure just under her burn marks with her hand. It did no good in terms of healing, but it felt good to do something, and it stopped her from touching it. “At least I stayed conscious to the end of this one, and don’t worry, I know I need some burn paste; this burn isn’t going away that easily. I can’t imagine that having felt good, especially Logan’s knockback.” Santario looked over at her partner. “Bridget, do you need any help? That spell sickness is nasty; either way, I’m off to get some burn paste.” If Bridget wanted help, Santario would offer help support her as they walked over to get patched up. If Bridget declined, she would still try to accompany her without physical support.

They both knew what they were doing. Logan was out and Lucia looked a spell away from joining her. Leveling their wands at the lone badger, they incanted the same spell, two Flipendos sent her way. Hers missed but it didn't matter because Lucia hadn't managed to dodge both spells, Santario's Knockback Jinx just barely catching her. It was enough, the girl passing out. Better this way, even, as she took minimal extra damage.
Bridget felt a little bad for the Hufflepuffs--losing was never fun and those spells had hurt. At least they'd fought until the end. She'd have to find them once they woke up to let them know they'd done well. Mainly, though, there was this exhilaration. Because they'd won. Sure, they'd technically won the last duel but that hadn't been the same. This they'd earned, they'd fought for. Perhaps more importantly, Santario was here to celebrate with her. Turning towards her teammate, a grin on her face, she watched as Alan extinguished the flames and gave Santario a hug. It was quite sweet; he'd done well remaining impartial while moderating, but now it was nice to the celebration between friends. She was sure she'd have something similar from her friends in a bit.
"Thanks," she said in response to his congratulations. At Santario's offer to help, she shook her head. "No, I think I'm fine, but the sooner we get the Hospital Wing, the better." She would follow Santario off the stage and to the third floor, still smiling through the cold.
Well fought Lucia and Logan, and thanks for moderating, Alan!
