Looking in on the conversation, Adam felt quite proud of himself. He didn't know the girl very well, but she seemed to like Anatole, didn't she? And he was pretty sure he liked her just as much. He didn't know if it was going to be a romantic thing or not, but his mother had always said that "the first step in any relationship, no matter what kind, is talking". It was a bit of a cheesy fairy-tale sentiment, but it seemed to be working well enough right now. He'd have to drag Anatole out eventually, of course, since they had a competition to finish -- but he seemed happy right now.
Half-listening to the conversation, he snapped back to reality when Anatole called over to him and asked him about something he'd tried very hard to be rid of for a long time: Kaegen's unfortunate nickname for him. He glared at the other boy from afar, and realized that if the topic of conversation would be turning to him, it was as good a time as any to move on from the ballroom. He reached Anatole's side just as he mentioned something about the room itself, and a feeling he was having. Hiding a smirk, Adam knew he'd have to bring that up later. It seemed that he'd picked an adequate second choice after all.
"Alright, if we're going to get this thing done before the day's over, we really should get a move on. You're up next, right? I'll meet you outside." This first comment was addressed to Anatole, but before he turned to the door, Adam made sure to smile at the girl in front of him. "Hi, nice to meet you. We'll get out of your hair in just a second."
Crossing the room and letting himself out through the decorated doors, Adam leaned against a wall to wait for his friend. He hadn't wanted to tear him away without warning, but he did hope that Anatole would hurry up.
After all, they had an important decision to make.

"we accept the love we think we deserve"
Ah, the ball. The event Rosie couldn't wait to arrive. She loved the idea of seeing all of her friends dance in pairs, like they were all royalty. It's a time where Rosie felt equal to them, rather than pure blood vs. muggle, where they were all royal dancers. Waltzing across the floor with grace and elegance you could only find in a kingdom of growing and skilled wizards.
She folded her small hands together and smiled big at Anatole. The topic of the ballroom coming from him made her excited. Maybe this meant he'd go with her to the ball! She didn't why he wouldn't, after all they were best friends why wouldn't Anatole bring her to the ball? Right? Right. Anyway, she saw Adam come over and subtly rushed Anatole to the next room. Were they going on some sort of adventure? Rosie kind of wanted to join them, but she didn't wanna intrude. "Oh! I didn't know you were on some kinda mission, Anatole." She turned to him, smiling. "Go on with him, I'm gonna head out anyway." She said, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
Rosie turned back to Anatole and smiled at him again. "I'll see you later, hopefully?" She asked, rubbing his arm as a quick goodbye before dashing past him, smiling at Adam as well. She didn't know who he was, but he seemed nice. Maybe Rosie would have the pleasure of talking with him again in time.
As Rosie left, she went over the events of what had just happened. She had met Kaegan, someone who didn't seem to think before he spoke, and seemed to be a little.. Unstable, from how he suddenly dashed out. Maybe she could talk to him later, with any luck, he knew one of her friends, and they'd cross paths. Then Anatole and his friend showed up, and she felt their eyes on her. She wasn't THAT ugly was she? Whatever. Anatole had talked to her, and they were best friends, conversation was easy. Though this time, Rosie felt all nervous. Weird.
She walked down the hallway and towards her next class for the day, it had been a weird hour.

Adam was a lifesaver. Thank God, all this was coming to a close like the last few bars of a song. There was only so long he could talk and so long he could act out in fear of rejection. There was only so long he could stand there, with the dips and cracks in his voice and talk to a stinky girl. Maybe he did have whatever those cooties were.
"Alright, if we're going to get this thing done before the day's over, we really should get a move on. You're up next, right? I'll meet you outside." Yes! Perfect! Wonderful! Let's move on!
"Yeah! That's right, I am, loser," he teased. Next, he addressed Rosie saying, "Actually, it's about time we get going. I've got a competition to win." He smiled at her, his slightly yellow teeth reflecting in the opulent room. He gave her a nod and a little wave, turning toward Adam and noticing him as he slid past, greeting the girl. Seriously? Had they not met before? Rosie knew so many of Anatole's friends already. Why was Adam, this scrappy, terrible Ravenclaw the exception? Maybe he just hadn't spoken about him to her yet.
"But...yeah. It was nice talking to you and catching up. I should stop talking...shouldn't I? I'll see you around anyways. The Ball. Yeah." The boy slowly stepped away, staring right into her eyes as he backed up, but turning around at the last second and dashing off, reconvening with the blonde boy. "Now, do I have a room for you."

Anatole and Adam leave the Ballroom, thus ending the thread.
