Trauma from fire wasn’t something that Dymphna had in particular. She hardly remembered the fire from the Masquerade Ball, let alone the feeling of being stabbed. Despite it, she knew for certain she didn’t want to see anyone go up in flames. Letting out a string of cursing in her native tongue, the blonde drew her wand toward Kheanu. ”Extinguo!”

The charm backfired, only making things worse before they got better. It could have been the wand movement or pronunciation, perhaps even the temperamental wand core, but she couldn’t dwell too long on it. Once Kheanu seemed to be fully extinguished, she turned her attention back to the other team to await their next move.

If the triumphant sounds of his teammates were any indication, the White Team has obviously just recovered from their initial fumble. Kheanu could be seen elegantly weaving towards another tile, and appeared on it unharmed.

Smirking off to his left, the Mondelez boy called out to his fellow Durmstrang boy in a mockingly-sweet tone. "Awwww, Maksim. Now we 'ave matching burn marks on our camicias [shirts]!" A little wink later and he turned to the Sokolova heiress to greet her—the rolling his r at the end. "Good day, Alisa. Doing well, so far?"

Because he was doing quite swell, himself. Kheanu smirked as the flame on his shirt died down. This was gone be fun. And it was only getting started!

𝓢o that hadn't gone as Amadea had planned. During the first round, the rook across from her had tried to roast the poor Hufflepuff and Amadea had decided to retaliate with a little bit of fire of her own. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to work. Maybe it was because her mind was cluttered from all of her past experiences with fire and the shock of having the spell cast at her, but Amadea's spell backfired and she was doused in flames. Thankfully, they quickly subsided, but Amadea was shaken.

She knew that she had to make up for her past mistake and tried to push it away from her mind. It was only one round; she could easily come back from this. From what it looked like, her team was doing fairly well so she tried to focus on having a positive and clear mindset as she prepared herself for the third round. Even if she had done horribly, at least her team was fairing a bit better. She could do this. Gripping her wand, she prepared to go into action.

Oh, how fleeting blissful ignorance was!

One moment, he was bantering quite happily with Kheanu, and Kheanu had even smiled at him (he smiled at him!). The next, he felt a searing pain across his chest. The pain was almost unbearable, but to save face, he gritted his teeth and resisted the urge to scream. What was with Nichlas and fire? He'd have to have a word with Ella about her brother's pyromaniac tendencies the next time he saw her.

Maksim returned Kheanu's smiled rather painfully, his eyes watering from the pain. Still, he could feel his heart jump as the beautiful boy graced him with a smile, he could feel his heart beating faster... What where these feelings? He was probably just embarrassed that he'd messed up so badly and ruined things for his team. Damn it, damn it... grunting slightly, his grip on his wand tightened. "Eat dirt, Nichlas!" he screamed across the board. Glancing back at Kheanu, he said determinedly, "Let us win this match, Kheanu!"

One of those spells had definitely been intended for him. Adam was so sure of it that he had dodged out of the way in advance, expecting to see a beam of light fly narrowly past his shoulder. Unfortunately, that never happened. All of the other team's attention was apparently being focused on other targets, and the only thing that Adam had done was make himself look like a fool. Oh well. He was practically an expert at that now anyway. Laughing at his own mistake, Adam let it roll off his shoulders and reminded himself to pay better attention to which way his opponents' wands were pointing.

His two friends were seemingly the primary targets. They'd both been hit by Hogwarts' most popular charm, and while Amadea hadn't caught fire, Cecily wasn't so lucky. It pained Adam to see the girls in any pain. He wanted to help them out with a healing spell, but he knew that doing so would cost him a turn, and he didn't want that to put his team at a disadvantage. Still, it weighed heavy on his conscience. As his teammates aimed their wands for another volley of spells, he tried to catch someone's eyes, anyone's eyes, for guidance. Should he save the restorative maneuvers for later or would later be too late? It would absolutely kill Adam to let anyone down, most of all his close friends. He wished he had more time to think.

What was he supposed to do?

Alisa cursed when her own spell almost backfired. She should have known better than to be careless in her casting. At least some of her team were doing better, dishing out a nice series of offensive spells. The Hogwarts boy with the cardboard armor may be weird, but that guy sure packed punch.

She almost laughed when her classmates started to shit-talk their opposition. That was one way to go.

"Doing great. You know, I'm not on fire," she replied to Mondolez in Russian, gripping her wand tighter. The grimace on her face was almost a grin. "Let's kick some asses!"

Oliver fired forward a huge flame and whoa, she's on fire! Oliver's eyes widened, what had he just done? From the surprise of the flames catching on, Oliver's wand slipped from his hand. Fumbling it, he didn't even notice Alexx's spell fly over his head as he regained grip on his falling wand. The Ravenclaw took a moment to absorb the sight of Cecily. Wizard duels sure were weird, he couldn't imagine any muggle activities looking like this right now.

However, this wasn't any time to questions the morals of this game. Dymphna was on his team and he was fighting to protect her. "Don't worry, I'll protect you, Dymphna," Oliver intended to say this to himself however it came out a lot louder than he thought it would.

Somehow, Alexx wasn't even shocked with the turnout. Still, at least she wasn't injured, but she was only doing sub-par. She felt a little bad, admittedly, because her contribution to the team was... Small, to say the very least. But she wasn't quite ready to give up, things would eventually work out, even if this was going significantly worse than her first duel. While Alexx had heard the phrase "you win some, you lose some" plenty in her life, she wasn't exactly... Ready to lose. Sure, she'd lost in Quidditch, but somehow that felt different. Somehow, this was important for her to win.

Gritting her teeth and bearing her jaw down, she kept her wand at the ready, eyes narrowed and eyebrows cinched. It wasn't as though she was trying to impress anyone, and she certainly wasn't intimidating anyone either, but she was just frustrated now. This whole thing was- it was frustrating! Alexx considered that after today she might swear off of dueling, because it was definitely stressing her out more than necessary. Mikey always told her that high stress levels weren't good, they'd give you grey hairs, and Alexx was far too young to start going grey over something as trivial as dueling.

Round Three
10th of July 2020, around 02:00pm

Yes. Fire spells seemed very popular. But still, their usage also seemed to be receding a little as Team White switched tactics to try and knock people back. Not that getting hit by one of those jinxes was all that comfortable either... Both Miss Quinn and the darker skinned Durmstrang boy [Maksim] were lucky and the flames on them petered out on their own after a few seconds.

All in all, it did not appear that this round was particularly successful when it came to casting and hitting their opponents, either. Miss Campbell's spell connected with the Durmstrang girl [Alisa] and left a small patch of flames in its wake, and the White Queen knocked Miss Séverin down, while she was distracted by her own spell backfiring and hitting her instead of (presumably) Mr. Hart. Mr. Harringtom was equally as unlucky as he waved his wand around a bit too much, trying to cast the Bubble-producing Charm somewhere in the area in front of him, only to end up covering himself in bubbles. Mr. … – Zahid peeked at the Team list to double-check the Durmstang students' names – Mr. Preobrazhensky proved himself to be quite agile, again, as he evaded both spells aimed at him. Miss Sokolova, on the other hand, seemed to have trouble getting her wand to cooperate. Miss Quinn's, Mr. Forsberg's and Mr.Hart's spells harmlessly flew past their intended targets. Miss Teague simply moved one square ahead to the right.

By some miracle, by some wind of good luck, Maksim had managed to twist out of both Forsberg and one of the blonde girls' spells. Was he really that desirable of a target? Once again, both of them had tried to go for him, but he shook it off with a nonchalant shrug. That would show them, to not mess with a Preobrazhensky! His spidey-senses, so to speak, had been tingling as he noticed both of them raising their wands, and luckily, his body automatically moved itself out of the way.

He was really starting to enjoy this! Readying his wand once more, he shot glances to his fellow teammates. Skolova seemed to have trouble getting her wand to cooperate, and Maksim was disappointed that she hadn't wiped out everyone on the board with her prowess. However, he had hope that she'd easily be able to pull her weight once she figured out what the hell was going on with her wand. Kheanu was, luckily, not on fire anymore, while Dymphna seemed to be holding her own quite nicely. The boy in the armor, Oliver, had been firing shot after shot at the other team, and with a good deal of success, as well. Maybe Maksim needed to get himself some armor, as the boy seemed to be doing pretty well, even with his clunky outfit.
