Budding Curiosity

Elias gave a nod as Miranda finished talking, "So, it would be those people that would try to take over the muggle world then. Those followers of, uh, Fiddlehort? That was it, right?" Names are hard, at least to Elias they normally were. "So, I can get people being uncomfortable with the whole thing, but they just don't talk about it at all? What about history? Why not teach this to us so we know what led, uh, voldsport to be evil and take over everything?" Elias wasn't even sure when this happened. But if schools were teaching about a muggle war that happened nearly 100 years ago, why wouldn't the wizards teach about this?

Elias watched Miranda for a short while as he thought to himself. She was a very smart person and she clearly has some sort of interest in all of this. "Tell you what," he began to offer, even though he knew he probably wouldn't be too much help, "Let me know when and I'll meet you in the library. We can search that place up and down. Try to find some sort of information on what exactly happened. Though I have a feeling that I'll just be there for moral support than anything." He gave her a big, hopefully, charismatic grin. Though in reality, it just made him feel like a complete fool.

"Voldemort," Miranda corrected automatically. "And they don't talk about it because, well, everyone was scared of him. In fact, lots of Wizards that were alive in his time only ever call him "you-know-who" because they're terrified he'll find them and kill them if they speak his real. Even though it's been proven he's dead for good this time." She sighed, folding her arms over her chest with a forlorn expression.. "With wizards, things can be much scarier than they are with muggles. For example, in your world, if someone looks dead, that means they are. In ours... not so much."

And it was true. From the little she'd heard of Voldemort, he'd apparently been killed once before, and then came back years later. Not exactly the most hopeful situation if you wanted people to believe he was gone for good.

It'll be decades before everyone starts to believe the Dark Lord is gone for good. And even then, some might believe he will one day return, like all this ridiculous muggle myths about King Arthur one day returning, Miranda thought.

"Tell you what," Elias began. He continued by asking Miranda whether she'd like to get together again one day in the library and focus on researching Voldemort together.

"Absolutely!" Miranda replied, matching his grin with a smile of her own. "The Hogwwrts library is so big, there's bound to be information on that if we look hard enough!"

"Voldesnort," Elias said as Miranda tried to correct him. "Voldeport?" Elias slipped in and out of the conversation as Miranda talked. His mind just slipping back to that really weird name. He snapped to attention as she finished talking and had to think really hard about what she was just saying. A bit too hard in fact. "Um, well. I guess the way I see it is. It's good to be scared. It means you'll be ready to act if something happens. But at the same time, what if this fear goes on for too long you know? There's already very little information, what if the general public completely forgets? They wouldn't know who this is or what to do if he were to show up again." Elias shrugged as he finished, "At least it makes sense to me anyway, If our greatest weapon is knowledge and we erase or ignore knowledge of Voldecourt, is it really a weapon anymore?"

Elias sat, thinking to himself. He understood why people would be afraid. One person taking over the entire wizarding world is frightening. But if his muggle teachers were right, and history is doomed to repeat itself, wouldn't forgetting be the most dangerous thing they could do?

(Perhaps a good place to end here? Unless you can think of more, seems a fairly natural end to me.)

As Miranda agreed to his help, Elias gave a confident nod and a mighty thumbs up. "I'll do my best to not get buried by books I pull off the shelves!" He said with a laugh. He looked back out at the grounds and all of the students going about their day. The thought of classes starting soon scared Elias. He was never good in school, but maybe this would be his time to shine. Or at least Miranda could help him shine. Whatever happens this year, Elias was going to try and cry his hardest.
