Birthday for Two
Flash had no idea how much time had progressed, he had lost track of it completely. The moon was still above him, but his eyes had adjusted to the light. As he drew closer to the familiar bonfire, his rapidly beating heart started to slow. Everyone was still floating around it blissfully, their faces calming lit by the warm glowing light. Emerging from the darkness, no longer dressed for the occasion and with, unbeknownst to him, a small streak of blood smeared across his lower lip, Flash wondered if his reappearance wouldn’t do more harm than good.
It wasn’t about him anyway. Regardless of his disheveled state, he was supposed to be rejoicing in the occasion of Willow and Alan’s birth. Some of the attendees were sitting on the blankets, some were eating some of the delightful snacks that Willow and Alan had thought to bring. The vision had moments before brought him unending pain-- a feeling like nothing he could do would ever inch him closer to the blissful happiness they felt. Now, he simply didn’t care. He had been drained of his conflicting emotions, and could only muster idle acknowledgement.
He knew Willow would be cross with him if he left without saying anything, much more than if he showed up after having been away and lost his pajamas. It was his fault for for having expectations, and for feeling anything besides duty to his friends. He should have stayed and plastered a big smile on his face, making sure that everything went well and stayed jovial for the two of them. What had he been thinking, running off to cry? Sometimes he hated being a child. He wished he could learn and grow in a cocoon instead, and only emerged once he was ready to face the world. Instead he had to struggle to kill off his irrational emotions.
Sidling back towards Willow, Flash appeared quietly beside her, his eyes tired from the late hour and strenuous feeling. She was talking to her guests so he didn’t want to interrupt or alarm her. Though with his pants muddied, his temple sweaty, bloodied face, and bloodshot eyes, anyone might have been given reason to be alarmed. His mind, however, was elsewhere.

The worry about Flash only seemed to grow the longer he was gone. She couldn't help the growing thoughts. The fear of abandonment, of loss, creeping up. They had just made a breakthrough and now it seemed like he was already disappearing once again. She idly participated in the conversation, her eyes darting every now and again to where Flash had left to. However, she was one that was easily distracted. When her eye darts slowed in frequency, almost giving up that Flash had just completely left the party. That he had left her for good. She couldn't blame him could she? A small muggle witch, compared to him. Someone that was charming, that lit up a room when he was in it. At least he did that for her. His presence could melt any coldness she was feeling, his friendship had come to mean everything to her in a short amount of time.
Just in time before the final glance she promised herself she'd make for the night, he appeared at her side. Like a ghost, floating through the party. Something was off about him. She turned to the friends that she was talking to and pretend to be excited to talk to Flash about something. "Oh! I need to actually talk to Flash about something I want to do later. So, if you'll excuse me." If she plays it cool, maybe no one else will notice that Flash suddenly had different clothes, ones that have become significantly dirtied. That he had a bloody lip, and looked as if he could fade into the lake itself at any moment. She gently attempted to grab his hand and pull him a fair amount of distance away from the party before pulling him into a hug that seemed normal to anyone watching. But to him he could feel the grip of this small girl that thought she had lost him once again.
"What did Ruka do to you?" She pulled back and looked at him, keeping a small smile on her face since she was facing the party. Play it cool. Play it cool. Even though everything in her wanted to bubble over. Since Ruka had followed him, it was obvious that he was the cause of this. "Say the word, I-I'll hurt him if he hurt you." Her voice wavered, unsure. Would she do that for Flash? Not that she hadn't straight up punched Ruka before, but it was a weird flashback accident. If he asked, she hopefully could do it. For now, she just hoped he wouldn't ask at all. Her eyes worriedly darting around and her hands moving close behind them trying to wipe the blood, sweat, and unknowingly tears away from her brother's face.
"I don't know whether to cry or scream or do both. It feels like I've done more than enough of both. And it feels like I haven't done enough." - Mason Deaver

Birthday for Two
Wearily barely conscious of her arrival, Willow gripped Flash into a tight hug. A hug with urgency. Though previously lost at sea, Flash began to realize how he appeared. He was covered in dirt and sticks. He moved to brush whatever mess was in his hair out, his other arm hugging Willow back. He had worried her, he knew he would. Still, it was better than disappearing. He would just excuse himself and--
’What did Ruka do to you? arrived in Flash’s skull as his far too attentive sister noticed their simultaneous exit. Well, it wasn’t as if they ran off to-- oh lord... No, the original intention was… well he couldn’t tell her about that either. Not on her birthday! Why is this happening?! He didn’t expect to be thrown in the hot seat so quickly, he shouldn’t have underestimated Willow’s own ruthlessness. Ruthless protectiveness.
”He d-didn’t…” Flash stuttered. He couldn’t just lie. Flash cast his face down in shame, not having any energy to maintain composure. He just wanted to run to his room and hide under the blanket. ”I’m sorry. I don’t want to talk about it.”
Flash leapt into his own tight hug with Willow again, wrapping her in his arms and digging his head into her hair. He didn’t want her to have to see his face anymore. He appreciated that she would punch Ruka again if he wanted her to, but he didn’t. Still in the hug Flash spoke into her head.
”I have to go. Please just stay and have a good time.”
He didn’t know if his words would convince her, but he hoped his hug would. He needed to be alone, as soon as possible. He was practically begging her to ignore his suffering. Getting her involved would only make his suffering worse.
With that, he detached from her and went off towards the castle. He wasn’t drifting anymore, he was walking quickly.
