Caelum was born on 14 January 2014 as the fourth child of pureblood Maria Ascanni and half-blood Thomas Ascanni. Growing up with three older brothers was… an experience. They never treated him badly, but he often became the victim of their sibling pranks and teasing. Because of the larger age gap between them, they rarely shared the same interests or got along particularly well. To make matters worse, all three of his brothers were very talented and smart. His oldest brother is a squib that attended medical school, while the other two were gifted to played the piano and violin beautifully. Compared to them, Caelum constantly felt inadequate. He grew up feeling pressured to become just as talented or successful, even if nobody said it directly. When he attended primary school, there was an older student who regularly stole lunch money from younger kids. One day, the boy targeted Caelum’s friend, and Caelum finally snapped. That was the first time he used his fists to solve a problem. Both boys ended up receiving detention for two weeks, but his mother took the incident especially badly and scolded him harshly for it. From that moment onward, Caelum began noticing the disappointed looks she gave him whenever he got into trouble. Like he thinks he's a ticking timebomb that will embarass her. Those silent expressions affected him far more than the punishments ever did.

Caelum’s first instance of magic happened when he was eight years old. His little sister had just turned two, and she really loved apples. One afternoon on the way home from school, he noticed a neighboring yard with a tree full of ripe apples hanging over the wall. Determined to bring some home for his cute sister, he climbed onto the outer wall to reach the lower branches. But no matter how hard he tried, he kept slipping and falling back down. Frustrated, Caelum punched the wall in anger only for every single apple on the tree to suddenly fall to the ground all at once. At first, he stared in complete shock. Then, naturally, he convinced himself it was probably because of his "immense strength" rather than accidental magic. Feeling extremely proud of himself, he gathered as many apples as he could carry in his passed down bag and brought them home to share with his sisters.

The Accardi blood that courses through Silvio’s veins is of a lineage spoken of with reverence at some tables—and fear at others. A centuries-old family with history dating back to the 1500s, pre-dating the formation of any Italian Ministry of Magic. The Accardi name comes with generations of documentation as magical creature traders, handlers, and experts. Silvio, the second-born son of Enzo and Serafina, was the second son of the creature mogul family that made a name for itself in Palermo’s highest wizarding society. Growing up around the Accardi family business that combined magical creature import/export, a private creature reserve/sanctuary on their sprawling countryside estate, and creature-derived apothecary supplies meant that the young boy got on better with creatures than some Humans. He was taught at a young age the symbiotic relationship between magic, its creatures, and Humans. But throughout his childhood, Silvio always felt there was something darker beneath the surface.
Enzo Accardi was the patriarch of the Accardi family, an astute businessman and socially influential figure at every table he sat at. His name, family, and businesses were all celebrated at the tables of some of Palermo’s finest wizarding restaurants. Serafina, wife of Enzo and mother of Silvio, came from the Calabrian Vitale family, whose own history involves dark enchantments placed on creature dens to prevent escape — knowledge she contributed to the Accardi enterprise when she married into it. Rocco, the eldest of the two Accardi sons, walked in his father’s shadow, learning the family business as he was expected to take it over.
Accardi was not an unfamiliar name in the Italian wizarding society, as they owned a large portion of Palermo’s magical countryside, where thousands of magical creatures ran free in lush environments suitable to them. This earned them a well-known reputation across the region, generating media interest, the occasional visit from the Ministry, and favors across Italian wizarding culture. All of this with the intention of hiding what was really going on at the Accardi countryside, as some called it. While Silvio was very close with his family, his heritage, and Enzo and Serafina, they decided to send him abroad to Beaubaxtons to give the family’s name a wider reach. The Accardis had cemented themselves as a pillar in the Italian wizarding society, and Silvio was meant to be a branch to French wizarding society.

One early morning in the Accardi countryside, a beast handler employed by the family was having trouble with a young Hippogriff that had taken a disliking to the handler. No matter how much the handler tried to corral it into an outbuilding, the Hippogriff resisted and became more aggressive. Enzo eventually arrived to help, but didn’t seem to have a handle on the situation either. Unaware that Silvio followed him to the pasture as was his habit, Enzo didn’t notice his son approaching the Hippogriff until it was too late. There was a quiet moment when the Hippogriff and Silvio locked eyes, and while he did not show it, the boy was still afraid, his breath held. The handler had turned the situation over to Enzo, so he had gone into the outbuilding to tend to other animals. However, a moment later, without any input from Enzo, the Hippogriff was distracted by a feeding bucket that fell with a clatter and no apparent cause. This provided Silvio’s father the opening he needed to wrangle the energetic Hippogriff. Only Enzo appeared to understand what happened, and he said nothing at the time. Silvio didn’t know what he had done, only that Enzo had seen it, and that felt like enough.

History: Ophelia’s life has been anything but perfect. As a child, she was carefree. As most children are. That was, until she first heard her parents fight. She experienced screaming and bickering before she could even talk. Her parents shouted a lot, and her father would always get physical. It was quite scary. Her role models were not doing a great job. She learned that she couldn’t trust anyone, even family. Her sister wasn’t doing a better job though. She was distant. Cold. Their parents were an arranged marriage, so they obviously didn’t love each other, or their children. As a child, her only interactions with her sister were teasing. When Ophelia was younger, she had extremely curly hair. Almost like a blonde afro. Her curls were tight and poofy. She would get a lot of nicknames like ‘Unruly’ or ‘Poof-head’. Which led her to her hate of nicknames. And interactions. But her sister’s teasing ended soon enough. She was off to school before Ophelia could count. At age nine was when her life spiraled out of control. In a heated fight, her father murdered her mother, and was sent to Azkaban. Ophelia watched her father murder her mother. That was when her childhood ended. She was sent off to live with her horrible grandparents until it was time to attend school. Ophelia hated living with her grandparents. She became colder and meaner as the years dragged on. As she got older, her curls started to fade, as if they symbolized her happiness. But at the very tip of her hair, there were still some curls left. Perhaps there was hope for her. Or not.
First Magic: Ophelia’s first instance of magic was, like everything in her life, traumatic. By the age of 6, Ophelia’s parents had no doubt she would contain the same magic that ran in her family as common as blood. One gloomy day, her parents her fighting. As usual. She was fed up. She was tired. Tired of hearing them shout at each other. In a rage, she shouted back at them. And in doing so, the chandelier fell from the ceiling, plummeting to the ground. That resulting in scolding and a punishment, but there was still a silver lining. She knew she was a witch.

First Magic: Elodie came from two established magical families but both weren't extraordinarily wealthy or politically powerful. Their reputations come primarily from their professions. Her father’s Dutch family, the van Aelsts, was associated for generations with magical preservation, historical research and magical artefacts. Her mother’s Irish family had worked with magical plants, ingredients and cultivation. Both families are pureblood but she was not raised to believe their blood status makes her superior. Her parents’ attitude when it comes to ancestry is straightforward--for them it's history that is worth knowing but it shouldn't define you as a person and it's certainly not an achievement either.
Her father, Matthijs Willem van Aelst is a Curse Breaker who grew up in the Netherlands. He specializes in old magical objects with enchantments that are damaged, unknown or potentially dangerous. For Elodie, his job was very boring since on most days, it involved paperwork, research and testing. She imagined it's more of inspecting and battling cursed objects. He and Elodie share the same attitude when it comes to investigating everything. They also share the unfortunate conviction that they are always right so arguments between them can therefore last a very long time be that serious or simple bantering. She's a daddy's girl. Her mother Maeve Bell-van Aelst is an Apothecary and Herbologist from County Antrim. Her family deals with magical plants used by apothecaries, healers and potioneers. Her mother is more spontaneous than her father, warm, practical and talkative. Her philosophy about her children is that they should be allowed to make mistakes provided the mistake is not going to poison, disfigure or eat them. And this belief conflicts with her father's definition of things Elodie shouldn’t be allowed to do.
Her parents met while on the job. A Dutch magical archive acquired magical artefacts that are contaminated by an unknown magical plant. Her father was responsible for assessing the artefacts while her mother was called in to identify the organism. Their first meeting ended in an argument due to their own beliefs and conclusions and both didn't want to admit the other may have been the one who was correct. They married several years later. After their wedding, her father moved to Northern Ireland. They settled in Newtownabbey, where her mother's relatives were close by until Elodie was born a year after. She grew up in an old house on the outskirts of Newtownabbey. From the outside, it was just a simple detached house, nothing was remarkable but once you're inside, it was a magical household. She grew up around magic, witness them regularly like it's part of her life.
Elodie was homeschooled from early childhood as it was part of the family tradition and practicality. Both her parents worked unusual schedules, travelled a lot and lived within magical society. Being homeschooled has it's advantages and disadvantages for her, academically, she was well prepared, but socially, not so much. Her lessons were usually one-to-one. There was not one else to interact with aside from her tutors. She had cousins who visit their family, but most interactions were occasional. Because of this, she became excellent at entertaining herself and could happily spend hours alone. This was also the main reason why she's comfortable talking to adults. What she never learned in actual was how to deal with a large group of children her own age.
When Elodie was nine, her paternal grandfather retired from his position that oversees private magical conservation archive in the Netherlands. Her father was approached as the new Head Conservator which was essentially the position he spent his career preparing for. Her mother was worried at first that moving would require her to sacrifice her own career but she was also offered a research position she couldn't decline. The move benefited both her parents, it was her who was the complication. She hated the idea but didn't dare voice her opinion. The night before leaving, she explored their house for the last time and memorized the things and places she already knew. The Netherlands was not entirely foreign to her. She and her family paid a visit occasionally since her grandparents lived there. Her father speaks Dutch to her since she was young but being told this is home now was a different experience. She noticed that her Dutch was not the same as the Dutch spoken by children who lived there their entire lives. Her accent was obvious that she grew up elsewhere. For a while, she compared everything with Northern Ireland out loud to her parents until she stopped because there's nothing else she could do.

Is your character a Quidditch player/Broom racer/Duelist? Quidditch player (Second String Keeper)When she was ten years old, Elodie was not supposed to enter her father’s study while he was working. But when he left the door ajar one day, she saw it as an opportunity to explore. There was a small silver jewellery box on his desk and a tiny bird was engraved in the lid. Just as she was about to grab it, she heard her name being called. Her father's voice startled her and she accidentally knocked a pile of parchments, sending them falling onto the floor. "Oh no!" She instinctively reached for them but missed. What happened next was something she didn't expect seeing, the parchments were floating in midair and all she could do was stare at them in shock. His father did the same and both of them didn't move at all until the parchment started falling one by one. She turned to her father, still in shock as she asked him if it's because of her. Her father nodded calmly but there was a smile playing on his lips. Suffice to say, that incident resulted to simultaneous excitement and disciplinary action for going in his study without his permission. Needless to say she never attempted going in there again.

Born to two well-respected, wealthy pureblooded parents, Antoine was raised with love. Or, at the very least, conditional love. Affection was given when he accomplished something, and so, from a young age, Antoine has learned to perform. He is the first to offer his hand in a dance, the first to play the piano, the first to do any manner of captivating things. And all to impress Florence and Alphonse de Laurent. Antoine has been molded into the perfect Beauxbatons student, with perfect etiquette and an affinity for the arts. This was no accident, but rather the combined efforts of governesses and tutors, hired by his parents, turning Antoine into the pride and joy of the family.
But being the golden child has its downsides. Everything Antoine does, he feels, is met with scrutiny and interrogation. Step a little out of line, and its a thousand questions. "Why? Antoine, why?" was a phrase often repeated during the boy's mischievous childhood. He quickly learned his role, and how to garner positive attention, but he has always felt as if he is living under the thumb of his parents. And if not his parents, then whatever governess wasn't sick of him yet.
As he grew older, however, Antoine's demeanor began to change. The boy had accepted his predicament, and began to count down the days for him to leave the nest and his over-protective, over-questioning parents. Beauxbatons was freedom, away from the tense environment of home. It meant he could finally be independent and make his own decisions, as far as a school environment would let him, of course. Did his homeschooling affect his ability to make friends? Certainly. Did he care about that side effect? Certainly not. The thought of the castle called him, not the notion of friendship.

As a young child, frustration would often flow through Antoine's veins. The tiniest thing would send the fairly spoiled child into a frenzy. And it was during one of his frenzies that his first instance of magic occurred. Antoine was sick of his lessons, and angrier still at not having seen his parents at all for days. They were busy people, of course, always heading out to one business dinner or the next, and Antoine had had enough of it. He had had enough of everything, in fact. This was at the age of 7, and as he threw a tantrum he let out a scream, hands curled into fists, eyes closed tight. When he opened his eyes, the candles in front of him had been lighted, when they had been unlit just a second ago. His governess calmed him, and the discovery was shared that evening over a family dinner. His parents gave him nods of approval, and then promptly told him it was impolite to eat with his elbows on the table.

Antoine's Veela heritage is fairly new in the family tree, dating back to Florence's mother. Florence de Laurent, then called Florence Dubois, was born to a pureblood wizard and a Veela mother. Her father, Julien Dubois, was a performer, using his exceptional strength and levitation magic to entertain children, young and old alike. The man knew the value of an entertaining persona, and he was quick-witted and charming. It was during these travels that he encountered a Veela.
At first, Julien did not recognize the being for what she was, only seeing the most beautiful woman that he had ever seen. No doubt he had caught her eye with his impressive displays of strength. However, he was determined to know more about her. Whenever they talked, Julien knew there was something different about her, but he couldn't quite place what. It was only when they had Florence that she revealed who she was.
Although Julien was willing to raise the child together, the Veela vanished as quickly as she had come. He looked all over the city for her, only to find no trace of her. He was left with Florence, who had taken completely after her mother. The same pale blonde hair, the same light blue-green eyes.
Julien tried his best, but Florence simply was not suited to the life of a travelling performer. She wanted stability; she wanted a home. There were quite a few tantrums, some that Julien could barely handle. But, despite everything, Florence picked up quite a few skills with their lifestyle. Her Veela heritage meant she was already beguiling, and Julien was sure his daughter's beauty knew no bounds. Florence quickly picked up her father's charm and quick wit, sometimes even joining him in his performances, which led to many more people than usual watching.
One of these people was Alphonse de Laurent, spotting them while on a stroll through Paris. He was completely entrance by this girl, who, for all her beauty, was acting as a magician's assistant. He was determined to speak to her, no matter what. And so, when the performance ended, he pushed his way to the front of the crowd and started up a conversation while her father was bowing to the crowd. Young Alphonse had no idea how drastically his life was about to change.
Florence, of course, was quite used to people attempting to approach her, but there was something different about Alphonse. He was forward, but not desperate. He stood politely waiting for her responses, and there was poise and charm dripping off his every word. And so, she did something she hardly ever did. She agreed to go on a date with him.
The rest was history. Florence kept her Veela ancestry quite hidden for fear of scaring him off. Little did she know it would be her savior when they were to be married. For all Alphonse's bravery, his parents disapproved of Florence. The woman had undeniable beauty, but they expected their son to marry someone of higher social rank. Alphonse was adamant, and for a while, this caused a rift in the family.
That is, until, Alphonse's grandfather recognized Florence to be part-Veela. The man had survived an encounter with a Veela when he was younger, and curiously, this young woman his grandson had brought home shared such similar features. And so, bluntly, he asked Florence if she was part-Veela. Florence, realizing she was caught, broke down, much to Alphonse's surprise. He had known there was something different about her, but he certainly hadn't expected her to be part-Veela.
However, this was Florence's gateway into the family. Gone was the disapproval that had been present just a few minutes ago. Instead, they praised their son for his good taste, and praised Florence for her beautiful heritage. This was when Florence learned that love can be conditional, even when given by one's parents. Once they were married, Florence quickly learned all the mannerisms and nuances of being part of high society.
And once Antoine was born, she knew she had to teach him the very same nuances, as quickly as possible. They would make him go far. Unlike his mother, Antoine had dark black hair, but, like his mother, his eyes were a light blue. Florence was grateful he didn't look like most part-Veelas. Now, he would only have to deal with the intriguing effect he may have on most people, but not be so hard to pinpoint.
Florence is proud of her Veela heritage; it has gotten her to many places. However, she prefers to keep it hidden, and has passed down this tendency to Antoine as well. Being part-Veela can have its downsides, and she firmly hopes her son will never have to face them.
