Despite Matilde’s worries about going to Hogwarts, one thing soon became clear when she arrived at school. She was really good at magic.

Matilde’s genes had a large affect on her advanced level of spell work. The O’Fionnagans were a fiery bunch, always ones to defend and care for the defenseless. They excelled in healing magic, and defensive spells. Matilde had definitely inherited many of these strengths, reflected in her magic as well as her personality.

Her grandfather’s family on the other hand, the Darres, were a powerful family. Great skill with transfiguration and charms seemed to run deep in their blood. Matilde’s mother had inherited this skill, and so it seemed had Matilde. Though it worried her mother slightly, as she saw in her daughter so much of herself.

Matilde wouldn’t hurt a fly. Quite literally. But her power was undeniable. Magic was just too easy for her.

Matilde was the kind of girl who’s head was always in the clouds. She was prone to carelessness when she wasn’t paying attention to her actions. That said, the girl knew how to work hard and focus when it was something she cared about. Her skills with her casting was just as much on account of her hard work as it was genetics. Each spell she learned in her first year, she became almost obsessed with, practicing movements and incantations until she could perform almost every spell with ease.

And then she participated in her first broomracing match in March of her first year. She’d been on the fence about the sport, but after the competition was over, she realized she just had to sign up. She couldn’t get over the exhilarating feeling. Although it was unofficial, it made Matilde realize that she clearly had a lot to learn if she wanted to make the team next year. She did practice flying, of course, but after some thinking decided maybe it was best to focus on spell work for the rest of the school year. She could, after all, practice flying at home, but would not be able to practice spells at home over the summer.

The first week back from school, Matilde began to resume her practice. It was a rather warm September day, and Matilde’s Hufflepuff dorm was stuffy and hot. Matilde stood up from her chair and picked up her wand from beside her bed. She recognized the opportunity to practice a spell that she had never quite gotten the hang of when she learned it last year. Concentrating hard, the girl swished her wand. “Nix” she said, her pronunciation and wand movement perfect. She smiled as snowflakes began to flow out of her wand.

There is something to be said about that gal called Oonagh, or often lovingly referred to as Oogie or demon and while not all of those somethings are nice, she was certainly capable and a force to be reckoned with even at such a young age. Her prowess had certainly made an impression on Pax, as they had almost immediately promoted the little devil onto the roster. And they weren't wrong to put their fate into the youngster. Oonagh had grown up living the wild life, helping out her mom on the farm, wrangling sheep and cattle and lounging on the topmost hay bale.

Butting heads with far too many kids at muggle school, she certainly got into plenty of fist fights that toughened her up. She is no stranger from facing down opponents far older and stronger than her or fleeing through busy alleyways and market places after offending one or another person she knew she would not be able to handle physically, possibly letting a trinket slipping into her pocket on the way out. Be it climbing, running, fighting or just simply going feral, she just seems to know how to handle situations the mundane way. Oonagh enjoyed such simple pleasures of life, living life and not letting a single person direct how she should lead said life. Her mother failed to make her behave, so what gave others the idea they could? Her mother was the toughest person out there and Oonagh admired her.

She taught Oonagh life and always encouraged her growth and individuality. Her mother was the one who had sat her down to explain the tool box to her, so Oonagh could help her fix the barn or fences. Oonagh was a mere child when she began assisting her mother during tasks or drove her father crazy with worry when she was climbing on all things she could reach; counters when she was younger, the barn roof and every tree around the farm now that she was older. There was no power in the world that could stop her from reaching a goal once she had set out to achieve it.

Even now she preferred finding ways around the use of magic, however she enjoyed whacking people with bludgers during Quidditch. Many times it was her gut ruling her decision making and most of her decisions followed one simple rule; do first, think later.

It was July sixth, 2024, when Brookline realized she wanted to be a healer, not a famous broom racer. Not just any kind of healer, a healer who could heal both physical and emotional harm. Well, we couldn’t heal emotional harm with a wand but you know what I mean.

On July sixth, was something Brookline couldn’t explain well. She wanted to help Peter with his emotional pain, and his physical pain. She wanted to help him, to help herself. She wasn’t sure how much help she needed nor did she know how much Peter needed. Lest she unsmart with herself with the knowledge she hadn’t known or known already, she read all she could about healing and more. Healing was her one priority, as her heart couldn't take much more of more than one thing. If she had to take more, then her heart would split in two, and all the time spent reading on physical pain would be waste.

Over the summer break and summer camp, Brookline practiced spells, read books about healing spells, and two to do them, and she tried to take her mind off of a few things, her horrible bastard of a father, Peter, and the rest of her family. She didn’t have to pay attention to them if she was reading. Paying attention on things she didn’t need to know now but will need to know in the future. Nor could she take her mind of those quite few things, it just made her read harder and quicker.

When practicing those spells, Brookline had a open book in front of her, reciting the spells from the very book. The leather of the old dog-earred book felt cool under her hands as she read it, letter by letter, word by word, page by page, chapter by chapter. The old musty book drafted up to her nose, breathed in deeply and continued reading, convinced. Then she’d finished casting the spell, either failing or a spell came to life. Every time, Brookline tried to the spell, but unfortunately it was always a flop. She always tried again though, she never really completed it, but she tried her hardest, her face tighted, and her lips in a firm line.

When Brookline had finished a book, in the Library at Hogwarts, and it wasn’t curfew, she’d read more, lest she didn’t fall asleep while reading. If it was curfew or close to it, she’d rushed to the Ravenclaw tower, hoping desperately not to get caught by a prodding perfect or doting professor. She’d skid to the Common Room, and hopped into her bed, a another dog-earred book in hand. and reading it til she fell asleep. If she was at her beloved home in small Ferndale, Wales, she’d take a quite old book from her small bookshelves, that one she’d already read a few times already, her library, and read it half past midnight, the moonlight beams shedding their light, upon her slouched posture til the early dawn.

Watching sunsets and sunrises was a ridiculous rookie routinely thing for Brookline, never seemingly getting to sleep when she needed to. Sleep was her main priority, if she wasn’t reading a book she’d already reread more than twice, or school cropped their way into the picture.
yes, I know i haven't finished the solo, yet, but hoping to finish it before winter break.

Ivy Warren has always been a bit peculiar, from the way she dresses, in an earthy bohemian-style fashion, to her love of talking to animals and trees, though they needn't respond. If she were a muggle, her goal would be to bridge the gap in communicating with animals, however that is nary the case.

Ivy's grandmother never knew if Ivy would be magical or not, given that her own daughter was not magical, though she had left behind some, let's say, artifacts should her bloodline ever produce a magical child... four items: A Quartz ball, a tarot deck, a pendulum, and a set of scrying runes.

Ivy's grandmother also liked to use her own divination skills for her gambling affliction, had had used them to find out about Ivy's mother's suitor and his true intentions, although she could not reveal anything due to her requirement of keeping the wizarding world a secret to her family.

When Ivy's grandmother noticed Ivy's strong intuition, she often encouraged Ivy to think beyond what her senses could tell her. She felt strongly that Ivy might just be a squib with divination talents, seer or not. Her husband also helped Ivy to develop her intuition by trying to instill in her a deep sense of morals, values, and empathy.

Although Ivy's grandparents passed away, it's almost as if their spirits continue to guide poor, confused Ivy through the tumult of being ripped from her old life in the States and her new, different, but not bad, life in the United Kingdom. Then eventually, Ivy was being ripped from that life to join a world that she knew nothing about. Yet it still felt like Grandma and Grandpa were still there guiding her in their own ways.

When it was determined that Ivy would be attending Hogwarts, these artifacts were given to her through a magical beneficiary-team, though they look mundane and muggle-witch like rather than belonging at an institution of magic such as Hogwarts. Still, as a treasured gift from her late grandmother, she would bring these items to Hogwarts with her, and eventually discover she has a knack for divination. Not only that, but she finds the study of interpreting signs and symbols fascinating and exciting; like putting together a puzzle with new information and pieces constantly unfolding.

Ivy was proving to have a strong intuition and a knack for using it, especially around animals. People would have thought she could communicate telepathically with them, though that's a bit too mad, isn't it? Still, it was almost as if she could sense danger nearby, such as whether a dog is acting more out of fear or out of rage... without spending much time analyzing the body language. She could just sense in her gut if something felt wrong or right, regardless. And she uses her intuition often, trying to discern her best move in her life such as in how she can make the best decisions of the least evil, or in what feels like the correct thing to do in a particular situation.

Oakleigh always had a knack for avoiding things. She always found herself in the right place at the right time somehow. She always just thought it was dumb luck. Her entire life she has always had a deep connecti0n to the unknown. Even if she hated the unknown, things she couldn't predict, she guessed often. Her mother would tell her to guess what happened, and she would already know. Oakleigh didn't know why she knew, she just did.

When she was in muggle school, she would always know when there was a pop-quiz, even if it hadn't been said. "It's just a hunch," she would answer whenever someone would ask. Oakleigh just thought she had a talent for guessing games. Not all the time she would know or even be right, but it was odd enought the times that she was. Time after time she would be right, and have no clue as to why.

She didn't know her family's past of Seers. Her father's side, long ago when Vikings ruled at large, her however long grandfather was a seer. He helped take the Bell Clan to victory against a greenland armada. Claude Bell. Oakleigh knew about her Viking heritage, but not that her ancestors were Seers as well. Now, on her mother's side, it was totally unknown. She thought her mother was a muggle born. She was, techinally. Her mother came from a long line of Squibs, their magical heritage forgotten as they married more muggles. Her great-great-grandmother, alive during the victorian era, was a Seer. A naming seer to be exact. She helped wizarding familes decide names for their children, due to what would fit them in the future. Alice, her great-great grandmother, married a muggle, and their three children were all squibs. They raised them in the world of magic, but they all turned away from it, despising it because they weren't magical themselves.

As a child, her father was amazed by the muggle act of Tarot reading. He took Oakleigh and her brother, David, to muggle ren faires to see this talent in action. Oakleigh was skeptical at first, but ultimantly decided to give it a chance. She watched, amazed at how the muggle woman worked with ease, her words coming out of her mouth so elegantly. The three cards were laid out for her father, and Oakleigh, being a sassy seven year old, spoke up. "You drew the cards wrong." This small child, who hadn't a clue what tarot cards were before this point, took the deck and re-drew the cards for her father. They were the same cards, except the way they were, facing away or towards her father, were different. The woman was not happy, and decided to send her family away, not even bothering to give a refund. Oakleigh doesn't remember this moment in her life, due to being so young. for her father however, it was always a special thing for him. He had known Oakleigh was special, but that moment proved it to him.

Another instance of her being right was including her brother. He always went around the house, boasting about how he would be the first Slytherin in the family. Oakleigh always said he would be a Hufflepuff, just due to how happy he was. In the future, (Once she is a second year), her brother would be sorted into Hufflepuff, exactly how Oakleigh said he would be.

Having been homeschooled for the first 11 years of her life, Nat would sometimes go a little stir crazy, and so was very much aware of when her father worked from home. She loved spending hours on his lap, watching him brew potions; it was a great distraction and it stimulated her young mind. However, this also meant the occasional mishap with (slightly; he had enough sense to not put her near the dangerous work) toxic fumes. Although her mother let her hang out with him for these occasions, he was not the most aware and careful person when it came to safety if there was not a blatantly obvious threat or hazard.

Nat became very acclimated to the smells (and tastes, for safer potions, which her father on occasion let her taste test on little trays) of potions and even on some level subconsciously learned tastes and smells of many different kinds of toxins. This ran deeply, to the point of where if she ran into a toxin or potion she didn’t know, she could subconsciously recall other tastes and smells that were similar and make the connection.

Once when she was five and her father left the room for what felt like one second to him (dads…), Nat accidentally swallowed some of a vaguely poisonous substance from his primary working table. At once, her parents took precautionary preventative measures (basic charms) and flew her to magical emergency services. On the doctor’s seat, she coughed and spluttered, instinctually fighting for her life. She retched and enough of the poison was upended out of her. Nevertheless, her body remembered its traumatic incident, which meant that going forward, her body was quicker to identify if something may have been ingested that was somehow off, leading to a greater-than-average retching, as well as, generally, immune, response.

With a moderate natural/non-magical metabolism, Nat’s many bonding experiences with her dad over the years–the good ones as well as the accidents–built up her metabolism more thoroughly when it came to potions and poisons. Along with this, whilst the Andersons did not win in other biological avenues (such as that they have rather inflexible knees), they did win in that they very rarely experience illnesses. Therefore, if an Anderson feels extremely sick, it is a bigger deal and could be a sign something is very wrong; helps Nat to notice signs of illness from poisons faster so she can start resting and healing herself sooner.
Thank you for your time!

Getting the Wand (717 words)
Reducio
Axyen could remember his second summer from Hogwarts, nearing the end of the year his wand simply felt... off in some way. His magic casting just didn't really feel the same to him and he couldn't explain why this would be the case. On the train ride back home with Arnold (Axyen's Pygmy Puff), Axyen wondered if his wand was somehow damaged. It was working fine earlier and in the middle of the year... why would it suddenly not work now...? Axyen didn't understand it, he wasn't too knowledgeable in terms of how wands worked, so he didn't get why this was happening? Did he somehow break it? Maybe his wand went 'bad' after using too many spells...? Could wands even lose their magic to begin with - the spells were off, but they weren't less effective or more effective whenever they worked so it was confusing. Axyen was worried, the wand he worked with for so long wasn't working and he didn't know why. When he got home, he decided to bring the topic up with his parents - after explaining the sudden issue, they decided to talk to... his grandma! Yay! Axyen's grandma was a pretty fun woman to be around, she had incredible stories to tell about Fantastic Beasts and Axyen would just listen to her words carefully, curious about every single word she had to say to him. What Axyen didn't know was that his grandma actually used to be a wand maker! Axyen never knew about that before, so he was actually pretty interested in her work but that could wait for another day. Axyen would explain the situation, one day, he was just doing a bit of good old spell practice but every cast spell felt off and sometimes his spells didn't work at all! Axyen was concerned for his wand especially after it worked for him for over a year - he took good care of it too, so why would it fail to work...? Axyen's grandma listened to the entirety of the story and determined that the wand was no longer a proper match for Axyen. Axyen looked up at his grandma confused as she motioned Axyen to follow her. The young Dragonclaw was confused, greatly confused about where he was going. The two would walk and walk until they came across a closed wand shop, this was his grandma's shop?! Axyen would've never guess that his grandma was a wand maker if his wand had never stopped functioning. The next thing that Axyen could recall was that he was now carrying boxes of wand, he was trying out a set of them. His grandma could notice that a key pattern that Ash wood or a Phoenix Feather core seemed to somewhat work for Axyen, so she went into the back room and got a new box. Axyen looked over to the box as he accidentally shattered a vase for the second time with a wand that didn't suit him.

Axyen looked over to his grandma, she told him to try this new wand. The wand was eight inches (20.32 centimeters), so it had a good feel in Axyen's hand. It was also quite flexible too, how interesting. This would definitely take a bit of adjusting for Axyen - but somehow, he felt connected to his wand in a new type of sense. His grandma told him to wave his wand and the Badger would listen to instructions, a vertical golden cyclone of magic seemed to surround Axyen momentarily (it was just a golden trail, but for Axyen it was much more dramatic feeling). Axyen's grandma stepped forward and stated that Axyen's wand was a 20.32 centimeter long, Phoenix Feather Core, Ash wood wand that was quite flexible. Axyen had absolutely no clue about what any of that meant. Maybe that was something to ask his grandma or study in the library after summer break ends. Axyen loved his new wand, it felt a lot better and more... reliable in an odd sense, it had a great feel to it. Axyen was truly grateful to his grandma, when he got back home, the first thing he did was talk to Arnold all about how his day went, most of the conversation centered all around his new wand which he would take to Hogwarts...

The Wand (414 words)
Reducio
Axyen will have an Ash wood, Phoenix Feather core, 20.32 centimeter long wand that is quite flexible.

Axyen's wand is made of Ash wood because of a few defining traits about Axyen. He is a kind and loyal person, he is willing to go out of the way for his friends if they need help. Even in awkward social situations which he would be pretty uncomfortable in, if it would somehow help his friends in any way, Axyen will go into that situation without any hesitation. Additionally, Axyen's kindness and friendliness to others is what helps make the Ash wood suited for him; Axyen isn't known to be brash, overconfident, or arrogant as he himself finds a disliking to such traits similarly to the Ash wood. (109/50 words)

Axyen's wand core is made from Phoenix Feather. Axyen is great with magic, he actually has powerful spell casting (with an Arcane Strength of 15, the cap for a third year, which is the time I am writing this). Axyen is also a very determined individual, with him being a duelist, he works hard to try and win for his team. He constantly thinks about not trying to let Hufflepuff down, so he must keep dueling for Hufflepuff and to keep the audience entertained as well. Axyen worked hard to try and improve his magical capabilities and to always be able to keep up with his opponents. (107/50)

Axyen's wand is 20.32 centimeters long or eight inches long, sort of in-between being short and long because Axyen is both lively yet refined with his magic, but his wand leans more to the short side as Axyen likes to try and keep his calm in most situations and is a more laid back person for the most part, up until you begin to start talking to him which his more excitable and lively side is revealed. (77/50)

Axyen's wand is quite flexible, this is because of Axyen's curious nature. He is always open to new ideas while other ideas he remains rather firm in such as his belief that Muggles are good people and aren't too different from wizardkind or his opinion that Magical Beasts should be treated on the same level as human beings. Other topics for the most part, will have Axyen being able to change his mind consistently as he is opened up to more perspectives. He actually often even seeks out new perspectives by researching in the library or any other materials he may have access too. (104/5o)

Alejandro is technically a half-blood but if you looked at his life before coming to hogwarts, you would realize that he is more of a muggle. Due to Alejandro never being exposed to magic in his early years, he prefers using the muggle way to solve a problem. Someone insulted you and your family? No problem, nothing a good old fistfight can't handle. Oh, your toy's broken? Just buy a new one. It's not like we can repair it with magic or something. To add to that, Alejandro attended muggle school for his whole life. He's always been taught by his teachers and parents to fix things using 'the muggle way'. Not by just waving your wand and saying a few silly words. An example of this was quite recently during the summer holidays. When he was going back home from hanging with his muggle friends (Yes, he does have muggle friends but not much).

I walked back from the park. Time really does fly when you're having fun. I missed my muggle friends at Hogwarts. Of course, I'd made new friends there but still, Oliver and Mikael have been my best friends for six years. Bit of a shock for them when I arrived at their house. It had taken a bit of convincing for them to believe that I had been sent to a boarding school outside of London, which technically is the truth.

I had walked them back to their separate house before going back to mine. It was a short walk from Oliver's to mine but trouble still seems to somehow find me in this short time-frame. I caught a glimpse of an unwelcome face on the dimly lit streets. A bully of mine at muggle school. Well maybe not really a bully. I fought back. Not like some helpless nerdy boys who get beaten up every single time. Rivals maybe, but I don't respect him to call him rival. So until I find a better word for me to describe him. He's a bully. A huge boy came into view and laughed.
"I heard you went to a boarding school. Do they stuff your face down the toilet on the first day?" he said.
"So tell me, how'd a wimp like you survive boarding school? Bet you were crying for your mummy every single day." he continued.
"Oh just shut up for one second Oscar. Your breath bloody stinks!"
His face turned pink and he shoved me against the wall.
"Listen here punk, I haven't seen you in a long time. Consider this a welcome-back gift." he whispered and punched me in gut.
Perhaps Oscar should ease off on the pies. His knuckles felt like a sack of potatoes dropped on my gut.
"What're you doing?" a lady's voice called out.
"Nothing miss, just playin around." replied Oscar.
I slowly stood up, fighting the pain in my gut. When his head turned back I punched him as hard as I could in the face. He staggered backwards clutching his face. Oscar glared at me. I don't think I did any damage. All it did was anger the big boy in front of me. Then I ran. Ran, yes. I mean I sprinted back home as fast as I could without ever looking behind me. Running away from danger, or a beatdown in my case, is recommended by 9/10 people. The one that does not say so is obviously a psychopath.

Pride, ambition, and self-discipline are characteristics that have always come naturally for Illowy Magnard, in everything she sets her mind to do. Even when she was young, whether it was violin or ballet, she held herself to a high standard of achievement. She wanted to be the best, perfect even, and if she couldn't be that, then she'd be as close to it as possible. That mindset never faltered after stepping on the Hogwarts Express for the first time. If anything, being thrown into an environment, surrounded by peers that were all talented in their own ways, only fanned the flames that she needed to find where she thrived, and excel.

Since arriving at Hogwarts, Illowy has spent the majority of her time constantly trying to hone and improve her magic. She has been relentless in her work and studies trying to prove herself to be a strong and formidable witch. Though to whom she's trying to prove herself to, be that herself or others, is up for debate; but one cannot debate her drive. Coming into Hogwarts, she took to her studies like a fish to water, advancing ahead of many of her peers in Charms and Transfiguration. She joined the Duelling team and held a reputation for not holding back in matches, and was diligent during practices; she took a hit like a spark to fuel, never backing down or backing out. When she's decided on a goal, the only thing that will stop her is knocking her clean out until there's physically no ability to keep going. Surrender isn't in her vocabulary. Neither is failure.

The nights spent studying, quietly practicing, working, are countless. Beyond her own goals and ambitions, Illowy has watched so much happen around her, and experienced so much in her time at Hogwarts, that she understands the value of being strong and capable in any situation. The times were she wasn't strong enough to protect herself, much less her peers or her House, are drive enough to keep raising the bar for herself. She needs to be dependable when something inevitably goes wrong. She has to be ready for anything otherwise, all her work, all her experiences, all the good and the bad... it would all be for nothing if she can't help or protect what matters to her.

Each bar she set for herself, she met. She perfected the basic curriculum, so she moved on to harder spells and achieved becoming an Animagus. The next goal post to hit was to hone her control and magic until she achieved the ability to cast spells non-verbally. It's the natural elevation of her ambition and goals to shift her focus to being able to cast without any wand at all. One can't be totally disarmed if they can manage without a wand, even if just long enough to get it back. You don't have to get ready if you stay ready. And Illowy is nothing if not keen on staying ready for anything.

After honing her skill to preform non-verbally, Illowy wasted no time trying to hand (literally and metaphorically) at executing spells wandlessly. Magical children do it by accident every day, surely she could manage it as an almost adult if she had enough control and will. Like everything else she's poured herself into, hours, days and night were dedicated to getting it right. Starting with small spells like Reparo or Wingardium Leviosa; taking it all back to basics like she was relearning magic all over. Tedious and frustrating work, but its the same approach she'd taken with non-verbal and it stands to reason it would be the best method for her. Especially with enough determination to see it through.

Please include more detail as to how Illowy learned/practiced the skill. How did she progress from non-verbal magic to wandless magic?

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: blindvision
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
Nicky spent most of her summer locked up in the attic, trying to forget the disaster that her last season had been. She was not very happy with her results in the matches. Three losses, all equally crushing for both her and her teammates. She felt especially bad for Kim who seemed to take it the hardest. And if only she, as the eldest member of the team had tried harder, maybe they could avoid having an absolutely awful season. Still, she couldn't understand, what she had done wrong. And she spent most of her days sitting in the dark, reading her grandfather's old Herbology books and trying to make sense of everything that was going on.
Nicky had no idea how much time had passed when one day she managed to read throughout the night without turning on a flashlight. She had simply lost track of time and it never got as dark in summer as it did in winter, so she managed to accomplish it pretty easily. And the next day she did it on purpose because she wondered how long she could keep this up. As the nights grew longer and the days shorter, she was surprised to find out that her ability hadn't disappeared, instead her vision seemed to have been enhanced, even though her mom always used to say that reading in the dark was going to be bad for her eyesight. Eventually, she just decided that was the way it was going to be and didn't pay much attention to her newly found ability. It didn't occur to her that being able to see in the dark made her special, among other things. So she went on with her life and even went out of her room to have fun with her siblings eventually because she couldn't resist her brother's offer to check out his new robot and missed her grandparents. But the new ability she had acquired didn't go anywhere even though she didn't read in the dark as much anymore. She couldn't wait to see if she could use it in duelling when she went back to school for the next semester. After all, seeing in the fog after a nebulus spell would come in handy eventually. She couldn't wait to tell her teammates too to practice the ability with them. Maybe she'd be less hopeless this year because of it.

Reason for Pending:
1. Blindvision is the ability to see without eyes. This means you will not rely on your eyes to see. Other senses will be stronger when your character is in the dark. Note that this does not mean that
the other senses can replace the vision, but to give advantage to your character to live in the dark.
2. Your application is 399 words. The word count requirement is 400 words minimum.
