Also you can't put them in your trunk yourself, you have to fill out an update form to have a staff member put them into your trunk and wait for them to do so.

Yes. But you don't auto get them into your trunk. You still have to make a list of the spells from the previous year that you would have learned and post the update trunk form. Then wait for them to be put into your trunk by a staff member. You auto learn them but you still have to manually write a trunk update post and have them be put into your trunk, in order to use them.

You graduate at the beginning of July as long as you are registered in the index.
It passed you up and slipped you by. But we're all bound to end up back to where we started

If you are in the index you graduate beginning of july, I believe it has no connections with homework. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Keep your PC indexed until the beginning of July every year.

You graduate to the next year every July 1st. You do not need to do anything to go to 2nd year. All you need is to be registered in Index that's it. You will know you're in there when you see your name listed there and when your trunk post says Game Master instead of your own name. Once you're in Index, you auto go into the next year. UNLESS you want to stay a first year/your current year, then you have to contact a staff member to let them know not to move you up. It officially says 2nd year (or whatever year you're going into) within 1 day - 2 weeks after July 1st.
As for spells/potions, you auto get all the previous year's spells/potions regardless of whether you've done homework or not. HOWEVER, you cannot instantly use these spells/potions until you post in the trunk update form and add them all to the list. Once they are put into your trunk by a staff member, that is when you can use them.
