Valentine's Tea
As Ethen was lost in his reverie and infatuation with the delicious cookie, he scrunched his face some at the curious question asked to him. He wasn’t sure what a Santa was but he assumed it had to be something spooky enough to require him to hunt it. “Santa? I don’t know what that is but if you need help fighting this ‘Santa’ then don’t worry...I’ll be ready and waiting,” he said with a gleeful grin hoping the great battle would come sooner than later. He couldn’t wait forever to battle this strange Santa that Mildred had brought up.Interacting With: @Mildred Wilson
Upon the potential request for him to one day join her in a spooky forest that may be filled with raw potatoes, Ethen knew the girl was more than she let on. If she was going into some potato forest or needed him to do it, it could only be for something of dire importance. “I’ll do it… but those potatoes better watch out. If even one steps out of line BLAMMO! I will zap it into dust with my super secret spells,” Ethen boasted despite his severely lacking ability to even conjure spells of the basic variety. He tended to rely on Atlas for that aspect, instead focusing on a rather expansive knowledge of plants.
“Well growing up around here has to be exciting at times as well,” Ethen smiled as she relayed wher she had grown up. He had traveled quite a bit which had its bonuses but never really staying anywhere long had always made it slightly difficult to create longtime friends. “Life was great! My parents work helping creatures so I helped too but sometimes I would get lost chasing a monkey or something and get yelled at.... It was really hot though… Way way too hot,” Ethen said wide-eyed as he remembered the blistering heat they would face each summer. It was a sensation that he wasn’t exactly keen on revisiting.
Ethen couldn’t help but laugh at her suggestion that he may meet someone that he would date in the future. At this point, Ethen had only met two people both of who he had enjoyed but being drenched in tea probably not the best impression on his end. “Oh thank you but I don’t know about that. Me and girls don’t tend to work. I get covered in tea or fall into the mud or get chased by small animals… Those tend to keep people away well enough,” he snickered as he thought about all of the perplexing glances he had received through most of his life. “But! Hopefully, you meet someone you can date here,” he quickly added.
Her follow up question about liking anyone at the school caught him off guard and he could feel his cheeks redden slightly. He didn’t know why it embarrassed him to discuss such a topic but there was something about relationships and feelings that still made him feel well beyond his element. “No,” he blurted out perhaps a bit too loudly. “Um… I don’t really know many people here and I am just trying to make sure I make it through each day. What about you?” he said still feeling rather flustered by the topic.

Valentine's Tea
With all the French food being described, Atlas had an urge to travel back to Touraine and try out some of these new foods she was getting from Teiki. "I have never had a quiche before because the name always makes me scrunch my nose." Atlas confessed. "Galette de roi, now that one just roils right off the tongue doesn't it?" Atlas giggled bouncing her head as she repeated it several times.Interacting With: @Teiki Laurent
"Since you have lived in France practically your whole life, is there a couple of restaurants that are your favorite or do you and your family prefer to eat at home and whatever your preference elaborate on why you prefer one over the other," Atlas questioned as she was eager to see if she had missed some hidden gems when she had traveled to France.
Hearing Teiki's continued question made Atlas light up. She was never afraid to talk about her family or her past and so far the conversation had been moving very easily and a lot had already been covered but they still had endless things to ask. Waiting until Teiki had finished asking all her questions, Atlas thought for a moment before answering each one.
"Yes both my parents are Scottish, hence why my thick accent is near impossible to hide not that I would ever try to but yeah we are all delightfully Scottish. My father grew up in the small island of Barra in the Outer Hebrides but once he left for school he never wanted to live there again because it is relatively boring compared to many of the places we have traveled to." While giving out her answer, Atlas had another question pop into her head and was eager to ask it before it slipped her mind for good. "Are both your parents French or did one choose to move there to get to know the other?"
Trying to remember the second question, Teiki had asked Atlas thought for a moment raising her eyebrow as it popped into her head. "Growing up when I didn't have school my family and I traveled all the time. My father is an Auror so his job takes him all around the globe and my mom works in the Department of Mysteries so when she wasn't too busy there she would tag along otherwise it would just be my father and I and he pretty much brought me along on any trip he could because he knew how much I adored it and he always said, Mark Twain has said that travel is the antidote to ignorance. It is because of my father and mother that I am so open about creatures and other people because I have seen everyone and everything from all walks of life. I am against the mistreatment of house elves, muggle-borns and frankly any animosity because everyone has a story and a life so much different than mine and there is no room in learning to judge."
"I tend to be closer to my father because of all the personal trips he and I have shared together but I am fortunate enough to have two incredible parents whom I love with all my heart." Talking about her family made her a tad homesick but she knew soon enough she would be home again to tell them about all of the friends and pranks she had gotten away with while here. "It is definitely going to be bizarre being kinda glued to a home and place for seven years but this school is a mystery in its own right with all of its winding staircases and hidden rooms so I'm sure I'll be busy trying to discover everything but no doubt it will take some getting used to."
As Teiki talked about animals, Atlas perked up. "Oh you love creatures too! That's fun! I have always had an interest in every magical and non magical creature except spiders...I don't know what it is about spiders and roaches but they creep me out and cause me to shrivel in place. I love the idea of the Forbidden Forest but my father made sure to remind me of the giant spiders lurking in the shadows and now my common sense side and prank sides are at war..." Atlas confessed already feeling a chill run up her spine as she shook in place looking down at her feet to make sure no spiders came running towards her at the sound of her disgust. "What is your favorite creature and what is a creature you know very little about but are fascinated to learn more? Oh! And on the medi-wizard front why do you want to become a medi-wizard?"
The conversation may have been taking a step away from food but as long as it was still a lively conversation Atlas figured it was alright.

Interacting with @Elsian Cox
Ginny smiled again. Perhaps she was an introvert and this boy was an extrovert (or at least, he seemed to be an extrovert), but she decided that she liked him anyway. Sure, extroverts can be loud and nosy sometimes; but if all people in this world are introverts like her, who would help her come out of the shell by starting a conversation with her?
Not many people have made Ginny comfortable at the beginning of an acquainting process, but Elsian was one of them.
She giggled when he accused her as a cheater for using his own question against him, because she knew very well he was joking - his smirk betrayed his own words. So after the Gryffindor stated that he would like to be better at dancing, Ginny turned to the paper at her hand. It was time for her to ask the green-eyed boy.
"Hum," she said. "It is asked here, 'If you were to patent an idea or thing, what would it be?'"
As the blonde waited for her partner to think and answer the question, her mind told her that the question on the paper was not bad - it was interesting, in fact; at least for her.
And she started to think her own answer, just in case Elsian would decide to use her own question against her!

Interacting with @Quinn Healy
Nico blinked, her cheeks still slightly red. Quinn was just as nervous as her. But what for? This feeling was strange. Did he... feel it too? Her eyes glanced up a his once more before letting out another word. She got lost in his blushing face again. His bright blue eyes were very distracting in the sea of freckles that typified him. It was cute and pleasant to observe. With all the red on his cheeks, his blue hues stood out even more. Like blue moons, peeking from behind a red cloud of galactic sublimity. (If that even was a word or something people said.) When the tiny piece of paper in her hands slid down ever so slightly, nearly falling out of her heands, she snapped back to reality. With alot or force she had to look down to the question. What was this question? Why was it so intense? Unless of course, not everyone had a deeply, horrible regret in life...
As her thumb fumbled with the edge, she wondered what Quinn could've possibly regretted in life so far. Was it... maybe getting the wrong pair of shoes? Her eyes peered down at his feet under the table. They were... so big. She wouldn't call them freakishly big but they were certainly... something.
Swiftly, Nico pulled her gaze away from under the table and straightened her back. Get your mind together. Don't be distracted. 'E-Ehm.. Okey. This is my question. Ehm... '
'What's been your... biggest regret in life so far...?' Shyly, she looked up at him, her ponytail resting over her shoulder. As she thought more about the question, she realised she didn't actually know that much about Quinn. He was Irish and had a lovely family. But what else was there about him? What was hidden under that layer of freckles and that cheerful, swooney smile?37. WHAT'S BEEN YOUR BIGGEST REGRET IN LIFE?
Like some of the other questions on this list, feel out the conversation and only ask this one if the moment feels right as it could make her feel uncomfortable. Try to slip it in to conversation if she mentions a career path she could have gone down or a trip of a lifetime she never took. Just tread lightly.
You're gonna need a bigger boat

Wren had said too much.
That was written all over Rafa's face and in the tone of voice, he answered after with. She probably shouldn't of, gone into that much detail about both of their love lives, but she couldn't help it. Everyone thought they liked each other and she as just trying to clarify that they didn't.
After Olphie (the Professor in charge) had paired them up and given them questions to answer with each other. Obviously, Olphie had put Wren with Rafa. She rolled her eyes and turned to Rafa.
Rafa asked her what her pet peeve was and if she even had one. Yes, she had one. Didn't everyone?
"My pet peeve is when someone interrupts me while I'm reading peacefully. I may talk a lot but I'm really just an introvert at heart. Anyways the question I got for you was:
have fun answering it. Oh, and by the way what's your pet peeve Rafa? Do you even have one?"24. WHAT’S THE MOST SPONTANEOUS THING YOU’VE EVER DONE?
Is she a thrill-seeker or a free spirit? You'll find out if she's been running with bulls or scaled a mountain. "This is a great question to see how flexible she is," Sullivan explains. You can see if your personalities and interests jive, too.
Wren couldn't resist doing that. Rafa had kind of pissed her off a bit with the add 'Do you even have one?' That was obviously aimed at her and her talking.
She realized she had completely overlooked the fact that Jo Morgan had walked over and joined their little group.
"Hey Jo!"
By the time she adressed the girl, Victor (having been paired with Jo) turned away and asked Jo his Valentine's Question.

Valentine's Tea
Interacting with : @Ruthie Greer and @Dale Kurt
Listening half-heartidly to the conversation between Ruthie and Cormac about Quidditch, Lark's eyes scanned the crowd. She noticed more people making an entrance, last minute but still.. some friends and one - her gaze fell to one nasty Gryffindor boy.. Of course he was here. From the little Lark knew about John he would do whatever to uphold appearances. Ruthie's offer to make a mad dash for the exit was starting to look more and more appealing when a nasty scream scrambled her thoughts.
"Wha-" A shiver ran up her spine, a small jolt of adrenaline kicking up the dust on memories of the ball. Memories she had stashed deep down inside of her. As her friend's hand grabbed at her arm, Lark's hand instinctively rose to meet Ruthie's. Another bought of yelling rang through the hall. Typical Hogwarts event... Lark grimaced at the thought. She had really been looking forward to just enjoying herself and proving to Ruthie that not every event here would be horrid.
"Merlin, that's Jake! He looks terrified,"
Following Ru's gaze, Lark saw the small Hufflepuff boy clutching onto his stuffed animal. Lark wanted to help so she quietly followed Ruthie. She hadn't been there for Jake during the Ball, hadn't really been there for much of anyone but had heard of how he had gone through a great deal on his own. She could only imagine what sort of thoughts were running through his head.
OOC: For the sake of speeding up this part... since I'm behind and you all have posted.. I'm skipping ahead a bit.
Seemed like the situation at hand had been settled as two Prefects stepped in and then the Flying instructor stood to take control. Relief washed over her as Professor Bercegeay began to go over the true plans for today then listed off the couples. Everyone seemed to be paired nicely -
"Ruthie Greer and Freddie the dog-"
Lark looked at Ruthie, her jaw hanging open slightly as it looked down to the plushie in Jake's hands. Well... she would never hear the end of this now... There was most likely a small verbal exchange in Lark's future once her and Ru returned to the Girl's Dormitory tonight. At least she hadn't been paired with anyone involved in the tea mess.. or worse. The last bit of pairing off that the Professor spoke was her and Dale. A flutter rose in her chest as her eyes darted across the room to where Dale had retreated. Would he be upset that they still ended up placed together even after him slipping off to sit with other people, another girl. Lark whispered to Ruthie about meeting up after before taking her paper and picking one of the tables nearest to them to sit at. She waited for Dale to make his way over, pulling open the paper and reading her question.. seemed a decent one. Nothing too embarrassing thankfully. Suddenly she felt like a massive ball of nerves, worry about what Dale might say or do. Honestly she had dressed up for the occasion and hadn't even gotten a second glance from him. For some reason the small slight from the Slytherin boy had gotten stuck in the forefront of her mind. Setting her hands in her lap, Lark lifted her eyes to check up on Ruthie who appeared to have an interloper with her and Freddie's date- Jorah? Oh boy.... Lark really, really wouldn't hear the end of this now.
Wishing she had bothered to grab some tea to soothe her nerves before all the chaos from earlier, Dale appeared before her. He looked nervous, almost as nervous as she felt. Or had she just been reading too much into his mannerisms as he greeted her again. "Hey.." She said flatly, still feeling sore from the earlier snub. Having Dale close seemed to calm a small portion of her anxiety and she couldn't help but be drawn in by his eyes. Really.. what had happened over break? He seemed so different from the stuttering almost shy boy she had come across in the Library.
"What's your favorite animal?"
Balling up her hands in her lap, Lark leaned back against the surprisingly comfortable chair. They looked so overstuffed at first they be stiff but they were pleasantly the opposite. "Well.." Lark bit her lower lip trying to dig up an answer. What a hard question to try and answer. Lark loved creatures in general and settling on just one... or even a handful would be a hard task indeed. "Magical I guess.. I would 'ave ta say it's a toss up between a Diricawl an' a Kneazle. Though Hippogriffs are wonderful!" Putting a finger to her lip she started to get excited about the topic. "Oh! And Jarvey! They're so chatty... but quite fun ta observe. I love horses.. so Kelpie's are another great creature." She realized then that she was on the verge of rambling and a blush set itself across her cheeks. "S..sorry.. Non-magical I really like wolves and horses.." A part of her wanted to admit that she had been fascinated with thestrals but that would lead to a conversation about how... that came to be. She still felt a chill in her blood remembering the night her and Ruthie had tried to help Shauna... Lark brushed the feeling away as quickly as she could. "Although after our talk forever ago I started ta get more of ah' soft spot for dragons. What about you? What's your favorite animal?" She would wait for his answer before offering up the question that she had been entrusted to ask. Even if some of the questions she could hear around her were a bit strange or possibly boring for some, Lark knew that the Professor had put a great deal of effort into the event and didn't want to deviate from the intended plan.
"Did you have any nicknames growin' up or now?" Lark read aloud, her stomach starting to rumble a bit. "Maybe... maybe we should break for some tea?" She hoped it hadn't been too obvious that she was that hungry but the break between questions might give Dale a moment to think. In all honesty even Lark couldn't think of what a nickname was that she had.

Valentine's Tea
He appreciated Tyranni's comfort and advice, even though it didn't entirely ease his problems; it at least felt good to be able to get some of the weight off his chest, what had been building up inside of him as of late.
"I can have both. But they can't," he replied glumly. He wished he could share more of the wizarding world with his Muggle friends and family, to not have to fudge the truth at all. Stupid rules… "I know it's pointless to think about, but if I could change things, I'd have both wizards and Muggles living together in the same world, without all this separation and secrecy, and paranoia about each other. But anyway…" History had its reasons, even though Andrew didn't entirely agree with the present setup. He brushed the thought aside. "I meant I couldn't tell Cody and Elmer the truth about Dan," he clarified. "I wish I could though. I've told them that Dan's captain of the rugby team. Closest I could think of to Quidditch."
His smile brightened up at Tyranni's attempt to redirect his focus, rather than keep him dwelling on his family. It was true. Andrew loved animals. The non-dangerous ones, that is. He could babble on about his pets forever…
"Well with me, I have my school pet, Penelope. She's a rat. I got for Christmas - not this Christmas that just passed, but the last one. I call her Pin-pin for short. Or 'Nelly', but I like 'Pin-pin' better. Oh! Her birthday is actually Leap Day. Twenty-ninth, this February. It'll be her first Leap Year birthday. I was thinking about throwing her a little party. Nothing big, but maybe a little picnic on the Grounds, if anyone wants to come. You're invited, if you like," he said enthusiastically. "Although I still have to make up invitations… No need to bring presents or anything like that," he emphasized, for anyone that might feel pressured to give something.
"Also, if you happen to find anything missing, be sure to check with me," he pointed out. "Pin-pin'll steal anything she can get her paws on. I have a whole Lost-n-Found pile of stuff she sneaks underneath my bed."
"As for my family's pets, back at home, we have two cats and three goldfish. Duchess and Princess are our cats' names. They're sisters. They're about three - four years old. We got them when they were kittens, at my aunt's farm. They were strays there. And Sparky, Ruby, and Dixie are our goldfish' names. We've had them for…a really long time. Eight years? Nine?... Anyway, the fish were my first pets. I'm the one who mainly takes care of them. I like fish. They're really calming to watch, floating around. That's one of the things I like about our Common Room. It's like being inside one of those oceanariums, watching all the Lake creatures swim around. Some people think it's spooky, but I find it really relaxing… So long as the glass doesn't break."
"And I don't mind talking about my family," he backtracked to the question that was written on Tyranni's paper. On the contrary, he was quite happy to talk about them. "I have my mum, my dad, my big sister Stacy and my little brother Kyle. Stacy is fifteen and Kyle is ten. So far, I'm the only one in my family that's ever gotten a Letter. I suppose Kyle could still get his, if his first magic is anything like mine. I never had any 'first signs'. None that I remember anyway. My first magic was when I was trying out wands at Ollivanders, the first time I went to Diagon Alley. The first wand I tried ended up busting a window in the shop, so that wasn't the one. But it proved I was a wizard, hooray," he cheered sheepishly.
"I mean, it would be great if Kyle turned out to be a wizard, and if Stacy could be a witch too… But in a way, it…kinda balances things out. . . Before Hogwarts, I was always just…there." He drew a blank, at a loss of how to describe himself before his entrance into the wizarding world. "Stacy was always the horse-crazy one, the artistic one, the baker. Kyle was always the genius in school; he's a math wizard. . . Me, I never really had any special skills or talents. I was just…normal. But now that I have magic… I'm not so invisible anymore. I have my own thing, and it's different. Gives me something unique, like Stacy and Kyle. Of course, it would be fun if Stacy and Kyle were with me, but thinking about it… I think one wizard is just the right amount for our family. Otherwise my parents would get lonely, I think. . . Someone's gotta cover for me anyways. Stacy and Kyle are good at covering for the three of us, keeping all the neighbors at bay, making sure no one gets suspicious of where I am. Besides, they'll fit better in the Muggle world than me."
Wow, he had been rambling for quite a while. Good thing Tyranni had the patience to listen to him without getting bored.
"And you? Do you have any pets?" He might as well return the questions. "And your family, if you can tell me about yours?"

Valentine's Tea
Jake shyly bumped Jorah's extended fist with his own. When their knuckles made contact, Jorah playfully brought back his hand and spread out his fingers to signify an explosion. "Boom,"Jorah replied enthusiastically, indicating that he was happy Jake didn't leave him hanging. Jorah asked Jake if he could join their party to which Jake answered with a shy nod of his head. "Come on, Jake," Ruthie guided Jake away like a protective older sibling. Jorah followed the duo and took a seat on a plush pink couch.
A china tea cup rested before him on a matching china dish. Just within his reach, a tea pot at the table's center. Jorah reached over for the tea pot and poured himself some tea. A thin wisp of steam floated into the air as the cup filled with a fragrant warm liquid. Jorah gently placed the tea pot back on the table. With his left hand, he lifted the saucer and tea cup under his nose. Wafting the tea, Jorah took in the pleasing aroma of a soothing Earl Grey tea. He wrapped his fingers around the tea cup's handle, intentionally keeping his pinky up. Jorah took a slurp, feeling the warm liquid travel all the way down to his stomach. "Mmm, that's good." He placed the saucer and cup back down.
Having settled in, Jorah reached into his robe and pulled out a Valentine's card. He handed the card to his friend. "Here Ru, I got this for you." While she looked over her card, Jorah turned his attention to Jake. He pointed towards Freddie the stuffed dog. "Hey Jake, is that dog yours? I have a stuffed animal too. He's a phoenix, I call him Joaquin the Phoenix."

Valentine's Tea
Interaction with @Nico Shymane
Quinn blinked a few times surprised by the question. Surprise visible on his face, his cheeks were still flushed but now the blush was beginning to fade from his cheeks gradually. His expression then rather quickly faded to one of apprehension, highlighted by sadness the corners of his lip seeming to tilt down at a slight angle. It seems the question did indeed strike a chord within the young Half-Giant.
One would be surprised at how much Quinn had to regret in his short life, he did well to hide it. He did well to hide many things, however Nico was someone he considered a close friend. Perhaps it was time he began truly trusting someone and revealing a bit more about himself. It couldn't hurt right? It was Nico after all if there was one person who wouldn't judge him it would be her.
Quinn closed his sighing, he had been silent for nearly 2 whole minutes in intense thought. "Well 'here's a question ah thought ah'd never be asked. Ah caeuld lie or reveal one of me sillier regrets. But...that wouldn't sit right me." He couldn't help but chuckle a bit. It wasn't bitter, or sad mostly matter of fact and maybe a bit solemn too. Strange for a 13 year old but then again Quinn wasn't most 13 year olds.
"So..." He pursed his lips rubbing the back of his neck uncomfortably. In truth he didn't want to tell her anything he wanted to keep his thoughts to himself and make up some bullshit excuse. This was Nico though when he looked at her, and furthermore when he looked into her beautiful blue eyes. He was filled with all kinds of strange emotions. Some he liked, some he didn't, and the rest he wasn't sure of.
Being with Nico was much like being with Santario or Rosie. He felt he could be his true self around them without fear of judgement. With Nico though it was a bit different, she not only made him feel calm but also filled him with something else he couldn't describe. His heart beat faster when he was around her, his chest felt warmer, and cheeks burned. It was weird but...oddly good. That's why in this very moment as he stared intently into her eyes he felt he could not lie to her.
Sighing heavily again, "...My biggest regret. Heh its simple I regret ever being born." There it was. The truth in all its depressing glory, the flood gates were now open. "If I was born a normal child then I would never have to suffer the humiliation, the judgement, the condemnation. Did you know growing up I didn't have many friends? Did you know that my own father looks at me with disdain? How about my own mother the person who raised me looking at me with an ashamed expression? I bet the answer to all of that is no. Of course how could it be anything but no. I never tell anyone anything." He laughed bitterly now his words slowly becoming angered and filled with venom.
"People treat me as a monster. I have to work three times as hard as everyone just so I can be treated fairly. My family as loving and as accepting as they are will never truly accept me no matter how close they get. I didn't fucking asked to be born the way I was. I didn't ask to be born a goddamn monster!" He raised his voice and his face was turning red once again. "I have to suffer the looks of so called ignorant purebloods, I have to accept the fact that no matter how hard I try I will always be slower then the rest. People are scared of me Nico and because of my mother that damned Harlin and Aeron exist!" He raised his voice again and was now shaking in anger. He couldn't stop himself. "So yeah my biggest regret is being born, Because if I was never born I would never have to experience nearly drowning, losing Brannigan, having this...this...damned mental disease, and worst of all I would never have to see those ashamed eyes of my mother...." He sat back his fists white as he squeezed them so tight.
Looking at the ceiling with a saddened expression it took him a minute to realize everything he said, and another few moments to realize he must have scared her. Shiiiiiit...he had to think of a way to quickly lighten the mood. Dammit Quinn! Come on you can't bring her down with your personal feelings. They don't matter you shouldn't show your sufferings to other its your problem to deal with. "..." He stared back at Nico, and immediately put his now cracked facade.
"But heeeeeey it's not all bad. I mean I got this awesome height, so everyone is my arm rest. Plus cookies! No hiding the cookie jar from me, and even bestest of all is my awesome strength. I can punch a tree and not get badly injured. I mean okay suuuuure I'm technically hurting a tree. But nature's scary! So nature gets my fist to its barky face!" He forced a laugh and it was obvious he was desperately trying to lighten the mood. It was almost too painful to watch as he went from one silly subject to the next. But what was even clearer was that Quinn probably shouldn't try to hide it in front of her. And given his current state it would be easy to notice his emotions, and to talk to him. He couldn't lie to her or anyone right now, he was tired of keeping up the facade.

»»————————- ♔ ————————-««Piérre's form loosened a touch the longer they sat, a smile of his appearing on the other. This, Astrea noted, was a good look on him- not many people went up to her to stay, and especially not enough to relax even slightly in her presence. The brunet was quite a peculiar one, but not unwholly unwelcome- The Slytherin's opinion of the Professor for pairing her with Piérre rose slightly from the bitterness she held over the woman's inactivity during the whole tea situation. He was an unknown, a stranger she knew nothing of his background or ambitions. But the longer the conversation lasted, the blanks she could fill.
Emerald eyes glittered as Astrea's talk of an answer sunk in, the elvish features of the other intensifying as her answer spilt from her lips like pebbles dropped into a river of secrecy, displacing the area and filling in a piece of the puzzle.
”I’ve never really been to a full-on gala myself-" The confession didn't necessarily take the aristocrat off guard, per se, but more reminded her of her tried and true role as an heir. Her way of life was dying out, dying out quickly. ”But if I’ve learned anything from the Masquerade that happened this last October, I don’t think I want to really be at a completely formal one either.
A hum of amusement left Astrea as the events of October's ball flashed back at her, something grim edging at the sound. "The Masquerade Ball was a disaster, I assure you that such events are not nearly supposed to be as- chaotic."
"I like dressing up, but peer pressure can be a little too much.” With good-naturedly sceptical eyes, the blueblood's eyes dropped down to scan Piérre's attire. "I can see that." The mock suit shirt the other wore was a gigantic contradiction to its wearer's words, the combination of white, red, and green garish and cartoony.
At her question, Piérre seemed to mellow out, taking a long second to think over an answer. She could identify herself in the male- the question was a particularly vague topic that required a great deal of clarification to get to know each other. A good question, Astrea could give Professor Bercegaey that, a good enough question to spark a decent conversation.
”I guess that’s kind of difficult for me to answer.” Piérre shook his head in thought, Astrea's cocking to the side in question. ”With so much emphasis in this world today on the blood purity of countless people... It’s so hostile. I don’t know why people can’t just be happy with themselves and satisfied with others. It’s paranoia. Nothing good can come from staying awake all night worrying or picking out everything wrong with another person, and so nothing good can come from fretting about how pure another wizard’s lineage can be- That’s not to say that every Pureblood or wizard born is evil or wrong for not being a Muggleborn or Halfblood themselves..." A strange feeling of- bitter realisation built up in Astrea's choice. Bitter realisation. And slight guilt. A hum of acknowledgement rumbled through her chest, her gaze looking out to the window as if the scenery of stone and earth would distract her. "I know that there have to be goods and evils on both sides of the spectrum... But being in the grey is really hard sometimes.”
Blood superiority ran rampant, Piérre was correct in that sense- though Astrea couldn't fathom the 'grey area' of the argument. Only the against and the for- the Four Bloodlines' were notorious for disregarding those with muggle blood and that branched out to all the international allies they gathered after all. There was a specific guideline to be accepted in, some of which was being a long-standing, strictly pureblood, human clan with a good reputation in the wizarding world. Astrea never thought about her side of the conflict, the conflict between Sparkless-blooded and pure, to be- wrong? Evil? Immoral? It was only different, simply it was was it was.
"That- is true. You are right, the conflict for blood purity is hostile. It's dangerous. And violent, at times." She's heard of riots happening, many years ago, against the wizarding kind. The Salem Witch Trials did devastation for the wizarding opinion of Sparkless. Even below the concept of outright violence, lay a history of sneers and ridicule coming from both sides of the conflict. "People are conditioned though, taught as their only idea that those of muggle descent- or wizarding descent- are irregular. So who is to blame- the children who spout slander to grow up the same way or the adults who discipline it, having learned it their entire lives?" Her words felt more like a vague confession than a question, a cover-up for a life spent learning only of magic and blood status and etiquette and properness.
The Sparkless found their way of life ghastly. Lonely. Too prim and proper with too many rules and regulations. She knew that much, overheard the whispers shared whenever she visited somewhere with her father, knew why the family relied so much on magic for transportation.
”Probably the atmosphere here. It’s nice to know that we are all magical, we call come from different backgrounds, different cultures, and different ethnicities...” A lift of an accent complemented his lasting words, familiar in a way that Astrea could practically feel the name on her tongue. Grey eyes dropped down fleetingly to Piérre's eye-catching shirt, the colours of the mock waistcoat jumping out at her. Italy. Italian. The colours of the Italian flag- clever. Very clever.
”It’s just so exciting to see so many kids here. I mean, in my old Muggle school, there were kids, but none of them were as diverse or interesting as everyone here!” Grey eyes gleamed silver at the edges with amusement as Piérre's exclamation rang out, her hair swishing as she nodded once. "Hm- It is quite reassuring, yes. The wizarding world may be divided, but the core of all- regardless of appearance- is the ability to harness magic. A wonderful, mysterious trait."
The table jostled as her partner kicked below it, posture suddenly meeker as his next words came out quietly. ”And you all seem so much kinder as well...” Oh. Well. How- Hm. How to respond to that statement? She felt like a deer in headlights, caught frozen with wide eyes and a lingering smile still on her face. From under the table, the Slytherin's fingers began to fiddle with the hem of her dress, pretending as if her attention wasn't solely on attempting to pry any joke from the statement. If it weren't for the keyword 'all', Astrea would have simply accepted it without a word. Astrea hadn't ever been described as 'kind' before. Perhaps proper or polite, well-said, well-dressed. Ladylike or scary, take your pick. But not kind.
"Well- I am glad that your opinion of Hogwarts, and by extension some parts of the wizarding world, is positive." Somewhat hasty were her words, trying her best to brush past the short burp in conversation and mind kicking up.
