the art of being a slag
@Rafael D'SpacitoIn a sense, Gem felt somewhat incapable of even carrying the title of Ravenclaw if he couldn't figure this out with the information he had. Gently, he reminded himself that it was a minimal amount of information, and there were a lot of conclusions to draw to at that point, though none were very conclusive ones.
He exhaled with a defeated air, picking at the tip of his index finger, suddenly finding it the most interesting thing in the world. "I don't know." He said finally, the small shake of his head a bashful one. "Ehm... I- I don't have enough information from wot ya found to go off of it." There was a sort of shame there, that he couldn't decode something he didn't know much about, but he didn't let the burden sit on his shoulders too long, for now.
"But... it is strange, an' if ya need me- if you find any new information I mean, then you know where ta reach me." He shifted a bit, putting his hands in his lap, stretching his back as to relax, sort of get his mind clean of any junk he didn't need, (even though it never worked like that) maybe get a breath of fresh air.
"I mean... aside all that, have you been all right? Not that sumfin's off, but... yunno, how's yer life? Family?"
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Rafa was quite surprised by Gem’s lack of information – part of him was almost disappointed, in fact, that the Ravenclaw hadn’t found anything from his collection of evidence. Though, he did have to put the situation into perspective for a moment. It wasn’t like he had found any meaning in the pointless clues of the Headmaster’s office, either. Perhaps he had just gotten too worked up. The amount of faith in Gem and his intellect was practically unending, sure – after all, the other boy had more than proven himself more than enough times to earn it. It would be silly of him, suddenly disregarding that faith. On the other hand, though, Gem was human, and not a supercomputer. Just like Rafa, he simply didn’t have enough information to make sense out of the growing mystery.
Rafa sighed, a half-smile coming to his face as he considered Gem’s offer. It was only false-consideration, anyways, as he had long since made up his mind. “I’ll definitely take you up on that one,” he told Gem wryly, a grin sneaking onto his features. “Perhaps you’re my greatest ally, you know,” he added. “Being the clever guy you are. How about this – Any information I get, I’ll run by you. That way, you stay updated. Then, if you find anything, you can let me know. Does that sound okay?” It was a bold offer, one he most likely wouldn’t offer to anyone else. In all honesty, there just weren’t that many people he could really trust. It was a sensitive topic, surely, one that Gem would need to tread carefully upon. Just with the information given now, came the danger of being involved in the growing mystery. Threats had already been exchanged, so there was definitely a level of danger involved in the whole situation. Rafa was beginning to regret offering such information, the more he thought of it – it would be devastating to find that Gem had gotten hurt over such a mystery. Though, he solace in the fact that Gem was tough and crafty. He can hold his own.
He nearly missed Gem’s last question – he was suddenly snapped back to reality, his thoughts registering Gem’s words carefully. It was a rather thoughtful question, if he were honest – a warm smile overtook the grin on his face. “I’ve been pretty fine,” he told Gem after a moment of thought. “Tired, bored, sure. I suppose that just comes along with the schooling, though.” He rubbed his neck awkwardly. “Family’s fine, too, I suppose – my girl cousins moved to England, actually. Living at the house right now.” He nearly shuddered at the thought of those two girls, a slight grimace coming to his demeanor. His girl cousins had gotten him in many a tough spot – it slightly worried him, seeing as they were going to be at his house when he returned. But there were better times to sort through those feelings. He pushed the thoughts of the two girls out of his head for the moment, focusing on the Ravenclaw. As the moments passed, he grew more and more interested in how Gem and his family were holding up.
“How about you?” he asked cordially. “Stuarts faring well?”

@Rafael D'Spacito"The Stuarts are fine," He exhaled, patting the side of Rafa's cheek with just enough force to push his face to the side a bit. "Me dad's workin' on a new album wiv his band, askin' me to play a few solos on it and all. Rick says he thinks I'm a prodigy, I don't know about that at all - but so does Wybie, and me dad says he's a bit of a slag... it's hard ta take a complement from an alleged slag, right?" He shrugged, leaning his head back against the wall, shutting his eyes when he heard the thud.
"I mean... that's what I've heard from me aunt. No one's really been sendin' me things, sort ov like they've forgotten me-" He stopped himself before he could continue, a bit embarrassed about the fact he might've overshared. "--but it happens."
"I've told Leland about you, he says, in his very own words, that it would be 'real jazzy' ta meet ya one day," He brought his fingers up to make air quotes, soon knocking his head into the side of Rafa's shoulder again, turning his head up so he was facing the side of his face. He'd taken a moment before he stole a kiss from Rafa's lips, grinning all big and dumb-like. He'd still gotten nervous about kisses, not so much cuddling or hugging - he wasn't sure why, maybe it was the contact. He had to (gently) remind himself that this was a new thing he was doing, he hadn't even really seen his parents do it in a very long time - and whenever he saw Leland doing it? Well, that was... a bit out of his reach? That was a light way to put it.

@Gem Stuart

Gem was being all cute again, telling Rafa about his family, and going on about whether he was a prodigy or not. To be honest, Rafa had no doubt in his mind that Gem was a prodigy – he seemed to be spectacular at everything he did. How would his guitar-playing be any different? In fact, he found it rather adorable that Gem was stressing so much over the simple fact. It seemed as if the boy would be the only person in the world to have done that – he wasn’t sure if Gem was being humble, or if he were just that clueless about his abilities. Now, Rafa may have been intellectually challenged, but he was not a dumb boy. He had long since put two and two together – it wouldn’t make much sense for him to be playing around on his father’s album for no damn reason. The hilarity of the situation put a little smile on Rafa’s face, subtle but noticeable.
Though, it concerned him quite a bit, upon hearing that Gem’s family wasn’t sending him any letters – his face, once barely suppressing his humor, was now a depiction of worry, his lip suddenly tucked between his lip in a worried manner and his eyebrows suddenly furrowed. It angered him a bit, upon hearing that bit of information. Family should build each other up, right? Sure, his relationship with his family [other than Diego] was almost nonexistent, but his sister still sent letters from Beauxbatons every now and then. Gem’s family, on the other hand – his stomach burned for a quick moment, his worried look becoming a look of anger. Though, he quickly suppressed it, his conscience overpowering his impulses – his anger would do no good in such a situation. Perhaps it would only make it worse, put salt on already open wounds. And that was the last thing he needed to do right now.
He looked upon Gem, trying to even out his worried expression. Though Gem probably wouldn’t know, his declaration really upset the Gryffindor boy. It’s just not fair. Though, he offered the boy a weak smile. “Oh, yeah?” he told the Ravenclaw, trying in his own way to lighten the situation. “Need me to rough anyone up, then?” Hearing the words leave his mouth, he felt another wave of anger – towards himself. There simply wasn’t any humor to be found in the situation, and for good reason. “Excuse me,” he added, a bit tentatively. “That was ill-timed. I’m, eh, sorry. About your family.”
He rubbed his neck awkwardly, suddenly feeling very alien in his own skin. His lack of helpful words was showing more than ever, making him feel estranged, exposed. It was a strange feeling, one he knew he disliked, and with a passion. He really didn’t want to upset Gem – the Ravenclaw’s opinion meant more to him than he had ever realized. He always wanted to be the best version of himself in front of the other boy – [Gem pushed him to be this way, whether he knew it or not. It was his mere presence that triggered such a response in the rebellious Gryffindor] – but, the more he tried, the harder it became. Because, the thing was, no matter how hard he could try, he would never be perfect. He had come to terms with this long ago, but being around Gem, sometimes his imperfections scared him. Feelings were difficult. Good thing there were other, more simple methods of expression your feelings, other than words.
He pushed these thoughts to the depths of his mind – there would be a better time to deal with those. It occurred to him then that Gem had started to tell him about Leland. It gave him a fleeting feeling of pride, hearing that the guitarist was looking forward to meeting him. “Oh, yeah?" he told Gem, the boy’s kiss still fresh on his lips. The other boy had such a wonderful smile, Rafa could get lost in it. Regarding the boy with loving eyes, he continued his words. “Well,” he grinned a bit, looking down and playing with his sleeves. “I’ve been talking you up to Diego quite a bit now. He’s probably under the impression that you’re some kind of angel, or something. Wouldn’t be far off, I suppose.” His grin widened at that, and he bit down on his bottom lip, trying to keep it down a bit. There was no need to go off, looking like an idiot. Though, he supposed it wouldn’t matter too much – Gem had probably seen all his weird facial expressions by now. “Anyways, he’s pretty excited to meet you, too.” He let out a breath of laughter at that – Diego’s words had actually been, ‘Sounds like a damn good kisser’. The other man had always had the most blunt, yet humorous takes on everything. Anyways, his uncle had gotten his point across just fine – he seemed to like Gem greatly, as his owls continually stated.
Upon regarding his sleeves, Rafa’s eyes had quickly caught his watch. It was then that he finally noticed the time – his heart sank to the bottoms of his feet, his eyes widening in surprise. “Oh, mierda,” he cursed under his breath. His eyes quickly brushed Gem again, his gaze longing – he’d rather enjoyed his conversation with the Ravenclaw, but it seemed as if it would have to be cut short. “I’m sorry, man – I’m going to be late for potions.” His words carried a hurried air, but his eyes carried a different tale – almost a reluctance to leave, mixed with a special regard, a look he only ever gave one person. Taking a moment to wrap his arms around the waist of the other boy, he quickly planting a quick kiss upon his lips. “S’pose I’ll see you after break, right?”

@Rafael D'Spacito“Need me to rough anyone up, then?” A momentary pause, and then a string of apologies.
"That'd be excellent, actually - me dad could use a good scuff up from an eleven year old, get his damn ego in check." He spoke quickly after Rafa backtracked, patting his stomach with the back of his hand. Sometimes, it felt like Rafa had to muzzle himself whenever he was around Gem, apologizing and backtracking... maybe he'd speak to him about that sometime, but not now.
"Well... that's great! Maybeh Leland and him will get along nicely, right? I reckon that'd be sweet, in some way." He sniffed, standing up when Rafa did. Taking a short glance at Rafa's watch, panic settled in nice in his stomach too. "Shite, Herbology!" He gasped, readying himself to skid out - not before he was caught by Rafa and given a peck on the lips. He couldn't help the smile, but the internal rush of getting late had fueled him enough to have him gather his things and get ready to take off.
"You'll see me after break, yeh! Try not ta die wivout me!" After all was said, Gem blew a kiss to his boyfriend (dramatically and theatrically) and dashed to his Herbology class as quickly as he possibly could.Gem has left the thread.
