Unlikely Friends Finished

Eris listened to Keagen's humming before responding. What was a home exactly. "I don't think a home is necessarily a building, I think it's a place that makes you happy and safe. Or maybe a person that makes you feel happy and safe," Eris replied, thinking of characters in her books who called their boyfriend or girlfriend their home. "Or maybe a home's just what you make of it." She shrugged, again listening to Keagen's broken melody. She wondered what it meant to him, and why he always hummed it. Not wanting to break the melody, she sat there for a while, eyes closed as she immersed herself in the soft melody. When Keagen asked what she was thinking, Eris's eyes snapped open, and she stayed silent fora moment, thinking of what to say.

"I'm thinking that I really like being your friend." she said simply, because it was true. She enjoyed being around the strange boy, and hoped he felt the same way about being around her. "I'm also thinking that I could go for some chocolate pudding at the feast, but I don't want to go up because I'm worried we won't hang out again after this." They were in different houses after all. "

What are you thinking about?"

"I hope that's true. It would be nice to have a home wherever you are." Kaegen enjoyed listening to this girl talk. She was interesting.
The slight blush made it's return, the smile remained on his face as he thought about how nice those few words were. And that chocolate pudding sounded pretty good. he thought about what to say for a minute or so, and then turned to look at the castle. "I'm glad to have you as a friend, and that chocolate pudding sounds good. After classes, we can meet up and practice spells together, if you want."
Kaegen wasn't sure what else to say, so he didn't say anything. He took his ball out of the bag, and lightly tossed it over to eris. They may as well do something. Something fun. It had been forever since he played catch with anyone, and now seemed a pretty good time. He could hear the music of the water, could smell the sweet smelling air. Kaegen's imagination flew with visions of the future. He was going to learn spells, potions, everything he could get his hands on! Some people said this school was the best in the world, and he was going to take advantage of it.

Eris smiled. It would be nice to have a home wherever you went. Her smile widened as keagen proclaimed they would stay friends and eat chocolate pudding. “I look forward to praticing spells with you,” Eris said honestly. She was practically beaming at this point, and when she chanced a look at keagen she saw him blushing. How particular. Why was he blushing? Deciding it was rude and unimportant to ask why and call him out on it.

Eris caught the ball and threw it back, grinning as she did so. She hadnt played catch in a long time, in fact the last time she played catch her father was still home. Normally thinking of her father made her sad, but she didn’t feel sad right now. She was happy and filled with visions of the future. Everything might work out for the best now that she had a friend at Hogwarts that had promised to hang out with her even though they were in different houses. Plus this was much different than playing catch with her father. This was more peaceful, and more magical. The next time keagen threw her the ball, Eris pulled out her wand and sent it back using a spell she had learned in charms. Wingardum Levisosa. Yep, definitely more magical.

Eri walked up behind them with a stack of books in her arms. "Hey Eris, Keagen. Sorry I'm late. Went to the library. Did I miss anything interesting?" She wondered not know about the boy's encounter with the squid. She sat down and began to read an advanced transfiguration book and put the other books by het side. "Did you see the squid?" She joked giggling cause she thought it didn't exist. She touched her locket remembering crazy stories her aunt told her about the supposed giant squid that romed hogwarts great lake. A giant squid in this lake she didn't believe it.

She smiled kindly at the two not knowing what she just missed. "Isn't the veiw so womderful. My aunt told me stories of the squid but I believe ghe squid isn't real. What about you two?"  She decided she shouldn't be shy around them since they were her friends. She smiled watching people skip rocks into the lake or others reading books and practicing magic. This was her place to be. It was so full of magic every where. She still couldn't believe she was picked to be here. Such an amazing experience indeed. She looked at then wondering what they had been doing.

"Yes, we had a one-legged race. Eris won, it was rather interesting." Kaegen kept smiling as he thought about it. "Oh, and we played catch. I think that covers everything." That was all he said, because that was all he was thinking about at the time. The squid was cool, but he saw things like that in the fens every once in a while, and he wouldn't write home about it.
"The squid came out of the water a second ago. It was rather upset." Kaegen wasn't sure why this girl didn't think the squid existed. He sure was talking an awful lot. He'd rather be the one asking the questions and listen to the long answer. His soft voice was getting a workout today. The girl would probably have questions. He may as well answer them. "The ball we played catch with was mine, I brought it from home. It's full of mosses from the fens. Makes it bouncy." That should settle it. Nothing else interesting happened. Kaegen wondered if eri had done anything interesting in the library. Maybe he should ask about it? But then again, he had already talked so much, he didn't really feel like asking anything else. He would answer if eri asked anything else, but otherwise there wasn't much point.

Eris groaned. She was happy to see Eri, of course, but she was starving and in serious need of some chocolate pudding. Sighing, Eris plastered a smile onto her face. Eating could wait, making friends came first. If anything, she could always go to bed hungry. It was something she quite used to doing after living on the streets for three months, though Eris had to admit the idea of not eating some of the fine food at the feast was very unappealing.

"You forgot to mention that during our one-legged race I fell and got splattered in mud." Eris pointed out, sticking her tongue out at Kaegen in a teasing way, "State the facts Kaegen." She laughed, then wondered if her joking was too mean and if Kaegen and Eri would think her weird. Shrugging it off, Eris nodded her head in agreement. The squid did seem quite mad when it came out of the water, although Eris had only seen part of it and couldn't pretend to understand the squids emotions the way Kaegen seemed to do. Eris did have to agree with Eri, the view was quite lovely, and sitting by the lake, watching the ripples with her two new friends Eris felt content. Although she would feel more content with some chocolate pudding to devour.

"You guys want to go to the libraru? There wasn't anyone else there except the librarian. There are some pretty intresting books there in my opinion." She smiled hoping they would want to come with her. "If not I'm sure there is somewhere more intresting." She said hoping they wouldn't think her strange for being a book worm.

She flung a rock and it fell almost halfway into the lake. She wanted to learn more but maybe she would do it later. Besides when would she see Eris again. Eris was in gryffindor and Kaegen and her were Ravenclaw.

She smiled imagining the two doing a one legged race and she imagined Eris covered in mud. "Wait the Squid is real?" She didn't know what else to say. She was baffled but shook it off and smiled. 

She admired her friends. They were bothe very different and that was why she liked them. She looked at the lake snd threw another rock into the lake. It was becoming late and they should go inside soon. 

She grinned. She had an idea to get something interesting going She decided to go ahead and say it. "Want to race to the libray? Lat one there has to buy the other two some candy"

Not good. His mother had always taught him to pinch pennies, and the school supplies had cost so much money already. He really didn't want to run on the hard floor, he imagined that it would hurt pretty bad, but he would rather try and fail, then have to pay for the candy then not race at all. He wanted to stick with these new friends of his. He'd just have to be fast. He was incredibly fast. As soon as he could crawl he was crawling faster then the miscellaneous giant toad. "go" Kaegen shot off, and then his problems began. He was a streak of lightning on the grass, hardly seeming to touch the ground. But the castle was new to him, new territory, new terrain. He entered the castle in the lead, took a wrong turn and tripped on some stairs. As he fell down the long, winding stairs he wondered what kind of an idiot would make these hazards. When a ramp was just as good. Or just have them climb up. Why couldn't they just have ropes...
He ended up on the floor in a heap. Should he move? Yeah, probably not. He'd move in a second. He was in pain, and wasn't looking forward to going back up those stairs. How could anyone go up those things quickly? Who put them around little kids???

Eris nodded her approval about the plan to run, bursting off after Kaegen. She unlike him had not spend her life outdoors, and she was also very short so she was far behind him when he reached the stone floors of the castle. Looking around to see wherever Eri was, Eris kept running. Where on earth was Kaegen? She was about to start sprinting when she saw him, huddled on the floor near the stairs. She skidded to a stop, wincing as the abrupt stop made her feet hurt badly.

Eris ended up stopping a few feet away from Kaegen. She waited for him to get up, but seeing that he wasn't moving, she took a cautious step forward and knelt down next to him, shooing away any students walking near the stairs at looking at the boy huddled near them. "Are you okay?" She asked, trying to gain a reaction from her friend. "Do you need the hospital wing?" She said more quietly, than realizing her friend might of been embarrassed from falling, she added, "It's perfectly okay to fall on terrain you're not used to. Look at me, I fell on the grass during our race a lot." Eris knew she would of been embarrassed if she fell in front of all the people, so she had taken a lucky guess from what she knew about her friend. He seemed like the kind of person who didn't go indoors much and he loved the outdoors, so the stone floors of the castle were most likely new to him.

People were gathering. Kaegen looked up and saw eris crouching next to him. He was still in pain, and wasn't in the mood to keep moving. His soft voice carried up to her from where he was huddled. "I think I'll take a break. I'll buy the candy." His head and arms crept inside of his robe, leaving only the point of his hat sticking out. It moved around, as kaegen searched the items he had strapped to his body that morning until he found the pain reliever his grandfather made. He drunk half and corked it. It wasn't amazing or anything but it was magic, which meant it got to work immediately. He strapped it back on to his chest and then his arms came back out of the sleeves. He stood up, but wherever his body felt pain before, it now felt like ants were all over the areas. Like they were asleep.
He smiled at eris a little. "maybe I'll walk to the library. No running for me. Why do they have stairs anyway?" That was enough talking out of him. Now it was time to get up these things. He dropped down to fingers and tiptoes and slowly crawled up the stairs. They got him once, it was so not going to happen again.
