Dale watched the boy roll up the paper and put it into his sleeves, he wondered how much else that boy could fit in those shelves. Kaegen asked him how to use his "muggle magic" the term brought a smile to Dales's face. It didn't last too long because he got thinking, he had thought before that using the incendio spell could work, but if the spell was cast too weak it simply just melt the iron oxide, the fire had to be really hot, usually, there is a bit of "starter" mix thrown into the thermite to help it get that hot, sadly the mix needed Potassium permanganate and glycerin, both things Dale could not get,

"Well... It depends on how good your magic is if you're really good at casting incendio then you would just need to cast it directly on the powder... But the spell would have to be very strong because if it's too weak you'll just end up melting this stuff."


Dale said as he pointed to the bag of rust.

"I'm gonna mix this stuff with a bit of aluminum and then right in this bag you have a very... " Dale thought for a second of what word to use, he looked up the ceiling. "Fiery reaction" Dale said still looking at the ceiling.

He had to be extremely good at casting incendio? The ravenclaw's lips pressed together to form a thin line, worried about the prospects of having to rely on a spell for something he had planned on using as a replacement for the spell. His magic was decidedly subpar, with bad control and worse magical oomph. Although he didn't really know it, Kaegen would never excel at magic, his vampiric blood was far too strong, and decidedly lacking in magical aptitude. Your arcane power might change a bit, but it was hardly something you could carefully develop and train.

Kaegen's wand promised large, flashy spells, but his mind failed to deliver. And if this muggle magic required real magic to make it work, then he might very well be in for a nasty surprise. Kaegen was painfully aware that he was far from the best at magic, it was part of the reason why he constantly found odd ways to get around that. He would develop odd contraptions and techniques and spell proof armor made of owls.

"Is there a muggle magic way to get this to light? I'm no- ...n't like to cast spells very much. They don't tend to mix with the muggle kind."

Keep weakness hidden, and find an alternative. That was always the way, wasn't it?

Dale thought for a moment, the boy had just asked him if there was a "muggle magic" way to light it up, the reason he didn't wanna cast spells is because "they don't tend to mix well"... That made no sense to him, it would work fine because... well it wasn't magic! It was science, no magic, he was sure the boy had his own reasons for not wanting to use magic, it would seem that, just like Dale, the boy was also a pretty bad liar. Dale smiled, maybe Kaegen wasn't as alien as Dale once thought he was.

"Well... if you can get me some Potassium permanganate and glycerin... I would just have to mix that in, and from there all you would have to do is light it on fire, using muggle means... of course."

For some reason, Dale douted the boy could actually manage to get that stuff, it was hard enough to get in the muggle world, he imagined it would be borderline impossible to get it into Hogwartsbut who knows is Kaegen could get it, the setting off the thermite reaction would be much easier for Dale and kaegen, there was no harm in being hopeful.. right?

"Where do I find that."

Shouldn't be too hard, right? If it was out there, he was going to find it, this was something far too good to pass up, and he had already started working on possible ways to weaponize the fire. He would have to figure out how bright it burned later, when they had enough to experiment with. But for now, he would have to focus on getting those weird, long words that sounded like spells almost.

"Write them down, and point me in the right direction, I can get it, whatever it is."

Kaegen shifted uncomfortably, face staying relatively blank as he tried to figure out how much he had just given away. Did this other boy know what he was worried about, did Dale figure out kaegen's weakness, his lack of decent magical power? They were allies, true, but for how long? How long would they remain allies before something happened that would sway Dale to the other side, and sell out everything he ever learned about the ravenclaw.

Kaegen took a very quiet breath as he calmed himself. No, he was in control. He was going to use the other boy, not the other way around. He was going to be honorable and uphold his own code, and when the time came to part ways, he would be walking away on top.

Dale thought for a moment... where could someone buy them, well there were stores that sold things like, for hobbyists, but he doubted that there was a store like that around here. So to make the glycerin he would need to render some kind of fat, that could be found in any kind of cooking store, and the lye could be found in a store that prioritizes cleaning supplies.

"Well, you won't find that stuff in any stores around here, ill have to make it my self, ill need some animal fat and lye.. you can find lye in a store that sells cleaning products..."

The harder part was the potassium permanganate, it was found in most iron filters.. but again he doubted stores around here just did not sell that. Well, the thermite should still be easy to light even with just the glycerin, and now that he thought about it even if he did get his hands on the iron filter cleaning solution.. there was no way to make it into a solid, at least not with the very basic supplies he had access to.

"As for the other thing.. we are gonna have to do without it, I doubt we can find it around here. Besides even just with glycerin, the thermite should be much easier and faster to light! Also, it should keep the iron from melting down!

The realization hit Dla just in time, there was no way, at least with the methods he had, that he could even light the thermite without any sort of additives. Maybe this Kae guy knew that his magic would be too powerful and it would just melt the iron!
