CICTF Anaconda vs. Caiman

Logan Baird, Caiman Jungle banner
Logan's eyes scanned the forest around her as she listened to the introductions be done, trying to decide if she may regret this later. Maybe she would have fun with this though, no matter how daunting the looming forest seemed.

She scuffed her feet against the ground as she thought about what to do. Logan could not remember the last time she had played Capture the Flag, if she ever had. It could not be too hard though, as long as she stuck close to someone and did not get lost.

Logan's head snapped up at the start of the game, taking off after Manu. The other girl seemed to know what she was doing, so maybe the Hufflepuff's chances of getting lost were smaller if she stayed close. It seemed a small group of them may have had that idea as they took off into the jungle.

The Jungle was completely new territory for the dark-haired girl and she was not sure what to think about it yet. Brush scraped against her skin as she made her way through the trees and over rocks, trying to keep up to her best ability while remembering that they were playing a game. This definitely was not just a normal stroll through the woods as Logan felt a branch from something catch in her hair.

As the game started, Lily and the rest of her team moved over to Zone 2. Lily was amazed as they walked in. It was absolutely beautiful. She had been planning on being battered about by wind and whatever else the host could think of. But from the sounds of it, Verona was the one getting pushed around and battered. The team glanced around for the flag from the other team but there was no sign of it yet. Lily and this other guy, Archer Duncan continued to move forward as they explored zone 2. Lily had her wand out ready to cast spells, if and when she needed to. In her mind, this was a game. She was a highly competitive woman, when she needed to fight she would, and she'd take as many people down with her as she humanly could. She was not used to being a team player, so she had to of course coordinate with her team (and not a lot of people she knew) so she had to push away her personality of keeping to herself for this game. After all, she did need to get out more. She couldn't be a hermit, like she'd like to be.

--- ---Upon further thought, the (perhaps cowardly) fifth year didn't think whole thing didn't seemed too bad. With the rest of the team, she ventured into the green expanse, continuing until the ground dropped away before them and the sound of thundering water took over. It was jaw droppingly beautiful. She wished that she had some form of camera, or photo taking device, and for a moment forgot that this was supposed to be a competition. She was suddenly reminded of this fact by the sight of Lily with her wand held menacingly at the ready, and started to scan the landscape for a flag. There was nothing of the sort, or at least she couldn't see it. She could, however, see a thick layer of fog, reminiscent of the winter fog that sometimes hovered a meter or so above the ice in a skating rink. Under the fog was a gushing river, tinged white from the rapids.
---She glanced downwards, trying to see that she didn't slip. The path underfoot was slippery and rocky, making each step work her ankles. It would be highly embarrassing if she tripped now.
---The team continued forwards, team anaconda as the event hosts had named them. Briefly Guinevere wondered if they would encounter such creatures, and if there were any students with the ability to talk to snakes in her group, as that would be useful. There were no opponents to be seen, at least for now. They surely would encounter them soon, as there was only so much arena that they could be in. The river was now slowly thinning away, leaving only the forest before them.

Mochi continued to move around the jungle after Tone, staying out of the way of others, but still maintaining her closeness with him. He'd put her on top of a rock but the feline had followed him regardless. The first round had Tone checking out his surroundings, always on alert to see if any dangers would pop out at him. But he didn't see any dangerous monsters or vines around him, at least not right now. He made his way through the jungle to eventually reach Zone 2 with Ebony, Haven, Lindsey, Guinevere, Archer and Lily. Tone kept watch over them as he moved, choosing to remain near the middle section. This way he could help anyone who looked like they needed help and the distance would be about the same. Hopefully, things would continue in such a manner and one of them could find the flag's location. At least none of them had gotten attacked by nature or their opponents. But who knew what the next round would bring them? Dangers lurked around every corner, especially in a jungle like this in Castelobruxo and from what had happened earlier. It was only when a person got complacent, that was when bad things started to happen around or to them. Hopefully, things would continue to go in the team's favor.

After those rounds of introductions, the game itself finally began. Part of her team headed off to the next zone. Perfect. That was always helpful! Kaitlyn was, however, planning something else. She was going to help out. Hopefully. Maybe. By bantering to help her teammates. But, ah, it wasn’t going to be as easy as she had hoped it to be. Although, to be quite frank, when was anything ever specifically easy when it came to magic?

Just as Kait was going to start bantering … she hadn’t noticed the upcoming obstacle. Er, moving obstacle, in this case … in the form of monkeys! And plenty of them, running around and causing havoc. Chaos! The little critters surrounded her. That was definitely not ideal. And, when she glanced at her remaining teammates in Zone 4, she wasn’t the only one, unfortunately. Multiple of them were getting attacked by those monkeys.

And, to make matters worse … if there was even a way to make this situation even worse … the blasted monkeys took her wand. ‘Oh my! Such troublesome tricksters!’ She thought, frowning, as the monkey that stole her wand threw it far away from her. After swearing under her breath, the young Slytherin ventured toward the area her wand was thrown … at least the approximate area … and started to search for her wand. She needed to find it to be of any use to her team! The last thing she wanted was to be useless.

CICTF Anaconda vs. Caiman
Rarely did things begin on a positive note; at least, to the dark haired girl’s often pessimistic perspective, nothing was up until clear evidence of its positive outlook was presented. It was difficult to maintain such a view of cynicism and despair when her teammates seemed to emanate enthusiasm, disseminating nothing but encouragingly hopeful words. The two older girls (Haven and Lindsey) seemed especially uplifting, adopting cheery attitudes that brought a rare sense of serenity to the scrambled pit of simultaneous nothingness and everything-ness that was Ebony’s headspace (Calming Presence).

Upon the game beginning, a large majority of their team proceeded deeper into the rainforest until they reached a section of the ground that merged with the waterfall, painting a picture worthy of capturing on one of the canvases sitting in her satchel within the maloca in which she was staying. Perhaps she would return after the game was over — when they were not actively being pursued by an opponent team and by sinisterly lurking jungle creatures — to imprint the landscape permanently in her collection of animate paintings. The cascading rush of the water made for perfect subject material. For now, though, she cast all artistic thought from her mind, grasping her wand tight, similar to the way Lily was. It was competition time, and it would not do much good to dwell in daydreams.

As Archer moved with almost all of the rest of his teammates to zone two, he was admittedly, slightly confused and disadvantaged. While he moved with his teammates with fluidity, being a duellist and commonly exposed to nature through his various expeditions in the wild of the Scottish highlands, being both unacquainted with almost every one of his teammates and being the youngest meant he was a little lost on what they were planning in terms of strategy.

He greeted Lindsey politely enough, and while social anxiety no longer plagued him, he was just trying to convince himself that he was playing cool and detached.

Maybe this was the reality check everyone was telling him he needed.

Leaving one of their members in the first zone, Archer and the rest of the upperclassmen entered zone two. They seemed to be in a rather safe zone, with no monkeys or down pouring rain or any other headaches to deal with. Letting out a breath of relief as his opponents were probably suffering from the attacks of wild animals, Archer turned to his team.

What now? He asked in the form of raising a brow. The terrain was laid out in front of them, full of questions and challenges.

Kanthil's gaze shifted from Kanae girl to someone else. His appearance caught her attention, making her wonder if he was also like her, a dark magic enthusiast. Perhaps he could share some tips or some knowledge on dark magic since she knew every country has their own distinctive dark magic.

She didn't hold herself to approach him. Before him, Kanthil folded her hands and tilted her head a bit to the right. "You looked interesting," she said bluntly, without any preamble. "You don't seem like someone who's afraid of dark magic. And I hope you aren't. Perhaps we can talk about it later after this game," she remarked. A faint smile tugged at the corner of her lips; it was a mix of a challenge and an interest. I don't have any idea how to banter :v @Ari Gwild

Then she looked at the others. Some of them were moving forward, leaving her. Did I miss something? she wondered. When she was about to scratch her head, she felt something pull her hair. She gasped, surprised, and reflectively pushed the thing. It was an ugly monkey. Very ugly. "Ew! Go away!" she exclaimed.

Then some of them went to her and could find where she had saved her wand. She immediately grabbed her wand before it moved farther from her. She fought with the monkey with her thin muscles. "You stinky ugly monkey! Let it go now!" She put another exclamation. The fight happened for some minutes until the annoying primate lost interest in the wand.

"Good." She kept her wand back. She looked around again to think what she should do now. She should know better to keep her focus in the game like this.

The introductions went fine to say the least. It was nice to finally put a name to the faces she'll be with for the next few minutes? hours? No telling.

Kanae moved with the more senior members of the Caimans into zone 3 as she heard the distant screams of her other teammates behind her. Something about ugly monkeys or whatever. Not that she was eager or curious to wonder what happened though. A little part of her was thankful she joined the group that went forward. Hope their other teammates didnt have much trouble.

She rather stayed to herself as one of the more familiar older girls—Manu—led the way. Another senior had lovely short red hair named Phyllis while the other was a wise-looking and long haired girl whom Kanae didn't know the name of.

As opposed to the screams from zone 4, zone 3 was rather peaceful (for now). Despite the pressures, she was doing more sight seeing than she would've expected herself to. The jungle. arena was strangely beautiful in it's own scary, unpredictable ways.

It was a great change from the usual environment at Mahoutokoro. Not that she hated her school but her daily life could definitely use some pizzaz other than some encounters here and there. To be fair, she spent most of her time on her studies, music, and Quidditch and not much on anything else. Things like this lightened things up. Kanae didn't appreciate the little bugs though.

Mahlioz definitely hadn't been expecting a nice, peaceful game (even the muggle version of Capture the Flag was chaos incarnate) but they also hadn't been expecting this much all at once immediately. "This much" was, in fact, a horde of monkeys. Mahlioz had never seen monkeys outside of zoos before, and while she would have loved to observe them (maybe even draw them), the creatures seemed to have other plans.

Four of their teammates had left in time, venturing into the next zone of the map. Mahlioz had decided to stay and keep an eye out for the flag, but the monkeys made quick work of distracting her by stealing her wand. Listen, she could get an expelliarmus, but having a small creature quite literally yoink her beloved wand out of her hand was doing quite a bit of damage to her pride. "Wha- you jerk??"

The good and bad news was that they weren't alone in losing their wand this way - two of the three others in their zone were now also trying to go after the monkeys. And the one who hadn't yet was valiantly fighting for it (and insulting it, which Mahlioz just had to laugh at). "Maybe I'll try that next time, Vicious Mockery." They just hoped there wouldn't be a next time. And also that their dumb D&D reference wouldn't confuse anyone - they really had to stop making D&D references around purebloods and wizardborns, huh.

Thankfully, the monkey holding her wand did eventually drop it, but up in a tree. That was fine. Mahlioz and trees were good friends. This one was rather slippery from the humidity, but they did manage to make it up, grab their wand, and scale back down without thinking about how high up they were. This was good. She had her wand back. She turned to check on her fellow teammates stuck with her in zone 4. "You guys good? Got your wands back?"
