Closed Sticks With Hay PV Illowy

Illowy brushed the dust off herself, mentally kicking herself for not keeping her temper more in check. She could see it in the kid's face the effect of her words and tone despite her best efforts. Children are sensitive, she had to remind herself, even the ones who try to act like they don't care.

At least the younger seemed unharms by their mini freefall, "You are a witch." she reminded, "You are meant for whatever you decide." the older snake brushed a bit of her hair out of her face as she tried to further school her tone back to neutrality, "Flying takes practice, more for some then for others. I didn't figure it out until I was nearly in Fifth Year. You've only been doing this for a few weeks. No one expects you to be a perfect flyer now."

Her eyes peeled away from the girl to look for her broom, summoning it back to her hand with a silent, wandless Accio, "In one spare lesson and you already marginally improved your confidence simply moving about and completing turns. Once you figured it out, I didn't even have to do anything, I was just sitting there. The rest was entirely you. Correcting yourself when you went too fast, that was all you." she listed, which was the truth.

"The entire time we were doing this, the only time you faltered was when you got into your own head by doubting yourself or overthinking. Which is normal, we all do it when we're learning. You can't expect yourself to do everything perfectly in the beginning; and if you give up just because you aren't naturally perfect at it on the first, then there's no point or fun in learning anything in the first place."

Her thoughts turned to her own experiences with magic and school, the mountain of failures she'd gone through, but in the end, it was how she'd improved, "We have our talents. I was always great at transfiguration, been a year ahead of everyone since Second year. It still took me three years to figure out how to do the Animagus spell correctly. I had a lot of skill with casting, but I spent an ungodly amount of hours over the years to learn how to do it without saying a spell or without a wand. I didn't have a single thread of skill for flying, but I'm confident now after years of practice. It all comes down to how much work you're willing to put in to prove to yourself that you are capable of doing whatever you set your mind to." she explained.

The older girl seemed alright, so Avis pulled a hand through her slightly messed-up hair. It wasn't terribly messy, barely out of place, but Avis could not stand being dirty. It just felt wrong somehow, like she was giving off the wrong image. Thankfully, her hair wasn't bad, and she managed to quickly smooth it down.

Avis' eyes roamed to the broom but flew back with it to the girl's hand as she mouthed a small woah. The broom had just flown over to the girl. Was that a spell? What about the wand? That was possible? Avis' mind whirled. There were so many crazy things that could be down if magic was possible without a wand. Without a wand! The girl's continued conversation confirmed Avis' theory, and really, that was insane. She didn't realize that was possible.

Avis' mind was flying in all sorts of directions now, and she admitted to herself she was definitely not going to be able to continue focusing on flying now. So she smiled up at Illowy."I think I've got the gist. I suppose I've just got to practice." Practice, and not overthinking it, one of Avis' many flaws. "Thanks for teaching me." She nodded in reply to the girl's final comment. "Your will is only limited by the limitations you set upon it." She walked over and collected her broom-a much more boring method of gathering than Illowy's-and headed back towards the castle, mind still spinning. Wandless magic!
