Day at the Beach
"My family is pretty competitive too," Clarke said, "But I don't have any siblings so usually it's just my parents bickering about who's better but since they separated that hasn't been as much of a problem. They cant' stand being around each other so I spend a lot of my time on my own," He admitted. "Not that I mind," he said quickly when he realized how depressing that sounded, "but I'm ready for school to start, I guess."
The summer had been long and a little dull for him. He had spent most of it flying when he could get away with it and going for walks around town. Mostly he did it to get out of the house just to get away from his mothers sometimes manic personality. He truly did love her and he had spent a lot of time with her he did enjoy but it just got to be too much for him. He really was excited just for a change of setting.
As far as Hobbies went though Clarke didn't know how to answer in a way that would be appropriate for muggles. He couldn't just say flying, he'd sound crazy if he did that. But he also wasn't much of a reader. In fact they had run into him as he was partaking in his favorite hobby. Enjoying the beach.
Except then the boy who introduced himself as Lu mentioned something about potions and he quirked an eyebrow, "yeah, did you say potions?" he asked just to clarify.

Day at the Beach
Lucien nodded laughing a bit at the thought of his sister. "She hit me in the face with a sword and knocked me unconscious. She terrorizes children- and our half-brother. He smiled slightly when Beck said he loved the Olympics. "That makes one of us, I have never seen it so I never have a clue about anything when my Father talks to me about it." He said before Clarke spoke up. "Oh...that's really...sad. Maybe school will help, you can make a lot of friends." He said smiling. Lucien knew how it was for parents not to be together...well in a different way. His mom had died when he was young. He still wasn't sure about how he felt about his step-mom. Sure she was nice, but she was too nice and caring. Lucien wasn't used to it.
Lucien didn't realize he had said the word potions until Beck and Clarke mentioned it. He froze slightly but his expression didn't change much. "I'm just seeing if you're both paying attention that's all. Such things can't be cured don't you know?" He lied with an absolutely serious face. If his Aunt found out he slipped up he would be dead within seconds. He decided never to tell his family about the slip up.

Clarke raised an eyebrow. He was sure the boy had said potions. It almost didn't cross his mind to point it out because talking about Potions was normal to him. It took him a few seconds to realize it wasn't normal for muggles though.
"What school do you go to?" he asked slowly. Clarke wanted it to seem like he was changing the subject when in fact he was trying to interrogate this boy. Because if he knew about potions then well... he may be a Hogwarts student. But of course it also didn't mean much either because even though muggles didn't have potions they at least had the word for it. So there was always the chance he was a muggle that maybe a little more... eccentric than his peers. Not that he expected this boy to come out and outright say that he went to Hogwarts but Clarke wasn't totally sure he was a great liar and expected to be able to see through an answer. At least a little. Maybe interrogate him more about the muggle world until he cracked. Now maybe that was a little rude but Clarke would be kind about it. Or well, at least try to be.

Lucien knew what Clarke was trying to do, only because Lu had done it himself so many times. "Well, I once went to a rich kid private school, then I was home schooled, and now I'm being shipped off to boarding school in France." He said with a smile. It wasn't like he was lying, other than the France part, Hogwarts was practically a boarding school. "What school do you go to?" Lucien said looking for any indication of lies. He had been taught how to tell lies from truths all of his life, so surely it couldn't be that hard.
If any of these kids were wizard, he didn't know how they didn't recognize his last name. After all, they were well known in the Daily Prophet, a piece of garbage that usually tried to cause issues with the family, but still. Lu gave a small smile as he heard a familiar scream and then giggles. He turned his head over so slightly to see what had caused his sister to scream. He saw their youngest brother Maven, standing above her. He must have pushed her in the sand. "Oh great, that means the rest of the family arrived." He muttered under his breath as his step-mom waved at him. He just turned his head back to the group and ignored her.

Day at the Beach
"Does the boarding school have a name?" Clarke asked and side stepped his question entirely. His mom was always talking about how muggles could be dangerous if he let slip parts about him. But if these boys were magical as well then those were people he could actually be friends with. He was in desperate need of someone to hang out with around here and by the beach. Sitting alone was relaxing and hanging out with the children his parents wanted him to wasn't always bad, but he wanted to make his own friends that he could connect with on a different level. Not need his parents to set up playdates for him anymore.
Maybe he was coming on a little too aggressive but he wasn't really concerned about that, "France is a long way to go for school," he said, "do they teach potions at this...french boarding school?" He asked suspiciously. Clarke wished there was an easier way to go about asking this, that there was a safe way for him to drop more hints that he wasn't a muggle but if he was wrong about his hunch... his mother was right some muggles were very dangerous. he tried to wrack his brain for things he knew about muggles that other magical people would not know, to see if he could quiz him on that too.

Lucien eyed the other boy suspiciously. He avoided the question, it was a curious matter to Lucien. "Of course it has a name, don't all schools? He said smiling a bit. It's Slaughterhouse, a bit far but it is the Top of the Line educations as my father says." Lucien stated ripping the name right out of an upcoming muggle movie, it wasn't going to be a well known one by any chance, unless this group was fond of horror movies they most likely wouldn't have heard of it. Even though, in the Film, the school was in England.
"And of course they don't teach potions, they teach chemistry, it's the branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed. Now if you were to mix chemistry in with children's stories, then yes, if it was in a fantasy world, it could be considered potions." He stated prepared to go into a giant lecture about chemistry. It was a muggle science, but it was so interesting. Lucien had his own chemistry lab at home to experiment with. He found it slightly similar to potion making. "I'll ask again, you must not of heard me. What school do you go to?" He stated a bit louder than before making sure the boy heard. Lucien knew he had heard the first time, but maybe the others didn't notice.

Clarke made a thoughtful face, "Slaughterhouse is an odd name for a school and a french school at that." he was starting to believe this boy less and less. He did seem to know about chemistry. Whatever that was. But it did sound kind of like potions too. Clarke shook it off though and looked around the beach. Maybe the best thing to do was to be honest here. Maybe.
"I think you're lying," He said quietly. Hoping his voice didn't come across as aggressive or accusatory. He wanted to say it matter-of-factly as to not make the other boy feel cornered or challenged. Clarke wasn't one to stat anything especially if he was a wizard and thought he'd be in danger by Clarke accusing him of something. Yes, he may be accusing him of something but it wasn't necessarily something bad and Clarke was only doing it because he was guilty of the same thing.
But how did you bring it up in a way that was subtle? Because it didn't seem like this boy was backing down and Clarke couldn't just come out and say that he was a wizard because what if it got him into trouble? The safest thing for him was to get the boy to admit to it but Lu seemed to be a lot smarter than him.

Lucien simply smiled at the other boy. Of course he was lying. "Of course I am, what kind of person names a school 'Slaughterhouse'. But, why would you straight up tell someone where you attend school?" He stated slightly laughing. He had rehearsed these lines so many times in case he was to ever slip up. most people didn't pay attention to the name Slaughterhouse, so this was new. "If you can give me 3 good reasons why I should tell you my school then I might tell you where I attend. It is a boarding school." Lucien knew when he had been defeated, and plan A was definitely out of the water.
Lucien wasn't dumb by any means, he could play a game of secrets for a long time, it came naturally to him. Though he was almost always honest, aside from when he was talking to muggles or who he thought was a muggle, he was skilled at manipulation and half-truths. "Or, you can ask me three questions, aside from my school, and I'll answer them honestly. So, 3 reasons or questions, or dropping it. Feel free to pick." He said with a kind smile. He was eager to see what the other would choose.

"Okay," Clarke said, "I should only need to ask one question to get all the answers I need," he said. This was about to get really risky but he was pretty sure that a Muggle wouldn't be able to track anything he said back to anything important. If worse comes to worse he could just feign being crazy or cover it up with even bigger lies. It was still nerve-wracking what he was about to do, it was so against the rules but he was so sick of talking in circles. And the way he was talking about potions... it really didn't feel like any sort of slip up.
"When I saw the word 'Quidditch' do you know what I'm talking about?" he asked. Just a few minutes earlier he had been straining telling the other boy, Beck, trying to come up with some other sport his dad played. But Quidditch obviously was the actual sport his father played. He just wanted to talk about it with someone. Maybe not... his dad exactly. But someone who at least could recognize that word. As far as he knew, unlike potions this wasn't a word that existed for muggles as well. So it could effectively give him all the answers he needed.

Lucien nodded understanding the word as if it was common to everyone. "Yes. I guess that gives you your answers. What family house are you from? I'm from the House Haven-Escanora. Ah, you probably don't call them houses, never mind nver mind." He asked curiously before rambling and mentally scolding himself. "Sluit uw mond." He muttered to himself quietly. It had been a bad habit of his to talk to himself in different languages, and apparently it had never gone away.
If there was one thing he struggled with it was certainly keeping his mouth shut about things he thought of as common. He could work in some lie of sorts if the others didn't know the word and got curious, Lucien wasn't overly fond of lying but would do it when necessary. He mentally wished that the wizarding community had some language of their own, it could make things so much simpler, but constructing a language was something the ministry most likely didn't want to put time into, and then there would be the problem of muggle-borns not understanding it until attending Hogwarts, it would take so long to teach them. The black haired boy suddenly realized why it hadn't been done.
