Camp 2024 Summer Duels, Match 5

Just... a bit more...
Hadashi continued twisting and struggling until he felt his right wrist start to slip through. With a mighty twist and a pull, it came right out at last!
He quickly pulled the remaining cords off his hands, and was finally freed.

Hadashi looked up just in time to see the boy named Cyrus' wand fizzle out a spell, and then... he started....talking to it. Asking it if it could 'pretty please' work.
Hadashi was 96% sure that talking to your wand was not going to help anything, and 63% sure that talking to your wand was a sign of mild madness.

Miroshu-san was hit with a confringo spell. Hadashi knew that one of course, and knew that it probably hurt. But, He seemed alright. And even told Hadashi to shake it off. Which was strange, considering that Hadashi had barely been hit with anything at all.

Hadashi sent a grin back at him.

"No problem. Judging by what I have seen so far, this should not be difficult to come back from."
Actions: Ignoring a possible shibari interest, wondering how Jake can still be so adorable despite being a 6th year, and doing as strategized.

With everyone finally free of their various restraints, the next time wands came down was chaos. A large part of that chaos was owed to Cyrus' double cast of the cracker jinx, which send brightly coloured crackers all over the platform, the stinging sparks managing to hit the opposing team a couple times and the loud sounds sending a wincing Julian's hands directly over his ears where they remained until he was sure there would be no more explosions coming their way. How Cyrus managed to avoid being by his own spell, Julian wasn't sure. In fact, he managed to come unscathed from the dual jet's coming from Milosh's wand, despite one of them coming within a inch of his leg.

Rhett was not so lucky. Not only did his attempt at a conjunctivitis curse go wild off its target, and end up veering closer to his own teammate, he did get hit square in the chest by Milosh's Petrificus Totalus, and Julian was to call a short halt to the duel, so he could drag the boy away from the line of fire.

But Rhett had not been the only one whose casting had been ineffective. Hadashi found himself struggling to conjure up a jet of water from his wand, with the spell fizzling out at the tip. [/color]

Rett was a godsend. Really. Cyrus laughed gently, warmly, as he listened to the other boy's offer of a moment of privacy for him and his wand. It was a joke, yes, but one that Cyrus fully appreciated.

Luckily, Cyrus did not mind the audience. He hoped his wand felt the same.

He put a bit more belief into his Cracker Jinx. He thought of the Fourth of July, of twinkling stars, of spotlights at theatres, as he incanted, 'Nec Divinos Crepitus!' almost cheerfully.

It certainly worked. The resounding explosions were more than he could have hoped for. It could have been a party if not for the fact that this were a four-person duel.

It would seem that he and Everett kept tossing around bad luck like a hot potato. The other boy shot a wildly-aimed spell at Cyrus, who raised an eyebrow in confusion before stepping aside. He didn't blame Everett at all, but he did feel the need to ask, 'Everything okay?'

Maybe Cyrus had a spidey-sense for Petrificus Totalus. He moved at just the right time to see the spell whizz by his leg, and he gasped audibly only to see Rett get hit by the most horrible spell in the universe. 'Oh, fiddlesticks, Rett, don't worry about it! We'll fix this!'

The body-bind curse was truly foul. He didn't understand the purpose of trying to make someone a statue. Just don't deal with people, he thought, if you didn't want them to move. The last time Milosh had cast that on him, he had felt like bugs were swarming his arms and legs, and he had finally realised the extent of his natural hyperactivity. The icky feeling wasn't one he would wish on even his worst enemy, not that he really had enemies... he didn't think.

Nonetheless, Rett was still dealing with the effects of a spell that should be a crime. Cyrus hoped it wouldn't last too long – he knew duellists weren't usually the strongest, but maybe Rett would pull through. And if not, then maybe the spell would wear off? The possibilities, he supposed, were endless.

Once again his hope and dreams were crushed. The duel took an upturn for the worse as he got blasted not once but twice by an insanely strong Nec Divinos Crepitus. It seemed the second hit took more out of him, but perhaps he was still recovering from the first blast. At this point, the boy's shoulders had tensed together as he recoiled from the pain that hit him square in the chest. He'd dry-heave as the air had got knocked out of him, shaking his head to gather his witts. He was feeling less than chipper at this point. It seemed Hadashi got hit with a blow as well, perhaps not as bad as he was but both of them were in shaky situations whilst their opponents looked nearly good as new. As he spared a glance over, he saw Rhett bound. Thank the heavens his spell landed. One wand against them was better than two, especially given their current situation.

"Holy hell we got our work cut out for us. Hold on a bit longer for me, yeah?"

Milosh grunted to his teammate. He wasn't a quitter. His ego would be bruised at this defeat if it were to fall that way, but he wasn't giving up yet. He still had some juice left in him somewhere, he just had to gather it and hope luck was on his side for the rest of the duel.

"Oculitumescere!" His wand had made the appropriate motion, but Merlin- did he hate that incantation. And it seemed like his wand noticed, rocketing off the spell to the side of him directly at his own teammate. "Ah!" He could barely shout towards Cyrus before his whole body locked up, preventing him from casting or being casted at.

He could at the very least respond to Cyrus with a very blase, "You can just say fuck Cyrus. The situation certainly calls for it. Otherwise, I'm just peachy." Still, there was an unease that rooted itself in his chest as he helplessly watched from the sidelines. Even just for a moment, he didn't want to leave Cyrus out there on his own. They were winning, but that could change at a moment's notice and Rett couldn't do anything about it.

Rett kept his exterior icy and cool, his expression like he couldn't care less. But inside, he hated every second of this.

Hadashi took a hit. It wasn't pleasant, but it was nothing compared to what was SO much worse.
He had failed a cast. Hadashi Hitoshi, the highest tier perfectionist in Mahoutokoro, had failed a cast.

Hadashi was absolutely mortified. Part of him wanted to turn and run so no one would be able to look at the shameful display that was his failed spell. But he knew he couldn't. Not while the duel was still going. If Miroshu-san wasn't going to give up the duel, neither was he.

"That, I can do."

As Rett tried to get back into the fight (looking none too happy as he hit the ground), Cyrus was left alone against two opponents. Though they were still recovering from the Cracker Jinx, he had his work cut out for him. Luckily for him, the cracker jinx had them stunned. Stunned enough that when Milosh attempted to cast, nothing would happen at all. Hadashi on the other hand still seemed frazzled by his failure to cast before, and when he attempted to send a knockback jinx at Cyrus it just narrowly missed its target, sailing harmlessly into the distance. Cyrus would not miss his opportunity.

A wind jinx was shot straight towards Milosh, who had been taking quite the beating thus far. Though he would attempt to dodge the spell he was not fast enough, and the gust of wind would blow him back. He would remain on his feet, just barely, but Cyrus keeping the pressure up on him was going to get him eventually. Milosh and Hadashi needed to regroup and fast if they wanted to turn the tides...

Especially because just then, Everett would break free from his paralysis and join the fight! This was a two-on-two fight again.

Cyrus had not expected to be nearly alone against two opponents, but at least he had Everett's supportive nature to accompany him, even if his duelling partner was currently bound. After hearing Everett's admission that it was okay for Cyrus to swear, the boy nodded, but he shrugged. 'Everyone swears,' he noted. 'I'd rather do something more fun.'

He could do better than 'fiddlesticks', though.

He did his best to size up his opponents once again, taking extra care to note that although they both seemed worse for wear, there was just one of him while there were two of them. And Cyrus felt he was notoriously not so good at dodging. He had other strengths, like being joyful and dramatic. He gulped but tried to swallow his self-admonitions. He just had to believe in himself, right?

Well, some of it was good for him, anyway. He didn't think Milosh had been aiming at him, but the other boy's spell fizzled out, anyway. But a Reparifors wouldn't have done any harm, he didn't think.

He definitely had to respect Hadashi's Flipendo. It was a classic spell used by all sorts of duellists. And it caused damage, like, a lot of damage. Cyrus's eyes widened minutely as he attempted to side-step it, and this time, he was glad for his lanky stature, as the spell just barely whooshed past of him. He let out a small gasp before uttering, 'Ventus.'

This wand was really was nice to him. It complied well with the spell. Maybe it just didn't like Confringo? Cyrus didn't blame it. He watched as the spell hit Milosh squarely, and then he glanced over at Everett, who was standing up. 'Yay!' he exclaimed. 'You're free!'

The supportive and encouraging words were a pitiful attempt against wands as it seemed to fare. His own wand refused to produce a spell that would've been quite the blessing to feel hit him instead of a nasty Ventus that nearly bowled him over. His arms raised above his head as the gust blasted him squarely in the chest, sending him skidding backwards. A few sharp inhales as the wind had gotten knocked out of him were taken. Oh, the irony. He was in rough shape; his body was quite shaken up from back-to-back hard hits. At least Hadashi was not taking the brunt of spells thus far. He always felt bad if his partner got knocked out before him, knowing he could've helped prevent it, if only his wand would work. Giving a meaningful look down at it, as if having an internal conversation with it, Milosh's gaze whipped back upwards, a small mutter escaping his lips that was undisguisable. A curt nod was sent to Hadashi as his lips formed a tight line. Not yet, they weren't out of it.
