“The way I understand it, most people will be happy with adults versus kids, or in those three teams like Steven explained.”, Charlotte guessed, “The children will be with those they want to be with.”

With that, Holly seemed annoyed because, in the first variant, she had to play with Alfred on the same team, Al just shrugged and didn’t try to argue much. Liam suggested, “We can still change teams after the first round.”, With that, she accepted the conditions and shrugged. At least she could be on the team with Abbey.

Nevertheless, there was still a little back and forth, but it was not an argument but a discussion. It was so calm that it was almost scary. That this family could do something like this was not seen every day. Simply picking a teammate randomly would only end up in a fight again, and the Adam family knew that, so they didn't go for it. After about two minutes, it was over, and the family was as quiet as a mouse.

The family seemed to be in tacit agreement, that adults versus children were marked as OK for the first round. Thank God, they finally agreed on something.

“All right, as already said, adults versus kids for the first round, then we'll see after that.”, Charlotte spoke again, “A problem for our future self as you may say.”

“Can we see what the flags look like, so we know what to look for?” asked Liam, “Not that we can get a flag from anywhere else.” With a look at Alfred, who probably had a lot to say, because Alfred started to defend himself, “Hey, how was I supposed to know it wasn't my socks?”, “They had my name on it.”, Said Holly, “big and prominent, in neon green.” With that, he shut his mouth for good.

Holly quietly whispered to Abbey, "You had to see him when he accidentally wore one of my dresses.", she giggled, "Wrong Size, pink and way too girlish for his taste!", and added, "When he finally noticed in the afternoon he freaked and was redder then as a tomato."

Steven looked at Jane. He was a bit upset that his idea wasn’t the one that they ended up going for, but it wasn’t such a big deal. Steven hoped they could try different teams later, but starting with kids versus parents didn’t seem to bad. He putted a smile on his face and said with an excited tone. “Kids versus parents it is!” Jane smiled at him, happy he didn’t make it a big deal or anything.

Jane then turned her attention to Liam and answered him. “sure! The flags are in the car, I can go find them!” she then walked away up to where the car was parked. Steven watched as she left and so did her youngest children, confused with where she was going.

Abbey laughed at the little story Holly told her. Imagining what she had described was so funny to her. She looked at Alfred to see if he had any clue what we were whispering about, but he seemed clueless and it didn’t even seem like he knew they were whispering to each other. “Oh, I wish I was there!” Abbey whispered back.

Jane then came back again from the car. She walked down the little hill down to where the group was sitting. “Here they are!” she said when she was close enough to be heard talking and not yelling. She then pointed at the two flags in her left hand. One was red and one was blue.

Holly came up with something important, “Wait! How about the rule that we can't use magic?”, “Whaaat?!”, came it from Charlotte and Alfred out of one mouth.
“I mean, some of us can't really do magic or are still learning. It won’t be fair! Above all, the flags should be for everyone to find. Equal as for a four-year-old as well for a muggle.”, she pointed at Olive and then at Jane, “Don't get me wrong, but think about it.”

“Hear, hear!”, says Liam, “You are not wrong.”, “But-”, “No Charlotte. Holly’s right. Give me your wands. We put them in this basket so that you will not be tempted.”, He picked up a picnic basket and held it toward Charlotte and Alfred. “You don’t trust us?”, “Darling my Dearest, I trust you with my life”, he took her wand away, “but not with a wand in your hand.”, Alfred and Charlotte growled a little more but did not start an argument. Holly gave hers immediately with no words spoken.

After that situation, each team took a flag and left.

With the Kids
“Okay, how do we do it?”, asked Holly, then sure in her mind, it was the smartest thing to learn while doing it but to get a good start, she better ask right away.
Alfred starts talking, “A short skill check: Holly is not the fastest, but she is good at hiding. Mom is bloody fast, agile, and has good stamina, so watch out. Dad is good at chess, which means he calculates all our next steps and moves, but he isn’t a runner, plus he can only focus on one of us, so we need someone or better two who on his nerves. I am pretty fast, and I know my mom so how about I keep her in check?”

With the Adults
“Okay. Small summary about us: Charlotte is very athletic, so she is very fast. Alfred is also very fast and the way I know him, he will try to keep my wife busy. Holly is very good at hiding, so be aware of your surroundings, she can sneak very quietly.”, said Liam. In his thoughts he just wanted them to know their skill, so there are fewer surprises. Fewer surprises mean less distraction. Less distraction more winning. And boy he loved winning. Even more than losing. Who knew…

Neither Steven or Jane had thought about not using magic as a rule, but when Holly brought it up it was obvious that it was a good rule to have. “I agree with Holly. No use of magic is such an important rule.” Steven said looking at Holly before he turned to William and put his wand into the picnic basket. He then gave Julian a stare waiting for him to do the same. He knew Cynthia agreed that it was a good and fair rule, and that she would do the same just some second from now. Cynthia took some steps towards William and she put her wand into the picnic basket. Right after, Julian saw his dad’s serious expression and he did the exact same as his dad and Cynthia had just done.

Julian then grabbed the blue flag as quickly as he could, because it was his favourite colour. All the kids then walked over to their “base” and so did the parents. Cynthia holding little Olive’s hand as she walked, Abbey walking next to Holly, Julian running over to the “base” and the rest just following behind.

With the kids
Julian was still holding the tall team flag as he spoke. “We’re many and if you’re mom’s fast I think two should be keeping an eye on her. What about both me and you do so?” He wasn’t sure if it was a good idea having two of the fastest on the team trying too stop one person, but he really wanted to be with Alfred instead of his sisters. “Our dad is fast too, I think you should try to stop him from stealing our flag and then Alfred can stop Charlotte.” Abbey said. She could see that Julian was hesitating to agree or not. “Me and Holly can hide the flag and then we can try to take the others flag later or if needed we can help you and Alfred protecting our flag. Okey?” Julian nodded and looked at Alfred. “Sounds like a good plan right?”

With the Adults
“Okey so, Im not the fastest, but I think I could be good at trying to sneak past them or at like finding the flag.” Jane said so they could know her skills too. “I haven’t played this game in so long though so I’m really not sure, but last time I played I remember that was the things I was best at out of all.” Steven smiled getting flashback from last time they played capture the flag.

When Jane had finished talking Steven told the group what he wanted to do and what he could perhaps help with so that team red could win the first round. “So I might not be the fastest, but I can run, just more like a old dad then a athlete.” He chuckled to himself as he said. “I can hide the flag and then I can tag the kids when they try to take it.”

That sounds like a good plan indeed.

So, Holly set off with Abbey to hide the flag. She had some ideas. However, since it's her first round, she lets Abbey take the lead. Nevertheless, she tries to give at least one idea. “How about, behind the giant rock by the riverbank right under the bridge?", she said, "We could bury it in the sand. So no one would suspect anything. Right?”

Al did some stretches he prayed for good luck and right after that, he was ready to get on his mother’s nerves. he has enough practice thanks to her. But he still felt like the devil was personally after him every time. So yes, he was nervous, but he hoped that would keep his adrenaline going.

With the Adults
Charlotte did a brief warm-up drill and then was ready to go. Her goal was to distract the children by running after them so Jane could sneak past them. A little bit Mean? Yes, but she also promised Jane to give the younger ones a chance.

William left it to Steven to hide the flag. He looked over at the children who were further away. Alfred made himself ready to run. Holly and Abbey were gone. Abbey must have been busy hiding the flag, but Holly? Oh boy, is she launching an attack already? He started to look around and keep the surroundings in check.

Abbey was holding the flag now while she and Holly ran to find a place to hide it, before their parents could get to their teams “base.” Abbey took the lead and Holly was running right behind her. Abbey slowed down when she heard Holly tell her an idea. They were both now standing still in the forest some random place. “I like the plan, but are you sure that’s in our “base” area?” Abbey asked. She then looked around waiting for Holly to answer when she noticed a hollowed tree. “What about we hide the flag inside that tree over there?” she pointed at the tree as she spoke.

While Holly and Abbey were in the forest looking for a hiding place for the flag, Julian and Alfred both stood on their places ready to tag their parents when they decided to “attack”. Julian was ready too take his dad, not expecting his mom to be the one planing to run too take their flag with Charlotte.

With the adults
Steven began running into the forest on the adult team’s side looking for a place to hide the flag. He knew he had to hurry up because the other team had began to hide their flag for some time ago.

“It’s not too far away. I think...”, Holly answered, “But if you think you can find a big enough tree hole, go ahead.”, She didn’t mind at all, because Abbey had more experience anyway. So, she would know what she was doing and choose the right hiding place for the flag. Holly watched Abbey hiding the flag.

Now she began to look around and saw some bushes. In her head, a plan was formed. There were enough hiding places to get near the other team's base. And after the girlish screams of her brother, the attention seemed to be on the open field anyway. “I have an idea. Are you coming with me? Or do you have an idea of your own?”, She waited for the answer and left immediately after that to execute her plan. That pretty much was just sneaking and hiding and using the distraction of her brother.

On the open field
So. Alfred screamed like a little girl while his mother was almost catching him. Almost. How she managed to be so fast with a dress… God knows. Like a rabbit that tries to outrun a wolf. And yes, he even tried zigzag. Sadly, to no avail. But she didn’t catch him yet. But at the very least it looked funny.

With the Adults
Liam was just trying to make sure none of the kids crossed the open field and the imaginary line to the base. It was nothing new to him that his wife chased his son, which was commonplace at home. But usually, then Charlotte screamed, not Liam. And out of anger, not out of fear. Anyway. Home sweet home.
Now where was Holly.

Abbey hid the flag inside the tree. You couldn’t see it and it just looked like the flag was one with the three. Abbey smiled at Holly knowing this was going to be a good plan, at least for a while. “If they have the luck to notice the flag, we will go for your plan, okey? We can then hide it by the bridge”

“I don’t have a plan or idea yet.” Abbey answered Holly after she had just hid the flag. Holly ran away and Abbey followed behind her. assuming she had a plan. She could hear Alfred screaming like a girl and knew something was happening at the open field.

On the open field
Julian stood safe in the kids “base” watching Alfred running away from Charlotte. He laughed enjoying the show and didn’t pay attention to his mother sneaking into their “base”.

Jane sneaked into the base on the side where Julian was standing. It was a lot easier to distract her son then she had expected because she almost just walked over and he still didn’t notice. Even though Julian didn’t notice, Cynthia did! She jumped out of a bush and tagged her mother. “Got you!” Jane looked shocked at Cynthia and walked back to the adults base with her hand in the air so everyone knew she had been tagged.

“You got to do better!” Cynthia yelled to Julian from the bush she was standing with. “Sorry!” was the only thing Julian said back, he genuinely meant it and he didn’t want to be the reason his team lost.

With the adults
Steven was at the very end of their base areas imaginary line. He looked around and the only good hiding place he could find was a medium sized rock with dirt around it. He began digging a hole under the rock and placed the flag there. The flag was now buried in a little dirt hole under the medium sized rock.

Steven then walked a bit away from where the flag was on the ground and looked around looking for any of the kids. There were no one to see around the area yet.

On the open field
Holly managed to get through the bushes almost halfway through the open field and kept herself hidden in the shade. After that, she really needed to thank her brother for the distraction. Not even her father noticed her when she practically snuck past right under his nose and he was actually focusing on finding Holly. She also helped Abbey get past to get through as quietly and quickly as she. Until they managed to enter their parent’s base. Her plan worked!

But there was a problem. The problem was called Steven. Thanks Dad…

With the Parents
Was he paranoid or what? He looked around, but he saw no children. At least none crossed the imaginary line. Right? Holly had to be somewhere. It would be so uncharacteristic of her not to try to sneak in and try to get the flag…
Wait. What if she has already made it through? Oh Boy.
Better warn Steven, “Steven! Watch out! Holly is here!”

With the Kids
“Got you!”, Charlotte yelled, when she finally got her own flesh and blood. Alfred panted like a dog, but Charlotte didn’t. At home, she had to train her son a bit. Seriously.

She had noticed earlier Cynthia catching Jane. So, she ran to Jane to free her, careful not to get caught by Cynthia. On the way, she had to dodge the kids, because they obviously didn't just stand still. But she managed it and freed Jane. After that, she decided to chase Julian. After all, she did not lack energy and stamina.

Abbey got past William without being seen and she was just as quiet as Holly. Holly had the lead now and Abbey wasn’t sure what her plan really was, but still followed and copied most of the things she did. When Holly would run or hide, then so did Abbey.

After they had sneaked closer to the flag and where her dad was standing, she finally asked. “What’s the plan, do you have one?” the two of them were now hiding behind another bush just a few steps away from where Steven was.

With the parents
Steven heard the warning from William and prepared himself to protect the flag. He looked around in every direction trying to spot where Holly and maybe Abbey could be. “I can’t see anyone!” He yelled back, still protecting the flag like it was a baby.

With the kids
Julian was still just standing there in the kids base watching what was happening. It wasn’t before Alfred got tagged that he ran out of the base to actually take a part in the game. Julian ran over to free Alfred while Charlotte freed Jane. His mother got freed first and on his way over to Alfred he could see both Charlotte and his mom running over to him.

“Run!” He yelled as he freed Alfred. Charlotte and Jane was close and as he ran he quickly noticed that he was Charlotte’s target and Jane was running after Alfred.
