Quidditch Mahoutokoro vs. Castelobruxo - Summer 2024

In the interest of transparency and full disclosure, due to circumstances completely outside of his control, Ming has extremely limited internet access among the other things that come with regional instability. The admin team has allowed his character to be replaced by a NPC should he be unable to post. In the interest of fairness, we have replaced his stats with the standard NPC stats we use for sports games when they are needed.

Roleplaying as Ginyami Midorimori from Mahoutokoro
"English | Japanese"
The overcast sky seemed as patchy with clouds as Ginyami felt his relationship with Sara was becoming. He couldn't decide if the cloud cover was preferable to tip the odds of winning the game in their favor or if the afternoon sunlight might have proven more advantageous. Likewise, the upperclassman had trouble determining how much might have been best to illuminate to his boyfriend about his past history with Valentin and how much might have been better to leave him in the dark about. Regardless, whatever he decided would have to wait. The game was about to begin and couldn't afford to be any more distracted than he already was.

It was Ginyami's first time playing an official game representing Mahoutokoro after many years during which he'd earned an infamous reputation of cheating. Upon having been able to make the team yet again, he had obtained a brand new Oakshaft 79 and entered the stadium alongside his teammates with it at his side and his head held high. He was proud to be able to represent his school once more, but he couldn't completely concentrate on the game - not with concerns of Sara plaguing him. Then, of course, there was Hiro, Sara's fellow beater. And as if that wasn't enough to keep his mind occupied, Ginyami had managed to spot Valentin's tell-tale head of white hair among the crowd of on-lookers. He forced his flurry of emotions down as he mounted his broom and took off with his fellow Quidditch players.

Ginyami knew, of course, that Sara had every reason to need to talk to and coordinate with Hiro since they were both beaters on the same team, but that was the problem with emotions. They didn't always - if ever - listen to reason. Despite knowing better, the keeper's jealousy began to creep up on him as he involuntarily caught the few words passed between the beaters. Hiro asked how Sara was and Sara replied that he was fine. It wasn't a whole lot and yet...yet Sara wouldn't even look at him, so even a few words were a big difference. Ginyami couldn't help comparing it with a sharp sting to the complete lack of words that he and Sara had exchanged since the previous night after the mistletoe event.

He had told Sara he would tell him. That he would explain. He had promised. And yet, even when they had the opportunity for it to be just the two of them alone for a private discussion, Sara had opted out of it. And although the soft-spoken upperclassman didn't seem to have much of his own opinion on things, once he did, and then once he made up his mind about something, that was that. There as no room for argument or even a single word on the matter.

It wasn't like Ginyami didn't understand. They had their big quidditch match that next day, after all. He was well aware of what Sara felt about playing quidditch in general. The beater was not exactly fond of it, but had joined due to having been convinced by someone else - had it been Aryaan Shamsi? - to join the school's team and for good reason. Sara was amazing at his role of quidditch beater, but it was still obvious he didn't like it. Well, obvious to his peer, at least. Even as nervous as Sara got, he did not generally express his discomfort or anxiety as obviously or overtly as shaking hands or stammered words. Thus, his childhood friend knew better than to mistake Sara's apparently calm demeanor for actual tranquility.

Over the years, Ginyami had been waiting for Sara to dislike quidditch so much that he quit. He knew he couldn't do it for him because then Sara would have never learned to speak up for himself. At rate they were going, he still might never, but at least he was using his silence to communicate in a way if nothing else. That was a start and better than having literally nothing. But still, the questions remained: how much of Sara's silence was due to anxiety this time? How much was due to anger or sadness? What portion or percentage was due to playing first string beater in a quidditch match as opposed to what had gone down the previous night? And how much had been caused by Ginyami himself?

Even if Sara had initially been curious about his boyfriend and the albino Durmstrang, he still needed time to process how he felt about not having known such things regarding Ginyami's and Valentin's relationship in the first place. About how he might feel upon hearing them. If he really even wanted to know. But the fact that Sara was starting to get an idea of how much he didn't know was enough cause for alarm in itself. The more Sara thought about it, the more he was likely to just get stuck inside his own head about it. Perhaps he would find ways to blame himself even when he'd had nothing at all to do with the matter. Or maybe he'd blame himself for that very truth on its own, thinking he should have had something to do with it while it had been happening.

That was one of the things about Sara that concerned Ginyami most. The quiet young man was the sort who could always manage to find fault with himself before he did so with anyone else. If Ginyami could only just get Sara to listen, he was sure he could explain well enough to dissuade his companion of any such nonsense. But for that to happen, Sara had to be in a mood to listen to him in the first place. Otherwise, no matter how persuasive or logical his boyfriend was, none of it would matter. Thus, the more time that passed, the more Ginyami grew increasingly concerned for the taciturn youth. Was it possible that Sara might not ever be ready to talk to Ginyami about him and Valentin?

Part of the reason the Midorimori family heir had had a hard time preparing for a situation like the one he now found himself in was because he had never anticipated Sara being bothered by such a thing in the first place. He was still having trouble trying to grasp the idea that Sara was bothered or upset by it. Even after having urged Sara to think for himself and express his true opinions on everything, Ginyami had been so used to the idea of Sara simply going along with what others wanted in order to make them happy that he had unknowingly still been under the impression that the quidditch beater had simply been people-pleasing again.

Even for Ginyami, it was all too easy by then to fall into the trap of believing that Sara had only agreed to go along with his proposal that they try dating just to make the other person happy. Sara had been that way for most if not the entirety of his life, after all. It had never once before then actually occurred to the navy-robed student that Sara might have actually wanted to date him; just that he hadn't necessarily not wanted to.

Unfortunately, even if he'd started to consider the possibility since, that very realization came far too late. Already there was nothing Ginyami could do; not while Sara kept him shut out. Even if Sara truly had an actual interest or investment in dating him and had since developed many concerns, questions, or fears regarding his history, there was not a way Ginyami could alleviate them. Not until Sara decided for himself that he was ready to listen and Ginyami was not about to push him. However, he was more hopeful that by the end of the match, that would change. He would just have to be patient, remain calm, and keep his wits about him until then. However long that took. So, in the meantime, he turned his attention to other matters.

Valentin. Why was he there? It wasn't like Ginyami had gone to attend his Quidditch game, so why should he have attended Ginyami's? Perhaps it was to scope out his competition on the slim chance they might have eventually been pitted against each other: Mahoutokoro against Durmstrang. But no, due to the drastic age difference and amount of sheer life experience that the Durmstrang Quidditch Team had compared to Mahoutokoro's, it couldn't have even been considered a real competition. Thus, there was no blaming the Quidditch Captain's presence on that excuse.

Ginyami didn't want to think about what the real reason was, though, because whichever it was of the most likely scenarios he had come up with - being there to watch Ginyami play, being there to watch Sara play, or perhaps even both - the pureblood knew he would have had a hard time repressing his own anger, possessiveness, jealousy, and spite. He - and perhaps everyone else that could have gotten involved - were probably just better off with Ginyami pretending Valentin wasn't even there in the crowd at all.

“...Be careful during the game, please?..”

Ears perked for the sound of Sara's voice, the Japanese pureblood jerked his head toward the noise. But no, Sara hadn't been talking to him. It had been to Hiro. Hiro, who by virtue of being the only person Sara had talked to as of that quidditch match, was already earning a good deal more of Ginyami's jealousy.

No...no. He couldn't afford to turn on his own teammates for this match. He had to focus. Eager to get his head in the game, he shook it.

Whatever happened, however good the players of Castelobruxo were, this was certain to be a challenging game as far as Ginyami was concerned. But then, the fox-eyed young man always did enjoy rising to the challenge and he felt it had been a while since he'd faced a decent one. Rather than strategizing for this silly game within the confines of its rules - in which a victory rested almost entirely on the capture of a single, tiny golden ball - Ginyami was more prone to seeking paths to victory through means of cheating that they might have been able to get away with. Cheating was, after all, by many if not most quidditch players, considered part of the game in itself. There may have been a lot on his mind, but he was no stranger to multitasking. Besides...he had some good incentive to win this game in particular.

The better their school did in this game, the higher the spirits of his teammates would be by the end of it. And the higher the spirits of his teammates, the better the chances Sara would be amenable to finally listening to what he had to say.

- In the role of Keeper when you attempt to block your goal, if your opponent somehow has advantage on attempting to score a goal, that is negated (they only have their normal single roll against you).

- In the role of Keeper a critical success on an attempt to block a goal not only means that the Keeper caught the quaffle but they have also successfully passed the quaffle (without a chance of interception) to an allied target of their choice. A critical failure in this case cannot happen for a Keeper, they get to re-roll the attempt to block.

Note: Critical failure and critical success chances can be expanded with certain abilities and skills.

- In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.

Due to confusion that has arisen - I am granting both teams an extension for strategies only (not posts). You will have 24 hours from the moment THIS post has been posted to submit a new strategy, if you would like. If you do not submit a new one, your old one will be used. This is simply because we have changed the teams around a little and wanted to give both teams a chance to make a new strategy based on the new teams.

Quidditch Mahoutokoro vs. Castelobruxo - Summer 2024
NPC to be played by a member of the Mahoutokoro Team. Nominate someone and they will be responsible for their 50-word posts from next round. You do not need to post this round.

You do not have to post whilst the character is benched (as they do not get an action anyway). However, if NPC Sota does play, someone on the Mahoutokoro team has to post on his behalf for their action to count.

This NPC is a second string chaser for Mahoutokoro.

Name: Takahashi Sota
Blood Status: Pureblood
Year: 5 | Age: 15
School: Mahoutokoro
Appearance: Sota is a little shorter than his peers, not having hit a proper growth spurt yet. He was about 5 ft 4 at the moment, which his older brother teased him relentlessly about. His brother was only a year his senior and at least three inches taller than him. He had dark brown eyes and black hair that were often a little messy since he did not bother to style it properly. The messy look was kind of his go-to style, in truth. The fourteen-year-old girls loved it, apparently! He constantly wears eyeliner.

Personality: Sota is a little bit sarky, a bit emo and a bit edgy. He likes to act rather mature - almost trying to be an adult before his time. He gets really energetic and enthusiastic when he talks about singing, which is one of his passions. Before remembering that 'passion' isn't "cool" enough and then trying to act all laidback and cool. A little spoilt and bratty - charms of being the youngest in a wealthy family. He has definite boyband energy though. Lead vocal energy. Who wouldn't want to hear him sing? He was pretty fantastic - if he did say so himself, which he did more often than not. In reality, he probably wasn't very good but in his head, he was the hottest thing ever. He also wrote poetry and considered himself a great poet. It helped with the songwriting. Oh, how hard is this world that didn't appreciate his incredibleness? Oh, woe is him!

History: Born to a rather pureblood family in the centre of Tokyo, Sota grew up as the precious child of the Takashi family. He is the youngest of three - all boys. His family was rather well off and as the youngest, he was doted on quite a bit. His older brothers were model students - or had been, really. They had the proper etiquette when it came to pouring tea, always looked very well-presented and they had great grades. The middle brother was an incredible duellist able to win against anyone and the oldest worked in politics now - and they were both excellent in their careers or schooling.

Pretty much as soon as he could talk, Sota started singing lessons. He quickly fell in love with singing and quickly, this became a passion for him - to the point where his biggest goal is becoming the famous lead in a popular boyband. One of his brothers was a pianist and the other was incredible with the violin, as well as other string instruments such as guitar. So he took singing, trying to be different but with the hope that perhaps, they could all end up in a band together. Imagine that - the three brothers in a boyband. Until that day, however, he was often seen trying to start a boyband with his peers at Mahoutokoro.

During his schooling, he took poetry as one of his electives as soon as the option arose for it and joined several clubs, including the Tea Ceremony Club - in order to learn how to pour tea properly and look better than his brothers - and one related to music.

First Instance of Magic: One day, when he was picking his nose and flicking boogers at his older brothers - as he usually did - they got mad. He was six years old, throwing snot at them from a chair whilst they were showing off their skills. They - obviously - ended up getting angry at him. So he quickly dipped out of the house, running away from them. He got onto the main street by accident, where a car zipped towards him. In fear, Sota closed his eyes. He had no idea what happened. There was a lot of screaming - his brothers yelled at him to get off the street. The car honked. But when he opened his eyes, he was lying on the side of the road, totally fine. His brother dived over him and he thought his brother had pushed him out of the way to save him.

Later, when his parents found out what happened, they first scolded him but then explained as both of his older brothers witnessed it. He had actually used magic to get out of the way without realising it. As the fear struck him, it kicked his body into action and he got himself out of the way of the car. Luckily, to the muggles around, it just looked like his brother had dived him and pushed him out of the way whilst the car swerved to avoid them.

Evasive Maneuvers 1 AND 2: Harder to hit on average, 10% on auto-dodge chance that anything that targets this wizard automatically misses. This is rolled separate from the attack roll.

This ability can be acquired up to 2 times. When acquired twice, this stacks so when acquired a second time this becomes a 20% chance.

Note: There is a hard cap of 20% regardless of all spells, abilities, potions or other effects.

Impartial: Aesthetic effects such as the lovely creature ability, a Veela's alluring, certain charms, potions and jinxes that would normally cause an effect based on aesthetic beauty do not work on you as you are immune to them. This does not apply to love potions or spells.

Metamorphmagi that take this ability can become Inspired by users that have the ability alluring or lovely creature. Inspired metamorphs gain a (+1) to a stat of their choice as long as there is a conscious, present alluring creature in the thread with them. Chasers and Keepers

Both teams immediately spring into action with the call to start. Ginyami immediately darts away from his position at the Mahoutokoro goalposts, angling himself towards Raul. There's a momentary one-sided exchange of elbows before a voice rings out across the stadium. "I see you over there, cool it on the fouling! Penalty lap for the Mahoutokoro keeper! Avery calls, hiding a sympathetic wince as she watches the elbowing take place.

The battle for the quaffle is as action packed as ever. Both teams send chasers forward, while others hang back to watch for falling teammates. Alphonse and Daniel team up against Kanae, with Daniel having an easy go at scoring 30 points against an empty set of goals. Kanae holds her own against the duo, however, wrestling the quaffle away from both Castelobruxo chasers and managing to find openings past the opposing keeper to put Mahoutokoro on the board with 20 points.

Seekers

Though still reeling from the surprise of Ginyami's elbows, Raul is able to resume his hunt for the snitch. The distraction is just enough, though. Miharu is unimpeded in her search, and sure enough, a glint of gold is spotted in the distance.

Beaters

The beaters on both teams go on the offensive. Monet and Pedro team up to send a screamer towards Hiro, the opposing beater just unable to get out of the way in time before the bludger makes contact. The Castelobruxo bludger ricochets off of Hiro and rockets towards Sara, the second beater just managing to dodge out of the way but unable to get his bat up in time to send it rebounding back towards the South American team. Sara does, however, seek revenge via a shot from the 2nd bludger on the field towards Pedro. The younger beater is just able to dodge out of the way of the devastating hit, likely able to feel the breeze from the close call. Hiro's own attempt to send a bludger at the Castelobruxo seeker is easily read and dodged by Raul.

Her disappointment was short-lived as she was called into the pitch to play instead of Aryaan Shamsi. 'Āryān-san ni nani ga okotta nodesu ka?'1 she thought curiously, quite worriedly too. Kanae promised to herself that she'll try to make up for their absence as best as she could. The girl mounted her broom and joined her teammates in the air. Then the match began.

Though she didn't get the quaffle the first time, she managed to wrestle the ball from the two Castelobruxo chasers the next. It was a miracle she even scored. She celebrated in her head for a bit but then the third time she had to grab the quaffle, she lost to the other team's chasers. "Gomen ne, min'na"2 she apologised to her team. Kanae tried hard for the next time she grabbed the quaffle. Her efforts were not wasted and she earned another 10 points... it was only 10 though. 'Kyōdai-tachi to no resuringu ya kenka ga kono gēmu de yakudatta to omoimasu'3 she internally thanked her brothers in preparing her for this.

The last 10 points went to the other team though, 2 was stronger than 1 in the end. 30 - 20. Her efforts were shown but apparently they weren't enough. "Gomen'nasai, motto ganbarubekideshita"4 Kanae's over-apologist side was very obvious.

He was rusty. Those quaffle grabs weren't the best performance he'd ever had. A little over last week, he played Beater for that unofficial Quidditch match, which had taken up more of his training regime than the actual game that mattered.

He scored thirty points, though, with Mahoutokoro's Keeper having left his position. Daniel sent a quick thumbs up to Alphonse @Remedy Norden. "Nice catch!"

The opposing Keeper was on penalty lap next round, meaning that was another set of goals for the taking. Daniel grinned.

Acacia sat on the bench, foot tapping a rhythm as she looked out over the game. Watching and waiting was the worst part (although of course she was happy that her teams chasers were safe and she wasn't required to sub in) of any game. She watched as the chasers scored a solid 30 points, but the singular Mahoutokoro chaser held her own well and managed to slip 20 points through. The bludgers favoured them today though- she let out a cheer as she saw their beaters send a killer bludger that hit the opposing beater and knocked him off his broom. This was good. Since there were no second strings, there was only one target left before her team was basically safe from being knocked out of the sky by a speeding ball.

"GO SARA!!!"

Sara blinked at the not so familiar shouting of a somewhat familiar voice. His eyes widened seeing.. Was that Emmalee? It was sorta hard not to see her. Waving around a red flag, adorned in clothes in shades that are unmistakably similar to his own quidditch uniform. Sara couldn’t help but be taken aback by such an obvious display of support. But it was.. Nice. For the first time in a while, he found himself wanting to smile. Emmalee at the moment was not aware of the troubles that have plagued Sara’s mind since last night. But unknowingly, lifted his spirits regardless. Something Sara was having difficulties in doing lately. He gave her a wave, and what looked to be almost a smile, but it faded. Still, a close friend could tell he was happy.

Unfortunate that Emmalee wasn’t the only one paying attention to Sara. He saw a glimpse of white and looked away, his grip on his broom tightening slightly. Remnants of the confusing concoction of feelings lingering under his skin and tensing his shoulders. He had yet to figure out how he felt about the other boy. On one hand, he hasn’t done anything truly spiteful to Sara. He could perhaps even argue that he made no mistake at all. Neither was Yami in a way…

He grimaced, knowing where his thoughts were turning by the churn in his stomach. He let out a cough, desperate to distract himself from the flow of his thoughts. This wasn’t the time to think about that. Sara took a deep breath and started the game.

Managing to evade what he could, but quickly his fellow beater was taken down. He frowned, tensing as he saw Hiro get knocked out of the game. The worst parts of quidditch, honestly. But he learned to respect that was what most people signed up for, despite knowing the risks. He told himself he would visit Hiro in the wing later, even just briefly. Before focusing back on the game.

Stats: +4 to 2 stats of choice. (+4 Strength +4 Accuracy )
Ability:Has an increased capacity. Can carry 3 people. May pick any three of the following skills. They must be declared at the start of the game.

Chosen Broom Abilities

In the role of Beater, if you hit an opponent with a bludger the bludger will then ricochet off that user and target a second opponent of choice (must be declared, if not declared the target will be random and can be an ally but not yourself).
In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.
In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

It had been a good plan from the very start of the game and Tone had thought their plan had been solid from Mahoutokoro's perspective. Sara's reaction to his initial greeting at the start of the match had been a little strange. Mostly because usually Sara wasn't like this right off the bat. As a result of this, Tone could tell something was bothering him. But they didn't have much time to interact up in the air, since it was now the start of the match.

So it wasn't as if he could do much about it right now. After the match he'd seek him out and see what was wrong, if Sara still looked like he was bothered about something. He glanced over at Sara when the slightly older student softly told him to be careful during the game. A smile came to his lips and he nodded at him. "Of course. You know me." Tone told him and gave him a thumbs up. This summer '24, Mahoutokoro would win the quidditch game.

History would not repeat itself. They had practiced a ton after their last loss and were coming back strong and prepared for the opposition. Unfortunately, things didn't really turn out the way the beater had planned for them. Tone quickly targeted Raul, Castelobruxo's only seeker. The white haired teen's broom sped towards his target and got him there really fast compared to others. It didn't take Tone long to spot one of the two bludgers.

Grasping his bat, he zoomed towards the location and came to a halt near the bludger. But right when he was about to take aim and connect with the ball, he quickly realized both beaters on the other team had decided to team up to take him out. Not exactly what he'd expected them to do for their first action. Because of this combined attack on the boy, Tone's accuracy at sending the bludger towards Raul went wide, causing Raul to easily avoid him.

On the other hand, the white haired beater himself ended up getting hit straight on from Castelobruxo's combined attack from their beaters and was knocked off Yajirushi. The wind was knocked out of him from the initial blow causing him to slam into the ground pretty hard and as a result was knocked out in the process. Tone would eventually wake up inside a healer's tent a few days later, after healing from the damage sustained earlier.
