2023/24, Stage 3 Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff: Match 4

There really was something to be said for only contending with two opponents. With Rose left to fight Julian's spell on the floor of the piste, and Kim seemingly having caught on to the Hufflepuff strategy and spending the next precious seconds casting a healing spell on himself, Julian was left with a leisurely amount of time to ensuring he was aiming carefully and cast his Knockback Jinx. It hit.

It must've worked out similarly for the rest of his teammates, because all three of them managed to land his spell -- even Hades, who'd had to dodge a blindfolding spell headed his way. There was something satisfying about it, though Kim was looking rather peaky and coughing as he pulled himself up from the floor, making Julian's conscience twinge a smidge, even though all the spells they'd chosen were reasonably tame. No burning, explosions or lightning.

Kim decided to invest all his concentration into dodging, and no one could call him a coward for it. Bridget saw it, too, the three wands once again pointed at him, Hufflepuff's intentions spelled out clearly. He couldn't take too many more hits, even with the brilliant glow of Rose's magical aid, so he needed to make sure those shots missed him.

Except the Hufflepuff team was either very good at faking or having a hard time aiming. Only Hades' jinx actually came at Kim, and that one did connect solidly despite Kim's best efforts. Hades was just too fast, deadly aim and smooth avoidance of yet another blindfold that Nicky tried to get him with.

Lea and Julian, though, were different stories. Lea's spell must have gone wrong, because her wand had not been pointed anywhere near Hades, and yet it flew closer to her teammate than to anyone else. Julian looked like he'd had some trouble casting, wand hiccupping a few sparks, but he regained enough control to slam a Flipendo into Rose's shoulder. Hiccups or not, Hufflepuff was still going happily unscathed.

The Hufflepuffs sent three Knockback Jinxes towards Kim, and two of them went haywire. Lea's spell swerved near Hades, though he was able to avoid it, and Julian's spell swerved to hit Rose instead, so fast that she was unable to avoid it. It knocked the air out of her, and she felt a little worse for wear, but she was fine. However, there was one that wasn't fine- Kim. She turned to her teammate, and instead of hurling a spell at the Hufflepuffs, she murmured, "Reparifors." She watched as a little bit of energy returned to his body- not enough to really heal him, but enough that Julian's jinx hadn't made him pass out.

This duel officially sucked but Nicky was determined to carry on. She smiled at her teammates while plotting her next move. She had to focus on her target, more than ever, and let her spell fly where she intended to this time. She could still do better and she was certain she was going to rock the next attempt, unlike all the previous ones.
RAWR.

Image posted by the member──It was steadily getting worse for him as the seconds ticked past. Kim was drenched, hurting from the numerous attacks on him, and was currently consumed by the urge to kiss his opponents. But he managed to resist the urge to do so, clinging to the focus of retaining the incantations for all of the spells he'd learned inside his head, his hand still grasping his wand. He would win this one.

Kim's vision was getting blurry again as everything faded in and out of focus but he still managed to remain standing, at least for the time being that is. The fourteen year old didn't even realize when Rose healed him because Julian and Hades managed to send two more Knockback Jinxes at him. Both of which hit him again. The blows knocked him off his feet and for a time he saw a flash.

He'd gone somewhere else and then suddenly Kim was back again. Well, his consciousness that is. What was next for him?

It seemed like it would really only take one more solid hit for Kim to be out and the duel brought to a 2 v 3. And after the success of the round previous, why not try the same thing again? Only it would seem that this time things would take a turn for the worse in ways Lea did not anticipate. The Knockback Jinx aimed directly at Kim would find itself shifting in her confusion, suddenly released from her wand in a strange arc that more closely flew towards Hades. Lea turned, glancing towards her teammate before relaxing a bit upon realizing that no injury had befallen the fellow Hufflepuff. "Ah- sorry Hades!"

Luck seemed to be on his side. He watched for a few seconds as Rose cast a spell on Kim, something Hades quickly assumed was one to heal and recover what they had lost after Hufflepuff’s constant spells against Kim. The girl named Elsa tried to cast a spell that would blind him, but Hades quickly managed to dodge it.

Read when performing the spell, it worked but instead of hitting the target, went straight almost to Hades “Don’t worry!” was the only thing he said, trying to maintain focus. It was Hades' turn, and his plan was to target Kim, which happened. He was a little surprised, to tell the truth. It was the third consecuctive that he got and he was visibly delighted.

Okay, so Julian's spell on Kim--a well-practised flipendo--had given him a little trouble. His wand had, at first, taken a second or two to respond and his aim had hardly flown true, what with it heading straight for Rose rather than Kim. It was alright, though. He'd still hit someone on the opposing team, and they were still doing better than the Gryffindors.

Gryffindor finally landed some decisive hits, and it had to feel good. Rose expertly slowed Hades' movements, an effect that would only get worse with time, and Nicky followed it up by setting both him and Julian on fire. That would give the Hufflepuff team a thing or two to contend with. Kim tried to hit Hades, too, but Hades proved too fast for the exhausted Gryffindor's aim.

Hufflepuff, meanwhile, was not winning any awards for variety this game. It was once again three wands pointed at Kim, just trying to finally finish the job, and at this point Bridget was kind of hoping they would because he looked miserable. He wasn't done yet, though, Kim pulling speed none of them would have guessed he still had to avoid the spells from Lea and Julian. But not Hades. Hades would not be deterred or distracted by the three spells sent his way, he would remain Hufflepuff's reliable caster with another solid hit, leaving Kim just barely standing.

Nicky was finally satisfied with the result she had. She just had to keep it up and all would be well. She needed to stay focused and keep calm as much as possible to reach her goal. And with the help of her wonderful teammates, like Kim who was expertly dodging every hit and Rose, she knew she could win. Because together the three of them were an unstoppable force.
