She was flying, flying like a free bird in the sky. Nothing mattered anymore. Grades, school, future job... Elisa didn't care. She had never been so carefree, felt so light and happy in her life! At this precise moment, the world meant nothing to her. She just knew that she was dancing hand in hand with two friends, all three of them delving into a haven of their own.

Eyes still closed, Elisa felt the soft and peaceful music dancing around Emily, Kaitlyn and herself, enveloping the happy trio in it's wonderful airs. The atmosphere was much, much more relaxed than when she had first entered the ballroom. Within a few minutes, the girls had gotten to know each other, well enough to feel comfortable and secure together. That's a pretty good achievement, Elisa thought in a corner of her mind.

She barely noticed Emily talking, since she was that much absorbed into a world of her own. But suddenly, she as good as woke with a start from that musical dreamland. She had sensed a bit, just a bit of hesitancy in Emily's voice. That one little bit of unsureness broke the completely relaxing atmosphere.

Elisa opened her eyes again. Emily was asking a question. Friends? Well I thought we didn't have to say that. We're already friends, aren't we? But at least I'm not the one asking the question, it would've been so awkward! As she realised that she was thinking again of the word 'awkward', Elisa couldn't resist a burst of laughter.

"Of course! Friends... of course! Totally! Of course!" Elisa couldn't resist to emphasise the words. It felt- so amazing! Those words coming out of her mouth, promising friendship to a fellow first year. She didn't have any first year friends, she realised.

Kaitlyn was ecstatic with how this dance was going. It almost felt like the worries washed off of her, and any anxiety fell at her feet. It was a nice feeling to be at peace like this. While very few words were exchanged between the three girls, this felt like a bonding experience. One that she rarely had. It felt … just right, in her opinion. She hoped Emily and Elisa felt the same way as her. As much as she’d like to ask, she didn’t want to ruin the moment they shared. ‘Why add my anxieties into the conversation? These two girls do not need me to weigh them down in that sense,’ she thought.

With every spin, every twirl, Kaitlyn could feel her hands firmly in Emily’s and Elisa’s. Her laugh was light but still enjoyable. The melodies from the phonograph filled her ears. It gave her a sense of euphoria. As much as her logical brain liked confirmation about certain things, she was very quick to define friendships with other students. She felt like a friendship was brewing between her, Emily, and Elisa.

So, when Emily asked, kind of hesitantly, if they would be friends, Kaitlyn opened her eyes to look over at Emily. ‘I already considered us friends … but, I guess a confirmation of that fact would be helpful,’ she thought. Before she could reply, Elisa already confirmed them to be friends. A smile grew on Kaitlyn’s lips and she nodded in agreement. “Yes, friends, I completely agree,” her stutter nonexistant.

At the reassuring words of both Kaitlyn and Elisa, Emily felt an entire anchor lift off her chest. It was if she was finally able to breathe properly for the first time all day. She expected, if not chuckled, at the unsure glances from each of them after asking a question she already knew the answer to, but to hear it come from them helped settle Emily's worries before she would feel herself become desperate for validation. There were no signs of pity either as Emily previously feared, but instead genuine friendship among the three of them as they continued to dance.

They continued for a while. What felt like hours together was only mere minutes, yet they were all so absorbed in the good times they were having. Emily felt she was stuck in an interstice between the present and the past; while she was thoroughly enjoying the moment she was sharing with them in the present, she imagined the parties her parents would hold back whenever they visited. Though too young to properly experience, she placed herself in an imaginary situation where she danced as freely as she was now in and amongst a group of high-ranking politicians, businessmen and models. She never liked to make assumptions, but she could guarantee she would have more fun dancing like this than she ever would growing up in some stuck-up business soiree.

It was several minutes before any of them realised the record had finished playing and the phonograph stopped. They all took a few silent breaths to restock their energy before Emily let out another content laugh.

"Heh... I enjoyed that... really enjoyed that." Emily knew she was being rather dramatic with her words but if her energy wasn't enough to convince the others of how much fun she had, she didn't know what else would.

"You two... thanks for dancing with me. So... What should we do now...?" Emily gauged the noises coming from out in the corridor, fearing that they were now short on time before they would eventually have to leave.

It was only when Emily brought the little group to a gently stop when Elisa noticed that the recorder had stopped playing. The room felt- empty, without the soothing tune in the background. Instead, all Elisa could hear was the bustling corridor outside the ballroom. She pictured the busy castle with all the students hurrying everywhere.

Ugh, after this enjoyable moment, we'll have to go back to our Common Room and everything... Elisa sighed. She didn't know what she was expecting, there had to be and end to all good things. But still... Well, at least I made two friends! They seem like the kind of friendship that would last, too. Elisa had had too many short term friendships. One night, a friendly discussion, the following morning, as though nothing they never knew each other.

Elisa did sincerely hope this friendship would last. She was already into a few weeks of school, and she still didn't have any 'real' friends.

As Emily spoke, Elisa grinned broadly. "Of course! It was- a truly great moment, for a lack of words." She hesitated. "I- I don't know. What should we do now?" That was a completely useless and stupid thing to say, Elisa thought. But she was being honest, she didn't know what they could do.

Kaitlyn giggled, as the girls continued to dance and spin together. Just these movements captivated her. She was lost in their combined giggles. Truthfully, not paying attention to their surroundings, as the music stopped playing on the phonograph. It took their collective group a bit to even take notice of the lack of music. It was finally when Emily broke their collective joy of dancing together.

It took Kaitlyn a few moments to slow her beating heart. Not from stress, but from the phsyical movements of dancing with two girls. “I really enjoyed it, too,” Kaitlyn smiled brightly at Emily and Elisa. She giggled quietly, as Emily thanked them for dancing with her. Kaitlyn nodded. “You’re very welcome. I’m glad we had the opportunity to share this,” she smiled. ‘I’m happy I asked them to dance together. I found this to be enjoyable, and it appears they both felt the same way as me. Great!’

Emily then asked about what they should do now and Elisa agreed with not knowing. A strange conundrum. Both her and Elisa could always go back to their common room, but that would not include Emily. She thought about it for a few moments. “I’d rather not go back to my common room just yet. Would either of you like to sit together in the Great Hall? Or maybe head outside?” She asked.

Emily could see the eagerness in both Elisa and Kaitlyn's eyes. They didn't want the moment they were sharing together to end. Though with the impending classes approaching, they couldn't afford to spend too long in the ballroom. It was a pity, Emily thought. It was one of the more enjoyable bonding moments she has had at Hogwarts so far, so for it to end on such an anticlimactic note felt off.

Emily took a moment to think on what they could do for the next few minutes. Kaitlyn did bring up the fact the notion that they could go outside. It was a good plan given how nice the weather was as the afternoon rolled in. Eventually, Emily pitched her idea.

"I know we probably all have classes we need to get to shortly so why don't we take a quick walk around the corridors and just wait out the time? We can continue talking until then."

Emily smiled, hopeful that her idea would land with the two girls. By the feel of things, it didn't seem like they would object, but Emily was never one to boast her ideas either. She wanted to hear what Kaitlyn and Elisa thought of it first. As her friends, every decision counted.

Elisa looked from Emily to Kaitlyn as both girls suggested their ideas. Their ideas were fine, really, but Elisa wasn't sure it would be quite the same outside the ballroom. It was where they met, where they slowly got closer to each other, where they shared their very first experiences as friends! Outside the ballroom, they would be returning to the busy castle of Hogwarts, among hundreds, maybe thousands of other students, going in and out of classes...

Besides, all of the activities the girls suggested were centred around talking. Blabbering, more accurately. Or gossiping, even. Earlier when they danced, none of them really needed to talk, well, except introducing themselves, but that was no problem, they didn't have to hold a conversation. Because Elisa was bad, if not horrible, at holding an interesting conversation.

Typically, a person would ask Elisa questions about her, and despite herself, she would only manage to answer with a few, short, words. I hope I wouldn't have to be in that kind of awkward situation with Kaitlyn and Emily! They'll think so bad of me!

However, since Elisa had no idea what else they could do in the short time of their interclass, she nodded and said in a voice she wished to be cheerful, "All your ideas sound great! We could just take a stroll in the corridors..."

Sure! I'm fine with that! :)

The young, shy Slytherin smiled at her two companions. She rather enjoyed her time with Emily and Elisa. Sadly, the thought of impending classes did spoil the mood ever so slightly. Yet, she was still buoyed by the happiness she had just exhibited. She was not normally a forward girl, and liked to keep to herself a lot. The fact that she even proposed the idea of dancing together was a shift in her train of thought. ‘I hope they’re willing to hang out after our classes. I know I won’t mind the extra bonding time,’ she thought.

Emily proposed an alternate idea. Indeed, with classes coming soon for them, they’d likely have to keep whatever talking they did to a shorter side. Elisa also agreed with Emily’s suggestion. Kaitlyn nodded her head in agreement. “Ok, I’m fine with it, too,” she smiled. She thought for a few seconds before adding to the proposal. “Maybe we can walk down to the ground floor together?” She proposed. She knew that Elisa and her might need to run to the Slytherin Common Room. She realized that they never asked Emily for her house, but she assumed that would be fine. Rather, she hoped it was fine. She was not the best at socializing. But, with these two girls, she’d do her best.
