Axyen and Emiline shook hands for around two to five seconds before Axyen broke the handshake, letting his hand fall to his side again. Lily, whom Axyen greeted just a few seconds ago confirmed his thoughts, that they had indeed competed against each other in a match of Gobstones and later down the road met again in the Forbidden Forest . . . 'Wait what?!' Axyen thought to himself in horror. 'That's nothing you can just go around casually saying!' Axyen wondered why Lily would say that so casually, did she not fear detention or anything of the type? Well, probably not, considering how casually it was mentioned. "W-well I can confirm we had a Gobstones match, but I-I never been in the Forbidden F-forest before." Axyen said, his sudden stuttering made him want to disappeared into the Forbidden Forest. He probably sounded suspicious, who stutters like that all of a sudden? And he just now noticed he was maintaining perfect eye contact with.... the floor. That definitely would not help his case in any way, shape, or form, at least that's what he imagined. But sometimes miracles happened, and the most he could do was hope for a miracle right now. Maybe nobody would care, but Axyen didn't want to risk it, especially since it was unnecessary to even be brought up. He decided to hope that Lily got the hint and didn't mention the forest encounter again. Emiline suddenly called Axyen, which of course got his attention and he turned to face her, Emiline then stated that she was going to go ahead and grab some of the food which AngelFyre had set up for this party. "Okay!" Axyen said, it felt natural to say, like the words came out of his mouth with no actual thought behind it. It was the equivalent to being on auto-pilot, but there was nothing else he needed to add to his statement.

Then everyone began to wish Simon a happy birthday, which of course Axyen decided to do himself, but his voice probably got hidden among the other, much louder voices wishing Simon a happy birthday. Axyen didn't want to be too loud, but now he was wondering if perhaps he was too quiet, which he most-likely was too quiet, but Axyen decided there was nothing about it that he could do.

Simon was clearly onto her... or onto the fact that something was up, but AngelFyre still felt it was a success, even if the surprise may have been a minor one. He was smiling and looked happy and that was all that she cared about in the end. Besides, she knew that the surprise party itself was not the real surprise here today, so her true success still lay ahead and on that subject she knew he had no idea about what to expect. They had been together long enough that he knew she was always planning something, so that element of surprise was long gone, for good or bad. Now it would forever be just a question of his knowing something was coming, but never quite knowing what.

She was gratified that his friends had shown up, and she knew for a fact that Simon was pleased. The boy thrived on interactions with people. She felt him squeeze her hand three times and then he headed into the group of well wishers. He was bringing her with him, being her gallant, people-shield guardian, God love him, but it was still early and she was not nearly bordering on social energy depletion... yet. Besides, she wanted a space for he and his friends to connect. It was just about that time that Woofy made his grand entrance and tossed his bag of lemon drops to Simon, and some line about them being almost as sweet as a kiss.

AngelFyre smiled widely and could not help herself. "They ARE just as sweet as a kiss, Colin, me lad, when delivered correctly. Apparently you have much to learn on the subject," and she arched her eyebrow at him which was accompanied by a smirk before turning to make her way over to her enchanted radio, stationed safely near the skate ladder.

As she twisted the dial to the 'On' position, she smiled to herself. She and Simon had a running joke that each and every time they did turn it on they prayed that it would not be playing polka music or country and western. So far they had been lucky, and this afternoon was no different. She was nowhere near an aficionado of the magical world’s bands, but this sounded quite a lot to her like The Weird Sisters. In her estimation, whoever they were, polka music may have been preferable, but she knew a lot of kids at the school liked them, so it just was what it was. It was just on for background music anyway, so she turned it down to something just above white noise levels.

When she looked up, she noticed Kim over at the fondue station, alone, and for a split second thought to go over to him but almost immediately recognized what a galactically bad idea that would be, especially since Bailey was not even with him. At least she had set up different food stations so he could escape people as was his wont to do. No, best to leave him be and let him engage when or if he chose to do so. It crossed AngelFyre’s mind, given the miserable look on his face, he may just slip out and away anyway when he thought no one would notice.

Sigh.

It was hard to help a friend that just really did not seem to wish to be helped. She did consider Kim a friend, but they were not confidantes. Anything she may wish to do for him would be nothing but presumptuous, and that would not do. She instead quickly made her way back over to Colin.

"Hey, Woofy. Since Clair is not yet here, I am wondering if your focus could extend beyond missing her for the moment," and she nudged his shoulder with an eye-rolling smile because he knew darned good and well that she was as bad, if not worse, when away from Simon, "to answering something about Kim? I know you two were very close once upon a time, but he seems to be withdrawing from practically everyone and everything this year," and AngelFyre motioned her head in the direction of Bailey, standing practically on the other side of the crowd from where Kim stood, now eating a chocolate covered cronut. "And therein lies Exhibit One." She then looked back to Colin. "Do we need to be worried? Worried about him in particular? He seems to me to have been down, way down, for far too long. And if we do need to be worried, do you think there is anything that can... or should... be done?"

Her eyes were fixed on Colin, but she was aware in the background behind him that Simon was laughing, and that snapped her back to the focus of this little gathering. "I just want it on your radar; not looking for hard answers on the Kim situation now. We can discuss it later, perhaps? Toooodaaay , or the next couple of hours at least, is all about that one," and she smiled at her handsome Hufflepuff and waved. "We will speak later on the other. Go. Be social or get something to eat or both! There is a veritable feast of delights around you. I am certain there has to be something that would whet even your appetite. Besides, you will need your strength and wits about you for what comes next, unless you left your best on the Quidditch field and Race track the last couple of days?" she teased him.

AngelFyre smirked at him before bumping his shoulder again and then left Colin to be Colin as she happily headed over to where she had stashed her enchanted satchel. She reached down and gathered the maps she had made to hand out to everyone. The maps pinpointed the placement of the large bubbles sitting out on the frozen lake. This would become important as the Big Reveal would soon be made.

She walked over to a fallen tree not far from the gifts area and stepped up on it. There was a bit of a bounce as the trunk absorbed her weight and the snow resting upon it fluttered up and then fell from the boughs like crystalline powdered sugar. Carefully but confidently, AngelFyre made her way up the trunk about 10-12 steps, just enough to get a safe foothold and still be high enough so that everyone would be able to see and hear her easily. The trunk was on somewhat of an incline as it had fallen, for whatever reason, but did not make it all the way to the ground as the top third of it had been caught up in branches of another nearby tree.

AngelFyre cleared her throat. “May I have everyone’s attention, please?” Those closest to her, the ones at the food displays, heard her and turned towards her. Those mulling around the larger group with Simon had not heard her at all, so she tucked the maps under her arm and then cupped her hands around her mouth and spoke louder and a little more forcefully, repeating what she had just said. That did the trick. Excellent.

Simon swiveled his head at the sound of her voice and she enjoyed seeing him look for her at eye level before finally landing his sights on her. When his eyes scanned up to where she actually was, he looked surprised to see her standing on the fallen tree trunk, but a curious grin was spreading across his face as he moved in her direction to see what his girl was up to now.

“First, I want to thank you all for coming. I know I appreciate it and I am sure Simon does as well. Even though we have gathered to surprise him and celebrate his 15th birthday, today’s biggest surprise is not just for him. I hope everyone brought their skates because I have planned a Paint Ball match, but with a twist,” And she directed everyone’s attention out to the lake and all of the large bubbles resting out there.

There was some murmuring amongst the crowd, and she smiled as she heard people now reasoning out why she had asked them not to wear blue, black, or gold. "No one is obligated to participate, of course, but if you should like to, there will be two teams; a Blue team and a Gold Team. Participants will all be given a Super Soaker, similar to this one,” and she reached down effortlessly while maintaining her balance like the good gymnast she once was, and grabbed the Super Soaker that she had tied to the back of the trunk. She held it up so they could all see it.

“These have been modified to shoot streams of colored soap paint, so no one should worry that their beautiful clothing will be ruined as a simple Scourgify should clear all colored remnants away.” And on that point, AngelFyre wanted to make eye contact with Charlie, but that would likely be perceived as a passive aggressive challenge to the second year, so she instead turned her attention to Lily, Linda, and Bailey and their beautiful ensembles while offering all three a reassuring smile. She put the Super Soaker back on the branch and then reached into her pocket to grab a handful of the paint soap beads and showed them first the navy blue and then the gold. "These will be what you add to the water reservoirs. You are hearing me say soap, but the colors are very saturated as you can see. There will be no question as to whether you were hit or not with one when all is said and done."

“So, this is how it is going to go. I have a sign up sheet over by the skate ladder. I need those who wish to play to sign up for the Blue or the Gold team. The Rules are listed on the form, but I will recite them here anyway, so that everyone is not standing over there reading while people try to sign up.”

She moved the Rules from the bottom of the maps pile she was holding in her hands to the top and scanned them quickly.

1. “This is a magic free zone. Points are scored only through use of the Super Soakers, so NO wands allowed. If you use a wand, you are out of the game.

2. When you have been hit 3 times by the opposing team, you are also considered to be out of the game.

3. The Bubbles on the lake were cast with the Bullarum Immortalem. Because Super Soakers instead of wands are being used, the Bubbles can withstand 3 direct hits before bursting. They have been Epoximised to stay in place, so you cannot move them, nor should you try. Respect their placement on the field of battle, please.

4. Some Bubbles, once burst, may regenerate. There is no way for you to tell which Bubbles will do this, so do not waste too much of your time worrying about it. These regenerated Bubbles have not been Epoximised and may therefore either stay in place or be physically manipulated by any of you around the field. They, however, are weaker than their predecessors and will burst after a single hit. They will not regenerate again.

5. You get three action costs per round. An action can be any of the moves listed below singly, OR a combination of “a” and “b”: Aiming, Skating, Pushing or Aiming/Skating.

a. Aiming a maximum of 3 shots from your Super Soaker per round, at one person or more, within a 6 space limit in cardinal (North, South, East, West) directions and a 3 space limit diagonally – COST: 1 move (if used in combo) or 3 moves (if used singly)

b. Skating to another Bubble for cover or just to an empty space up to 5 spaces in any direction, including diagonally - COST: 2 moves

c. Pushing a regenerated Bubble, at most, 3 spaces, in any cardinal direction. You may not move a Bubble diagonally – COST: Always 3 moves

d. Aiming /Skating – Aiming triggers first in Order of Operation and has a Cost of 1 move in this scenario while Skating triggers second and has a Cost of 2 moves

e. No more than 4 people may occupy a square at any one time, and only members of the same team can occupy the same square.

6. Last team standing wins and all team members, even those knocked out, will receive 5 chocolate frogs each, plus all of you, whether you win or not, may keep your Super Soakers for future fun. If you missed 2 or more postings, you will not be eligible for the chocolate frogs, but you may still keep your Super Soaker.”

“I know this was a lot, but are there any questions?” AngelFyre silenced herself and waited. No one spoke up, at least not then. “I will pass out maps once everyone who wants to play has signed up. If you forget anything I just told you, the rules are also written on the back of the maps.”

“The only two things I ask when signing up is to please let the birthday boy choose what color team he wishes to be on first and then try to keep team numbers as balanced as possible. It will be first come/first serve. So good luck everyone and have fun! Those knocked out can feel free to come back here and eat and drink and be merry!”

The hot cocoa tasted felt wonderful on a cold February day. I saw Simon coming along the path towards his Surprise Birthday Party.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIMON!" I clapped and cheered in sync with the other guests. Like any other Birthday Party we started by welcoming the birthday boy. The voice of AngelFyre made me jump. I turned around to see her on top of a fallen tree. What's going on?

A paintball match! I liked paintball. I played it once or twice in the muggle world. It was a great way to get rid of the stress I've been having lately with Broom Races and Quidditch Matches. Then came the twist. It was gonna be on skates! I was thinking about a relaxing skating session with me trying to figure out how it works and trying to not fall over. How am I supposed to do that when I've got people with super soakers shooting at me? I wasn't sure if the other guests were having similar thoughts to me.
"Do you know how to skate?" I asked a boy next to me half ignoring AngelFyre explaining the rules. Ohh well at least we got to keep the super soakers. I have the perfect person on who to use that on.

Simon's smile spread far and wide, AngelFyre noted with a good deal of glee, as she revealed her big surprise. As for everyone else, it was a mixed bag of reactions. Colin, of course, was in at the beginning; that was no surprise at all. It was also no surprise to her that Kim did not make his way over to sign up, but what did surprise her was that he did not leave the gathering altogether. That was progress as far as she was concerned. Most happily of all AngelFyre watched as Bailey signed up, even without Kim. While she had been giving her lonnnng spiel standing up on the tree trunk, she did hear someone murmur... she thought it may have been Alejandro, but she was not completely certain... a concern about knowing how to skate. She had considered such things when coming up with this plan and figured there could be some advantages to not knowing how to skate, depending upon, of course, how mercenary (or not) the teams decided to be. Either way, it was all going to be good fun for everyone she hoped.

As folks made their way over to the sign up sheet, Simon stayed put. His smile was still as wide as ever, but his eyes had a very playful glint sparkling within. She reached her hand out for him to help steady her as she made her way back down the tree trunk, not that she needed the help really, but she did love to take every opportunity to hold the boy's hand. So she was more than a bit crestfallen when he shook his head no at the proffered hand and instead stepped a little off to the side. In all the time she had known him, this was the first time he had ever refused to take her hand. Her heart would have dropped right to her stomach in those moments but for the fact that no sooner had he brushed off her hand with a nod than he opened his arms, indicating she could just fall into them. "I can't wait that long to hold you, so please don't make me," and his grin grew even wider.

Well, now. That was even better than her hand-holdng idea. Romance point definitely goes to Mr. Kincaid for that one. "Express route to Happiness now departing," she chimed and did a graceful pirouette before falling safely and securely into his arms, laughing softly upon landing. He did not set her down immediately, but just held her close, rubbing his colder than normal nose against her colder than normal nose, before pressing his lips to hers. She could have happily lived in that moment forever. When he pulled back, he said nothing... aloud... but simply looked into her eyes, which really said everything.

"Happy Birthday, love." she whispered and squeezed him tightly. Happy, happy birthday."

Ten minutes later, those who wanted to participate had signed up but the teams were not even. AngelFyre had not signed up because as moderator, she thought it would not be fair, but Simon was having none of it. He wanted her to play, and he wanted her on HIS team. After she put it out there to everyone that the birthday boy wished for her to play, she asked if that would be okay, promising that she would not be part of any strategizing. Much to her relief, everyone graciously agreed, so she made the announcements as to who was on what team, and everyone began to scramble to get their skates on and get into their huddles to strategize.

Before putting her own skates on, she made her way around to those who had opted not to participate and made sure they were all comfortable and told them to feel free to change the channel on the radio, or make their own music if they so desired. Food and drink was plentiful and conversation could be as well while spectating. Their fun would be up to them for a little bit, but there was the promise of devil's food cake, lemon cake, or angel's food cake, in the shape of a dragon, at the end of the match if they stuck around and a VERY big candle that she knew would gobsmack each and every one of them, including the birthday boy himself.

The Rules - OOC: Please read

Owl Me

Sign-Up: Tell me what team you want to sign up for and I will put your name on the sign up form. Everyone has to owl me with their choice of team. You cannot have someone send your choice in for you. Also tell me what space you want to occupy on the map, and if you will be doing so singly or with other team mates. First come first serve, so if you end up on a team different than what you asked for, it is because your chosen team filled up. There are 6 slots on each team.

When the teams are finalized, I will owl everyone and let them know what team they are on and where everyone is on the board. For the very first round only, any of you may send in requests to start the match off from any square of your choice. The range limitations to movements will not kick in until Round 2, but STR rolls for the same square kick in immediately.

When teams are finalized, you should at that point start making your entry posts and send me your actions for the 1st round, but feel free to post in thread before then if you would like to.

Moderation: Will occur once a week. All site and role playing rules apply. Each post should be a minimum of 200 words. I will be moderating and this is an unofficial game, obviously.

There will be 5 Rounds max, not including the entry round. If it is not over by 5th round, the team with the most members standing will be declared victorious. If there are an equal number of players standing at the end from both teams, the team with the least number of hits will prevail. IF there is Still a tie at that point, a die roll on a 6 sided die will be done to choose Blue or Gold. An even number will go to Blue Team as the victors while an odd number will mean Gold came out victorious.

Missed Posts: . Failure to post twice will have you removed from play and make you ineligible for any reward if your team wins, but you are still welcome at the party.

Order of Operations: Aiming will always take precedence in Order of Operations, even if you choose the Aiming/Skating combo. Skating and Pushing follow second.

Actions and Naming your Targets: If more than one person is behind a Bubble, tell me who you are targeting and the number of hit(s) you are Aiming at them. The Bubble will be presumed to take the hits first. If it breaks, that is when the rolls will begin on the player(s).

The Action protocols should look similar to these examples when you owl me your moves:

1. Aiming for AF in square 2H with 2 hits and Simon in square 2H with 1 hit, Or

2. Skating from space 5G to 1C, Or

3. Pushing Bubble from 1I to 1G, Or

4. Aiming for Colin in square 4E with 1 hit / Lily and Emiline Skating from 3D to 5B

Game Mechanics: Only 1 team color may occupy a square, so if 2 or more opposing team members break for the same square, a STR roll will be done. Example: if 2 people from Team Blue and 2 people from Team Gold try for the same square, the victor will be determined on the STR roll only between the member from each team on the square with highest Strength stat. Winner gets the square and the vanquished members will be positioned 2 squares back from the direction they came, which may or may not have a Bubble. If that space is already occupied, there will be no STR roll and you will be moved another 1 square back in the same direction you were traveling.

If a STR roll has to take place in the very first round, the direction everyone will be assumed to be coming from is this party site, which is South on your map.

I want to simplify this as much as possible, and so hit determinations are simply going to be asking Tatsu to pick one: yes or no. It kind of equalizes everyone out there, like it or not.

Abilities, like your wands, will not help you here.

Each time a Bubble bursts, I will simply roll a 6 sided die to see of it regenerates. A roll of 1-2 means yes. A roll of 3-6 means no. A regenerated Bubble will also be subject to a slight breeze and may float away on its own. Every regenerated Bubble will have a yes or no roll to see if floats away or not at the end of every round.

Once a regenerated Bubble is abandoned by any single player or team, it will be assumed to have floated away and is no longer active on the map.

Axyen's ears perked up when AngelFyre called for the attention of everybody, which Axyen looked at AngelFyre, curious to listen to what she was about to say. It of course, always sort of had him anticipating and trying to predict what announcement would be, perhaps it was mentioned in the invitation? Axyen forgot, well, he would figure it out soon enough he supposed. AngelFyre started with thanking everybody for coming to Simon's birthday party, Axyen learned that Simon was the age of fifteen, how did this information help him? He didn't know, but perhaps it could help him think of a gift for next year. The odd part was that the surprise AngelFyre wasn't just for Simon, was Axyen seriously forgetting something here...? As soon as AngelFyre mentioned skates, it was like a lightbulb went off in Axyen's head. That also explains why he brought skates(which he asked his parents for), now of course he read a book or two about skating, and so Axyen had enough confidence to at least try to move around and play. They were all going to be playing a paintball match, that seemed like fun. There were two teams, a blue team and a gold team. Axyen like blue better, but he wanted to join the gold team because... he actually didn't know, he just wanted to try something 'different' which was not picking the closest thing to his favorite color, but the more he thought about it, the more his reasoning didn't make sense. Well, he'd stick with it, he didn't have a problem with being on any of the teams, as long as he had a good time.

AngelFyre began to go over the rules, when suddenly a boy next to him asked Axyen if he knew how to skate. "Oh me? No... not really." Axyen said, he read a few books so as long as he stick to what the books said he should be fine. Still that was a lot of hoping and Axyen never even tried skating before, so this was definitely going to be a new experience. However, Axyen was mostly scared that he was going to slip and fall, and then somebody would laugh, and then another person, and then even more people would join in on the laughter. That realistically probably wouldn't happen, but still, it'd feel pretty embarrassing nonetheless, so Axyen was really hoping that he was a natural at skating. 'I should stop worrying, I got this, just have confidence... Just have confidence...' Axyen thought to himself, he decided to reply to the boy that asked Axyen if he skated before. "....Um, do you happen to know how to skate?" Axyen asked. "I'm Axyen by the way." Axyen said, extending his right hand for a handshake. 'At least I didn't stutter...' Axyen thought to himself, he was actually pretty happy about that. 'I am actually starting to get pretty good at speaking... I think.' Axyen thought to himself, feeling pleased with the progress he has made since last summer.

Axyen was trying to talk and listen to AngelFyre at once, don't use magic felt pretty self-explanatory, three hits your out, there were bubbles that according to AngelFyre, could only be hit three times and are unable to be moved. Axyen could already think of creative ways to use those bubbles to his advantage, either way, it was time to sign up and let the fun begin! Axyen put on his skates and stood up, he was actually very nervous. Axyen shakily stood up and began to walk onto the ice, he nearly slipped as soon as he even touched the ice, he stepped back and then tried again, this time remembering what books have taught him in the duration of the day. He moved slowly, but hey he was moving... He was scared of falling down at any moment, he felt like he was going to fall at any moment, but he was ready to play and he was sure he was going to fall at any given moment. He actually felt like he wouldn't completely mess up if he just didn't forget what he learned from the books, he might get a bit of confidence in his skating abilities.

Bailey smiled as AF rushed over to greet her and Kim. "I'm super happy to see you too, AF - everything looks so amazing!!!" Her present on the stack, bailey smiled at AF' comment. "These are actually some pastries, traditional polish ones along with some other tasty treats, that my Busia* made and sent me! I have another box i was going to share with Kim later, but I figured you and Simon could enjoy this one!"

Bailey glanced at Kim when she mentioned sharing some of the treats with him, hoping for some sort of response. She smiled to herself when he licked his lips, glad to see a little peak at 'old' kim again.
Looking back up, she spotted @Emma Wynn waving at her. Bailey smiled, happy to see her friend, and waved back. i really need to catch up with Emma too.. so many friends i've been neglecting lately
AF's smile grew and bailey's did as well. She was feeling lighter already, at the opportunity to be happy with friends, and to be a kid again.
Laughing when AF called her and Kim the 'culinary experts of Hogwarts' because she realized how true it was. Bailey and Kim's love of food was how they bonded (besides the fact that she and kim had been paired as owl pals back in the beginning) and they each were experts on loving food (and making it too )
Bailey let out another little laugh when AF mentioned lils introducing her to anyone she didn't already know and said "thank you AF - this looks wonderful!"
After AF went to greet Linda, Kim, removing his hand from hers, said he'd check the food out after simon arrived. Nodding her head, bailey's eyes unconsciously tracked kim's hand as it tucked a piece of hair behind his ear.

Bailey spotted Simon and AF coming, and she gleefully joined in the shouting of "S U R P R I S E ! ! !

Bailey let out a little giggle watching @Colin McCoire joining the group. She thought she overheard him mention @Clair Fernandez, which she was not surprised at. Her dear Coco was in love, and she didn't blame him. Clair was perfect for him, and she wished them both all the happiness in the world
Noticing then that Kim was gone from her side, she looked around and found him at the food table.
Smiling sadly, she started a little when the second year griffindor she believed was named Linda asked if she could stand with her. "ahh yes of course!!! you're linda, right?"

A few minutes later, AF called for everyone's attention which bailey gave her, watching with interest and curiosity.
Nodding her head as AF explained, bailey was glad she chose not to wear a dress. Walking over, she signed herself up on the Blue team (for house pride ofc).
Sitting down, bailey took her bag off of her shoulder and grabbed her skates. Taking off her boots and replacing them with the skates, bailey stood up. Looking around she spotted Coco and Lils together, and knowing they were on the same team she made her way over to them.
"are y'all ready to win?" she asked with a michevious grin, excited to be on the ice. It had been a little while since she had skated, but bailey knew she could trust her balance and skills from taekwondo to help a little.
After discussing strategy a little with coco, lils, and the 4th member of their team, @Alejandro Garcia, bailey was all ready for the game!
