─────Elodie tilted her head, sensing the tension in the air and flinching. Ah, dangit! She'd made it awkward. Think, Elodie, think! She closed her eyes, going through their conversation in her head before deciding to fixate on the girl's statement about snakes, taking a deep breath before speaking.
"Ah, I see. Snakes are great! Hey, did you see this? There are all these cool types of snakes in the magical community!" She said, reaching for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, flipping it open and studying the pages, already having read the words over and over again, providing her a slight sense of comfort. "There's this snake thingy called a Runsespoor, and it's got THREE HEADS!" Her eyes gleamed with excitement as she turned the book so that Noa-Elise could see the picture on the page, the scaly body with three pairs of eyes staring out from the page, three triangular heads all with varying expressions sketched on their faces.
"Apparently, those people you were talking about, Parselmouths, we only know about what those heads are like because of their writings on conversations with them, so clearly they can't be ALL bad! Anyways, so, the left one is the planner, and it decides where to go an' what to do an' stuff. The middle one is the dreamer, and like, apparently Runespoors can stay stationary for DAYS, lost in daydreams an' stuff, which can make it hard to protect them from muggles like that, given their scales, which are bright orange with black stripes. The right one is the critic. Apparently, it's constantly judging the other two, always hissing! Its fangs are also incredibly venomous, though the book doesn't say anything about the other two, so I'm guessing they aren't."
"Sometimes, you'll even see a Runespoor that's missing a whole HEAD, since the left and middle will often team up to get rid of the right one. Can you believe it? Biting off one of your own HEADS? Although, I guess it wouldn't be considered their OWN head, since they're got three different brains an' personalities an' stuff. I wonder how that works. Do you think all three of them have to work together to move and hunt and take care of hatchlings? I bet that'd be hard!" Elodie's eyes sparkled with joy, her cheeks flushed with excitement and joy before seeming to remember herself.
"Ah, sorry. I'm a huge nerd, and magical creatures are just so FASCINATING." She looked away, biting her lip nervously. "Slytherin, huh? That's cool. I like their colors, reminds me of my mum's herbal garden in winter, when all the bright green leaves are covered with a silver frost."
She felt embarrassment creep up in her chest, flashing back to memories of being teased for her rambling nature, the way she got so excited over things that were so mediocre to others. Why couldn't she do anything right?
"Uhm... Do... You have a favorite snake...?"
