Rebecca Wins
This was it. There was no doubt about it. It happened in mere seconds; a blink and you could miss it.

Raizel's spells were always quite hard-hitting, but it wasn't enough to knock Rebecca down with her. Sometimes, a Flipendo wasn't always the cure to everything. Rebecca, on the other hand, pulled out what would be her last Tarantallegra of the day as the force of the spell knocked Raizel right to the ground. No dancing feet at all, just a heap on the floor.

"STOP!" Alyssea yelled, maybe a little too late. She ran towards Raizel while taking her aspen wand from her robe pocket. Desperate times call for desperate measures and despite messing it up the first time, she was determined to undo some of the damage.

With a little ring above Raizel's body, Alyssea whispered, "Reparifors."
Alyssea casts Reparifors; WDC 11
Alyssea wis [d20 : 9] + 8 = 17, success
Outcome: Raizel regains 50+6*10 = 110 HP, [110/600]
The purple light washed over her and Alyssea sighed in relief. It worked this time, thankfully.

"Hey Rai," Alyssea said gently. She had never called Raizel that before, but she hoped the Gryffindor wouldn't mind the nickname. "You still in there? We should get you to the hospital wing."

Alyssea turned to Rebecca. "I'll admit, some pretty smart moves, but now we got a casualty. Mind helping?"

She just lost didn't she?

Raizel didn't get to see what happened to that last Knockback Jinx she fired, whether it had hit or not but really, does it matter at this point? The spell from her opponent hit her. What that spell was, she doesn't know, she didn't get to see its effect either as everything just faded into black, exhaustion finally kicking in as the adrenaline settled down. That left her lying on that piste, hurting but not just physically.

How is she going to recover from this one? Sure, she had managed to keep going back up to her feet but that's starting to get tiring for her. She could barely count any duel that went her way for goodness sake and that was slowly eating her up inside despite how much she tries to mask it with that happy-go-lucky attitude of hers. It would've been fine really. Loses are nothing to her. If only she didn't meet her, if only she didn't hear those words then her views, her goals, wouldn't have changed.

A pained groan escaped her, feeling something soothing, the pain slowly lessening. She opened her eyes but everything was still a blur and all she heard that time was someone calling out to her. Where is she? Right, probably the dueling club. She tried moving, using her returned strength to get up but it was a struggle. She kept her gaze low, wanting to get those emotions out of her system first before she could face any of the people. "That was… intense." She uttered, letting out a weak chuckle. Forced, pained but it's the only way. "Hospital wing sounds good right now." She added with soft laugh at the end.

𝓡aizel's Flipendo hit her like a cannonball to the chest, pushing her back a couple of feet. She was pretty sure she was cursed to spend this entire duel breathless and winded, as the combination of the older girl's Ventus and Flipendo had left both her chest and lungs aching. Despite the physcial and mental exhaustion she was undergoing, however, it was clear that Raizel was in much worse shape. She gathered her bearings and looked up to see if her spell had hit, only for a sick lurch to go through her stomach at the sight of Raizel at the other end of the pitch, not dancing as intended but rather crumpled up on the floor in a tiny, flame-singed heap.

God, dueling was awful. Even with Bex being a beater, whose literal job it was to knock people off their brooms, didn't make this any easier to see. Dueling felt more intimate than Quidditch by far, and Bex was pretty certain now that she just didn't have the taste for it.

As Alyssea rushed over to the fallen Gryffindor, Bex quickly followed after, fear leaving a sour taste in her mouth. Had they gone too far? Raizel wasn't moving and the terror filling her veins with ice only abated once Alyssea had cast an unfamiliar healing spell on the Gryffindor duelist, which thankfully put her into a little bit better shape. Bex could only sigh with relief.

Once it was clear that Raizel was out of the woods, Alyssea turned to Bex and said, "I'll admit, some pretty smart moves, but now we got a casualty. Mind helping?" And wasn't that funny: Bex had assumed that she would have been the one on the floor, and knew that it was really only down to luck that she wasn't. Raizel had used spells that Bex had never even heard of, let alone know how to cast herself. Meanwhile Bex knew two total dueling spells. So it was less "smart moves" and more... well, she wasn't sure exactly.

She couldn't so much as cast Lumos in class, but somehow hadn't failed to cast even a single time in her first duel? It didn't make any sense. She didn't have time to puzzle it out, though, as Raizel clearly needed to see the school nurse (and probably Bex as well, if she was being honest with herself) and she probably wasn't going to be able to get herself there.

Raizel wouldn't even look at them while she was talking, keeping her gaze low instead. "That was… intense. Hospital wing sounds good right now."

Bex nodded and crouched down, putting Raizel's arm around her shoulders to make it easier on her as she helped the Gryffindor to her feet. "Intense is a good word for it. C'mon, let's go to the hospital wing, then."
Action: Thank you both for a fantastic duel! There's no two people I'd have rather had my first duel with. Leaving this thread and moving to the Hospital Wing now, so long as we're all done here.

-----
It had been two weeks since Avery had last duelled in this place, it had been a crushing defeat by the wands of the Ravenclaws. Two of their team were his seniors, one of which he had fought before. Beatrice Langstreth was a capable and formidable duellist, Avery had gone toe to toe with her within his first year only for her to win in the last round. His latest duel saw him paired against her and her upperclassman Samantha. Slytherin held their own, and he teetered on the edge of consciousness by the end of it. It was a hard fought battle, and arguably they had lasted so long only because of the mistakes of their opponents. This was his first real loss, and in response he did what he did after every duel, he spent even more time in the fourth floor duelling club.

He had already spent the morning here, he taken a break for lunch and made his way back only to find an odd sight. Raizel Voltrouz and some curly-haired frizz-monster were commanding the attention of the room. Avery prowled the edges of the room, after he entered, avoiding the attention of others that the sound of the doors usually summoned. He rather liked it, mainly because he would rather exist in an echo chamber of his own design and choosing than suffer the presence of others; the unotables, but also because a lack of attention on the door meant that there was some meat on the piste, being torn apart. If the duel was good enough, very few would manage to peel their eyes. Lo and behold, there was meat, and a lion.

Avery moved to the bleachers with little care for those sat where he often took up residence; tossing his leather duffle to the bench and opting to stand; to the annoyance of a spectator or two who shuffled to see the piste better. It was the very start of the duel, he reckoned, the pair had each hit their spell but Raizel took the worst of it as fire began to catch. Avery had duelled Raizel, who herself fought alongside Beatrice; she had a decent mentor and she was gaining notoriety; she had even made the Gryffindor House team. Raizel was one to watch, he knew that from his first day at Hogwarts; what he didn’t know was who was going toe to toe with her.

He’d seen Frizz-Monster before, or at least students like her. Abject terror towards those opposite, to the very wands they held. This looked remarkably similar; and it often made for terrible duels. His instinct was right, as several volleys were fired from either side and missed. Loathsome, what precious seconds had he lost observing this instead of practicing on the dark-wizard training dummies at the other end of the hall.

It was jarring, when someone interrupted an automatic pattern; a function you were already committed to. Avery had reached for his bag to root out his meagre wand, a rare occasion he didn’t have a sleeve sheath, when the corner of his dark eyes caught the pair trading blows again. Now that wasn’t a coincidence. He straightened his tall back from its bowed stoop, eyes on the pair as one of his hands brushed a disobedient strand of his growing hair from his face before it idly rested an inch from his chin; elbow propped up on his other arm he had absentmindedly crossed over his chest. Frizz-Monster made the shot precisely when she needed too; a gust of wind about to take her; slinging a common spell but at an impressive speed at the perfect time for Raizel to least expect it coming her way.

Was it luck? Time would tell, and thus he continued his observation.

His thin lips twisted as she blasted Raizel with an Incendio; having bought enough time to steady herself from the Ventus by making the lion dance. There was a strategem at play, he could see it now just as the duel was coming to its crescendo. He hadn’t realised the corner of his lips had curled into a violence-loving smirk, eager for more. The fire that reflected in his eyes as the jet of flame traversed the piste remained there; less a desire for hurt but more the love of spellcasting, of the thrill when one commanded magic to do terrific and terrifying things. It always begged the question as to which it was, but he was thrilled all the same at the second.

Avery took in a big breath through his nose as he watched the last moments of the duel, an accomplished reprieve. His expectations were rarely wrong, and this had him positively enraptured as he watched a simple dancing jinx batter Raizel to the ground. Of course, she herself had launched a devastating blow but in the end it was only impressive if the other guy went down and stayed down; which is exactly what Raizel did.

The ensuing fuss immediately lost his attention, why was everyone always so dramatic about these things? Was he not in the duelling room? Perhaps next they should offer teas, scones and biscuits or better yet, pad the walls. Tragic. - He took another glance at the victor, trying his best to size her up; make a story for her and commit her face to memory. She wasn’t gloating, she wasn’t looking at all like she was impressed with herself; in fact she looked like she hated it. If there was anything he knew this year, it was hate; a learned behaviour that could be honed into a fuel, a weapon. That’s how he did it.

After retrieving his wand so that he could begin his practice, he made for the other end of the room; ensuring that his path took him by the piste; on Bex’s side.

“A damn good duel. I’d daresay you were made for it.” He gave with a charming smile, intending the genuine compliment to set her off-guard, interrupt the natural pattern and rhythm that she was already in. It needed to be enough to cut through everything she felt at the second, to ensure the message landed. If she seemed to react positively, he’d bite his lip as if to suppress a grin as he regarded an out-of-it Raizel. His eyes inviting mystery.

Avery didn’t stay to chat, and thus there was no closure.
