Madi had never really been interested in balls. Balls required formal attire, and dresses didn't make her feel like, well, her. But there was a Murder Mystery game, and Madi was interested in that, and she knew she would be disappointing her mother if she didn't attend at least one ball. So she had made the decision to go.
"Where's your dress? Where's the hair ties?" Madi's mother asked, bustling around her room, pulling open drawers and looking through the cabinets. Madi put down the book she was reading. "My dress is in the living room, where you ironed it about a million times last night, and the hair ties are on my bedside table." Madi told her. Even though her mother wasn't attending this ball with Madi, she wanted to make sure everything was absolutely perfect. She ran out to the living room to get the dress, gave it to Madi, and then grabbed the hairties. She left the room and Madi put on the dress, and then returned to do her hair. After her mother was satisfied with it, they went down to the kitchen.
"I can't believe my daughter is going to her first ball and I'm missing it!" Her mother said tearfully. Madi tried not to roll her eyes. "It's going to be full of witches and wizards. I'll tell you about it when I get home." Madi promised.
Ten minutes later, after her mother had wrestled her into high-heels, it was time for Madi to leave. She didn't even know if she could walk in these things. She was already uncomfortable enough wearing a dress, the heels just added to that. Besides, Madi was already 5'4, she didn't need anymore height. Luckily, her mother had picked ones that were only about an inch and a half tall.
"You look beautiful, Madi." her mother said. Madi gave her a half-smile.
"I've got to go. Bye, guys." Madi said, seeing it as her cue to leave when her mother grabbed even more makeup from the side table. "Remember, be polite and don't forget to socialize!" Her mother called after her. Her father and little sister waved. Waving goodbye to her family, she grabbed ahold of her portkey and was transported to the Theramin Manor.
This is the nicest house I've ever seen. She thought. She walked inside, stumbling on her heels twice, just glad she didn't fall and that nobody saw her. She walked into the main party area. It seemed like everyone had at least one family member with them. Madi shook her head. Her parents would have hated being the only Muggles there, and she wasn't even sure they were allowed to come.
Madi recognized a few people here, but she didn't know any of them. Not well, at least.

“Are you ready Reyna?” my mother asked, “For the second ball of the summer?” No was what I wanted to say. I disliked balls. They required utter patience, frilly dresses and dancing, none of which I liked. The last ball hadn’t been so bad so maybe this one wouldn’t be either. I had heard that this one had a game of murder mystery. “I’m not ready but there isn’t really a choice is there?” I replied. My mother laughed. “You’re starting to get real wise Reyna! And anyways you sure do look ready!” she said. I looked at myself. I did look ready but…okay I guess I was ready. I followed my mother out the door, waving goodbye to my dad. We wouldn’t be late for this important ball. We hopped on our brooms, me on my new Nimbus 1700. And we flew to the Theramin Manor. The Manor was stunning. “Remember what I told you last time! Make important connections, and meet new people Reyna!” my mother reminded. I sighed and nodded my head. Then she went off to mingle. I looked around. I spotted a Ravenclaw who looked bored and lonely like me. She wasn’t talking to anyone and didn’t seem to have any adult with her. She was probably a muggleborn because of that but I didn’t care. I had no judgements and I was also bored so I decided to go up to her and talk. “Hey!” I said coming up to her, “I’m Reyna Evergreen, to be 2nd year Hufflepuff. What’s your name?” I decide not to mention that I was a half-blood and instead treated this like social time. Not make good connections time like my mother wanted. I spotted her talking to someone else. Probably a pure-blood. Well, at least I was socializing. |

Madi reached over and took a glass of water from the Theramin's house elf, who was walking by her. "Thank you." She said. Madi had always been very interested in house-elves. She'd seen a few in the Kitchens at Hogwarts, but never any others outside of it. She was mainly thinking about house-elves right then because she had nothing else to do. Why did I come to this? She thought. She knew balls weren't her thing, so why did she do it? The first answer that came up was for her mother, because her mother would have been extremely disappointed if Madi hadn't gone, but she wouldn't have made Madi go. So she didn't really know why she was there. She felt really out of place here, and wasn't sure she'd be able to honor the promise she made to her mother saying that she would socialize.
She took a sip of water and saw a brown haired girl coming toward her. She was wearing much fancier clothing and hair than Madi was. She said hello and introduced herself as a second year Hufflepuff.
"It's nice to meet you, Reyna! I'm Madi. I'm also going into my second year, and I'm in Ravenclaw." Madi smiled.

Maverick had not managed to say a word when came Odilon Wilde. Odi was Maverick's closest friend today, and he let the other boy addressed him as Maverick. While it may seem as if it was no big deal for most of his fellow English preteen, for him it was. He reserved his first given name just to people he felt very comfortable with, otherwise he would prefer to be called Castle. (Sure he might have introduced himself as Maverick to almost everyone when he was very young, but that was another story. As of today, by his own choice, he was Castle to most people.)
Therefore, even though Odi had mentioned his first given name plus his surname to the two girls standing in front of them, quickly the second year added, "Please, call me Castle." He was pleased with himself for being able to say this casually, and yet at the same time with a tone of confidence and slight authority. Not yet like a king perhaps, but he felt like young princes from rom-com films Muggle teenagers admired. Well, or so he thought he had sounded.
The four of them did not have much time to talk more, though. One of the hosts made a public invitation, and Odi tugged at Maverick's arm. "Let's follow him," he said, and Maverick had no objection to this. Especially because he did not really know what to do, either way.

After she came down she saw her brother waiting her there. He was wearing suit and crown. This time they both were looking more according to their family status. Ramirez were very wealthy, royal, pureblood family. So balls were part of their life, though their parents were not going with them this summer. Siralb and Linda were the only children in the family, so they were the heirs. Firstly it surely was her brother. Although he worked with dragons, this work was more like hobby. Just previous month they bought summer mansion in Switzerland and now got even more wealthy than already were. So on this ball Linda couldn't wear same clothes she had previous ball. They both couldn't.
After making sure they looked good, Linda and Siralb went to the Theramin mansion. Maybe it will be not bad? At least there should be Rey. Surely she is supposed to find new connections, but Li didn't really wish to do it.
Once they arrived, they came inside the mansion. It looked quite good. She knew she needs to greet the boy who arranged this ball so they decided to come to him first. Hello, my name is Siralb Ramirez. It's nice to be able to attend this ball arranged by you. Hello. My name is Linda Ramirez and Siralb is my older brother. Thank you for inviting us to this ball.
After waiting a little while getting reply if Tristan would do it they went further inside, where there already were some guests. Siralb went to talk to parents and Linda got some time on her own. She noticed Hannah and she thought she'll come to greet her friend.
Hi Hannah. How are you? Oh that sounded so official, but maybe it's because of the place where they met. After some minutes Li noticed Reyna talking to someone she didn't think she knew. Please excuse me, I need to find my brother. She surely needed to find him. Siralb probably already made some connections and now needed her to come introduce herself. But he was nowhere near, so she decided to come to Rey first.
Hello. I was hoping to see you here, Reyna. Then she turned to face the girl with whom Rey was standing. My name is Linda Ramirez. I'm second year Gryffindor in Hogwarts and daughter of Ramirez family. This was even more official but until she knew with whom she was talking, she had to keep acting according to great Ramirez family. Li couldn't afford any mistake. Not here.
