"Dad always says it's not flattery if it's true." Maisy said with a small laugh. After what she had put him through, for him to be so forgiving... He really was the best.

Biting the inside of her cheek, she looked to the water again, which blessedly remained still, no more signs of whatever had come rushing towards them. Constantine seemed a little disappointed and it was only too amusing, the difference between the two of them, "Goodness... Whatever that was, I'm glad it stopped. But scary, that. You know we're under it? Our common room. The lake is right outside our windows and some days, you can see the giant squid swim past."

Turning back to him, she laughed and shook her head, "Goodness, no. I don't imagine I could fit one. Even a baby! My friend Edric... He's a boy in my House. I met him at the start of term, when he almost hit me with a chaie. Not on purpose. But anyway... His family raises them. I'm hoping that I can see them someday. Maybe this summer. And if I'm able, I'd love you to come, too! I know how much you love all the magical creatures... And it's the least I can do after everything..."

"Really?" Constantine awed, looking into the water. He'd seen the occasional glimpse of the Giant Squid, though not enough to recall it's every detail. The boy really wanted to have a look at what lived in the lake, though doing so would be impossible without the right equipment, and potentially quite dangerous if the creatures inhabiting it were hostile. "I've heard that the Squid is fairly friendly, and that you can tickle it's tentacles if it comes close enough!" He said enthusiastically. Constantine considered the people who had done such a thing lucky, as the Squid never came too close to shore.

"I couldn't ask you to do that." The Hufflepuff dismissed, waving his hand. As much as he'd like to see them, he wouldn't put Maisy and her friend through such trouble. Besides, there was supposed to be a herd of them at Hogwarts, so it'd be much easier for everyone to visit them instead. "Though it's nice of you to offer. Anyway, I think I'm a bit busy this summer, but I'll try to make time to meet with friends." Constantine admitted. In his opinion, he had to catch up on all the work he'd missed with the Crups, however his parents had easily kept up his job whilst he was away.

"Yeah! I didn't know until my friend Cynthia pointed it out. It's a bit spooky, but I suppose it's kind of cool, too. Especially if he really is friendly... Though I can't say I'd ever wanna get that close, to find out." She recalled how easily she had fallen for stories of the fairies living in the Whomping Willow and she was considerably more hesitant now, to believe anything she was told about creatures at Hogwarts... Though Constantine would never lie to her the way that Luke and his friends had.

"And it's really no trouble! Even if Edric can't, I'd still love to see you this summer. Though I dunno if you'd be bored... At my house. It's not very exciting." She laughed softly, "We've got Pringle, and there's a farm nearby that has horses you can ride. But I think my Mum would probably cry if I brought home a Hippogriff."

It was still strange, even so far into the school year, to think about the separation between her family's world and the wizarding world. Like two different universes... And she had to exist in both.

"Christmas break was strange enough. I think summer might do me in." She added with a laugh.

"I'd have to disagree." Constantine laughed. He'd do a lot of things to see the Giant Squid properly, and even more to play with it. Although, it'd be something he'd keep to himself - the Hufflepuff wouldn't want the poor creature to suddenly be bombarded by eager students. (Though, in essence, Constantine was exactly that). "I don't know if it'd be very nice to touch, though, as it's been under the lake for goodness knows how long." He added after thinking it over.

"I'm sure it wouldn't be as boring as you describe." Constantine grinned appreciatively, happy that Maisy considered him a good enough friend to invite over. Riding the horses sounded exciting, maybe he'd rope the Slytherin into a race of some sort. "Oh, you're always welcome to visit my house, too! Monty will be there, and I can introduce you to the Crups! Just don't mind my Dad, unless you'd like to learn about his gardening skills." Constantine admitted with a chuckle. Hopefully, his parents wouldn't be too embarrassing, although he was more wary of his brother's teasing.

"I'm actually really excited to get a break. I do love it here, but I won't miss the chance to see my family for a little while. I just hope the weather stays nice." He said absentmindedly. His mum had owled him a few days ago, complaining about the rain, and how the mud had turned to slosh. It was all fun and games until you were tripped up by a group of excitable dogs, landing butt first into a particularly deep puddle.

She laughed and shook her head, "You are definitely braver than I'll ever be, Constantine. I wish I could feel that way, but I just think of all those tentacles and suckers and..." Shivering, she laughed, "Ugh. Gross. I bet it's slimy, too, if it's lived in the water all this time."

Grinning, she glanced over at him and nodded, "Maybe it won't be. It just seems boring to me, because it's what I did every day for so long... but for you, it'll probably be pretty neat. Anyway... I'll write to Mum and ask, but I'm sure she'd love to have you visit! And I'll ask if it's alright I visit you, too. The Crups sound amazing! Pringle will probably be mad, though. He's jealous as anything!"

Sitting back, her smile softened and her eyes returned to the lake. Ripples coursed the surface again, smaller this time... fish, no doubt, "You know... now that you put it that way, I guess I'm pretty excited about going home, too. I'm glad to be here, and I definitely don't get as homesick as I did back when I first started, but I miss my family and it'll be nice, getting to tell them all about Hogwarts. This was a good year... even if not all of it was ... well, you know. But I bet next year will be even better!"

"I'll have to check with my parents, but I'm certain they'd allow me to visit." Constantine smiled excitedly. As much as he enjoyed spending time with his family, he also enjoyed spending time with friends. He'd never really gotten much chance to hang out outside of school with his old muggle friends, with keeping magic secret and all that. The Hufflepuff was equally as eager to invite Maisy around to visit as well - there were so many things they could do! Walking the Crups was always fun, and there was a ton of woodland that he hadn't explored yet.

Constantine nodded happily. "I'm glad I've gotten over my nervousness, I was quite bad when I first started. Not that you could really notice it." He admitted sheepishly, "Sometimes letters aren't really enough to cure homesickness, you know?" Constantine continued knowingly. He'd always been confident during the school day, but he'd often felt quite anxious when returning to his dorm, as it gave him time to think about how much he missed his parents (and reluctantly, Monty). "I bet we'll have a load of new adventures, too! " The boy exclaimed eagerly. They still had a lot to learn, and he knew he'd enjoy every second of it.

"If you can't come for any reason, you... you'll write, won't you? It would be an awfully sad summer if I never heard from you." She smiled sadly, as she considered how much time she had wasted already, avoiding him for the past few weeks. It was a disappointment, but she would make up for it in any way she possible could. Even if the only way she could do it was in letter form... "Oh, goodness. Do... do you send mail the natural way? With a stamp and all? Or do you use an owl? I don't have one of those at home. Wonder if Mum would allow me to get one..."

She laughed as he went on and looking over to him, she shook her head, "I couldn't notice, at all. You didn't seem nervous, but then... I was a bit of a wreck, wasn't I? It's hard to think it's been nearly a whole year since you brought me back that picture of Pringle."

And the next year, not doubt, would hold just as many adventures... just as much excitement. Hopefully, though, far less bullying.

"Thanks for being my friend, Constantine. I'm really glad to have met you."

I'm thinking we can wrap this up soon, if you'd like and then maybe we can run some ideas over owls for if they got together over the summer and start a 'back to school' thread??

"Of course! I'll try to make them as readable as possible. " He laughed. Constantine's handwriting was far from neat, and the numerous errors that littered the paper every time he wrote only added to the problem. Maybe he'd try writing in pencil again, instead of ink. Though, his parents had responded to his letters just fine, so maybe they were at least a tiny bit legible. "Oh, we use the family owl. We can't really have muggle postmen at our door, for obvious reasons." Constantine admitted with a chuckle. The issue wouldn't stop him from sending or receiving letters, though, he'd just have to think around it. "Maybe you could use our owl, when he delivers my letters to you? Or maybe I'll get your letters delivered to the corner shop..." Either way was plausible, as long as Maisy didn't mind the occasional owl perched on her windowsill.

"You weren't that bad." Constantine smiled, waving his hand in dismissal. The year had gone quickly, much to the Hufflepuff's surprise. "I can't believe it, either, it's weird how time flies."

"I was just about to say the same thing." Constantine beamed. He hoped their friendship would be a long and flourishing one.

Of course! I'm fine with that!
