The Longest Night @Simon Kincaid

The last few weeks had been stressful... for both of them. Necessary time apart to study and write and brew homework assignments had taken its toll, but AngelFyre had decided to take advantage of an astronomical event to reconnect with her love. When Simon opened up drawer 21 today, he would find within a card, a solstice candle, and an invitation, of sorts.

It still astonished her that even though she laid eyes on the boy every day, she could still miss him so badly. She hoped that her plan would be a welcome respite to help get them over the remaining hurdles they each had to leap in order to be free to enjoy the upcoming holiday. And really, she was definitely not above using just about any excuse to be near him, and this was definitely a great one.

Simon was invited to the following:

Dear Mr. Kincaid,

Your presences is requested in the Hufflepuff Common Room, on the long sofa in front of the roaring fireplace, later this evening, December 21, 2022 to celebrate the winter solstice, otherwise known as the longest night of the year - in this hemisphere anyway. ;)

Dress for comfort and for the duration. Remember when you asked me over the summer if we could spend more nights together like our last one in London? Well, this is going to be exactly that. I am calling dibs on your time tonight... all night long. If there was ever a night meant for two insomniacs to spend together, it is this one, my love.

And truthfully, I am honestly just missing you. I will bring my alarm clock just in case we fall asleep like we did last time.

I love you!! ~An Admirer

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus @Simon Kincaid

This may seem to start out rough, but bear with me, love. It gets good... I promise.

So, ever since your visit to Madam Puddifoot’s with Clair last March, I have detested mistletoe. I have had long enough to get over most of the sting…**inserts BIG kiss to your cheek here**… but for a long time I was determined that any mistletoe that ever crossed my path would end up in a heap of ash. And before you go acting like I am overreacting, just picture that scenario as you described with me sitting there and kissing Kendric in order to kick start his love affair with love and I think you would feel the same. **inserts another BIG kiss to your other cheek**

BUT here is the good news, and I think this is something that we can use to laugh about my reconciliation with mistletoe for years to come. Today’s little reward is a Mistletoad ornament. How cute is that?!? I bought it at an "antique shop" when I was eight. It always makes me laugh. When you pull on the cording, he will actually “Ribbit” at you and smile. Mistletoe is just too romantic a tradition for me to make it a non-starter for us as a couple, so this is me easing my way back into the romance of it. And the big lip print on the side of his cheek reminds me of the night we went to the Justin Bieber concert and you barely made it out alive, only to end up looking like a “Kiss Test Dummy” for Sephora. Good times.

But seriously, I do think it is adorable and when I saw it again this summer, it did obliterate some holdovers I no longer wanted to hold onto. Besides, I have a sneaking hunch if some handsome bloke were to try to kiss me while holding it above our heads, I would laugh first and then ask where the real stuff was. **eyebrows** And that is when the toad would turn into my Christmas prince.

It is a 100% guaranteed Christmas hit, I am telling you. (Hint!! Hint!!)

Kissably yours,
~ moi

<3 <3 <3

P.S. Do you like any of the funny, old Christmas songs? I find myself humming them sometimes when putting this altogether for you. 'I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus’ was the ear worm for this particular venture. Please do not think me terrible, but even given the tragic news about Grandma Ruth, I still laugh at that oldie but goodie, 'Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer' mainly because she LOVES that song.

I guess a takeaway for the both of us here is that BIG love... like I hold in my heart for you every day, Simon... and humor will pull me out of just about any of my doldrums.

I really do love you.

There to Here @Simon Kincaid

Today they would be heading home for winter break. She had asked Simon not to open drawer 23 until they could be together on the train. Each time they had come and gone home together, they had managed to get a cabin all to themselves, so she assumed today would be no different. AngelFyre was going to have to put her acting skills to the test today because every other time the two had ever had to say goodbye to one another, she wore her sadness like a tight fitting glove. Today would be different, but Simon would not know that.

AngelFyre just did not feel sad because she knew of her family's plans to sweep him away on a week long trip come December 26th. He had no idea it was happening and she could not be more thrilled. She did not like to be apart from him, of course, for even that long, but the truth was that because of the holidays, they were each going to be ridiculously busy so she knew that unlike spring break and summer, the time really would fly by.

They both had agreed to not speak about the meeting he was going to have with his father later that evening, and that was a good thing. She really was greedy with his time and it bugged her that he was looking forward to THAT time in particular, even if it was away from her. Petty? Absolutely, especialy when she was just as eager to be home but for a different reason. Simon would be hoping to start a relationship with an immortal family member. AngelFyre would be hoping to say goodbye to a very mortal one. If she thought on that too long, she definitely would cry. She kind of chuckled and thought that just might be what she needed to do to throw Simon off the scent.

As she was taking a last couple of brush throughs on her hair, she thought about what was in his calendar for the day. It would take them all the way back to where everything really started for them. She had written her mother in October to see if she could find an inexpensive, signed photograph of Frank Sinatra with some sheet music to a specific song. It took a while, but her mother had come through for her.

AngelFyre had added her little touches to it and was quite pleased with the end result. Having been in Simon's private downstairs area where he practiced and listened to and composed his music, AngelFyre felt like today's offering would be both meaningful and a nice addition to the ambience, if he cared to display it. She stopped with the brush only halfway through her hair at one point when it struck her that it was so close to coming on a year when they met. They obviously had not been together that whole time, but her heart had been his whether the boy knew it or not.

That thought, the fact of the time specifically, reminded her for some bizarre reason of a thing her mother liked to quote often, in what she told AngelFyre was a pitch perfect Maine accent. AngelFyre, simply terrible with accents, had no recourse but to believe her mother. Why would she not? It would be such a silly thing to fib about. But what she quoted was an American commercial of all things. She had forgotten what the product had been, but it was not anything that was marketed in Scotland so it made little impact on AngelFyre. What did capture her attention because she had heard it so often was the catch phrase -- it was just so silly. Her mother would speak, with a very clipped tone and say, "Well, you can't get there from here." Even as a small child that made no sense to AngelFyre, and she had Grandma Ruth to thank for that keen bit of knowledge, thankyouverymuch. But that silly phrase would simply not stop looping through her brain.

Then she realized temporally maybe there was a bit of truth in it. Today's gift would represent their starting point. They could not have gotten to where they currently found themselves if it had not been for that one magical, evening. Or maybe they would have. Who really knew. She did believe that they were meant to be together and if it had not been that night, then it would surely have been some other time, some other way.

But this is how it happened for them. This is how they got from there to here. It was definitely worth noting as the idea of Simon being her home first crossed her mind when dancing in his arms for the first time and having him sing softly in her ear. He was home to her then and he was home to her now, in every way that mattered, even if conventional thinking said they would each be going to their "homes" on this day.

The Big Picture @Simon Kincaid

Simon had been asked not to open drawer 24 until he arrived back home from his candlelight midnight mass, which, she knew, would technically be Christmas morning. Yes, this one drawer would not follow the precise daily clip of the others, but everyone had different traditions for when they opened up gifts. Some liked to do it on Christmas Eve and others on Christmas morning. AngelFyre felt like this would be a nice bridge, of sorts, for Simon.

For her part, her family did a mix of the two. They would each open a gift on Christmas Eve and then the rest wold be opened on Christmas morning with lots of hot cocoa, Christmas tunes, and everyone in their pyjamas. Everyone, that is, except for her father who still insisted on dressing like Santa Claus and doling out the gifts. She was 12 and that still tickled AngelFyre to her core.

When he opened drawer 24, he had also been asked to call her, no matter the time. She playfully wondered if when he did whether he might be disturbed?... disappointed? ... to find that there was only a another decorative plastic baggie -this one decorated with a blonde haired girl and a brown haired boy making snow angels - containing 10 more puzzle pieces. Really? THAT was her big reveal for him? And it required still more effort on his part to get the silly thing figured out, even if it was only 20 pieces. He would probably just want to wring her neck at that point, but that was okay. She had a sneaking hunch this last bit of her persistent need to test his patience would pay off in a pretty sweet dividend.

When he would gather the other 10 puzzle pieces he had been gifted with earlier in the month and put them together, he would have a beautiful wintry snow scene of people skiing. It was an okay picture, but she knew he would be wondering what the heck that had to do with anything. AngelFyre, meanwhile, would be loving watching his brain work, trying to figure out what his girl was up to as he puzzled out the puzzle.

If he were to have forgotten a conversation they had way back in spring break while laying in the grass and looking at the stars, she would remind him of a list she mentioned she had started to compile shortly after they met of things that could be done at night. She had been fascinated to learn that there was such a thing as night skiing. This is what his puzzle depicted - night skiing. She and her family had rented a cabin in Austria and would be leaving on the 26th for a week of skiing and sightseeing.

So, that was nice, he might be thinking, but what did it have to do with him, exactly? If he was an observant lad, and she knew he most definitely was, he would likely have noticed it was a 2-sided puzzle. There were letters on the back of the puzzle pieces. When the puzzle was complete, he would have a picture as a clue to what lay in store for his very near future and the message on the back spelled it all out for him.

There was always a method to her madness, and she could not wait to see the expression on his face when it finally hit him just why she had asked him to get a passport. That dawning look of realization on his handsome face would be one of her best Christmas presents for sure.
