Jake's uncertainty over who to attack was broken up as he saw Starlee on her feet again, and there was no more time to think. In a moment his wand shot out. "Ventus--ah!!" the boy cried, but his own spell had backfired, and it was his own robes billowing against the gusts of wind. The small fourth year struggled to keep his footing, as the winds threatened to blow him backwards.

Callie asked if he was ok, and he looked up to see that the flames had gone out, and that she was alright. "I-I'm okay!" he blushed, more embarrassed than anything else. He told himself that he'd seen LOTS of spells backfire before, so it wasn't like he was the only one this happened to or anything... And most of the people he'd seen it happen to had had a lot more practice dueling than he did. That's what the LOGIC part of his brain tried to say anyway, but another part of him couldn't stop thinking that of COURSE he'd messed it up, and that people watching would probably laugh about it.

"Don't worry, I'm just happy the fire's out," he said to Callista with relief. He hoped that she was alright but her healing spell had probably helped a little, and now that she wasn't burning she wasn't in any immediate danger. There was at least that. But he really had to focus. Was it the fire that had messed him up...? He still felt a little shaky, and shook his head a couple times to make sure he re-focused. At least nobody had been casting at him...but why hadn't they? He eyed Sarah once again...what HAD he done to her? She WAS ok...right? There was still no time to think about anything else though. Starlee hadn't cast anything in some time but she was getting up again, and that meant she was about to. And with the gusts of wind, dodging would be even harder. Jake gripped his wand tightly, his nerves still firing, making the whole duel seem like it was in slow motion. Was this how Spiderman felt?

FINALLY, some spell casting heading both sides (not Sarah, she's still keeping her alleged dare).

While Callista was busy healing herself up the second time in a row, Starlee decided to take advantage of that and threw a decent Fire-Making spell at her. But it seemed the rolling around disturbed her aiming a bit. The spell sort of went rogue and headed towards the Hufflepuff boy, who managed to quickly step away.

The fact that Jake was targeted in addition to the previous critical failure of his own spell resulted in another spell this time just failing as, despite the incantation, no spell was produced.

While Starlee had been defensive the past two rounds, waiting out the Ventus that made it so difficult to dodge things, Starlee had decided that this was it. If she could finally get some damage in, perhaps this whole duel wouldn't be an entire waste. She could learn something from it.

However, her aim, the bane of her dueling experience, was as poor as ever, and what should have been an attack against Callista, turned against Jake. Her spell veered wildly toward Jake, who managed to dodge it. However this clear misfire seemed to stun him more than she anticipated, and he was unable to produce what was, once again, another Ventus. This was clearly good for her, but with Callista continuing to heal herself, things were drifting slowly out of her favor.

Finally, Starlee went on the offensive. Unfortunately, it seemed like bad luck was all over that round, and Callista didn’t even need to dodge—the spell went haywire, harmlessly sailing past the badgers. Jake tried to get his Wind Jinx off again, but it… failed? The only person whose spell went off without a hitch was Callista’s, but it was just a simple healing spell. She took what she could get though because she felt a lot better now, especially without the fire.

Torn between asking Jake if he was okay (again) and keeping silent, Callista eventually just gave an awkward smile. In her head, it went something like this: He said he was okay, but is he really? A backfired and a failed spell? Surely his resolve must be at least a little shaken? Ahh but if I ask again that must be weird, and what if he thinks I think that he’s incapable? Best not to say anything… but I want to make him feel better, but I’ll probably end up embarrassing myself or doing the opposite and making him feel worse! Aghhh.

Jake let out a small yelp as he dodged out of the way of the fire-making spell that had swung in his direction after missing Callie. The last thing he wanted was to be hit by one of those. To make things worse, when he reached forward to cast another Ventus in Starlee's direction, nothing happened at all!

Jake was trying to focus, but that had been the second mistake in a row. First his spell had hit himself, embarrassingly enough, and now nothing had happened altogether. No spell had even hit him yet (just his own) but with everybody watching, all he could think was that with each mistake he made everybody would just think he couldn't even duel. But he COULD. That was why he had signed up in the first place, to prove it! George would never let him hear the end of it if he stopped being able to cast spells, he HAD to do better.

Trying not to let everybody get to him (He just had to pretend they weren't there....even though there were so many people...) he tried to fight on, and not think about what would happen if Starlee turned one of those fire spells at him

Meenauh was now jumping on her toes, checking after the players, who started slinging their spells with great precision. Jake was doing nice spells, although practically spamming just one — first duels were usually like that because the brains can't be creative just yet. You have to practise to get creative. But so far Jake's spell landed nicely and the effects seem to stick around a bit.

Right before getting another jolt of wind in her face, Starlee did a great cast of the Tickling Charm and hit Callista with it. The mere thought of getting the tickles might have ruined Callista's aim and her Knockback Jinx missed the intended target.

Which was Starlee, of course, as Sarah not only didn't participate, the Hufflepuff team was practically ignoring her presence on the battlefield.

Starlee knew things were getting down to the wire. Sarah was practically non-existent and, at this point, Starlee was just ignoring her entirely. So were the Hufflepuffs, that was clear as both of them cast her way. Luckily Starlee managed to dodge one of them, but Jake's focus was back on track, and he hit her with another Ventus. She was really starting to dislike this spell, wavering slightly as she tried to maintain her balance. Right before she was hit, she managed to send off what she thought was a rather well cast tickling charm, causing Callista to be sent into a fit of giggles.

While her last spell may have veered entirely off track, at least this time she managed to land a hit. While she felt certain that a Slytherin loss was imminent, she would at least be proud of herself.

It was a fairly standard round. Jake finally got his Wind Jinx to work, making Callista smile. It was probably a mixture of pride, satisfaction, and excitement. Things were looking up for the Hufflepuffs!

Although, she probably should have been focusing on herself more instead of Jake. Her Flipendo went sailing past Starlee, and the Slytherin sent a clever Tickling Charm at her.

Her aim was spot-on, and Callista was too distracted to even see it coming until it was far too late. The outcome was inevitable—a bout of giggles erupted reluctantly out of her mouth.

“Oh my gosh- *hic!* -a tickling charm, really? It was more directed at herself than Starlee as she tried to contain her involuntary laughter.

Jake sighed with relief when his wind jinx worked again on his third try. He was afraid he might have just been broken forever. If he kept hitting himself with his own spell he'd never have been able to show his face again after. A spell came back towards the Hufflpuffs and hit Callista, but luckily it was just a tickling jinx. That one wasn't so bad....it wasn't fun to be stuck laughing when you didn't want to - and normally Jake would have hated that kind of thing. But that was before he'd stepped on the platform where you could have stuff happen like, fire! And lightning! Yeah....tickles were a LOT better than that. So at least this time it was just that that had hit Callista.

Of course he DID have to be careful. Callista had gotten hit with a couple spells and she still SEEMED ok but if they weren't careful they would take their toll on her - he knew THAT too. He breathed a little more heavily, though the wind had stopped. Casting over and over again was hard, you needed to concentrate, but luckily Jake was still too nervous to lose his concentration. Still, he had never done so many wind jinxes in a row before. He wondered how long the duel would go - after all he just wanted it to be over so he could just know everybody was ok...hopefully. He already felt worn out and he'd barely been touched yet!

Jake's Void Actions Total: 1.

Starlee didn't want to go down nice and easy. She was a fighter. A sturdy duellist she was. A quick and direct Flipendo hit Callista so hard that it nearly pushed consciousness away from Callista. The poor Hufflepuff girl would search for air in order to breathe — right after sending a Tickling Charm back and just barely landing it on Starlee's knee. The spell was weak, leading to just occasional tickles.

So, Callista was barely standing, searching for air and tickles kept coming after her. Hufflepuff was weakened.

Was it the moment when Sarah would finally act and send a Destroying Curse at Jake to solidify Slytherin victory?

That was not the scenario. She couldn't see Jake's face, or hear his thoughts, but he seemed to act generously to protect his partner. A decent Tickling Charm was cast beautifully and landed with unbelieable precision — this time a strong spell that would send Starlee into a burst of laughing. But the spell's impact was stronger. Starlee absorbed the spell and instantly dropped unconscious on to the floor.

This time Meenauh clapped out loud for a few seconds, before realisation that it was time to end the duel as Sarah did not act.

"Halt the duel!" she almost flew on to the stage with her wand out.

She looked at the Slytherin side — two unconscious bodies, one lying, one standing, then on Hufflepuff side, a bit tired but still standing. The decision was obvious.

"Considering the outcome, I declare Victory for Hufflepuff!"

The outcome was sudden and the crowd seemed paralysed by awkwardness and silent, but just for a second. She didn't need to wait for anything else to start and request the medical company for Starlee and Callista. And, of course, Sarah. She needed some long course of unpetrification or something.

She winked at Jake before stepping down from the stage. It was a good duel with quite a few surprises, but a good duel overall.
A WIN FOR HUFFLEPUFF!
As Sarah missed more than 3 consecutive rounds, Starlee may decide on the Forced Forfeit, which she did, leading to automatic victory for Hufflepuff.
