Colin couldn't help but notice how Sophia was turning red and was sweating. She must have eaten something real spicy, he thought. Maybe she should drink more milk? As he was talking with Willow and AngelFyre, he noticed that Sophia really did seem to be feeling out of sorts. She kept running her hands through her hair and wiping the sweat from her brow. The poor lass! She's going to collapse if she keeps that up! All the same, Colin wondered if there wasn't some other reason for her behaviour. He didn't know what this gathering was all about. Maybe the Headmaster was going to give her an award or something? That would make anyone blush and sweat!
But what grabbed Colin's attention as he finished up offering to lend Willow his new herbal book was when Sophia asked him a question: "Kim's getting married?" Colin wasn't expecting that question. If she would say anything, he thought it might be to borrow the book after Willow. But this question just popped out like a garden gnome among the rose bushes.
Colin blunk his eyes a couple times as he recalled why she'd ask that question. Colin gasped! His lips formed a perfect O of wonderment. "Whoa!!" he said. "I was --- right?" During that whole conversation Colin thought there might be --- something. But now, Sophia practically confirmed his suspicion!
Colin didn't quite know what to say. He looked into Sophia's eyes, wondering what she could possibly be thinking. How could she not know? Oh, wait! Is that why she's all red and nervous looking? Colin smiled at Sophia and said: "Well, yeah! Isn't it obvious? Our very own Prince Charming and his happily ever after story. Anyway, Sophs, you of all people should know, right? I mean it's you," he paused. Before he could continue, Colin heard a familiar sound.
A sound of pure joy.
A cute squeak!
His eyes were still pointing in Sophia's direction as he said it, rather loudly: "Eyes of Sky!"
Colin couldn't quite understand what had just happened. He felt his eyes open wide and knew his pupils were dilating. The chatter of students diminished to mumble-jumble background noise. Even the walls of the place began to fade. He turned on his seat, his heart pounding, forgetting all about everything else. His eyes scanned the hall, searching for twin blue gems. She stood there, he could just about see over the heads of the intervening students, next to something bright red. Probably an azalea. Or maybe someone's hair?
He sang out:
"Eyes of Sky, munching pumpkin pie!
.....Rune and riddle, find the question by and by;
..........you know the answer, Eyes of Sky!"
Colin tilted his head just so and smiled, baring all his fangs.
Then he turned back to the table and sat back in his chair with a sigh. Time and sound washed over Colin as reality restored its peculiar idea of order around him. When his came back into focus, he saw blue eyes like the sky. And the face changed. He blunk his eyes several times. He focused on AngelFyre for a moment then said, still smiling: "I'm starving all of a sudden! I'm going to get something to munch --- maybe pumpkin pasty?"
Colin got up and headed over towards the snack table. He licked his teeth in anticipation. That's when he noticed her, the girl from the Owlery, Mei. They weren't really friends, but she looked like she wanted to go sit with Bailey and everyone. He thought for a moment that she would, and then she sat down again.
He grabbed a pumpkin pasty and two meat pies, then he stood looking at Mei for a moment. Why didn't she go over? Maybe Bailey was her friend? They're both Ravenclaws after all. He thought for a moment, then made a decision.
"Hullo Mei! Want to come over and sit with us?" He smiled at her and nodded over towards the knot of kids sitting at Willow's table. "You're welcome any time, you know, right?" He smiled at her and made a quick bow before going on his way.
That went brilliantly, he thought. He didn't quite know what to make of Mei, but a stealth-pounce-invitiation might have done the trick! Colin turned in search of someone else. Two brilliant gems of pure noontime sky brought into the Great Hall. He'd made another decision. He saw the mop of red hair first, then the waist length brown.
He cleared his throat softly. He spoke quietly at first. "Um. Would you Ja --- er --- would you both, um." Colin lad! Why are you stammering all of a sudden? he chided himself! Why did he feel like his heart just fell down through his stomach? Ever since that DADA class he'd wanted to ask her to go exploring. To play games. To talk about how best to defeat Liche Kings. To wonder at the stars above and at tiny blossoms in the meadow. But --- why couldn't he? He'd go in a heartbeat on an adventure with Kim or Bailey or Quinn or any other friend. What was so different about Jarael? Was she not his friend? Had he not revealed his deepest secret to her? Did this girl not carry his very life in her hands?
Colin whacked the side of his head twice. "Come on, Colin lad! Say something before she sticks her face right in front of ours! We'll be lost forever once she does that!"
Colin looked up again: "Would you, Jarael, you know? Um? Like to sit with me? Us! Umm! Er --- both of you?" He thought he was going to pass out for sure.

Interacting with @Colin McCoire and @Harper JordanAngelFyre was momentarily distracted by a conversation taking place between Colin, who was directly to her left, and a girl with long red hair sitting immediately to the right of the Gryffindor next to her. Something about someone named Kim getting married and Colin confirming for the girl that she was the bride-to-be. The girl let out a sound. AngelFyre could swear it sounded like a... a squeak. She could not help herself; she smiled big. AngelFyre was all for people being happy in love as she was so blissfully matched herself. It was a state of being that definitely calmed the soul. She was, however, suddenly wrenched from her thoughts by a loud proclamation.
"Eyes of Sky!"
She recognized Colin's brogue immediately and she whipped her head to the left to look to him. AngelFyre may not have been born into magic, but she recognized a trance when she saw one, and she was definitely seeing one and hearing one.
"Eyes of Sky, munching pumpkin pie!
.....Rune and riddle, find the question by and by;
..........you know the answer, Eyes of Sky!"
As he delivered his short oration, AngelFyre kept close watch that he would not stumble and possibly hurt himself. As he was coming back to himself, he opened his eyes and blinked a few times before stating he was starving for a pumpkin pasty.
Grateful he was okay, AngelFyre silently nodded at him, and watched him head off. That was an incredibly interesting display. Whatever THAT was, it was not about a hunger for a pumpkin pasty.
Turning to give a casual glance around the room, hoping to see Simon, AngelFyre saw a girl who looked kind of alone. She was standing by the food table and AngelFyre determined to be more like her boyfriend and welcome the girl to the group, if she would like to join.
Excusing herself briefly, she headed directly over to the girl and introduced herself. "Hi! We have never met, but my name is AngelFyre McCubbin. You can call me AF though, everyone else does," and she smiled brightly at the girl. Motioning over her shoulder to the table she had just come from, AngelFyre continued, "You are more than welcome to come join us if you would like. It may not look like it from a distance, but we do not bite and we do not all know each other, so you will fit in as well as any of the rest of us. Promise. No pressure though. Just thought I would make the offer."

Harper had finished eating the cookie she had previously snatched and she heard someone speaking near her and she turned to face them, seeing if they were talking to her or not. Then, after a moment she has discovered that they were indeed talking to her so she looked to them and smiled seeing that they had invited her to talk to them.
"It's nice too meet you AF! My name is Harper." She stated with a smile and a small wave. She appreciated the outgoing and friendly attitude of the other as she wasn't that way herself. She was always afraid to initiate conversation with others. "I came here to hopefully learn more about different religions as I don't know much about them but I was too scared to talk to anybody so thank you for speaking with me." Harper said, and hoped her tone came out as genuine as she was feeling. She liked to talk with others. Especially getting to know them and making new friends. She was also thankful for any opportunity she got to try and improve her anxious and nervous attitude towards socializing. She knew that she made it a bigger problem then it actually was.

Jarael was munching on her pumpkin pastry staring all around and back at Extressia who introduced herself to the Ravenclaw. Jarael shook her head furiously “Nope I’m not complaining either. '' she said playfully as her brown hair whipped back and forth. Jarael head Extressia mention religion which she gave a blank face to the Gryffindor. “I do get motivated by food. You can think of it as a spiritual enlightenment every time I take a bite.” she giggled and let out another squeak. As she was standing next to the Gryffindor, her heart started pounding. It felt like she was being summoned as the words Eye in the Sky were said by someone but at first she didn’t know who.
Jarael looked around the room to see who had said that, then more words like a song were heard and she found the one who said that. “Snakey Boy!!” she shouted and a bunch of squeaks came out of her while she jumped up and down. Her black ankle boots made a thumping noise as she jumped.
She looked at his eyes “Green like slime” she giggled. She noticed he was with other people she didn’t know. She turned her attention back to Extressia. She was amazed with the color of her hair. It was so red. “Like blood” she said thinking out loud. “Drip drip drip.” She said as she pointed at Extressia then put her hand on her own brown hair and started to twist her fingers into it, making her hair curl around the finger.
Unexpectedly she noticed Colin coming over. She thought he preferred his friends which she would have understood. Not many would spend time with her. Not that Jarael cared. Colin stammered to say something she cocked her head to the side wondering what he was going to say. She giggled at his effort. To her she can tell he was trying but for some reason couldn’t get it out.
“Fairy got your tongue” she giggled at him “Fairies are known to come and grab whatever they can and they like tongues because they have an interesting texture to them.” she said in a wild tone to her voice. He finally spit out the words he was trying to say. He wanted to see if she would sit with her. Her piercing blue eyes grew bigger with excitement. Her heart was pounding and she felt a little warm. She didn’t know why but every time she was around Colin, she felt different. Maybe because of all the students she has met, granted that wasn’t a lot. Colin seemed to be similar to herself. She turned to Extressia and gave a nod “Bloody Tres and Snakey Boy. Let’s go and sit.” she said with a confident yet weird vibe. She went to find a seat hoping they would follow. She went skipping and squeaking all the way there.

"Hi, Harper! I have to say, I am a HUGE fan of your first name. A Harper wrote my favorite book... correction.... my favorite book after my Bible... so I am already tickled to make your acquaintance. I love the name so much it is on my list of girl's names if I ever have a little girl. Were you by chance named after Harper Lee?"
As AngelFyre asked the question, she turned and started walking with Harper back to the table, eager to hear about the derivation of her name. As Harper began to answer, AngelFyre was listening intently. She was also scanning the room again and smiled when she saw Colin speaking to two lovely girls. Something told her his little trance had everything in the world to do with one of the beauties he was speaking to now.
Then she noticed Marius Brown near Professor Horne. He was dressed quite formally and looked exceedingly nervous. AngelFyre did not know Marius, other than she recognized him as a fellow Hufflepuff. She was about to avert her gaze when Marius turned to look out over the growing crowd.
AngelFyre met his gaze briefly and waved to him, and then motioned to him with a beckoning wave to come join the table. She and Harper reached the table just then so she did not get to see if Marius had agreed to come over not, but at least the invitation had been made.
She motioned for Harper to go to the side where Willow was sitting since it was a little less crowded. "Everyone, this is Harper Jordan. Harper, I would introduce you to these folks next to me," speaking of the Gryffindor boy and the redhead next to him, "but I sadly do not know their names. I can tell you that you are sitting next to Willow Anderson and the dark haired boy in the green kilt back that way is Colin McCoire. He went to get a pumpkin pasty, but I think he will be bringing back a much sweeter treat."

Kim looked over at AF as she sat down.
The girl introduced herself and he nodded.
"Kim." He told her and let his eyes flicker over the girl before him. AngelFyre. So her full name was AngelFyre and the AF he'd heard before had been a nickname.
As AF apologized for 'barging in' Kim shook his head. "It's fine, it's not like we have assigned seating or anything, or do we?" He asked, not really sure about that now that he'd brought the matter up. Kim smirked at AF's words about having priorities straight and shook his head. He wouldn't dignify that with a response. There wasn't much he could say after all. As the conversation continued around him, more and more people started to show.
There were too many people in the room now.
And they all seemed to gravitate towards his table. Maybe he'd chosen the wrong one to sit at. But then again, it wasn't as if he'd chosen this table, the books had called him over.
As Colin gave him a glare and then started to laugh, Kim raised a brow. This boy...he didn't know what to make of him. Maybe he was covering up his nervousness by laughing. After all, Kim was getting uncomfortable with all the people surrounding him. Since he believe Colin was the same, it must be starting to get to him as well. Irish's words about Willow gave him more information about the girl and Kim nodded, filing away the information for later on.
Before he could see if Colin maybe wanted to head to the side and chat, the boy spoke to him again. This time saying something that made Kim pale. And you're almost married now yourself! Wait, how did he know about that?! Kim had literally told no one about what had happened over spring break. And he was fairly certain Colin hadn't been there at the time. So how had he found out?! For the first time, Kim was at a loss for words and a little nervous.
He barely heard what Colin was saying about Willow.
But picked up 'prefect', 'dueling', 'write' and 'infirmary' with his passive hearing, aka his ears.
One thing was for sure, Kim needed to talk to Colin alone. In private. Before the boy ended up spilling his secret to the entire population. Sophia's movements and actions might have called Kim's attention to her before Colin had dropped the bombshell, but as it was Kim was too freaked out to notice. However, when Sophia suddenly echoed Irish's previous words about marriage, Kim's head whipped back over to her. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm not getting married anytime soon!" Kim said as he glanced from Colin to Sophia and then back to Colin again. He gave the boy a look that implied he wanted to talk to him in private. The only question was whether or not Colin would realize the meaning behind his stare. Thankfully, it looked as if Sophia got distracted by the books again. But then, Colin responded to her question and Kim's eyes widened. He shook his head rapidly at the boy.
Yes, the tall Gryffindor was trying to make eye contact with him.
But Colin ended up spilling the beans.
However, not in the way Kim thought he would have and a wave of relief swept over him. Ah, so he hadn't known. Oh that was so good, he was safe. Feeling as if a weight had been removed from his chest, Kim relaxed a bit, until a cute squeak was heard nearby. Of course, his head immediately turned towards Sophia. She was the only one he knew had a cute squeak like that, except for Precious. And then Colin did something very strange to him.
He said the words Eyes of Sky. What the hell was that? Soon afterward, Irish broke into a song and Kim blinked. Well, his voice wasn't too bad. Part of him kind of wanted to join him. But another part, a bigger part, decided not to do so. He didn't want anyone to see or hear him yet. Why? Because he wasn't confident about revealing his talent to the world right now. The Satos and the pureblood community might not approve of him doing something like this.
Colin got up and went over to the snack table.
The crowd swallowed him up and Kim shuddered a little, feeling a bit claustrophobic.
But it wasn't really claustrophobia, it was more like he didn't feel comfortable being within crowds of people. It was complicated and hard to explain to those who didn't suffer.
He decided to get up and get some air, away from the table. "I'm gonna grab some snacks." Kim told the people around him and then excused himself, without waiting for a response. There were way too many people right now and he couldn't take being around them. No offense to them but you couldn't control the way you felt. Of course, AF had to choose this time to bring a new girl over to the table. And Kim was now directly in the way.
"Kim." He said, introducing himself and wished he'd dyed his hair a different color this month. Pink was really too easy to spot and people would be able to spot him a million miles away if they had eyes. "I'm heading over to the snack table too. So, if you'll excuse me?" Kim said and then inclined his head towards the girl and AF and literally yeeted. As he made his way through the crowds, he finally got to the snack table. He quickly looked around.
One side had a few people milling around.
The other side was empty and Kim immediately chose that side, breathing a sigh of relief.

Finius was walking into the great hall and said a small prayer. He knew that sharing the good news of salvation was a primary command of Jesus but it was never easy and it would be a first for him. He was interested in hearing others beliefs but wanted to make sure not to roll over in the conversation like he normally did. He had a plain paper cover ESV Bible and a copy of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis under his arm, then moved them to the crook of his elbow before they got soaked in sweat.
He saw a few other first years, he grabbed an assortment of snacks and sweets and took a seat next to one of them. "Hi, I'm Finius." He shook a few hands and took a bite of a food while he tried to organise his thoughts. Luckily it seemed that magic didn't rely on any particular belief system to work, something he was afraid of before coming to Hogwarts. When he and his parents got the Hogwarts letter (after being convinced it wasn't a joke) his parents had to be convinced thoroughly that he wasn't being inducted into a cult before they let him attend here.
He hoped that his beliefs wouldn't lose him any friends, he's heard that talks about politics and religion are the topics that lose you the most friends.

Sophia looked around her, from person to person, thoroughly overwhelmed. She was okay around people, if not a bit awkward, but she definitely struggled with crowds. Her pulse was racing from her nerves at being surrounded by people. She stood abruptly and excused herself, deciding to follow Kim's example, making way for the snack table.
Sophia sighed in relief as she escaped the large gathering of people, eager to get out of the way of their conversations. She needed a way to avoid massive crowds, and she needed it fast. Even if she found herself surrounded, if they would just ignore her existence, perhaps she would be okay. Deciding the best way to slip under the radar was to lie low, Sophia began stuffing her mouth full of whatever snacks she could fit, washing them down with juice. She kept her face firmly in the direction of the table, hoping that having her back to most of the people would keep her from the bulk of the crowd.
When her pulse finally relaxed a bit, Sophia stepped slowly over to Kim.
"S-some crowd, huh?" she asked, out of breath for some reason, "They all seem so nice, and I'd love to spend time with them individually, but wow."
Sophia took a few more deep breaths, slightly panicked at her body's reaction to all the people. She normally never had this problem, so why now?
She resolved to continuing her little munch fest and enjoying Kim's comforting presence as she scanned the room for individual people from whom she could learn about their beliefs.

Things, in some ways big and in some ways small, had begun to change about AngelFyre since Simon had come into her life. Some were conscious changes, others not. One of the things that had definitely not changed, however, was her keen observation of people. It had been her default position for years and it still was. Observing, rather than engaging, always balanced her scales and kept her in her comfort zone, but even at 12 years of age she knew staying only in her comfort zone would stunt her emotional growth.
It was not that she did not like people because she did. Group situations, while interesting, always drained her gas tank though, so leaving the table to bring even more people over was not her natural instinct. It felt more like something Simon would have done had he seen someone looking alone and unsure, but wanting to join a crowd. Knowing where his heart was for people always, AngelFyre had long ago determined to try to be a little more like him to the extent she could. She had never been a shy person, though many people assumed her desire to retreat from crowds could be attributed to shyness. No, crowds were just a little too much stimuli all at once and could quickly overwhelm her. Because she knew this so well about herself, she could see it often in others.
Excusing herself once again from the table, she looked to Harper and Willow. "Please pardon me for a moment. I will be right back." And she quickly stood and gathered her cup and walked to the food table, staying on the busy side, opposite Kim and his redheaded friend.
Clearing her throat to get their attention, she smiled contritely and offered, "I believe I may owe you two an apology. You had been sitting there with Willow when I barged over, and what had been a comfortable group of 3 suddenly developed into an algae bloom of sorts... making it seem hard to breathe. I know how that feels. It is not normal for me to gather crowds around me. I was trying something different, trying to work outside my comfort zone, but did not stop to think how it could affect others. It is done now and I cannot change that fact, but I am sorry to have caused any distress," and she filled her cup up with more lemonade. "If you choose not to go back to the table, I just wanted to say it was nice to meet you and maybe we will meet again under less stressful circumstances." And still smiling at them both, she lifted her cup up, nodded to them, and turned, heading back to the table.

Extressia giggle at the odd way Jarael was speaking. "You have a funny way of speaking," she said bluntly. Then she realized what she said and put her hand on her mouth. "I'm so sorry! Your way of speaking is perfectly great," she said, not realizing it could muffle. But she realized this as well and a look of annoyance came over her. She was already making mistakes after mistakes. She let her hand back to her side, yet it seem Jarael wasn't focused on her now, instead it was on a boy with a stripe in his hair, who to be honest looked really cool. And also "Eyes of Sky", what was that, as he sang a song, looking back at Jarael, something seemed to click in Extressia's mind. Then she made a comment about Extressia hair and she forgot about it as a surprising look went upon her face: "Oh I never thought about it, mom always said my hair was the color of a phoenix, thinking both is a good comparison."
She then thought about a fun fact about hair and was about to tell Jarael when the boy walked toward them. Seeming to stammer as he tried to speak and the two expressions being pretty obvious, Extressia frowned at the realization. "They are in love with each other. It is just me that gain social awareness power-up or are they being that obvious?" she thought. But no matter that right now, because now she felt nervous being a bit of a third wheel.
Then again, she felt weird declining the offer and having to explain herself why, Extressia could always lie, but her mother taught her not to do that, and she didn't want to disobey any more rules. "Uh sure, I"m Extressia by the way. You know honesty makes for a lasting maybe loving relationship." she said to the boy. Then blushes in embarrassment and sprinted toward the table after Jarael.
