2022, Stage 3 Ravenclaw vs Slytherin: Match 2

The last round was pretty good for the Ravenclaw team. This one? Not so much. Eun-ji sighed as she watched both of their spells miss the target. It was a close call but that didn’t matter. Miss was a miss…Simple as that. Hanako was still struggling with the effects of Impediment Jinx but he was obviously not about to stand there and do nothing either. The raven-haired witch usually commended that kind of attitude but it was not necessarily ideal in this situation. The thick smoke that currently obscured everybody’s vision was definitely inconvenient to say the least.

It was then that the boy finally decided to speak again but Eun-ji wouldn’t respond to his banter this time. She had to think about what to do next and she really didn’t feel like talking to the fog. How about you try again face to face? To be fair, she was not necessarily someone that indulged her opponents in conversation but if he was interesting enough, perhaps she could make an exception.

Their luck had seemingly run out, both of their spells missing, although Delilahs got quite close. Unfortunately Eun-ji wasn't that close.

Delilah wasn't surprised to see the fog descend on the duellists. It happened relatively frequently. It did certainly make it a lot harder to see though.

Surely Delilah could figure out a way out of this one.

Jake peered through the smoke, trying to get a glimpse of what the duelers were doing. Hanako's move had been a smart one, but it was making Jake's job really hard. How could he see if anybody was cheating if he couldn't see at all?

That wasn't quite true...he COULD see a little. But it WAS getting harder. Through the smoke, Jake saw the Slytherin team once again turn towards each other. Hanako would try to raise his wand towards Starlee - was he trying to heal her? But with the effects of impediment, he was becoming just about useless. Perhaps it stopped him from making the proper movements, because his spell wouldn't work. But Starlee, taking advantage of the cover of smoke, would once more attempt to undo the effects that were slowing down her partner. This time, she would find redemption, as Hanako would feel like the air was suddenly free, and his limbs would move with a new and surprising ease after being restrained for so long.

Now what? Jake tried to peer through the haze. The Slytherins hadn't attacked but the Ravenclaws...Suddenly, he heard a series of bangs, and the boy let out a yelp as bright sparks lit up the smoke. Delilah had cast a cracker jinx right at Starlee, hitting the girl directly (and startling one dueling captain). When you can't see, use a big attack. A jet of flame would follow next, but this time the smoke would be Hanako's savior as he would feel Eun-ji's spell whoosh right by him.

Jake, still shaken by the explosion, was really happy when the smoke began to clear, and everybody's vision began to clear with it. But now...for the first time since the duel began, both Slytherins had full movement. Things were about to get interesting...

It’s a no brainer. She’s hurt- rather badly. And he was in full health. It was obvious what direction the Ravenclaws were aiming for. While he looked forward to breaking their patience in the next few rounds by cranking up his annoying-ness, double flipendos- from his experience- was not the vibe. He’d rather avoid it all cost, thanks.

A bit too desperate to not be the last one standing, he sorta forgot about his own weakness as a player. Healer Hanako. No, that doesn’t sound right. He was the one setting people on fire, not soothing their pain. So he was not surprised at all that he failed to do his intended job. But that didn’t stop embarrassment from showing on his tinted cheek. “J-just so you know that was on purpose!” he directed towards the Ravenclaws (if they managed to see his spell fail) before crossing his arms, stubbornly looking away from his teammate. “That was just payback for earlier. Obviously” he quipped, a little softer this time.

Oh, wait a second.

He could move now!

Finallllyyyyy” the groaned in relief. He continued making small movements with a growing smile. He would never underestimate the power of being able to move your limbs. His evasion sucked but it could’ve been worse. Of course, his smile didn't last when he realised just how he was able to break free.

Hmm.. “ a thank you was just on the tip of his tongue, but instead what came out was, “ could’ve done it earlier”. He needed less health to be genuinely grateful. But Starlee was free to think that the tiny smile that he showed was his way of showing gratitude. In his own- annoying way.

Helloo againnnn~” he gave an empty enthusiastic grin at the Ravenclaws just as the fog cleared up. “Did my smoke mess some of your aim? Sooorrrrryyyyyyy”. He definitely was not sorry.

Despite the smoke being more than a little annoyance, both Eun-ji and her teammate decided to go for the offence again. It was risky but it would be foolish not to try. Hanako could barely move at this point but that could change at any moment. Starlee already tried to help him once. There was no guarantee she wouldn’t try again.

The younger Ravenclaw decided to go with a spell that needed an accurate aim, which she soon found out to be a mistake. She had missed before and now she could barely see anything. The witch wouldn’t even be one hundred percent sure if she missed had it not been for the boys new found chatter. “J-just so you know that was on purpose!” In all honesty, Eun-ji didn’t know what exactly happened but Hana just gave himself away. The smoke was already clearing up and so he could probably see her raised eyebrows. He was a peculiar one for sure. Considering his next words were directed as his teammate, he was probably trying to heal her or something. That was one thing Eun-ji was pretty confident in. Healing spells were her thing for sure but to be fair, she would be happier if she didn’t have to use them at all. Well at least Del succeeded. She thought gratefully.

So far there was no jarring gap between the two teams so anything could happen really. Hanako was able to move freely now and Eun-ji would be lying if she said she was not at all intimidated. He was a 5th year after all and Slytherin in general was a tough opponent. She was not going to pretend otherwise. That being said, she was also not planning to show any of that in her expression. She was still as calm and composed as ever. Shrugging at his fake apology, the witch stayed focused on her next move. She was well aware that his goal was to distract them but he would have to try harder than this in order to make that happen. Her patience was probably much more powerful than any spell she could cast his way.

Delilah was thankful that her spell had successfully hit its target, and even more glad that Hanako's attempted healing had gone un-successful. However she was less happy about the other 2 spells, Eun-ji missing was less than ideal, but fine, they were still ahead. And it also wasn't great that Dels impediments had now been nullified. But it was all still salvageable, you win some, you lose some.

Starlee knew what she had to do, and this time she wasn't going to fail. The fog around them all was causing it to be difficult to see the other end of the piste, but luckily that wasn't where her target was. She turned to face Tone as he attempted to cast yet again at her too, where she had hoped to receive a healing boost. Unfortunately Tone's spell never left his wand, and he now stood in the same shoes Starlee had been in only moments before, embarrassed about failing. Trying to shrug off the annoyance (since she couldn't really talk since she had done the exact same thing) she raised her wand to relieve him of the Impediment Jinx. This time she was successful, and in her concentration she had managed to not hear Tone's quip, just his long winded 'Finally' then ending with 'could’ve done it earlier' to which Starlee rolled her eyes, turning back to face... well... the Ravenclaw's if she could even see them.

A spell flew past the two, clearly aimed for Hanako, but it seemed the fog had made it hard for one of them to cast. Starlee hadn't expected the second spell whatsoever, and a loud BANG exploded in front of her, knocking her back slightly as she managed to loose focus. This was yet another spell she hadn't seen before, it seemed Stewart wasn't holding back. Starlee couldn't blame her, but she was getting tired. At least she could aim again, even if these wizard crackers kept exploding all around her.

Hanako said he was sorry that his smoke had messed up the other team's aim, but Jake was pretty sure he wasn't really sorry. He also didn't think he had really messed up his spell on purpose, but the only reason Jake knew THAT was from the look of embarrassment on Hanako's face. There were a lot about other kids that Jake couldn't always understand, but that look was one that he knew very well (In fact, it wasn't unlike how his own face had looked after he had yelped at Delilah's Cracker Jinx).

If Eun-ji was bothered by the boy's...taunts (was that what it was?) she didn't show it. And it kinda made sense why. Sure Hanako could move again, but the Ravenclaws had already done a lot of damage. Especially to Starlee. Jake looked closer to see if she seemed ok...she was still standing up, and she was still fighting, but it looked like the fire crackers had maybe stunned her. That made a lot of sense...they had been shocking even if they HADN'T been right in your face.

The Ravenclaws must have sensed it, the blood in the water, or maybe they saw something Jake didn't about how Starlee was doing after all these spells, because two jets of Flipendos shot forward for the Slytherin girl. She was quick on her feet, very quick, and she was able to duck under the one sent by Eun-ji, but it was the one sent by Delilah, the more powerful one perhaps at her older age, that would hit the younger girl and drive her backwards once again. Jake leaned forward and tried to see if she was going to be able to keep going. The hits just kept on coming. But she WAS.

Because now that the Slytherins were moving, they weren't going to give up. And if the tides were going to turn it was going to be now. Starlee didn't fall down, in fact she steeled herself, and sent a tickling jinx right for Delilah. Delilah would try to dodge out of the way, but as she did, Hanako's charm would strike her - yes, the boy was quick once again, and fighting back. Just as the Ravenclaws had, the Slytherins focused on one target, and it hit Delilah at the worst time. As her movement began to slow, she would be just a smidge too sluggish to fully avoid the tickling jinx, and while for a tense moment she might wonder whether she had managed to really get out of the way or not, she would soon feel the bursts of laughter within her, first just a little, and then she'd be unable to resist letting out just a few of them. No, it wouldn't be the full force of laughter she might have felt from tickling jinxes before, the spell had just grazed her, but it would be enough to throw her off her game and make aiming just a bit harder.
