XXXXWell, well, well. Looked like Miss Maggie Hawkins was something of a celebrity, surrounded by adoring fans. Well, people who found it somewhat impressive that she had managed a bullseye on her first throw. Honestly? To let you in on a little secret? It was a complete show of luck. Of course, Maggie had some sort of limited practice, what with being a chaser for the school team, and all, but where axe-throwing was involved? Absolutely no prior knowledge or understanding.

And oh, wasn't that thrilling?

The sound of Vale's family chattering excitedly after Maggie's axe found a home buried in the center of the target, loud and almost unnerving, the way that they spoke excitedly, just made Maggie feel even bigger. Her head was ballooning up to ten times its size, a gross approximation of Pinocchio. Achievement only bred big heads.

"Nope! Looks like I'm good at just everything. Jealous, Chen?" Maggie boasted, straightening herself out, back laying flatter. How quaint. "Oh, thanks, Li."

To Liana, she was always kinder. Sure, her disposition wasn't the sunniest, wasn't a pushover, but Maggie wasn't as competitive with her best friend as she was with Avery Chen.

Maggie wound up, another axe held firm behind her head. Strong fingers curled around the stem, and Maggie let it loose.

What is Going On?
Liana, poor Liana. Without her wand, she feels defenseless without it. It appears she misses her wand so much that her axe throwing skills wavered from it. The entire Ashwood family watched as her axe swung, and did it swung, all the way into the woods. They sat in silence, slowly moving their heads back to watching Liana. Without their usual, hyena laughter and cheering, it was an awkward silence. One that a young Vale would luckily fixed in time when her turn is up next. With a mighty swing, her axe flew through the sky. It lands on a target...bull's eye! Her family cheered, whistling and clapping. An expected outcome. The next throw from Habib was just as exciting. A middle ring hit from the young boy. They clapped and boasted for him.

The next team up was Noah, Maggie, and Hunter. Noah would end up redeeming himself despite having trouble aiming his axe correctly. Maybe it was due to how scared the poor boy was? With a mighty throw, hitting an inner ring of a target! The Ashwoods clapped for him, which would erupt in cheers when Maggie threw yet another bull's eye! Was it just natural for the young girl? Who knows! The Ashwoods think so. And up next, was dear ol' Hunter. Prehaps his last throw was just bad luck. For he ends up hitting a target this time, and with his glasses on! A middle ring hit! The Ashwoods clapped for him this time, glad that he decided that his glasses were vital in his success.

As for team three, it appears Draven have decided the woods were too scary to function properly in. Adana would take the young boy off to the side to get his nerves off. She looked over to her young daughter, Vale, and shook her head. A frown would be found on the young girl's lips. One person out. But it appears he wasn't the only one, for Faye finally spoke up and decided to sit out to the sidelines to watch instead. Unfortunately, that left Della on her own. She would swing, and land on a middle ring of a target. The Ashwoods would clap, but there was concern about the uneven gameplay now. Vale hurried over to her father and whispered into his ear. He nodded, and moved away into the fog...

It appears that Ari must also be wary of his surroundings, for instead of throwing an axe, he sat in place. His team mate Avery would take the forefront, throwing an axe and landing on a middle ring. Perhaps his confidence without his wand, unlike Liana, would be his upside. And Clair, well, there was no words needed to explain how impressive Clair was. She learned to keep a firmer grip on her axe this time and threw her axe onto an inner ring of a target. The Ashwoods that sat off to the side clapped to show their sportmanship towards such fine axe-throwing.

Something's happening!

Duncan, Vale's father, has returned from the fog...with a bigger target? No, bigger numbers! Instead of the points that the other teams had, this target had the higher points to collect.

+1, +2, +3, +4, and +6 were no longer the point system for Della. Instead, her points were now +5, +6, +7, +8, and...+10?! It seems the universe is looking out for Della this time, as Duncan sets up the target meant for just ol' her. It even had her name spelled on it. Vale clapped happily as her father set the target up. Now her friend had a chance at least, thanks to her father.

Della was starting to worry, her teammates hadn't come back yet. Were they lost? Afraid? It was just a simple muggle game—it was assuredly the least scary part of this place. No matter, it was a friendly game after all, so Della resigned to try to have fun, even though she was fairly certain she'd be the loser. Would that be embarrassing? Would everyone think she was uncool for being a team of one? Or would they at least take pity on her? That didn't seem agreeable either.

Della grabbed another ax and hurled it at the target. She felt it slip out of her hand funnily, but it still managed to land on the middle ring. It felt different than her last throw, the bullseye. Great, her nerves were getting to her.

Then Mr. Ashwood appeared, with a brand new target. It had "Della" written on it. And the scores were higher. It seemed Vale's family wanted her to get a fair shot at winning. But this was too much—if all eyes weren't on her before, they now would be. She'd rather be a loser than get special treatment. Especially at a group sleepover. Especially when she was trying so hard to make friends. God, why was everything so complicated at twelve years old?

But Della remembered her manners, and she managed a smile at Vale's father, "Thank you, Mr. Ashwood."

Avery observed Hunter scribbling in his journal. He often wondered what the boy was writing about. Perhaps the boy took notes on everything, or perhaps he had many emotions that simply did not have any verbal outlet. Either way, the boy seemed to have many thoughts. Avery wondered, would it be intrusive to ask what the boy was writing about? Would Hunter not like the attention if asked about something so private in a crowd of classmates? He soon decided that would be the case, so he merely shrugged and continued watching the throws.

At Maggie's retort that she was simply 'good at everything', Avery let out a snort. If anything, Maggie Hawkins had spunk, and she was hilarious. "No, not jealous at all!" he responded optimistically -- perhaps with too much optimism. "That's because you haven't seen everything I can do yet, Hawkins. You just wait." The next one would be a bullseye, he reckoned, taking an axe in his hands, and feeling its weight. If Maggie scored so many points already, chances were, he was bound to get a bullseye in no time.

He took aim at the target, and let loose, willing it to strike the center.

XXXXAvery Chen was so jealous. Because Maggie Hawkins had just managed a second bullseye, the axe sailing through the air and landing inside the center of the target with a dull 'thud'. The Ashwoods were chittering and chattering between themselves, that enthusiasm showing in each word they said. Maggie grinned wide and turned her attention to Avery, raising a brow at the boy and grabbed another axe. Getting ready to throw back at the targets before her. She'd absolutely annihilate Avery Chen (and everyone else. Duh), even though this wasn't really about beating the other kids who had been invited. It was about having fun. Coming closer together. Making friends.

Impressing Vale's family.

All the important stuff.

"This is au naturale, baby," Maggie clicked her tongue and snapped her fingers at Avery, swinging the axe in her other hand back and forth. Perhaps not the safest option, but the most fun one, for certain. "You saw that? You saw that I totally dominated this? Just now? Eat my dust, Chen," she added, throwing the axe after a moment's hesitation. Third time's a charm.

Ari was pleasantly surprised at the fact that his axe had actually hit the target and not embedded itself somewhere unideal, whether that be in his foot or someone else. Either way, he was very much impressed.

His shoulder hurt from the force of throwing the axe, though, so he took a moment to let the pain subside. He sat down on the grass and watched closely as the others continued to throw their axes.

Ari was also surprised at the sudden amount of people who had abandoned the activity midway. Perhaps some people just weren't meant to throw axes at targets and find it amusing or entertaining. He himself had started out quite skeptical of how the results would yield on his behalf, but now that he had actually done it and done it well, he felt better.

After examining the strategies of other participants and allowing his shoulder to recover, Ari returned to his feet and picked up another axe. He turned it over in his hands like he had done with the first one. He swung his arm carefully, allowing himself to get used to the feeling of the axe's weight once again, but making sure to stay out of reach to prevent harm to others.

He took a deep breath, steadied himself, and released the axe from his hand.

Hunter sighed from the fact he had done better with his glasses than without them. It was only this recent year that his sight had currently begun to diminish, and this game was proving that despising fact. Hunter decided to plan to wear his glasses less and less over the summer, or perhaps change their color to something other than yellow. Perhaps a shade of blue would be more fitting since he was a part of house Ravenclaw, or dispatching the glasses overall wouldn't be such a bad idea.

He was surprised by Mr. Ashwood's attempts at creating the game to be fairer for Della but didn't mind it at all. He didn't pay too much attention to Della's new target; instead, Hunter was more curious about the sudden mixture of competitive talk between multiple individuals. It made Hunter curious as to what the point of winning or proving one's abilities in a game like this would even prove. Moreover, what was the point of bickering between each other? Hunter assumed it was just a Slytherin thing and figured he probably shouldn't hang around so many of them all the time. It was a curious thought as to how Hunter ended up around these students; to which he recalled it's because of his blood relation to Vale. Hunter came to the Ashwood manor to find things about the Ashwoods and possibly his own family, not much for competition or creating friends. Friendship was more of a wish from his mother, and not from him himself.

Lifting up another ax, Hunter threw it with little effort placed into it. He didn't care for a win, nor did he care about his results. He wanted to move things along, and do so with little attention or conversation with others.
