2022, Stage 2 Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw: Match 4

Finally, the girl thought, shoulders sagging from relief as the third round of the duel went by without her being hit by another spell. She was out of breath from dodging both spells cast her way, chest rising and falling in quick motions, but could happily say that at the very least things weren't getting worse for the Hufflepuff team. Atlas knew that if they did suddenly get worse she wouldn't last long. The fire that had burned her skin had gone out but the memory of it and the pain it left behind remained. The girl simply didn't suppose she could take more than one other spell without her feet buckling from the pain and exhaustion her body was dealing with. But she also knew that the guilt that would come with leaving her partner alone would be so much worse than anything else this duel threw at her, so Atlas prayed for an adrenaline rush, for anything, to help keep her moving.

Round Four

Frost must have snapped out of whatever trance she had found herself trapped in as she conjured a healing spell more potent than they usually were. She must have practiced healing magic a lot, or so Alan believed as this was the only thing that kept Atlas conscious. Despite dodging or attempting to dodge the spells of their foes, they both hit their target. Callie was a little more successful, however even this cast was rather close. Robert however seemed to barely even hit her, most of the blast from the knockback jinx rushed past Atlas and dissipated into nothingness. Even so the damage that the both of them had done was undeniable.

Now Robert really seemed to be gaining traction. Even when his opponent was actively ducking and weaving around in an attempt to avoid his spell, he still managed to connect, even if part of the spell dissipated without any effect. Unfortunately, it seemed as if Frost was also coming back to life, casting her first spell in the duel. He'd been secretly hoping she'd stay in whatever trance had previously held her captive, but apparently he had no such luck.

This was…..baffling. So baffling that Callie could scarcely believe that she was managing to land her spells thus far. By now she was fully expecting something to go horribly wrong. Perhaps a rogue spider would come and sish kebab her again out of nowhere. It was hard to tell what weird and wonderful ways bad luck manifested in the walls of hog warts. That much Callie had been forced to learn rather quickly.

The adrenaline rush the girl hoped for did not come. Instead, Atlas was hit by both spells the opposing side sent her way. Her feet felt sluggish, she was barely able to take a single step from how exhausted she was. Atlas now knew, with certainty, that nothing she could do would keep her on her feet for much longer.

Frost’s healing spell had been particularly strong, which had brought a small and prideful smile to her face. Of course, she had been practicing, and her mother would have been proud of her too, had she been here. Though she had healed her younger teammate, it seemed to just barely keep her standing, as both of her opponents had still managed to land spells on poor Atlas. She could only pray and hope that her handy work would be good enough to suffice for now.

Round Five

Alan was watching the duel, but could not help but feel dissatisfied with how it was turning out. He was not doubting Ravenclaw's strength but it was bothering him that Hufflepuff was not giving it their all, with Frost missing almost all her cues to cast a spell. Atlas would attempt to cast the Curse of the Bogies, however she would narrowly miss her target. In return however, she got hit by two knockback jinxes sent her way from both Callie and Robert, with no mercy. The Hufflepuff girl would collapse on the spot and Alan threw up his arm to pause the duel, leaving enough time for a pair of medic students to rush in and carry the unconscious body away from the scene. 'What a shame,' the fifth year thought as his gaze momentarily followed the scene, before he lowered his arm. "Continue the duel!". He wondered if Frost would simply forfeit as her head was clearly occupied somewhere else.

Frost had no idea what has gotten into her, clearly her mind was wandering elsewhere. Maybe she wasn’t as prepared for dueling as she had hoped.

As Atlas fell unconscious, a pit of dark guilt bubbled up in her stomach. She spoke a quiet “I’m sorry,” to Atlas as they carried her away. The valiant Hufflepuff did her best without much help from Frost. Knowing that she tried her best was enough for Frost to snap out of whatever had a grasp on the girl. Frosty would not let her younger teammate’s actions be in vain. Now she was ready, though admittedly way too late. She would definitely make Atlas and the rest of her team proud. Or she could try, at least.

Callie should’ve felt somewhat guilty considering she just contributed to pulverising a poor old second year. Yet all she could bring herself to feel was relief with a twinge of excitement. She couldn’t even begin to feel some degree of sympathy for Frost, who seemed to be apologising to her snoozing teammate. Truth be told Callie thought it was a little too late for apologies but she wasn’t in much of a position to judge considering her own track record.

Instead of dwelling on things much longer Callie opted to give Robert a crisp high five before returning her focus to the matter at hand. There was still a lot of work to be done and their opponent wasn’t one Callie was quick to underestimate.
