2022, Stage 2 Gryffindor vs Slytherin: Match 1

Before duelling, Sarah had thought herself quite fond of fog. When she was younger, she'd loved running around the manor's gardens, her brother quick on her heels, as they hit from their parents on misty mornings. The damp air had hidden them well and they'd spend hours evading capture and playing tricks on their mother under the cover of the clouds. The memory was somewhat spoiled having been subjected to the fog charm now on one too many occasions. And granted, even she herself had cast it this round - an attempt to lower the precision of anymore spells which would undoubtedly come flying at the snakes today - but she couldn't help but groan when she realised the entire piste was now shrouded in a heavy fog. Though the fact her spell had come out perfectly slightly lessened the annoyance. That, and the fact that this time it had been her opponents spell which backfired, not one coming from her own team. She narrowed her eyes, hoping to see through the fog as much as possible as they continued.

In the fog, Willow couldn't see much except for the purple light that suggested that Santario and Sarah had successfully healed themselves. Alan seemed to have the same idea and healed Galton. Galton was the only one still on offense this round, casting a perfect Wind Jinx. It split and went for Sarah who was able to dodge it, but Santario was not so lucky.

Willow saw Alan and Santario bickered back and forth about the same stuff that her and Santario argued about in their last duel. Willow had to bite her tongue not to say anything, but looked down to the two kitties surrounding her and whispered to them. "I guess she really has changed." Puberty really took the best of people and turned them into the worst.

“I really do not care what any of you think anymore. I am done after this. Quitting everything. Just leave me alone.” The monotone cut out of her voice with the edge of her building rage. The volume of her voice would not raise at all.

Santario braced against the wind jinx the best she could, but it was clear they were outmatched. Were the two just toying with them? The thought made Santario even angrier. Get it done already, for fucks sake. We wish to retreat. Her voice growled inside of her mind, a voice that was less and less recognizable as her own. The slugs churned uncomfortably in her belly, and she wanted nothing more than to crawl into a hole and nap. She would not forfeit, though; that was for worse than losers.

"I don't buy it, people can change but they don't become someone entirely different just like that," he argued back, but the truth was that her words cut deeper than any Diffindo could have accomplished. The hurt could be recognized in his eyes but there was also underlying anger just very faint at the person that stood in front of him, who stole his friend's body and pretended to be her. Because he knew Santario and she was not that.

His wand would repay him with a stream of sonic air. It was like Galton and his wand were having a conversation, like the other duelists were. There was heartbreak, and redemption, and some mundane topics as well. Galton hoped that it would not turn into an argument, one side gone cold on the other, like the it seemed to have with the others.

So Galton would stay quiet, having his own conversation with his wand. Plus, it would probably be a little awkward to jump in right now. Seemed a bit personal.

Sarah felt the cooling buzz of healing magic as she managed to cast the charm at herself, the light headache she'd felt coming on quickly dissipating as she did so. She was pleased to see that her partner's charm seemed to be fairing equally as well, as the Slytherins found a new bout of energy to throw at this duel. Even if the entire thing appeared heavily one-sided and as though the snakes had been on a losing battle since before the first spell had even been flung, Sarah knew neither of them would quit. They'd go down swinging is going down was what eventually happened. It was something the third year had already prepared herself for; not something she expected, she never thought it wise to go into anything already expecting and accepting defeat, but it was something she knew was highly possibly so she was prepared.

What she wasn't prepared for, however, was her partner threatening to 'quit everything' the second the duel was over. The girl hoped that it was simply irrational words being thrown out in the heat of the moment, and realistically, that was most likely the case. After all, Santario was a vital part of their duelling team and her loss would be severely felt. She just hoped her partner would be able to keep her composure long enough to finish this duel and then take a moment to think rationally. Of course it didn't help that she was knocked back once more by Galton's powerful wind. Sarah grimaced, gritting her teeth and she settled in for what was likely going to be a rough time. Nothing new there, she slightly mused to herself.

Willow couldn't help but cringe at the emotional battle happening on the piste in front of her. Alan trying to get through to Santario that was so far gone that she wasn't accepting help from anyone. Her heart ached, especially for Sarah who had to constantly witness it whilst in the middle of the duel.

Alan tried to knockback Santario but she was able to dodge it easily. What she wasn't able to dodge so easily was Galton's spell spread Disarming Charm. Sarah also got hit with it as their wands flew out of their hands somewhere onto the piste.

Luckily they were able to get two spells off before they lost their wand. Santario tried to use the Knockback Jinx against Galton but he was able to dodge it. Sarah took this round to get rid of the fog. As she cast the countercharm the fog dissipated as if it was never there. Thank goodness, because Willow couldn't see a thing. On Alan's side, the fog naturally dissipated.

“You’re fifteen, Alan, time to grow up. Not everyone stays happy; not everyone is a good person. I’ve never been. You’ve just never seen it. Time to stop living in a fairy tale.” Not entirely true nor entirely wrong. Santario inherently was not a good person. She would, in fact, do things typically if they only benefitted her. Was she always like this? No, not always, but it had started well before her changeling status. She also just happened to treat the people closest to her differently. Alan had always been in her inner walls, and he never had to experience the other facets of her personality. Granted, was this a facet of her real personality? Not really. This was exaggerated and amplified. “Stop being such a baby. It’s annoying.” She needed him to hate her.

Santario had been so focused on Alan that she could dodge his spell, the same spell she attempted at Galton. Unfortunately, because of this focus on Alan, she had neglected to remember that the Candy King could still sling spells at both of them. As the fog lifted, Santario saw both of their wands fly from their hands. “Well, fuck…”

Galton's conversation was going well. Civility seemed to be reining supreme as his wand shot off a disarming charm towards the two snakes. The two (Galton and Galton's wand) were certainly not cursing at each other. In fact he had just thanked his wand for the spell they'd conjured up together. "Thank you my good wand friend!" He would say (think) to his wand.

Galton couldn't wait to tell Toad all about the conversation later. She was a bit too far away to be able to hear it with all the chaos and shouting. But maybe with her cat ears she could? Either way, the two would have a lot to go over later.
