Following Greta who choose to go straight on the path, Lavinia walked in the direction of the violin music. It was the way that she had wanted to go originally because the music somehow gave off gloomy and homey vibes at the same time. Continuing down the path, they soon arrived at a dead end with a violin floating mid air. Underneath the violin was an old boot that was ominously dancing.
Lavinia was trying to look at this in the bright way and not think of how scary this could be. She had light that was shining and now it just had to make her feel more comfortable. In honesty it probably wasn’t going to happen but it was worth a shot. Her brain was very good at thinking of all the possibilities to go wrong and she had to tell herself that it was going to be okay.
Hearing Greta ask if it safe, Lavinia finally realized that there was a language gap between them. Somehow she had missed the question before and was too focused on getting rid of her anxiety then talking to her companion. It seemed like Greta didn’t know English that well and that was probably because she was from another school. For some reason, Lavinia never really thought about it that way, for some reason she assumed that everyone would know English as well as her but it turned out she was wrong.
Looking as the scene in front of her, Lavinia tried to evaluate what was really going on. The boot was dancing to the violin but something seemed like it was missing. Turning back to Greta, she said, “I have feeling that there is something here that we are just not seeing, maybe we should look around a little bit more?” Lavinia had no clue how to bring up languages or even talk in a simpler form. All she could hope was that Greta understood. If Greta left the ‘dead end’ then Lavinia would be right behind her but for now she was looking for something more in this dead end.

Both Flash and Katherine proved their dexterity and quick reactions against the sudden attack from the hedges. Rather than risking themselves any further, Flash made the decision to head back the way they came with Kit following behind. They would backtrack a short ways before being able to hear the call of the young Opeila beckoning the pair to join her.
Rounding the final turn, Flash and Kit would reunite with Opelia, forming a small group as they would now have to decide their next actions.

Young Nate seemed to welcome the solitude, showing a bit of bravery in the darkness. To be safe, he would cast Lumos to light their way some. It also revealed some black paint on the wall of the maze reading ‘RUN’. What a strange message… But after taking a moment to decide, it seemed that Nate would try his luck down the central path. A low rumbling began at the closed entrance, almost in anticipation. It was a familiar rumble that might suggest that the message should be followed.
As Nate took their first step forward down the path, the maze started to pursue. Just as it had with the entrance, the walls behind the group began to close. Slowly at first. Vines and roots pulled the massive walls together, blocking and route back. But the speed began to pick up. Faster and faster the maze would start closing. Almost violently as the walls ripped into each other behind the moving student, gaining on them and threatening to consume them if they did not keep moving. But as they continued to move down the dark corridor, it would wind its way into a fork. They had to decide fast as the walls behind them continued to pull closed. The paths looked similar. One to the right, the other two to the left but hesitation or discussion would be costly.

It seemed that the two young girls were not so easily scared off a dead end. Instead, Greta and Lavinia would become detectives of the curious chamber. The boot seemed to pay them no mind and the violin only continued its strange beat. At first glance, there was nothing too interesting about the hedges that made up the chamber’s borders...other than the enchanted violin and boot.
But as they searched, young Greta seemed to be enjoying the little party and even added some clapping to playful music. After a few claps from the girl, the violin made an almost celebratory ‘tada’ noise with the strings as the back hedge began to rumble. The wall itself slowly began to open into a new and secret path for the pair to consider. There was a small wooden sign that poked out of the hedges above the new archway that read ‘The Party Path!’. The girls would now have to decide if they were willing to face this new Party path or turn back the way they came from. The enchanted boot and violin would return to their little jamboree as the students thought.

Though a bit more alarming than expected, Flash's heart rate would eventually calm to a regular beat. His paranoia wasn't triggered yet, this was a regulated summer event with sign-ups that tons of students joined. It was nothing like the fight club... right? Fact of the matter was, he was not prepared for if there was real danger there. Hags... Vladimir's father... they had nothing to do with their eccentric groundskeeper... right? Of all the prefects and staff members Flash investigated and tracked, Mister Céspedes had eluded him. It was probably fine. This was only one of many events he had put on. Flash repeated calming mantras to himself in his head, far away from panic attack still.
When they returned to Opeila, she did not seem as similarly convinced of their safety. It wasn't too much of a surprise, they had both learned to expect death from the unknown. It was not an easy lesson to learn at 11-years-old, that danger can come suddenly, even in the safest places, and cause irreversible harm. Flash couldn't help but wonder what Miss Kit's life had been like so far, whether her school was safer. "Sorry, about the question you tried to ask earlier..." Flash looked at Kit once again. "This maze isn't normally here. It must have been summoned very recently, we don't know any more than you do. Which school are you visiting from?"
Turning back to Opeila after the exchange was over, he'd stick close, holding her hand if it seemed like she was up to it. "Are you alright?"

Nate was alone and it was quiet. At first glance good for him, but not at second glance, because it only ensured that he had more time to think. Too many thoughts about too many negative things. At that moment he regretted being here. He continued down the path and noticed a short message on the side, which he lit with his wand. "Run." But before his head could explode about all his thoughts and this maze, he noticed noises coming from behind him. They were the same sounds he had heard at the beginning when the corridor had closed and Nate stopped for a brief moment and looked behind.
Not only were they the same sounds but the same thing was happening again, but this time the precedence accelerated and the sides of the path closed further and further towards Nate. His eyes wandered again to the word on the wall and he knew this was not a gratuitous request. Immediately his legs started moving and he took off running, getting faster and faster, his athleticism giving him a distinct advantage at this moment. The light on his wand waved wildly back and forth as he ran until at some point it went out due to lack of concentration.
Nate kept running until at some point it stopped. He frantically raised his wand and cast Lumos again. Only now did he notice the fog around him, but he didn't have time for that now, because the path continued to narrow behind him and even if he could gain some advantage, he had to decide quickly. Left or right? Left or right? Left!
He took his legs in his hands and ran to the left, hoping that it had been the right decision.

Not quite certain what the other girl had just said to her, Greta simply glanced over and smiled awkwardly, pretending she'd understood. The moment the girl had turned away, she'd clamped her eyes shut, scolding herself internally for having slacked on her efforts to master the English language. It was so silly. Really, by now, with how many times she'd been invited to visit this cursed school, one might have thought the important of clear communication would have been well and surely ingrained into her noggen. Not so, apparently. And, just as always, she would find herself struggling to keep up and trying vainly to keep her image as intact as possible, all the while being quite certain people thought her entirely a dullard.
Ah well. There was little that could be done about that now, however. With a sigh, she'd continued about the dead end, eyes roaming the foliage, curious to know if there was something else that they were missing. It would never be long, however, before her attention would deviate and divert to the little show in the middle. And when her clapping was eventually met with a little "ta da" by the performers, Greta practically squealed with delight, spinning, eyes alight with glee as they searched for her counterpart, finger pointing towards the middle.
"See? You see, yes? Is make noise of—" She repeated the sound the violin had played in her best re-enactment. And just like that, the hedge at the back of the area began to rumble and part, Greta's voice diminishing to nothing as she stood, aw-struck by the environmental reveal. "Is Par-ty Path.." Greta read, knowing, at least, how to read the English words even if there were times when she couldn't always understand their meaning. "Party. Is fun, yes? Is good, yes?"
Well, she hardly needed any more coaxing than that. Clearly, they'd been clever enough to discover the secret path that would surely lead them forward. "Come, come!" Greta urged, grinning as she bounded forward towards the new way, no hesitation in her step.

If missing fun meant not dying, Opeila had no problem being a bore. She was glad to have avoided the vines and roots, being violently held back against her will... For that she had not recovered from the train attack in January enough. The tug on her hair, the fear and the smell of smoke were still way too alive in her mind.
More and more the Slytherin doubted that it had been a good idea to sign up in the first place. The maze was safe, that was out of question and Opeila knew that, otherwise the Professors would not allow students to enter, but that was not her problem. It was her own mind playing tricks on her, not being willing to believe that those vines had only been a game, something to get the students' adrenaline going. She wasn't as much of a fan of adventure as she used to be, that much was clear. Opeila had learned her lesson about taking risks.
She was grateful that Flash kept the conversation with the other girl going, Opeila didn't feel like she could talk about anything interesting at the moment. Unwanted, the letter came up in her mind, the one that had led her down to the cave underneath the castle, telling her that Flash had been held down there. Opeila knew that now that she had seen the vines there was no going back, or she wouldn't be able to stop worrying if anyone got hurt.
As if Flash had read her mind- well, reading her expression had probably sufficed for him to come to a conclusion about her current state of mind- he stayed close to her now, even offering to hold her hand, to her big surprise. After a second of hesitation, she took it, gratefully. "Thanks.", she muttered under her breath, her cold fingers already warming up a little.
The hint of a smile appeared on her face at his question whether she was alright and she looked up to him. "Are you?", she returned the question before adding "I'm not hurt."
Opeila needed to talk to Flash alone sometime the next days. Once again she felt like she had owed him an explanation for too long.
Turning Left.

The walk back felt both longer and shorter. A new sense of adrenaline coursed through her veins, blue-green eyes watching the vines and hedges with uncertainty. The walls of green were more imposing now that the redhead understood a bit more the full capabilities of the maze. Anything seemed to be within the realm of possibility- magic, after all- but nothing that could truly endanger students. It was summer camp, excitement was part of the requirement. Who knew it would come from plant attacks? The vines would tease her with faint rustling from a distant wind, but nothing moved to attack them as they wandered back to find the last of their trio. The smartest one, some might say. Or perhaps just the luckiest.
"Really? Impressive. I'm from Beauxbatons." There was a clear distinction between French and English, although her typical accent hid within the word. The redhead would fall behind the others, offering what she hoped was a small bit of privacy. Worry dissolved in the presence of a group, but Kit kept the heightened sense of awareness. That probably wasn't the only vine-attack location after all, or the only surprise this recently constructed maze had in store. Thank goodness the second year had decided to sign up for this, who knew how much fun she would have missed.

Looking around the dead end, Lavinia had almost decided that there was nothing else there. In her mind it didn’t make sense because they had only taken a few turns and shouldn’t have been at a dead end just yet. About to leave the area, Lavinia heard the music come to a stop in response to Greta’s clapping. With that the wall behind the violin started to rumble and Lavinia automatically took a few steps backwards. Hearing a sequel from beside her, Lavinia nodding along with Greta’s excitement. Now staring at the hedge, it had opened into a whole new path for travel. There was a sign near the opening that Lavinia couldn’t quite make out but had her worrying a bit.
As quickly as it stoped, the violin was back to playing itself with the boot dancing around it. Listening to Greta read the sign, she tried to be optimistic at the new path being named the ‘party path’. “Oooh the party path, that does sound pretty fun!” she said happily, a little less worried due to the excitement radiating off Greta. There was a chance that this path was just a disguise for something bad but the fact that they had to discover it made that less of a possibility.
Bouncing off of the energy from Greta, Lavinia was actually feeling good about going into the party path. Seeing Greta move forward, Lavinia added, “Alright, let’s go!” Before starting down the same path.

Not wanting to return to the hostile dead end, the reunited small group would decide to turn to the new path. Hopefully the group would be able to avoid any future surprises but there was still a long trek ahead. Taking the left path, the corridor began to weave and turn, getting narrower at every step. Soon the sides of the hedges would be lightly brushing against the students’ shoulders as if they were ready to claim them. But they didn’t. Instead, they would again be faced with a fork and another decision. Left or right. The right path looked to be as narrow as the one they were in, almost overgrown in appearance. The left path opened into a wide path but the fog almost seemed thicker in that direction. Where would they go from here?

With the rapidly approaching threat, Nate was quick in his flight and sprinted away from the approaching wall and took a quick turn to the left. The pathway would slightly wind and turn with the wall of approaching hedges moving methodically behind Nate. The boy was clearly faster than the plants but as he ran he would turn and see the path coming to a dead end, illuminated by his wand.
In the final approach towards the deadend, Nate would stumble and fall into a shallow pool of mud that had been concealed by an illusion. Behind Nate, the wall stopped moving forward but he was now surrounded on all sides by towering hedges with no clear way through or to find a new path. Although the mud he was now sitting in was shallow, he could see that it got deeper at the back of the chamber but perhaps there was a way out of the leafy prison.

Even with the language barrier it seemed that Greta knew that the Party Path might lead them to a bit of fun. Excitedly the girl would start to press towards the path. It seemed that even Lavinia was a bit more relaxed with the girl’s jovial demeanor. So she agreed that it was time to head down the path!
And they wouldn’t be alone. As soon as they crossed the threshold into the path, it seemed that the violin changed to a more excited tune and began to slowly float behind them with the awkwardly dancing boot hopping slowly behind. Within the first few feet there was a part of the hedge carved vaguely into the likeness of Professor Jensen with a sign above that read ‘The Original Party Animal’. The dancing boot and violin seemed to stop moving at the shrine but continued their tune as the students continued on.
As they walked, large party poppers on the side of the hedges began erupting and launched colorful confetti over the girls as they walked. The music was still clear and cheerful as they made their way to a small fork on the party road. A small table was set up covered with donuts and candy, seemingly for any adventurers with a bit of a sweet tooth. To the left was a short path with a clear dead end but a massive carpet on the group. There was a wooden sign that read ‘Hop on for Something MAGICAL!’. To the right, the path seemed to continue and the hedges were covered in party streamers and a smell of fresh cookies could be smelled. But It would be up to the girls to see where they tread next.

Flash felt better after Opeila took his hand, he squeezed her fingers gently when she threw the question back at him. "Yes, neither of us got hurt." It was hard to keep a hold of her hand as the hedges seemed to continue to shorten the path, enough so that the greenery was brushing up against his shoulders. Naturally, though the warm would be dearly missed, their fingers would detangle as they traveled forward. He was still trying to stay in front, just in case something else popped out.
Kit on the other hand seemed to be as good as she ever was, continuing their conversation from earlier. Flash tended to shy away from the foreign students who all seemed to constantly be invited to the castle. He didn't see the point of making friends with them if they didn't stick around to stay his friend. Still, it didn't mean he wasn't curious. "I hear Beauxbaton is a lovely place. Do you like it there?"
It wouldn't be long before they would come across the next choice to make. Looking down both, Flash felt drawn to the more open space. He did not like feeling cramped and tightly packed. Still, it had thick fog, and the last time he investigated something 'interesting' it ended up being a trap. There was at least one way to deal with it, so with his now free hand he pulled out his wand from its hiding place on his hip and extended it.
"This way seems more open." Flash stated, his wand doing the pointing for him.
