Average height and weight for his age, Tavi would fit in with pretty much any crowd if he wasn't so scrappy-looking. With blue eyes that seem to constantly challenge everyone around him and hair that he often lets grow far too long, there's an air about him like he's somebody's stray left out too long. It doesn't help that the clothes he's comfortable in are baggy and full of holes.

The best way to describe Tavi around people is awkward. He grew up in a family where everyone was accepted and welcomed regardless of their faults, which was a double-edged sword because he was accepted but it also meant no one tried to correct the issue of his not being able to communicate well. Most of his life was spent listening rather than talking, so when he does try to talk now it can come off as gruff and aloof.

Nothing could be further from the truth, however. Tavi is loyal to a fault to his loved ones and does have a genuinely big heart - he tries to help those who seem to deserve it and he has a huge deal of empathy for humans, animals... even plants. He much prefers listening to speaking because he takes a genuine interest in the world around him - hearing the lives of others is intriguing to him and collecting stories from both now and hundreds of years in the past is his passion.

His main faults beyond poor communication are an ingrained suspicion and wariness of strangers due to the treatment his people sometimes received by others, and a quick temper that fires up when his protective streak does. With all this together, he finds it difficult to make friends, especially since he spent his childhood moving around and never stayed in one place long enough to develop deep friendships. A wanderlust that lives in his bones always makes him too itchy to move on to the next adventure to create more meaningful relationships than he already has.

Born on the unfortunate date of December 24, 2009, Octavian Kostyovich was given the name of the greatest Roman emperor by his mother and a patronymic name derived from Kostya by his father. This would be the only thing he ever received from his father, as the man took off soon after he was born and left Octavian's mother with one baby only a few months old and another beginning to stir inside her.

Luckily, living in a Ruska Roma family meant that there were always people around to help out - while the people his mother lived with weren't all blood-related, they had chosen each other as family and treated each other as such nonetheless. Octavian Kostyovich (known to those around him as Tavi), loved his family fiercely and ended up becoming quite the protective older brother when more younger siblings were added to his family as men filtered in and out of his mother's life.

Since the nomadic way of life was banned in Russia for the Ruska Roma, Tavi's particular family of Russian Roma people spent much of their time travelling in caravans outside of Russia, only moving to settle in at apartments in Moscow for a few months at a time when there were large events on. They made their money through performing arts and entertainment, and though they never ended up having much money - most people would classify them as poor - they were happy.

Tavi particularly enjoyed traveling through different countries and learning about a number of cultures, although in many places his people were looked upon with suspicion and even occasionally chased out of town. They never did anything wrong, but social status and their way of life caused bad blood sometimes. It was due to this that Tavi ended up developing a temper and wariness of strangers, and if anyone even looked the wrong way at his siblings he'd be ready to go off on a rant or even get physical.

His particular family of people also happened to be wizards, though they never incorporated this into their performances. It was more a comfortable, unspoken thing that they could all use magic, and when they were out in the middle of nowhere in their caravans one could often find dishes being done on their own or instruments plucking out melodies while no hands touched them.

The boy’s own first magic happened when he was nine - his little brother got too close to a cooking pot about to spill. Tavi was running to grab the pot to stop the boiling water from sloshing all over the two-year-old and knew he wouldn’t make it when suddenly the pot righted itself, the liquid moved away from his brother, and all was right again. When he told his mother she wasn’t overly surprised, she just thanked him, kissed his forehead, and told him that the family legacy continued through him.

As he neared eleven, Tavi's mother took him aside and explained to him that going to a magic school was a good idea because it would help him gain control of magic plus open doors for him to do whatever he wanted when he got older. It sounded unappealing at first, especially since he was used to the casual homeschooling life with different family members as teachers, but his siblings all appeared so excited by the idea that he knew he had to go. If not for himself, then to show them that magic schools were alright so that they'd have whatever opportunities they wanted when they were older since it would encourage them to attend the school with him. It also gave him the chance to scout out the school before any of them started and to keep an eye out for those who chose to come after him.

Between Durmstrang and Koldovstoretz, Tavi decided to go with the Russian school since it was closer to the travel path and word was that it was a more open-minded school than the traditional Durmstrang.

⸙ BASIC INFORMATION ⸙
FULL NAME || Tarja Akimovna Blavatsky
SCHOOL || Koldovstoretz
DATE OF BIRTH || August 18, 2010
AGE || 11 years
GROUP || 4
SPECIES || Human
BLOOD STATUS || Half-blood
LANGUAGES || Russian, Finnish, English
⸙ APPEARANCE ⸙
Having just experienced a growth spurt, Tarja is taller than even most boys her age, standing at 155 cm. She has a light skin complexion and blue-gray eyes. The curtain of long hair that reaches the middle of her back seems to be getting darker every year, going from light-blonde when she was a child to nearly-brown dirty-blonde at the age of 11.
⸙ BACKSTORY ⸙
Born to Susanna Soini and Akim Kirillovich Blavatsky, Tarja grew up in a small urban settlement called Kalevala, in the Russian part of Karelia. Her mother being of Finnish descent, the girl lived in a bilingual environment and was influenced by the culture of both, Russia and Finland. As most of the town inhabitant were маглы (Muggles), the family had to conceal their magic, which was easy to the Muggleborn Susanna, but troublesome to Akim who came from a long line of Pureblood duelists that heavily relied on spells in their daily lives. However, being disowned by his family due to his decision to marry someone of no consequence, he had little choice but to move in to live with his wife and her parents. And so it was that Tarja led a mostly-unmagical life, in an old crumbling house, surrounded by nature, exploring the nearby forest and running in the fields; that is, until she was seven years old, when the magic started pouring out of her uncontrollably. First it was a cat stuck on a roof getting safely teleported to the ground, then Tarja's clothes that got torn when she fell from a tree being mended without a sign of imperfection, then a window she shattered while playing dodge-ball with other village kids being repaired immediately; after grandpa Soini once found the girl trying to mount a mysteriously uprooted birch sapling for a flying practice, her parents had no choice but to send her to school before word could spread about supernatural activities in their household. Durmstrang was not an option, since not only did it not accept children younger than 10, but quite a few members of the Blavatsky family had been corrupted by the vile education there, so much so that they went on to become Dark Wizards; neither Akim nor Susanna wanted Tarja to risk falling into that path. Therefore, the girl was sent to Koldovstoretz. She was distraught to part ways with her family and friends, but she obeyed her elders and took a Portkey to the school that would become her second home. Easy-going and amicable, she quickly made new friends, and was soon immensely enjoying her time at the institution. At the age of nine she was deemed advanced enough to join Group 4, meaning her education could begin in earnest. While moderately interested in nature magic, potions and conventional dueling, the girl found she was irresistibly attracted to Flying. That, combined with her inclination towards physical activity, soon made Tarja interested in broom sports. Or, well, levitation sports. Not able to afford a broomstick, much like the majority of other students at the school, she learned to play Quidditch on uprooted trees. Her current goals, however, are to master broom racing and to save up her scholarship money to purchase a real racing broom.
⸙ PERSONALITY ⸙
OVERVIEW || Tarja is easy to get along with. She rarely gets frustrated, and if she does, it goes away quickly. She enjoys meeting new people, socializing with her friends, and being part of the group in general. While in a way competitive, she is also good sport and doesn't mind losing every now and then. Even though she is supportive, cooperative and kind, the girl is not seen as a model student because her desire to do things her way earns her quite a few detentions. On top of that, Tarja is easily distracted and has poor time-management skills, which leads to hurried last-minute homework preparation and barely above-average grades. She is also a thrill-seeker and too curious for her own good; that, combined with her preference for hands-on experience, means she occasionally has to spend time in the hospital wing after a backfired spell, a failed potions experiment, or a disastrous attempt at a fancy Quidditch move.

Growing up in a family considered outcasts by the rest of society, Tavi met his fair share of people and creatures who would normally put others off. His group tended to allow anyone to join them with an easy acceptance - a strict 'no questions, no past' policy for those who wanted to travel away from their homes for various reasons - which meant even through the short amount of years he lived he met a wide variety of the Wizarding World's 'most terrifying.'

Vampires, werewolves, dhampirs, and others all came and went, most of the time without incidence. By the age of six he'd already met at least one from each species and had the chance to get to know some of them, a couple through listening to them tell their stories around the campfire to the nonjudgmental Roma and a couple others through just peering curiously at them as they silently contemplated things. Though a dark aura seemed to hang about these people, Tavi slowly learned not to be scared of them just because of an unnerving appearance.

Judge who they are, not what they are was something that had been ingrained in him since youth, and his mother had explained to him very early on that though there were different types of races, sexualities, religions, cultures, genders, and more, you judged based on the heart of the individual instead of the label attached to them. Anyone could be good, just as anyone could be a Ублюдок (bastard). The more he considered it and the more he spent around different types of people, the less unnerving that dark aura felt.

By the time he'd reached ten, Tavi even had a couple werewolves and vampires in his extended family from various incidents, and he knew that a lot of the time it wasn't their fault they were what they were - shit just happened, for lack of a better term. As a matter of fact, since those species sometimes faced discrimination and ended up outcasts, Tavi began to be more comfortable around them than 'normal' folks. Those who knew what being treated different for something you couldn't control was like tended to be more empathetic and understanding than people who'd grown up privileged. Regardless of the reason why one was an outcast, there was a feeling of kinship with others in the same boat.

Now Tavi remains completely unaffected by the presence of things that would usually strike fear in even wizards. He'd rather strike up a conversation with a wayward werewolf or vampire than someone more mundane who might want to coax him into small talk - small talk is the real terrifying presence in this world.

Name: Fyodor "Fedya" Adrikovich Sapozhnik
School: Koldovstoretz
Year Equivalent: First
Group: Four
Status: Muggleborn
Appearance:
Reducio
Fyodor, which can be shortened to Fedya, has soft, thick brown hair. Normally combed to the side nice and simple, he regards his own appearance and cleanliness quite highly. He has hazel eyes, light browns with hints of green near the centers. His nose is hooked and can almost be described as crooked, the product of falling on his face too many times in childhood. He has olive-toned skin.

Image
fc: Andrew Garfield

Personality:
Reducio
Fedya is quite straight-laced. He likes to believe that he's always right and quite the rule follower, but anyone who knows him well could probably confirm that assumption's incorrectness. He can get into a great deal of trouble with the people he cares for, and that straightforward rule-following is reduced to shreds, in the form of him whining and complaining about things being unsafe and improper.

Fedya is withdrawn, but not quiet. He has a loud voice, quite outspoken, but he prefers to keep himself in check. He's much better at being subtle and minding his own business than he lets on. On the outside, he seems cowardly and fearful. Sure, he would consider himself quite the coward. However, a fierce sense of loyalty and an underlying potential to be brave, already shrouded in self-doubt, lies beneath his skin, dormant. He can often be judgemental and present himself with a 'holier than thou' sort of mentality.

Fedya is an INFJ, the advocate.

History:
Reducio
Fyodor was born on August 27, named with the patronymic Adrikovich after his father, Adrik. Fyodor means 'God's gift'.

Born to Adrik Sapozhnik and Ekaterina Popov in the Chekalin, Fedya was born in Chekalin, Russia, though the two of them considered themselves to be travelers. Travelling was impressed on Fedya from a young age. Every place he considered home would one day be different, and he knew that he would be moved to a new place practically within the hour. This taught him to always think on his feet, assume the worst whenever possible. Though he couldn't quite recall every location his family had relocated to, one would stick out to him; Irkutsk. Home of a flourishing Jewish community, Adrik and Ekaterina, both Ashkenazi Jewish, thought it important to take their young son (then five years old) to see the great synagogue of Irkutsk. Fedya is trilingual, speaking Yiddish, English, and Russian.

Thinking it best to settle down, the triad eventually settled in the small industrial town of Sverdlovsk Oblast, Siberia, Russia. A tight-knit community, they didn't quite fit in. They lived off of next to nothing, poor wages from Adrik's industry job. Ekaterina dedicated herself to staying home and taking care of Fyodor and his newborn sister, Oksana, born in 2017.

Oh, how Fedya loved Oksana. Every moment he wasn't at his маглы (Muggle) school he was with her, showing her toys he made himself. A jar filled with uncooked lentils for a rattle, a stick with yarn tied to the end to dangle above her head.

Despite their financial standing and the rundown house, the family of four was happy in Sverdlovsk Oblast. That is, until the incident.

They were not a magical family at all. In fact, Fyodor's parents were quite old-fashioned when it came to talking of magic and witches. Surely, any accusation made against their family or children would ruin them, bring shame upon them. Despite this, though, Fedya would display trace indicators of magic. Standing still with snow surrounding him, the cold material would melt away beneath his feet. Ball's lost on the roof of their small house, on the outskirts of town, would miraculously roll off, even after being determined by Adrik to be stuck in the gutters.

In December of 2019, Fedya would make the mistake of his life. He had been playing with neighborhood children, making snow angels and snowmen, and having snowball fights. Regular childlike behavior. If asked to recall it, Fedya would credit it as happening outside the local Catholic church, right in the courtyard. He had never been inside.

Fedya balled up a snowball, ready to throw. The snowball flew from his hands in his excitement and hit another child flat in the nose. Initially, it was assumed that it was an accident and he'd thrown the snowball, but once snowballs began pelting the other children, the truth was out. Fedya was found out.

Disgraced and being accused of witchcraft by the маглы, the family fled their home once more. Fyodor was nine. The minds of the маглы were wiped following the incident by higher ups in the Russian wizarding community.

There was an apparent silver lining, though, and Fedya was enrolled and sent to Koldovstoretz by way of portkey before they had to go through the process of relocating the entire family. Fedya moved through the required groups rather quickly, always having been a fast and rather skilled learner. He moved up to group four quickly.

Currently, his family resides in Perm. He writes them frequently, and his father seems to do most of the replying. Ekaterina scarcely writes and when she does, it's to tell him that he's sick and needs healing.

One day, Fyodor hopes to reconnect with his family and be as close as they once were. For now, though, he figures that surviving school is of the essence.

For more than half of her young life Tarja lived with her magical parents and with maternal grandparents who were маглы. Due to the small size of the community where they resided, there could be very few secrets - especially with the inquisitive ancient women in the village who had all the time in the world and chose to spend it by prying into the lives of their neighbours. A lot of work was put into concealing the powers that Susanna and Akim had, and that Tarja was expected to possess as well. Therefore, much to Tarja's and her pureblood father's chagrin, the family lived almost entirely without the use of magic, although everyone in the household knew of its existence.

The girl had to learn the магл ways, and learn she did - fairly easily, too. She understands some of the маглы technology, for starters. She knows how to use a phone even though she never had one herself (her parents did, however, and Tarja quickly proved to be more apt than her father in cracking the mysteries of various settings and functions). While their family never owned a computer, there was one in the village library that children were allowed to access, and Tarja badgered some of the boys into teaching her to use it. However, the games they played failed to captivate her, and she only used the device when browsing for answers to various questions she had.

Tarja is also quite a sporty. Being amicable and extroverted, she befriended most all of the kids in the neighbourhood that were in her age group, and spent the majority of her free time climbing trees, playing tag, hide-and-seek, dodge-ball, football, etc. She grew to be physically strong and enduring thanks to these activities. Had she grown up in an urban environment, and perhaps in a more western country, her attraction to mostly-masculine sports would have earned her the title of a tomboy; but in the Russian village of Kalevala she was just a regular kid. While not particularly interested in fighting, she did get into squabbles with other children that occasionally got physical, and so she learned how to kick, punch, bite, scratch, wrestle and pull hair of those who challenged her unjustly.

At some point during her childhood the young witch also had a brief but intense passion for archery, forcing her grandpa to carve a simple bow and some dull arrows for her to shoot at a target under careful supervision. Her interest in the activity faded away in a few months, but the knowledge of how to use this primitive магл weapon remained. Her skills may have gotten rusty during her magical education, but it likely wouldn't take long to brush them up if she were to get hold of another bow.

All in all, Tarja is quite well versed in the маглы ways. She is able to use their technology to search for information, she is fast and agile thanks to the years spent playing with the neighbourhood kids, she can pack quite a punch if provoked, and she would be able to use a bow as well, if one was present. Yes, she had grown accustomed to using magic at school, but it did not take away the knowledge and skills gained while growing up like a regular магл.

Efficient racing broom although slower nowadays. Top Speed is 5.
When Racing with this broom, you can declare an intended move called Slow Down that reduces your maximum speed by 1 to give you a re-roll (at advantage) against an obstacle you hit. Yes, this is an action declared at the start of your round prior to any rolls where IF you are hit by a something or run into something that you get a second roll. If that roll is successful or not, your speed is still reduced by 1.
[reducio]For more than half of her young life Tarja lived with her magical parents and with maternal grandparents who were маглы.

Vadimir is a tall boy, who has developed a stocky and broad physique from his lifestyle on the family farm. He has lifted many heavy things over a long time, which has resulted in his stature and growth. He has blond hair, blue eyes, and has strong features.

Clearly not someone of wealth, Vadimir's clothing is worn, patched where needed, and could use replacement. But he doesn't mind, so long as it keeps him warm, and serves the purpose. His personal items are few and far between, though he does also have a leather bracelet that he wears on his right wrist - a gift from his mother.

Vadimir is imposing for his age, he knows it, and he uses that in confrontations.

PSYCHOLOGICAL | психологический
STRENGTHS | Brawny, resilient, self-confident, determined
WEAKNESSES | Stubborn, judgmental, dismissive, temper

Vadimir is a very blunt and honest person. He will say what he thinks, whenever he thinks it, and won't apologize for it. Those that are offended need to 'toughen up', by his own words, and Vadimir isn't afraid to receive hard words in return. He is very judgmental about wizards, especially pure-bloods, and feels they are 'soft' and rely too much on magic, which is why most of them are so scrawny and weak.

When it comes to others, Vadimir either likes them or hates them. There's no real in between. He's had to deal with others treating him unkindly in the past, due to his poor family in a small village on a small farm, so he doesn't care much for niceties anymore. If someone acts toward him with insincerity, rudeness or insults - they get the exact same in return. Those that are nicer will still be treated bluntly, and while some might consider that 'rude', Vadimir actually sees it as being sincere and honest.

Vadimir also has a few friends, not many, but those he trusts and cares about have his protection and support; especially if anyone dares to bully or pick on his friends, those instigators will find a harsh word - or quick punch to the nose - for their trouble.

HISTORY | история
Vadimir Markovich Volkov was born in Polnovo (Полново), Russia. Located to the north-west of Moscow, the small Novogorod Oblast community makes a living by farming and selling to nearby villages and cities their livestock and logging supplies. There is limited magly (muggle) entertainment, such as television and radio and video games, with steady electricity during the evenings. But, for the most part, it is a very rural lifestyle dedicated to hard work and long hours of labour.

Vadimir was born to a relatively poor family, to father Mark (Markus) and mother Kristina Volkov, and is an only child. From a young age, Vadimir was given responsibility. At the age of two, he helped tend the chickens - by feeding them - and by the age of four, was helping herd the goats and cattle that the family owned. By the age of seven, Vadimir was tasked with venturing into the forest with his father and helping carry back branches and small logs; and as the boy continued to lift and labour more and more, so did his physical strength and stature increase.

A nickname from elders in the village was little ox.

It turned out that the boy had some wizard blood, from his mother's side. While out in the forest to forrage for wild strawberries, Vadimir and his father Mark, were confronted by a lynx. The animal was clearly hungry, starving even, and refused to be scared away and remained intent on the boy. When the lynx tried to attack, it swiped Mark's arm badly, then ran at Vadimir - but, out of instinct and reflex, the boy summoned his first instance of magic, and knocked the animal backward with a release of force.

It was raw, uncontrolled, and sent the lynx running.

Mark took his son home, where he explained the ordeal. Kristina had to explain the truth, how she had access to magic, and the pair - after almost a week of arguing and deep conversation - finally decided that Vadimir needed to tame his magic; and the choice was made to send the eight year old to Koldovstoretz, a school Kristina had attended for a time, before life went in another direction. But for Vadimir, the magical school known as Koldovstoretz would become his new home, as he was left in the staff's care - the Volkov parents too poor to board the boy, at cost.

Unfortunately, some nasty children at Koldovstoretz used that against Vadimir, calling him abandoned and orphan, and generally tried to upset him. But, being made of sturdy stuff, Vadimir instead turned the tables on them - especially since by the time he was eleven Vadimir was as big as some thirteen year old boys - he began showing his own mean streak. Those who tried to tease him were punched, hard, and then Vadimir would tease them endlessly in return.

Still, over the next three years, Koldovstoretz became a second home. Vadimir worked hard, and though he magic wasn't as easy to him as some, he still earned his place into Group Three. The boy also kept up with his chores, even though he didn't really need to, and it helped him grow big and strong. He even made some friends. But, for the most part, the boy had developed into a brutally honest and blunt individual, who spoke his mind and saw physical weakness as pathetic. Life wasn't just about magic for Vadimir, every wizard and witch also needed to be magly-strong - able to live and strive without reliance only on magic.

So, now into his first year of magical studies, Vadimir remains dedicated to both wizard and magly development. He has started to exercise, partake in sports, and plans to weightlift and improve his magic capabilities at the same time...

Vadimir Markovich Volkov was born into the magly (маглы - Muggle) world, a citizen of Russia, born into a small farming village of Polnovo. From an early age, Vadimir's life was hard work and basic living. His family were poor, but they had a farm - with chicken, goats and cattle. This gave Vadimir a strong sense of responsibility in magly lifestyle from childhood. He wasn't aware of his wizard blood, being half-blood, from his mother Kristina's side. This meant the boy had no reliance on magic for most of his young life.

Caring for animals, cleaning stocks, wood-chopping, foraging. It was all normal and everyday for Vadimir. His village was close to Moscow, which meant that it was fortunate to have electricity during the evenings. This allowed Vadimir to become familiar with television, radio, even a Gamestation 2 - which he received as a gift from his parents, for his sixth birthday. Not only that, but he and his father often repaired things by hand, saving money by not calling on repairmen.

Responsibility and a hard lifestyle, burdened with limited finances, encouraged appreciation of every small thing. When the radio broke, Vadimir's father bought another, and gave the old one to his son to tinker with. It was a simple thing, but playing with the components inside - circuit boards, resistors, capacitors, coils and transformers and speaker - were as fun for Vadimir as any other child on more advanced technology.

Even when Vadimir moved to Koldovstoretz, the young boy held strong to his magly heritage alongside his wizardry one. He didn't want to forget what it was like to live simply, to live with nothing, when magic had the potential to provide almost anything - all without much sacrifice or effort. It almost disgusted Vadimir at how cushy some of the students at Koldovstoretz were, especially the ones raised in wizard predominant lifestyles; they just thought of what they wanted, learned a spell, and waved a wand... and it was seen as an insult to his family in some ways.

For all his life, Vadimir had worked hard, gone without, worked a farm from the age of two - and for what? So magic school could tell him that his life shouldn't have been that hard? No, it was enough to make Vadimir double down on his magly heritage, and he dedicated himself to living in both worlds; his goal would be to toe the line between magic and magly, to use his wizard blood to strengthen his human efforts, and visa versa. Additionally, Vadimir grew to see those that relied solely on magic as weak, especially since he was so physically large and developed, even at the age of eleven (and on the way to being twelve). As far as Vadimir was concerned, why wave a wand, when a punch to the nose could do just as well?

Vadimir vowed he would be a true half-blood; he would balance both worlds.
