Both Amadea and Odette said that they enjoyed playing music. Elsie liked listening to music but never really took interest in playing it. Odette also mentioned that she liked to write songs. Elise found that interesting that she was able to put music to paper. Something not always seen. "I've never wrote a song before. I think that pretty cool." Elsie commented quietly trying to encourage Odette, who seemed to be self-conscious from saying so much.
"I enjoy listening to music once and awhile when I write but I've never taken interest in learning an instrument." Elsie admitted hoping not to offend them, "But I think its awesome you both can play an instrument." Due to lack of space, time, and money her parents never had her take any music lessons. Plus since Elsie was more interested in writing and reading than really any other hobbies. However, she was interested in someday learning how to sew but she left that on the back burner.
"Are there any instrument or song genre you enjoy playing more than others?" She questioned genuinely wanting to know more. Even though she wasn't very musical herself, it was cool listening to other talk about their passions and hobbies.

"Are there any instrument or song genre you enjoy playing more than others?" Elsie asks. Odette smiles at her, happy to be able to talk about something she enjoys. Although she probably enjoys reading more than anything. "I guess it kind of depends. I mean, I love the violin. It's classical and just sounds really beautiful but I also really love the guitar. The guitar is also easier to write music with. I think it would be really difficult to try to play the violin and sing at the same time," she giggled, blushing. No one has ever really liked to hear what Odette enjoyed doing.
"And as for playing or singing certain music, I guess it depends on my mood," she shrugs. "I think I listen to pop a lot so that's kind of an influence but I also like listening to slower music and slower songs that have a lot of meaning. So when I write songs, they usually come from the heart. I tend to keep my emotions and feelings to myself and writing down how I feel in lyrics really tend to help." She gives a small, sad smile as she thinks about how alone she feels a lot of the time. How she didn't feel needed very often.

Amadea listened to the two girls talk about music. Then Elsie asked which instrument she enjoyed the most. She let Odette answer first, as she still needed some time to think about the question. She loved all of the instruments she played and didn't know which one she enjoyed the most.
"To be honest," Amadea said, "I love playing every single one of my instruments that I play. I can't play the violin; the one time I tried playing, it sounded like a cat was screeching." She laughed, remembering the day. Her parents had given her an old family violin because she wanted to expand her repertoire, and she had been so excited to play it. She spent her first few practices learning technique, and thought she was doing well until she actually put the bow on the strings. It only went downhill from there. It was definitely not one of her defining moments. "But to answer your question, I really love playing the flute and the guitar. And the trombone," she said as an afterthought, laughing again. "As for genres, I love to listen to alternative music, but I really love to play jazz. I love how unrestrictive it is, you just let the melody happen as it happens and every time its different."

"Well if you write as good as you draw I'm sure that your book will be a masterpiece. My parents are both writers. I guess I've picked up my love of writing from them. But I tend to do more short stories and journaling. Nothing really impressive." Kyle smiled at the brunette in front of him, a small smile covering her face without her knowing, obviously remembering something about her parents. "And what are your hobbies? You don't have to answer if you don't want to. I was just curious." Kyle felt blood rushed to his cheek as he watched Elsie bit her lip, seemingly calming herself down. Kyle looked down at the ground as he felt his heart start beating faster.
'No! She is pretty, funny, and smart, but no! Mum always said, wait until your at least 13. Middle school, wait until middle school.'
"I wouldn't say it's my favorite," Amadea spoke, jolting Kyle out of his mental babble, "but I really do love it. I love reading books that are meant for little children to see the hidden meanings and the deeper message that the author puts into them. You'd be surprised at how much would go over a little child's head, but not ours." Kyle looked over at Amadea, confused for a second before it hit him, she was talking about her book. He never thought of it like that, seeing hidden meanings and stuff. "Personally, I love to music," Amadea said, leaving Kyle smiling. "It's my main outlet whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed with any emotion. I sing, or play an instrument, or sometimes even write a song, though none of them are always good. But I really love music. I'm so glad there's a rehearsal room here that I can practice in sometimes. I wonder if there are any music classes offered here." Kyle's smile slowly fell, his cheeks beginning to hurt from how genuinely happy the people surrounding him made him feel.
"I love music a lot too. I actually play the violin and the guitar. Oh, and I love singing," Kyle smiled towards Odette, giving her a little pick me up if she needed it. It was cool to be surrounded by so many people who all liked different things, but they were all connected in some way. "I also really love reading. I think that's what I do the most. I love writing my own stories as well and I enjoy writing my own songs. Writing songs is kind of like writing in a diary to me." Kyle nods at her soft smile before watching her tuck a strand of silky brown hair behind her ear.
"I've never wrote a song before. I think that pretty cool." He heard Elsie add in softly. "I've tried to write songs, just for the heck of it, you know? Well, they always, and when I say always, I mean always, turned out to be disasters." Kyle hoped that adding in his little tidbit of failure, he could give Odette and Amadea a boost of confidence everyone needs every now and then. "I enjoy listening to music once and awhile when I write but I've never taken interest in learning an instrument. But I think its awesome you both can play an instrument. "I guess it kind of depends. I mean, I love the violin. It's classical and just sounds really beautiful but I also really love the guitar. The guitar is also easier to write music with. Kyle took in the sad little smiled Odette had placed on her face, immediately feeling worried about her home life and her friendships there. His hand found itself on her shoulder, rubbing hopefully soothing circles with his thumb.
"To be honest," Amadea said, "I love playing every single one of my instruments that I play. I can't play the violin; the one time I tried playing, it sounded like a cat was screeching." Kyle laughed with Amadea, hoping to bring up his now crestfallen mood. He pictured this seemingly perfect girl in a mansion back home, picking up an actual violin for the first time. Extremely excited to play it, she puts the bow to the strings and then all you hear is a deafening screech. "But to answer your question, I really love playing the flute and the guitar. And the trombone," Kyle silently gasped, not knowing that girls played trombone, but also not wanting to offend the girl he knew that did play trombone. "As for genres, I love to listen to alternative music, but I really love to play jazz. I love how unrestrictive it is, you just let the melody happen as it happens and every time its different." Elsie sat quietly listening to the others talk about music and instruments. She felt a little awkward due to not fully able to relate to the others hobby. However, she did find the conversation very intriguing so she opted to listen. Elsie was probably most surprised by Amandea's ability to play the trombone. She hadn't met anyone who could do that before. "What made you want to play the trombone?" Elsie asked.
To be honest, Elsie felt a little under accomplished compared to the other three students. She couldn't play an instrument. She couldn't draw. At least she could write. She had that in common with at least Odette and Kyle. Even so her writing wasn't anything praise-worthy. She never really showed anyone her writing before, besides her family. Maybe one day with enough practice she could become great.
As interesting as the conversation of instrument was, she wanted to change the subject. She knew it was selfish of her but she wanted to ask more questions. 'You have to try eventually.' she tried to mentally lecture, 'besides, they've been kind to you so far. You'll be alright.' She bit her lip once more before daring to speak once more. "What do you all think of this school? Are there any classes you enjoy?" as she waited she rested her hands on the table and her blue eyes looked towards the trio quietly waiting for a reply. All the while hoping to not seem to eager. She hadn't really had a chance to get to know very many people and she certainly didn't want to mess it up.

Amadea smiled at everyone at the table. They all seemed to have common interests, which was great for making conversation. She loved that everyone else loved the things she loved as much as she loved them. This was an amazing way to make some new friends. She listened to the conversation continue, letting everyone else have their time to share their stories and talk. During a break in the conversation, Elsie turned to Amadea and asked her about the trombone.
"To be honest," she said, "I never originally planned to play the trombone, but then I got into jazz and I was listening to all the jazz trombones and I just fell in love with the sound of the trombone and knew that I had to learn how to play it. So I did, and I've been happy ever since. I honestly just love the full sound that the trombone makes. It might not sound cool to everyone, but I love the way the brass makes the sound so full and beautiful." It was hard for her to describe the way the trombone sounded (when played correctly, of course) without actually playing it, but of course she didn't have a trombone at Hogwarts and even if she did, she wouldn't play it in the Great Hall. That would just be embarrassing.
