Quidditch: Slytherin v Hufflepuff Spectators

Hufflepuffs were fascinating creatures. He asked questions, not looking for answers because there were none. He was looking for the teen's reaction. He was looking for what Reid considered to be an answer. Hufflepuffs were rather unique, true ones were anyways. A smile would grace the youth's features. "There has always been something uniquely powerful about your house," he commented sounding a bit older than he ought to. It came not from an experienced vantage point but rather a learned one.

"Where some analyze, tell me that their best player is that big one," he would point out the half giant whose broom looked like an overpriced toothpick. "Or perhaps," his finger traced through the sky and landed on another player, the Seeker. "Citing a feature or their ability to adequately fulfil their role." He would rest a hand on his own chest to refer to himself, "I would have responded with suspicion... presumed you a spy, a villain of some sort." he let his hand rest at his side. "Others, those with an iota more pride," maybe a Gryffindor "might say that they are the team's greatest asset." Explained the strange Slytherin youth.

"I am someone that seeks to betray their basic nature, there is not a great deal to be gained in ambition and cunning," he let out a self-disparaging laugh "at least in the things that matter. But that is hard, slaves to expectation and our basic nature. Pay me no heed," he made a dismissive gesture with his hands.

They never did exchange names. Reid, surname undeclared would share his own. "Well met Reid, Mathias Pride." Most purebloods treated their surname with respect, even reverence. Even those with tenuous relationships with their kin. "First year, Slytherin..." There was no bragging there, it was merely part of the introduction.

"What role did you play? Do you intend to return to the team?" All the questions. "One trick question, who is Slytherin's greatest asset?" A query worthy of asking a Hufflepuff.

Since May had left the Quiddich team to enter the Duelling club, She had felt quite a lot of longing for her old love for brooms, her love of riding in the wind and for seeking the sparkling snitch, But really, May thought that Duelling was a great way to learn spells more, and blend into the magical world, so she had signed up for the duelling club instead.

But she couldn't miss a Quiddich match. Not when she was so fond of the sport. She definitely did not want to miss this game, not when @Heinrich Bezuidenhout was in it.

May had met Heinrich not long ago, when he didn't even know how to ride a broom. She had been stuck in a tree in need of aid, and Heinrich had "come to the rescue", even if he dropped her then...well, anyways, she and Heinrich were friends and she didn't want to miss his first Quiddich match.

She came into the Spectators seats, with a huge flag with the Hufflepuff colours, and a badger. She didnt want them to miss that she was supporting her house, Hufflepuff.

The cheering amist the crowd was clear, and May was amongst them all. She was exited, and crossing her fingers and toes for a win.

The Slytherin lent forward, her elbows resting on either knees as the others spoke to her and one another. Her eyes were focused more on the players down below, but her ears were still listening in on the pair. It wasn't that she was ignoring them, despite it looking that way and most possibly coming across as rude in the process. Falentra just didn't like direct eye contact, especially with so many people being around. There was only so much she could focus on and take it at a time before it became to much.
The pair, amongst others were talking about this Cash? Whoever they were, they seemed quite popular, at least amongst Quidditch. It was all she was hearing about since she had sat down today. Starlee was giving off the impression that she was her number one fangirl, maybe even crushing slightly. The Slytherin couldn't help but roll her eyes at the giddiness this younger Slytherin was giving off. She definitely was bubbly and full of life, very much the opposite of herself.

Cade had drew Falentra back into the conversation by mentioning the band he had formed with this popular student. Her body fell back against the seat and her head turned towards him. This time her stare would not be so cold and judgemental looking but rather be showing signs of interest. ''Oh yeah? Spring Thunder.'' Her brow would raise as she gave slight nod in approval. ''And what do you do in the band, Cade?'' It would seem Falentra had taken an interest in a conversation, for once.

Aly's Text Colour: #1155Cc

Aly Salinger had watched Quidditch games before, sure, but this one felt distinctly different. After all, whilst last year she had been only a spectator in the stands- watching Ravenclaw beat Gryffindor with cheerful glee, and then consecutively be crushed by Slytherin and Hufflepuff- this year she was actually a player, a first-string Keeper on the Ravenclaw team. It was everything she had ever dreamt of, but of course, it meant that she now watched every other Quidditch match with a keen, analytical gaze instead of just enjoying it. What could she as a Keeper do better? It was the only question on her mind nowadays.

Clad in a half-untucked grey argyle sweater and black pants, with her trademark blue Ravenclaw scarf wrapped securely around her neck and a brown leather satchel swung over one shoulder, Aly clambered shivering into the stands, scanning the spectators already gathered there to see if she knew anyone with whom she could possibly sit. There were plenty of people already there- a few gaggles of first-years, some older students, and even a couple of second-years like Aly herself that she vaguely recognized but didn't know well enough to simply go and sit with. Normally, Aly had no problem making friends, but everybody already looked too busy to be meeting new people. Not wanting to interrupt anybody's conversations, the petite brunette made her way to one of the lower parts of the stands, her white boots thudding heavily on the steps as she descended them.

There was an open, empty space there, and Aly happily claimed one of the seats. It had snowed recently, and the seat was still slightly damp- not that she particularly minded. Slinging her satchel off of her shoulder and onto the empty seat beside her, she began to rifle through it, looking for a certain few things. As usual, her bag was full of flowers, some half-dried, others freshly picked, and most in some shade or other of a brilliant blue. Aly's favourite color, of course. As the wind began to pick up more heavily, playing with Aly's frizzy brown curls, the Ravenclaw found herself wishing she'd brought a ribbon to tie back her hair. But alas, she had forgotten.

Instead, she pulled out some scrap parchment, an inkwell, and a heavy-duty quill and set those on the seat beside her, underneath the open flap of her satchel so that they wouldn't be carried off by the brisk breeze. In case I want to take notes later, she remembered. Shivering slightly, but pleased that she hadn't forgotten anything except a hair ribbon, Aly settled back into her seat and glanced out over the pitch.

Most of the players already seemed to be there, and Aly was reminded of her own enjoyable time on the pitch the day prior, playing Keeper for Ravenclaw. Trying to focus on the game in front of her instead of the one that had already been played, she squinted and pushed her messy hair out of her face. Did she recognize any of the players? Some of them looked vaguely familiar, but none that she really knew, just like the spectators in the stands with her... until her green gaze landed on @Lindsey Springhall. Aly wasn't particularly close with the Hufflepuff girl, and had really only had one major interaction with her (on the grounds in the prior month), but still. It was a familiar face, and someone she could root for.

With that, Aly clapped her hands together in loud applause, watching Lindsey mount her broom. "Go Lindsey! You've got this!" she shouted out, her voice blending in with the other cheers from crowd members nearby. She knew full well that Lindsey probably couldn't hear her, but Aly didn't care. After all, half the fun of Quidditch was cheering on your friends!

Mentioning pretty much all the Quidditch players but @Thora Larkston and @Flash Holmwood in particular
Bridget wouldn't have missed this game for anything. It was Slytherin Quidditch, of course, which was already enough to guarantee her attendance. Adding in Thora's promotion to first-string Chaser and Flash's addition to the team just made her that much more excited. Thora had been benched for over a year now, so it was monumental for her to finally get a chance to play. All that time meant she was well acquainted with the team, even if she hadn't been training for this particular position for very long. Both Bridget and Flash had anticipated a much longer wait for a Seeker position to open up. Surprisingly, it really hadn't been all that long, Edric stepping down and Flash taking his place. He'd be on the bench for now, but there was always the possibility that Dan could be knocked off his broom with no one to catch him and Flash would take to the sky, albeit not a particular optimal one. Either way, she was happy his patience had paid off. It was almost enough to make her wish she was still on the Quidditch team... almost. She liked being on the duelling team and had even taken on the role of Co-Captain, so the possibility of switching sports again hadn't been given any real thought.

At least it wasn't pouring this time. Better for watching, not to mention she wouldn't have anyone to brave the weather with. Bridget was going to miss having Flash in the stands with her; last time had been quite enjoyable despite Slytherin's loss. She'd much rather let him have an opportunity to play, though. The weather was quite chilly, snow crunching beneath her boots as she made her way to the stands and wind blowing the loose strands of her hair into her face. Not terribly problematic playing conditions; the wind could send Quaffles a bit off course and make flying more difficult and a lack of gloves could mean frozen hands, which would be hard to play well with, but otherwise, not too bad.

She found a seat near the front with a good view of the Pitch--she'd hate to miss something to the back of someone's head. Not tending to be particularly vocal and doubting anyone playing would even be able to hear her with the chatter of the crowd and the wind, she would offer a thumbs up and a big grin if Thora or Flash looked her way. The moments before the match began were spent taking stock of both sides. Slytherin had had a few shifts in their roster, which of course she already knew about: Tyranni and Thora had joined Nico on the first-string, Alexx starting benched. Thomas had filled Thora's spot as second-string Keeper, and, of course, Flash was the new second-string Seeker. She was admittedly not as familiar with Hufflepuff's roster, the result of most of her interest being directed towards Slytherin's team and not playing Quidditch anymore, but from what she did recall, it had seen some changes, too. Annie Morgan was no longer on the team and she was pretty sure their second-string Chaser was new as well. Reid had left, too, replaced with some girl whose name she was pretty sure started with an L and Co-Captain Ami Procoppio. Was she worried Slytherin could lose again? Well, yes. They were up against Hufflepuff and their continued undefeated streak. Still, it was high time someone broke that streak and it might as well be them.

The game had begun. If anyone were to approach Bridget from then on, they'd probably have to work a bit to wrench her attention away from the game. What could she say, she didn't want to miss a minute of this, especially not the first minutes Thora would ever get to play. Unsurprisingly, Slytherin would only send two of their Chasers after the Quaffle. It seemed Thora had a different task, likely one involving an attempt to ram another player off their broom. Without Alexx, perhaps Thora had become the designated blatcher, something she found a little hard to imagine her best friend doing. She wouldn't be left struggling to picture the scenario for long, Thora streaking towards Hufflepuff's Seeker. The new Hufflepuff Beater would get in the way, throwing off her attempt altogether. Not a great start, but she had faith in her friend. The penalty lap would perhaps allow her to recenter and put the failure behind her.

Tyranni and Nico were doing a pretty good job with the Quaffle, Nico getting the first one and passing it ahead to her teammate and the Co-Captain sending the leather ball past Atlas. Her applause joined other Slytherin supporters; it likely wouldn't matter too much in the grand scheme of the game, but it was a morale boost, an excellent display of teamwork. Tyranni would snatch up the Quaffle next, though she couldn't beat out the Hufflepuff Keeper this time. Aaron Jones finally grabbed it, sending it ahead to one of the new Chasers where he waited by Slytherin's unguarded hoops. He missed rather anticlimactically. 10 to 0.

Erin was undeniably an impressive Beater. Quinn Healy, though... he was something else. The seasoned Hufflepuff Beater and Captain was huge and just too strong to succumb to one of even Erin's powerful bludgers. So instead of using her bat, Erin would attempt to use herself. Bridget grimaced as the blonde missed, only to be hit in the back by a bludger from Quinn. Her breath was held as she plummeted to the ground below--they really could not afford to lose Erin, not against Hufflepuff--and then Koko would save the day, snatching her out of her fall. That would be three players out of commission for a round as they took penalty laps. It always annoyed her when Slytherin found themselves in this position, especially when their penalty laps hadn't even cost the other team anything, but she reminded herself it was early. They still had plenty of time to get their strategy to work.

It wasn't all bad, anyhow. Cassandra had knocked the Hufflepuff Chaser who'd messed up his Finborough Flick, forcing him to pair up on the other Serena's broom. As for the Seekers, she couldn't tell if they'd spotted anything yet. She just hoped Dan would be able to find it this time. Her gaze darting from one bit of action to the next, Bridget offered her silent support to her former team.

Quin had never been to a quidditch match before... and honestly... normally he thought sports were sort of a waste of time. He preferred to put on an audiobook or something, take a field guide and go find things to jump off of or poke at. This however, his first chance to see a live game in a sport most of the world didn't even know about, and with his house team involved? It seemed worth the experience.

His long red hair was tied back in a braid, or an attempt at one, since strands were already working their way loose and fluttering in the slightest gust as though they were trying to escape, and he'd shrugged into an oversized jacket with colorful sewn on patches, and his new hufflepuff scarf, jeans, and sturdy boots that had seen their share of field and muck, and it had left permanent marks on the leather and laces. He'd even packed a thermos full of hot tea to wrap his gloved hands around, not knowing any spells and not sure he wanted to see how pocket hand warmer packs interacted with magical anything.

It was probably the tea that had made him a little late, trying to debate with a passer by how the thermos worked without spells, and that not everything -needed- spells, thank you very much... but he'd clearly lost some of the action. Players already whipping through the sky in a flurry of robes and armor and projectiles that defied everything he'd been taught in a classroom until recently.

It was sports. He hated sports... but this was, however confusing... honestly pretty fascinating. As long as he didn't think about someone making that long drop to the grass below. A good jump off something was all fun and good. He didn't mind that dance with gravity... but falling and knowing there wasn't much good way to stop yourself from breaking something? Brave lot, these players, or foolish. Maybe both.

He shot a look around him at the other spectators that he hoped was casual, flicking open the mouth of the thermos and taking an immediately regretted sip. Great blasted cup... kept things a little too hot sometimes, when he kept getting distracted and not remembering it hadn't had time to cool off yet.

He was already at the scene, standing in the spectator booth high in the air, watching the game with interest. He'd never seen a quidditch game before, and Cooper couldn't help but be fascinated by it. He didn't mind the height of the spectator stands and was fairly certain that the players were very stupid for playing such a dangerous game so high up in the air, but it was still an interesting sport. Cooper could never see himself playing Quidditch, but it was more interesting than rugby was at the very least.

Still, being up in the stands alone was not optimal and so he continued to glance around at the crowd searching for either Merle or Quin, if only because he wanted to share this "momentous occasion" with them. It was definitely not because he was nervous to be without them. He'd gotten used to some of the faces here, especially those within his classes. But that didn't mean a familiar face was unwelcome. He was definitely not the most friendly face and tended to push people away, despite his obvious fear of being alone, but he was coming to enjoy (or at the very least tolerate) the company or Merle and Quin. Especially since he didn't think they would leave him alone even if he wanted them to.

Either way, he continued to flick his eyes back and forth between the game and the stands in order to find his... friends? He wasn't sure if that was the word, but it seemed right.

Finally, his eyes locked onto the familiar face of Quinlan Knight, and a sigh left his lips as though he'd been holding his breath for quite some time. It seemed as though he'd been a little late to the party. Cooper then began to weave through the people in the stand and came to appear by Quin's side. Glancing up at the taller boy, he couldn't help but notice the flask in his hands. With a brief moment of wonder of what was inside the flask, Cooper sighed and said, "you're a bit late, you know," as if pointing out the obvious was very important in this current situation. Then there was a pause on his end before he spoke again. "I think I'm beginning to understand what's going on, but it's still very confusing."

Quidditch was weird. Or well, not weird; Merle understood the game itself. She just didn't understand the appeal of it in general, but was smart enough to keep her mouth shut about it. After all, a competition was a competition at the end of the day, and all that was expected of her was to cheer for her team, and little else. She could do that, even if she felt the sport itself was silly. People enjoyed it, and that was what mattered, she guessed.

Still, getting some fresh air seemed like a good idea, and she wasn't entirely against the game; the players were attractive and watching them would prove a lovely distraction as any. As such, she flicked her long, Hufflepuff scarf securely around her neck as she made her way across the stands, catching sigh of familiar, long red hair and heading towards it. Just as she was getting to Quin's left, Cooper appeared and she huffed softly, "I heard say, that a Wizard is never, in fact, late. He arrives precisely when he means to. Or when tea is ready, whichever comes first," she sat herself down with both boys, following the dipping and swooping while making the appropriate encouragements and booing when needed.

Her hand went over to tap on Quin's drink, silently asking him for permission to take a sip before she looked over at Cooper, "Good luck with that. I've grown up watching it - my grandmother loved it when younger, and I still don't know what's going on half the time. Though to be fair, I always thought Grandma loved watching the players more than she did the game, if you know what I mean. Look at them all go."

Quinlan relaxed, and realized he hadn't been entirely relaxed right until he heard those familiar voices, raising his tea in a silent toast to Cooper as the boy approached, and flashing a grin that was interupted as soon as he accidentally splashed hot tea over his glove.

"Ah! Hot! HOThothothothot!" He hissed, juggling the thermos to his other hand and shaking his hand to cool it. "I'm... not sure I follow either." He admitted. "I've kind of glanced at the rules but then I got bored and just... I dunno. It's sports. Something something get the ball. Yay team?" He offered, before peeling off his wet glove with his teeth and shoving it into a pocket with an irritated noise. One tempered by the arrival of Merle, to whom he offered his thermos. [/b]"Wicked hot."[/b] He warned. She knew he frequently drank his tea black, and sweet, and assumed she'd be prepared for that part. "Glad you could make it, Gandolf." He chuckled "Or am I Gandolf in this equation? Does that make you uh.... ... dang Lord of the Rings is really kind of shy on ladies isn't it? Who would you be... uh... probably Galadriel."

He shrugged to Cooper again and continued. "The flying is kind of cool anyway. I kinda want to know how the balls work. How do they keep the..." He gestured vaguely at the Bludgers and Keepers. "How do the enchantments know to keep em from diving into the crowd? That must be a cool set of spells. Or are the balls smart because of the magic? That's the kind of stuff I want to know."

The moment Quin's tea spilled, Cooper backed up as quickly as he could so that he didn't burn himself the same way his friend did. An annoyed expression flicked across his face but it was gone just as soon as it came. His eyes flicked over to Quin to make sure he was alright before he stepped back into his spot next to the much taller male. "Yeah, I'm not really a sports fan myself. but I have found myself interested in magic and curious about how it works. While I'm not the biggest sports fan, I can admire how the magic works from here."

"Merle," he said as the usually chipper girl found herself next to Quin. "That's one of the only books that actually kept my attention. How did you know?" Wow... sharing information are we now Cooper? he thought to himself and then glanced away from the two and stared at the game in front of him for a few moments.

"...I kinda want to know how the balls work. How do they keep the..." Once again, Cooper found himself tuning in to a conversation from a moment of internal thought. A problem that he's had for quite some time now, despite it being really obnoxious. Anyway, he watched the game for a few moments as he listened to Quin speak. Then he nodded his head in affirmation. "Same. It would be interesting to know the spells required to make those balls work the way they're supposed to. One wrong move and the Bludgers could be detrimental to the audience, not only the players."

Then his eyes glanced at merle and he raised an eyebrow at the "watch the players" part of her comment. He rolled his eyes absentmindedly and then watched the players fly across the sky. "Is that why you watch it now, Merle?" He asked, genuinely curious.
