A Book in Common Finished

Ami whezed and introduced herself awkwardly. Mia cringed a little.

"Nice to meet you Ami, and OMG are you okay, also you're from America that is so cool."

Mae spoke quickly and then winced a bitMia smiled at Mae and shifted her feet anxiously. It seemed as though they were getting along-Ami and Mae-which was good, as Mia had just met them both. If they didn't get along-that would've been disastrous.

"And your Irish! I didn't expect that..."

Mia trailed off, still smiling. Mae was so different than she imagined, but still really nice. Plus, Mia liked her hair, and that was always good. That meant that they had something in common. Mia opened her mouth to start talking again.

"It's good! I like it!"

Mia internally facepalmed and stepped closer to Mae, sucking in a breath.

"Do you guys want to meet in the kitchens? We can go our seperate ways, get food, and then convene in the small hall.."

Mia checked her wrist, which had her small golden watch, usually obscured by her flowing robes.

"It's past dinner time, and we should probably start heading back, as it will take us some time.."

Mia looked around at the girls faces, waiting for thier approval.

"If it's okay, Mia, could you come with me to the kitchens?" Ami asked anxiously, wringing her hands.  Glancing at the setting sun and orange horizon, she had also noticed the time, and her stomach tightened uncomfortably in an effort not to growl in hunger. Hallelujah, she might not eat a meal of just fruit tonight! "You know so much more about the wizarding world than me... I could really use your help in not totally screwing up. What if I say something totally rude to the house-elves?"

Turning to Mae, she added, "Yeah, I'm from the grand old United States of America. We're really not all that cool- in history, we were kind of huge jerks, but I suppose we've gotten a little bit better over time. I like the United Kingdom better, honestly- well, most of the time, when I'm not too homesick for America." Turning the topic back to Mae in order to stop talking about herself, Ami asked, "Have you lived in Ireland all your life? That is your accent, if I'm not mistaken?" God. Ami pinched herself mentally, praying that she hadn't offended Mae in assuming she was Irish. Just because she had the accent didn't mean she was from the country!

"If it's okay, Mia, could you come with me to the kitchens? You know so much more about the wizarding world than me... I could really use your help in not totally screwing up. What if I say something totally rude to the house-elves?"

Mia laughed.

"Yeah, I'm from the grand old United States of America. We're really not all that cool- in history, we were kind of huge jerks, but I suppose we've gotten a little bit better over time. I like the United Kingdom better, honestly- well, most of the time, when I'm not too homesick for America. Have you lived in Ireland all your life? That is your accent, if I'm not mistaken?"

Ami continued talking and wrung her hands. She looked like she just mentally face palmed. Mia responded quickley.

"Yeah she has. Umm...we've owled. That's why we were going to meet here."

Mia smiled once again, trying to hid the fact that she was super nervous.

"And America? I know it isn't that great, but every country has its faults. I was actually born there, in NYC, and that's why I have such a weird accent-a cross between an American one and an English one. I like the English accent better though, so I strive to change my American one."-Mia turned to Ami-"No offense intended."

Mae has thought she had sounded completely dumb. Ami turned to Mia and then said "If it's okay, Mia, could you come with me to the kitchens? You know so much more about the wizarding world than me... I could really use your help in not totally screwing up. What if I say something totally rude to the house-elves?". Mae knew little about house elves as well and wondered if she could accompany them as well, to learn how to talk to them. Ami then turned to Mae and said "Yeah, I'm from the grand old United States of America. That is your accent, if I'm not mistaken?". Mae definitely knew what to say and enjoyed being from Ireland although she had always wanted to learn about other countries. Mia then responded quickly "Yeah she has. Umm...we've owled. That's why we were going to meet here.". She looked at Ami and said

Mae looked at Ami and said "It's no issue to talk about it, Yes I am from Ireland, Dublin to be precise and if you wouldn't mind me comin' with ya to the kitchens, I've never met a house elf before and wondered about them," Mae said with a smile. She turned to Mia "Oh that's why you sound a bit american and a bit British, personally I think's it cool you have a mixed accent it makes you unique,". Mae said with another smile. 

"It's no issue to talk about it," Mae insisted. "Yes, I am from Ireland, Dublin to be precise and if you wouldn't mind me comin' with ya to the kitchens, I've never met a house elf before and wondered about them." Turning to Mia, Mae added, "Oh that's why you sound a bit American and a bit British, personally I think's it cool you have a mixed accent it makes you unique."

"Dublin..." Ami sighed happily. "I remember Dublin. Good food, good drink, but way too much alcohol. I loved it, though, when I visited it. The scenery is pretty amazing out there- I've never seen greener fields anywhere else," she admitted in a confidential tone. "Although I have heard Iceland has some pretty phenomenal views, too. But the food in Ireland totally makes up for it."

Ami beamed at Mae and Mia, pleased with how well this was going, considering she had accidentally crashed and imposed on their planned meeting. "Alright. Let's all go on to the kitchens, then. Am I the only one starving?" She licked her lips in exaggeration and laughed, tossing her auburn mane back for effect. "Let's go, Toto!" she quipped, offering an arm to Mia and Mae.

"Dublin... I remember Dublin. Good food, good drink, but way too much alcohol. I loved it, though, when I visited it. The scenery is pretty amazing out there- I've never seen greener fields anywhere else, although I have heard Iceland has some pretty phenomenal views, too. But the food in Ireland totally makes up for it. Alright. Let's all go on to the kitchens, then. Am I the only one starving? Let's go, Toto!"

Ami tossed her hair and offered an arm to each of the girls surrounding her. Mia comically took it, making a show of it, and pretended to be galloping off with the girls in tow. Mia laughed. For meeting Ami just now, same with Mae, and speaking to her for about 10 minutes, Mia was getting along with both of them well enough.

The girls all started walking towards the enterance, and Mia could only think of food.

"I'm definately hungry. I wonder if the house elves have any tofu chicken that we can all share. My cousin told me that it is simply delicious here, and we can all eat it! Unless you guys don't do faux meat..."

Mia trailed off, and looked ahead.

"It'll take us a few minutes to get to the enterance. On the way we should plan out what we want to eat. No fruit for you Ami. You're probably sick of it!"

Mia smiled, and continued walking with the girls.

Once Mae told Ami about where she was from this is what she said "Dublin... I remember Dublin. Good food, good drink, but way too much alcohol. I loved it, though, when I visited it. She then licked her lips and flicked her hair back for dramatic effect. Mae couldn't help but slightly giggle. Mae didn't have the slightest clue how Tofu was fake but it did sound incredibly good, especially after a long day, "It'll take us a few minutes to get to the enterance. Mae yet again had no clue what they were talking about but she was sure Ami would explain "Yeah Dublin is incredibly big and the fields are super green, also I don't mean to sound a bit nosy but why don't you like fruit," Mae gently asked Ami.

Ami sighed, rolling her eyes dramatically. "I like fruit, it's just that it's the only thing I've been eating since I've got here. So, I do like them, I'm just kind of sick of them, you know? I'm not sure where the kitchens are, or how to get into them, so I can't talk to the house-elves about my whole... veganism thing. I don't know what they use to cook their vegetables with, so I can't eat those- I've mostly been drinking a ton of tea and eating loads of fruits. Some sodas, too, if they're vegan."

Upon entering the castle, Ami looked left, right, up, and down, trying to figure out where she was trying to go. Kitchens, kitchens, kitchens... where were they? "Which way?" she asked, looking around in confusion. "I have no idea where we're going. I've heard it's by my common room, sort of... but I still don't know where it is," she admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck. "Mia, since you're the only one who knows what she's doing... lead the way!"

Mia laughed and then rolled her eyes, looking around the hallway upon entering the castle.

"Merlin. Then we're all screwed."

Mia turned to the two girls her age around her, brushing her hair out of her face with her hand.

"Ok. So I'm pretty sure that the kitchens are down by the Slytherin Commons, so we have to take this staircase."

Mia pointed towards an ominous-looking hole in the side of the wall. She stepped into it and walked down, holding the railing tightly. It wound around, the lights flickering on and off, until they were in a large carpeted hallway, lit up only by torches. The echo of various voices could be heard. Mia shivered. It was often cold down here, and today was no exception. Mia turned back to the other two girls, who had, thankfully, made it down the stairs in one piece.

"Just right around the corner here. Next to the portrait of Mildred Stones."

Mia pointed to a portrait of a fat, pale woman with tufts of orange hair, in a large spotted hat.

"Quite peculiar isn't she. Deaf, too, so we can make fun of her all we want. Apparently she found the magical properties of some types of stone, like granite."

"I like fruit, it's just that it's the only thing I've been eating since I've got here. So, I do like them, I'm just kind of sick of them, you know? I'm not sure where the kitchens are, or how to get into them, so I can't talk to the house-elves about my whole... veganism thing. I don't know what they use to cook their vegetables with, so I can't eat those- I've mostly been drinking a ton of tea and eating loads of fruits. Some sodas, too, if they're vegan." Ami briefly explained to Mae. Oh she is a vegan, that explains a lot. Mae said in her head, she was starting to come to enjoy both girls company. Mae was drifiting off a bit but could hear Ami asking Mia where the kitchens were, Mae snapped into the conversation as much as she could. She had a habit of looking off in space as her mom says. "Merlin. Then we're all screwed." Mia said "Ok. So I'm pretty sure that the kitchens are down by the Slytherin Commons, so we have to take this staircase." she added. Mae had only ever been to the Ravenclaw common room and she had never seen what it had looked like. "Just right around the corner here. Next to the portrait of Mildred Stones." She said pointing to a portrait of a well overweight pale woman. "Quite peculiar isn't she. Deaf, too, so we can make fun of her all we want. Apparently she found the magical properties of some types of stone, like granite." she added. "Personally, I wouldn't make fun of her just cause she's deaf, also what does the Slytherin common room look like, I know others from different houses aren't allowed in any other common room but theirs." Mae inquired, she double checked Mia's robes, she was a Slytherin she would know. She turned to Ami "Also your a vegan cool, I've always wondered myself what the difference between a vegan and a vegetarian were, if I had to eat only fruit since coming here I would be sick of it too," Mae said with a smile.
