Group B: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw
This duel was going absolutely nowhere. Of course, Katrina's spell had to miss again. Sure, the other team's fourth year managed to paralyze Calanthe, but honestly, it did nothing. Katrina was always so good at casting spells, but her aiming was always just off.
Mars' jeer did it. Enough was enough, "Well maybe if you stopped talking, you could actually land a spell and we wouldn't be sitting here for an hour dodging," Katrina regretted the tease as soon as it left her mouth. This wasn't her! She was caring and polite and not rude and annoying. However, the internal war was hidden from the outside view. The only thing any onlooker could see was the fact that Katrina had a plan.

-"Petrificus totalus," Cel incanted, and thanked her childhood Latin obsession for her enunciation. It was a long incantation, and very easy to trip on, especially under the stress of a duel, but at least she didn't have anything to dodge. Briefly she took a moment to sympathize for Mars, but felt pride spark in her chest when they ducked away from both jets of light, wincing a little when Calanthe's spell nearly grazed them.
She got her revenge, though—her spell hit right on target, paralyzing her on the spot. Cel allowed herself a quick smile and even a wink tossed over her shoulder as she whirled back into position next to her partner. "Great dodge," she said—she wasn't surprised that Mars's spell hadn't hit when they had to evade two spells at once. Apparently their taunting had worked.
"Maybe if you hit something, then one of us would be unconscious for now, but that doesn't seem to be happening either," she shrugged, inwardly cackling at herself. Was she even brave enough to undergo the chastisement she'd get from Svana if her stepmother found out she was encouraging and even participating in trash talk? Well, now wasn't the time to focus on that. At any rate, with one opponent frozen, there was only one source of danger to keep track of. Narrowing her eyes, she gripped her wand more securely, readying herself to cast or dodge, light on her feet.-

Unable to raise her wand, Calanthe felt sympathy for her partner's previous predicament. Obsessed with the curse but unable to learn it in time for the duel, she lost some of the marvel she once held for the spell. Being afflicted with it sucked, to be succinct. Katrina's irritation radiated off her shoulders, but Calanthe was surprised to hear her speak up. Their skills made them good partners, but she was unsure if they would match as friends. Maybe they could, when the duel was over. The sneeze that had been building since last round came out in sputters, affected by the body-bind curse. Calanthe, imagining herself pursing her lips, wondered what her partner's next move would be.

Maybe it was by her own strength, maybe it was due to her ally's Finite but Miss Gray would first feel her paralysis give a little – just a twitch of her fingers – before dissipating completely, just in time for a massive sneeze. Whether or not her spell was solely responsible for freeing her ally from the curse, Miss Walker's aim had been true. It seemed luck was back on the lion's side. It certainly wasn't on Mars T'ien's side, as their spell failed, nor was it on Miss Gray's side, whose spell went far over Miss Walker's head.
Zahid settled in for what had all the markings of a (comparatively) long duel, seeing as – aside from Miss Choi's spell-induced cold – all the participants were no worse off than when they started.

Mars probably let out the biggest grin one could when they heard Katrina's rebuttal. Were they supposed to be offended? Probably. Were they both an incredible idiot and too high off the adrenaline of the duel to really feel the sting? Yes, definitely yes.
"Yes, Katrina!" they exclaimed, pointing their wand at her face. They could feel the build of the spell in their fingertips, but the second they tried to release it, it sputtered, stopping at their wand end. Damn. At least it hadn't backfired. They turned back to their opponent. "Ah, it's so much better when I'm not the only one screaming on the field."
Speaking of which, Mars glanced at Cel, smiling wider as they caught her offering a retort of her own. Mmm, it was fun to drag people into this game of theirs. That's what duelling was meant to be, no? Fun.
They sighed slightly as their partner's spell flew over Katrina's head. This luck was incredible. At the mention of it, they turned to see Katrina's General Counter-Spell free the other lioness from her bonds. From the looks of it, she probably would have broken free of her out accord as well. Shoot.
"So, two on two again," they mumbled. What to do, what to do. Mars glanced at the Gryffindor that'd just came to her feet and smiled.

Group B: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw
-Damn, she'd missed. She cursed under her breath—both of her opponents were free, too, now, which was not an amazing sign for them, but at least nobody had gotten hurt so far, still. Her shot went wide as Katrina cast something on Calanthe—a counterspell, apparently; she'd been sure that her spell had been strong and long-lasting had it been left to dissipate by itself, but oh well. Pulling back for a moment, she adjusted her robes, tugging at the collar before getting back in stance.
Her partner's curse failed too. That was too bad, but again, at least it hadn't backfired—that spell had worked at the beginning of the duel, but it was a difficult one, and fatigue might of gotten to them at this point, doubled with the split in attention at potentially needing to dodge. Two on two, they'd said—well, that was okay. Cel took a deep breath and exhaled, waiting for her natural respiratory pause to counter any shake in her hand—these misses were getting annoying.-

Gods, this is tiring. Maybe it was a mistake for Calanthe to sign up. Sure, she liked to think she was skilled at spellcasting, but the young witch had no talent for patience. The mounting fever finally hit its mark and caused her already shaking legs to wobble even more. Still, the fire within the Gryffindor burned brightly, even if she refused to let others see it. She would continue this duel on two feet, for the pride of the house... Ew. Am I getting soft for Gryffindor? That's new.

Miss Walker seemed a bit indecisive and hesitated a moment too long, not getting a spell out in time with her fellow duellists. Mars T'ien forewent casting entirely and fully threw themselves into dodging. A good choice as Miss Choi's aim would have hit them expertly and now only passed through the area they'd occupied moments before. Miss Choi on the other hand seemed too preoccupied with casting her own spell to notice the spell heading her way and so Miss Gray's cast managed to rip her wand from her grip.
Still, aside from Miss Choi looking a bit peaky, everyone was still doing quite well and there was far less fire involved than Zahid had come to expect from these duels which truly was a nice surprise. He really did not understand the school's penchant for anything to do with fire.
