The Way Things Change
Willow's comment turned Flash's cheeky smile into a broad, genuine one. She was right, and certainly everyone there knew it. Her addition about him was a welcome one though, and brought some warmth to the previously sullen boy. "Thank you." He said it quietly, even though the fact that Willow trusted him was not news. It still felt good to hear. He'd share that smile with Opeila when she spoke and looked his way. He knew she was one of the people who put the secret ball on, but she had also tried to get a bunch of Slytherins together to find out more about Vladimir at the same time. She had really meant well, he knew she had intended it out of a desire to help everyone. That was part of why he still admired her through the ordeals of the year, as clumsy and misguided as some of her attempts at helping were.
From there, Willow offered her bag of the infamous beans to everyone. Roulette was right, eating those beans usually meant you either won or lost, something good or something terrible. Flash was not usually the type to trifle with such odds, but he was indeed the type to cave to peer pressure if it meant refusing would make him the odd man out. He had tried it once before, with Syl as it so happened, and watched with slight nervousness as Willow and Sylvain made disgusted faces as they ate. Opeila seemed to be on the luckier side, giving Flash slight hope as he also quietly reached for his judgement.
Popping it in quickly as to 'get it over with', the first bite quickly revealed the flavor. Chocolate cake. A bit ironic, since he had been eating chocolate only a second ago. The cake flavor was definitely also there though. It was a bit strange, to be honest, but he wasn't about to complain. "That's funny. Chocolate cake." He had made it out unscathed, relief would be plain on his face.
The candy would make the rest of the day's conversation a lot lighter, the cats having calmed down considerably and the introductions and updates having passed. There was another entire year ahead of them all, but Flash didn't doubt that each of them would still be friends this time next year.
For we dreamed a lot//And we schemed a lot//And we tried to sing of love before the stage fell apart
