Sticks and Stones can Break your Bones.. Finished

"Yes, we are really close," Miranda replied with a clouded expression. It sounded like Flash might be speaking from experience, which made her feel a bit guilty. But it was possible he'd just heard a story from some other student he'd helped in a time of need - she wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. But if not...Miranda couldn't imagine what life would have been like without Cedar to keep her company. "And I realize that probably isn't always the case, which makes me feel fortunate." And guilty, her mind continued, although she didn't say it aloud.

She wondered briefly how she could make it up to Flash. He hadn't been obligated to help her, and yet he still had. Surely there was something she could do for him? But what...the only things she seemed to be any good at around here was school work - not that there was much else to do, though, other than make friends (or enemies). Miranda could offer to help him with his school work, but what if he didn't want that, or he didn't need her help? She'd just end up making a fool of herself.

When Flash spoke up again, she put the matter from her mind and focused on his words, although a small part of her focus continued to think it over.

"...I will," Miranda said after a brief hesitation, although she hoped there wouldn't be a need. There was a beat, then she too stood up. Apparently the conversation was drawing to a close. "As for friends...yes, I'd like that too." She waited to listen to anything he might say afterward (if anything), then made her leave after a hurried goodbye. The feelings she felt upon leaving the room were far removed from the panicky ones she'd felt upon entering. The conversation had done more than calmed her - she felt a new confidence as well. Hopefully, the next volley of taunts wouldn't affect her as deeply.
Miranda leaves the thread unless stopped
