Quidditch Game
With the game quickly devolving into more of an aerial war than the usual Quidditch game, Atlas again found her competitive nature filling her veins with a desire to win by any means necessary. If the other team was headhunting for Ethen, then Atlas would be happy to shove that aggression right back. They weren't making it easy but with her team shifting to a combined front, she thought they would have a good chance to keep their opponents guessing and on their guard. Anything to give their seeker those extra few seconds he needed to nab the snitch.
Atlas believed in Ethen's abilities and they had drilled the chase what seemed like a million times but she knew it was always different in the heat of the game. There was a rush of adrenaline as Atlas readied herself for a Parkin's Pincer. The aggressive play would hopefully overwhelm the other team, at least Atlas hoped it would. Regardless, there was a part of Atlas that wondered how much fun it would be to be stationed back in front of the goalposts. There was something about the more aggressive playstyle that was proving exhilarating. As Serena, Heinrich and her worked together to swarm Nico, she felt a mischievous smile stretching across her face.
The smile faded when she watched Ethen get separated from his broom. A sudden rush of concern pulsed through her. Luckily Aaron had been there to quickly catch the plummeting boy but it had been too close for her liking. Refocusing her gaze on the task at hand she was determined more than ever beat them. Tightening her grip on her broom, Atlas continued forward ready to exact revenge for the attacks her team had suffered.

Really, who even cared about the quaffle anymore? At this point, it was very clear that the end of the game could be approaching within mere moments. A buzz circulated the stadium, the very air seeming to electrify with the compounded anticipation of spectator and player alike. The seekers had been diving again and again, while the beaters whacked relentlessly at the bludgers and chasers stooped to desperate levels of blatching to do whatever had to be done to deter the opposing team. Any thought of scoring some easy points had been abandoned quite some time ago; that wasn't about to change now.
Once again, the players on the pitch dispersed to tend swiftly to their individual agendas. Racing around the perimeter of the stands was Heinrich. For a second time that game, he had spear-headed an assault with a well executed Parkin's Pincer on Nico and had to pay the price. Elsewhere, his teammates exchanged roles. As Aaron now held the responsibility of carrying their seeker, Serena filled his place. Dogging the combined shadows of Ethen and Aaron, the chaser could be seen keeping close enough to them that if either should fall, she would be able to zip in swiftly to save them.
Slytherin, meanwhile, was in a rough position. Although still scraping by with six players, four were doubled up. Tyranni continued to ferry Dan around, following closely to his directives in their pursuit of the snitch. With a potential victory so close to hand, it wasn't likely that the two would find any opportunity to return him to his broom. Perhaps that was for the best, anyway. Time and again, Tyranni had proven herself to be an asset in saving his.
The same could not be said for Thora who had served as lifeguard for the knocked Nico. It seemed that as soon as the dhampir's safety was assured, the two were racing brazenly for the lost broom, bent on regaining independence. Even Koko seemed to have forsaken her precious rings. Rather than return to their proximity on her return from her speedy penalty, she shadowed as closely as she was able to Dan and Tyranni, forsaking the quaffle in favour of ensuring their safety.

With Nico and Thora racing to return the former to her broom and Percival hurrying to complete his penalty before he could resume play, the field all but cleared of Slytherin players. No doubt breaths were held both in the stands and in the air as the seekers continued to pit against each other in a last-ditch race to close in on the golden snitch, but it could still be anyone's game. Dan was nearly defenceless and if the badgers could just knock him from his broom, it could pave their way to victory. There was havoc in need of wrecking and more than a few donned in yellow garb who were willing to step up to do so.
At opportune moment, Lindsey went after a bludger to claim as her own. For a beater, she'd been rather late to the game insofar as showing any offense. Hers had been a game of defence, ensuring she kept their up-and-coming seeker as free from harm as possible and allow him to hunt uninhibited. While she'd done marvellously, there would be those who might spout that the best defence was a good offence. Well, she'd shifted her tune only recently, sending a bludger straight for Dan and Tyranni. Although not enough to knock them from their shared broom, the impact had been felt.
Evidently, she sought to finish the job. With a sharp sounding smack, another bludger careened towards the pair. It was a solid hit. On track and true. Whatever ill notions that had previously impeded Dan's prowess previously, however, seemed to be shaken. He didn't have to rely on Tyranni to save him this time. Despite his fixation on the snitch, a last second duck saw the bludger sail harmlessly past him. Close. But close didn't have a place in the game of quidditch.
No matter, where one bludger missed, surely the next would not. Just like last time, Lindsey wasn't the only one to direct her attentions on the diving seeker and his ride. Joining her in a two-pronged attack, Ami had secured command of the second wayward bludger. An overpowering CRACK! that echoed the stands on a level that rivalled Hufflepuff's half-giant beater, Ami lined up her shot. And what a shot it was. If anyone held any doubt about the new deputy captain's business being up on that broom, they could put them to rest now. The iron ball positively cannoned towards the opposing seeker. Dan and Tyranni in mid dive as they were chasing after the snitch, they hardly stood a chance. Neither Tyranni's unnatural knowing nor Dan's slipperiness would save them. Taking the full force of the blow, Tyranni would be knocked clean from her broom, and without her driving, the sudden loss of control would see Dan free falling as well.
And here was the moment that every designated saviour no doubt despised. The choice. Who to save? Whether she paused to ponder or not, Koko did end up diving for Dan. But even she wasn't let off easy. Even as she hurried to save her captain, a yellow blur barrelled towards her. Perhaps the game was building up to this moment. In many ways, both teams' keepers had been shifting ever closer in their face-offs. This time, however, it wasn't a quaffle that Atlas lobbed towards her counter-part, but rather herself. There was no contest, though. Koko evaded easily, avoiding a collision and solidly maintaining her seat upon the broom. A moment later and she was able to spare Dan the fate that met the unconscious Tyranni as she fell harmlessly—thanks to the swift intervention of a watchful individual's slow-falling charm—to the ground.
"Penalty lap to Atlas Reid for attempted blatching!" announced the referee within seconds.
Not that blatches, bludgers, or penalty laps would matter...

The game had approached its climax. Head to head, Ethen and Dan had dove time and again, racing against each other for the snitch. Slytherin had carved out the advantage of first sighting, but ill luck, nerves, and an unrelenting assault from Hufflepuff had allowed Ethen just enough time to catch up. Perhaps Slytherin thought they had gained the upperhand once again after their well-placed strike that had seen Ethen take a tumble from his broom moments earlier. With both seekers doubled up with star chasers of their respective teams, the field had been levelled so to speak.
Who would come out on top? Would the game conclude? Would the snitch escape yet again?
More than a few members of the crowd were on their seats when the two pairs had recollected themselves and aligned for another harrowing dive. Figures blurred, uniforms whipped and twisted, and wind howled as their spiral dives pulled from them awareness of their surroundings and built up a tunnelling focus upon the only thing that mattered. The snitch.
Only one could win, though. Hands would outstretch. Fingers reached and scraped and scrabbled in earnest for a hard-fought and desperately needed win. And fingers would close around cold metal. The prize for that? A sudden break from the spell as a bludger sent one of the pairs sailing. But it didn't matter. As Dan was pulled safely onto Koko's broom, the outcome of the contest would be displayed in the little glint of gold that shone between his fingers. Finally, after several berating himself for several lost games carried upon his shoulders, he had done it. Dan had caught the snitch. Slytherin had defeated Hufflepuff, ended their winning streak, and earned themselves their first win of the season!
