I might get discord in the next year but why do so many people not like it? :]

It's supposed to be a safe chatting website, but creeps keep on there and are predators. It has caused multiple kidnappings, and inappropriate content promoting that some countries have ban it. Then there is the constant account hacking or getting banned. Not to mention the bullying, classism, racism, xenophobia, and NSFW jokes. It makes people seriously uncomfortable, plus there are also streamers or random people raiding your server, or you getting doxed or stalked. And also people you trusted leaking your personal info.

I saw this yesterday and wanted to address some of the concerns raised.

First, those concerns are 100% valid! You do have to be very careful when heading out into the wild lands of social media. IRL, I don't have any social media and can't recommend enough getting off of TikTok, Instagram, and just about everything else remotely like social media.

Second, regarding discord, Hio does have a private discord server. What does this mean? Does it mean our discord is full of random bullies or is a place where anyone can get in?

NOPE!

So what sets our Hio server apart anyway??

To add to what Colin said, as someone who is on very minimal social media, I have been on hio’s discord and found it perfectly safe. It’s pretty similar to hio, as it’s all the same people and the community looks after it well. I might be a little hesitant about going on discord generally, but I personally wouldn’t worry about hio’s server

1. Just for everyone's information, and hopefully peace of mind, our server is very secure. Much more secure than most you'll find. The ONLY people who are allowed into the Hio server are actual Hio members. These are people who get their invitation from this site. And the only way to access that invitation is to create a Hio account. Each person who joins the server is vetted by a Staff member to make sure they're a site member.

2. Furthermore, the Hio discord server follows the same rules and rating standards we have on site. We don't allow bullying of any kind or doxxing or inappropriate or NSFW content here on site; we don't allow those things on the server. Just for example, I can't even write The Four Letter Word on the discord server because a) of the no OOC cussing rule and b) the server is set up to prevent that. You might find some unfamiliar names there, but you'll find the same basic culture.

3. The same team of Staff and Admin are always present on the discord server as they are on site and are alert to any problems going on in both forums. You may not always see them, but they do take online safety & security seriously. If anyone tries to harass or stalk we will do everything in our power to stop it (and yes, some of us have been victimised online in various ways). Our primary goal and function as staff is to ensure that Hio and the Hio discord server actually remain safe online spaces for all of us.

4. Lastly, for anyone here who has been thinking of joining the server but are unsure after reading the above quote, or who has any qualms whatsoever about how we operate the server, or who has had bad experiences with discord in the past, I'd like to reassure you: the people you meet in the server are the same basically the same wacky bunch people who you find here. And there's much the same chaos! There are no outsiders. The same staff that monitors the site monitors the server. If you've had bad experiences on discord in the past, give our server a try! I believe you'll find it a very different experience!

Despite what I said earlier about Discord, as far as I'm concerned, the h.io Discord is the safest one I have been on; the rules are pretty similar to the ones on the site. Everyone is kind and respectful, like on the site, so there is no need to be worried. It's also pretty fun once you settle in
