The Slytherin Table 2017 - 2018
‘Well, that is somewhat...awkward,’ Alma mentally mused as her request went entirely ignored. She’d hoped that at least someone would have helped her, yet they were all so busy with their conversations that they probably didn’t even hear her. She was just contemplating standing up and awkwardly walking around the table to fetch herself some water when a jug of it was placed in front of her.
She looked up to see a boy standing in front of the table where she sat. Brown hair, brown eyes and an awkward smile on his face as if he didn’t quite know what to do with himself.
Her smile broadened when he introduced himself so politely.
“Please,” Alma said, motioning to the free space in front of her. “Sit down if you’d like. And thank you for the water. I was afraid I’d simply have to perish now, with my request for water ignored so thouroughly. My name is Alma Malvado, pleasure to meet you. You said your name was Edric Banes? You wouldn’t, by chance, be related to the Banes family that breed winged creatures, would you? I read the most fascinating story about Hippogriff-breeding and, should you be actually related, would have a few questions about your family.”

Edric was a bit taken aback by the flood of words that sweeped across him when Alma started to talk, but quickly closed his semi-open mouth and took the seat he had been offered. He didn't want to look out of place standing there like an useless flobberworm.
"Yes, I'm Edric Banes," he answered slowly, his brain needing time to process all the information that had been thrown at his head so suddenly. He blinked, slighty confused but also quite a bit honored that Alma knew about his family. "Edric Banes from the Banes family, I mean. The one that breeds hippogriffs, and the odd Granian, yes."
"You read about hippogriff-breeding? Wow, that's..." He was somewhat lost for words. Edric had never assumed that there would be another first year who knew anything about hippogriffs.
"Please, ask me anything you want," he offered honestly. "I'll tell you as much as I can. I mean I don't know that much compared to my dad or my grandma, but I still love hippogriffs. They are amazing creatures! Very proud and you have to treat them with a lot of respect or they'll consider you an enemy and attack, but it's definitely worth it."

Cassie just glared at Sebastian. Did he just suggest that she didn't fit in Slytherin? Man, he was getting on her nerves. Why did he talk so much? Did he just decide to speak when she started eating. Cassie put her fork down, drank some water and closed her eyes. Deep breaths. Finally calming down she opened her eyes and looked at Sebastian and sighed. Did he have to be so annoying? Apparently so. She knew she wasn't maintaining a perfect face for the senior students and honestly she didn't care. He was getting seriously on her nerves.
Cassie looked at him with her electric blue eyes. "I don't think it makes it your buisness just because your silverware gets moved from my mood. Also I can be subtle and cunning when I want to, but right now I am not in the mood. Sebastian Leeds, I still think you should mind your business. I guess it's a pleasure to meet you." Cassie said and wiped a strand of blue hair from her face. This boy was very annoying. When was he going to stop talking? Probably never. Anyways she wanted to be nice so she could find friends here.

Sebastian raised an eyebrow.
"How wouldn't it be my business, Cassie?" He asked, unsure if she was being genuine or being intentionally antagonizing. "If you were reading a spell book, and I started kicking your chair, are you saying it wouldn't be your business to ask me to stop?"
Leaning back in his chair, Sebastian folded his arms. He simply watched Cassie, wondering, trying to figure her out. When the girl went quiet again, Sebastian considered leaving well enough alone, considering Cassie seemed to be unable to cope with being split from her twin, for whatever reason; Sebastian didn't have siblings, so that type of relationship and effect was lost on him.
"You need to understand that your twin will be in the same castle," Sebastian continued, deciding to try and at least smooth some of the confrontation over. It wasn't that he cared, so much that he didn't want to make enemies on his first day. Perhaps the second, but certainly not the first. "Only several floors above you. It is literally possible to meet anywhere between our Common Room and theirs, and everywhere else around that..."
Sitting forward, Sebastian put his hands flat on the table, as he narrowed his silver-blue eyes. He had heard something about twins in the past, and wondered if it was true...
"So, are you afraid you won't have a sense of individuality without your sibling around? Is that why you're this upset?"

Cassie rolled her eyes. Why was he still going on about this? "I suppose it would be. I guess your right." That is probably what he wanted to hear from her. That he was right and she was wrong. Anyways she was trying not to make enimies this year. At least not yet. She needed as many friends she could get, but it was hard for her to make friends. Socializing wasn't easy for her and hopefully it will Be soon. Until then she will try to make friends and not many enimies. Which will be hard for her to do.
"Yes I know he is still in the castle. I have never done things without him. It also feels kind of nice to not have him with me all the time, but still sad." She understood he was also trying to not make enimies. "What! No... I have individuality without him around. At least I think. That doesn't matter." She mentally face palmed Cassie wasn't the greasers liar she was the worst. "Well I'm kind of upset about that, but that isn't the main reason. He is the only person who understands me. And that is a hard task. So really I have no friends other than my brother."

Lucien sighed at the two people bickering near him. He had sat down a long ago but being the ghost-like eperson he was, no one noticed him. He looked over to the two Slytherins bickering back and forth with a glare. "Excuse me but as much as I love drama, you two are giving me quite a headache. Would you mind toning it down before you shatter my skull. Some of us like to relaxed while enjoying our meal." The Raven haired boy hissed at Cassie and Sebastian. He sighed before taking a bite of his food. He had practically lost his appetite already. He didn't mind easedropping on people's conversations but when it was practically being yelled right in your ear, he didn't want anything to do with it. He was also too lazy to get up and move from the others. Maybe he was lucky to have his younger twin in the same house. The two had never been extremely close, but it could possibly bring them together more. Maybe when the youngest Escanora sibling, Maven, joined they would all be close, then again if Maven was put in Slytherin he would stick by Aravis's side until she graduated. The heterochromatic boy envied how close Cassie and her brother seemed. Lucien's siblings barely had anything to do with him other than gossip or bug him about his potions progress.

Cassie turned her head towards Lucien. Had they really gotten that loud? It seemed so. She frowned and hoped Sebastian would be quiet. They were arguing quite loudly. "I'm sorry, but we were having a conversation and I don't think it was any of your buisness to tell me to be..." Cassie remembered what Sebastian had told her. It actually was Luscien's business. Since they were so loud. "Never mind. It is your business. I'll quite down a little bit. But not entirely I still have a lot to say to Sebastian." Cassie thought that Luscien had been a bit rude, but really she was the one who was rude for talking so loud.
Cassie hated being told she was too loud. Normally she wasn't very loud. But when she was arguing Cassie could get really loud. Now she felt a bit sorry for the boy. She was always to loud. And she hoped she hadn't hurt his ears that much. His head wouldn't really explode. Nobody was that loud. Not even Cassie stone was that loud, but she respected his wishes and quieted down and stopped talking. If she stopped talking she wouldn't have the urge to yell at Sebastian.

Alma noticed how taken aback Edric seemed to be at her words. Was it something she said? Or simply the amount? She knew that she tended to drown people in unnecessary information whenever she got excited, her younger sisters had made sure to point that out at every given opportunity.
She tried to adopt an apologetic smile.
"I am sorry if I'm talking too much, I tend to go a little overboard when I'm excited and seeing so many new things and new people around me...I did not mean to offend, in any case. You do not have to feel obligated, in any case, to cater to my unending curiosity. I admit asking about your family first thing was a touch too personal a question." Alma stopped herself before she continued to ramble on yet again, several questions burning at the tip of her tongue.
Instead, she busied herself with refilling her glass with water and help herself to the food in front of her. She listened in on the bickering close by. A boy introduced himself as Sebastian and continued to poke at the already agitated temper of a girl with pretty blue hair.
Alma raised an eyebrow, wondering how wise an idea that was. The girl looked ready to leap over the table and throttle the boy. Maybe she should intervene? Then again, it really wasn't any of her business and she didn't particularly want to get involved in this mess. Instead, she once again turned to Edric in search of a conversation partner.
"What do you think of Hogwarts so far, Edric?"

"No, it's fine, really," Edric tried to reassure Alma. "I'm just not used to people being as enthusiastic as you. My family, they are all...down to earth? I like it that you ask questions. The many people are just new for me. Everyone is talking and arguing over each other. You didn't do anything wrong."
He shot a look to where a blue-haired first year student was arguing with a boy the couldn't really see from his place at the table. With all the noise going on the hadn't understood exactly what their argument was about, but the raised voices were distracting him.
At home is parents only shouted when they were doing something particularly bad that could mean one of the Banes boys potentially losing a head. The only gathering he had ever been to that resembled the number of people in Great Hall had been a Winged Horse Race in Germany.
"Hogwarts is huge!" He raised his eyes to the ceiling above them for emphasis. The night sky on display was breathtaking. "I think I will need time to get used to having so many people around all the time. Where I live in the mountains it's a lot more quiet. We have more hippogriffs than people around."
He tried to smile at his own lame joke and hoped that Alma wouldn't think he was boring to talk to. She had been interested in the hippogriffs before he'd made her feel insecure about talking too much - which he really hadn't wanted to do. Now his own awkwardness had halted the conversation.
"Where do you come from?" he asked, trying to start the flow of conversation again. "Are your family scholars? I've never met anyone before who's read about hippogriffs. That's neat by the way, you sound like you know a lot about the matter."

Sebastian narrowed his eyes.
The Irish boy listened as another student spoke up, one with different colored eyes and reading glasses. He proceeded to interject, complaining of a headache, and asking the pair in mid-conversation to keep it down. Which was amusing, since Cassie had calmed somewhat since the beginning of their talk, and Sebastian wasn't prone to shouting.
"You're complaining of a headache, and people talking too loudly in a public dining area?" Sebastian asked, one eyebrow raised as he regarded the other boy. "You came to a crowded hall, quite literally named the Great Hall, in an attempt to find some peace and enjoy a quiet meal?"
Sebastian continued to stare, silver-blue eyes unblinking.
"You do realize how ludicrous that sounds? And unlike my prior issue, with my utensils being scattered about beyond my control, your problem seems to be your choice of location for a meal."
With a shake of the head, Sebastian looked back to Cassie, as he offered her a shrug. As far as the Irish boy was concerned, the pair had moved beyond the initial disagreement, even if eavesdroppers didn't understand that. In fact, Sebastian felt he had helped Cassie overcome some of those concerns by asking some difficult - for some - questions, which had resulted in the blue haired girl becoming quite conversational.
"As I was about to say, Cassie," Sebastian continued, turning to look at her. "The sooner you learn to rely on yourself, and not let your connection to a sibling define you, the better. This is your first day, friends won't happen immediately, but if you want I can offer to be an acquaintance... and while I don't particularly need friends, perhaps we can reach that point in the coming weeks and months."
Whether Cassie accepted or not, it wouldn't concern Sebastian. He was willing to develop his social shortcomings, as even someone used to solitude as Sebastian still had some need for contact and discussion. Just not usually in such public, crowded settings. And the conversation presently was admittedly quite odd, considering how it started, but there it was...
