The guide Noah posted there pretty much sums up what you can do to get started, but if you are looking for a roleplay partner, I'd suggest signing up for quill pals. I saw you already found the official partner searching thread. Other than that, you could also just go and look at people's profiles and owl them! That's what I did when I was new
