You don't need to be part of the Discord to be part of the teams. It's helpful for communication but that can also be done just as easily on site if you're active!

Discord is not a requirement but there is often a lot of information lost by not using discord. Discord is where a lot of real-time planning happens between users so you would have the greatest opportunity to provide input if you are a part of discord. But people have different levels of comfort as well as life circumstances (parents for instance disallowing in on minor users the use of Discord) that may prevent them from participating in Discord. So while invaluable it is not a requirement (nor will it be).

Just to let you know, in the first thirty days, you can have a special ability for Albany. As a side note, they do have to be 400+ words...

My special abilities are (first year) Perfectionist (second year) Healing Sage
and because of my wand wood and the dedication Noah has in Herbology and Astronomy, Noah tends to do well in those classes.
Edit: Yeah- Lear- uh- my dad won't let me get onto discord for a while- so- I kinda try to keep up with the Bulletin Board
