It didn’t take a genius to predict what she would do next. But that wasn’t the point, being tricky. The point was that she had a shot at the opposing Queen, a vulnerability she would make them pay for. She and Ileen incanted the same spell—while they had this chance, they might as well take it with the hardest-hitting spell they knew—Bridget careful to cast out to the side of her teammate. He dodged the first one, but with his weight shifted, he would not be able to change directions in time. Eyes narrowed, she saw right where she wanted the Flipendo to go. The exciting part was watching reality follow the mental line perfectly, blue light slamming into him.

That marked only her second offensive cast of the match, and though she wished that count was higher, at least this spell made up for the other’s miss, was something to be proud of. It might have been the best she’d ever cast while under the pressure of performance, actually, and the specifics of how she’d accomplished it would be filed into her memory to attempt to replicate later. Now, to finish this.

RPing as iNPC Alisa Sokolova.
Alisa had managed to dodge the incoming Flipendo just in time to not take it to the face and end up knocked back. She had had to evade enough similar attacks in her early years at Durmstrang to know how that worked, really. Her cousin didn't believe in holding back and enjoyed "showing her her place" too much not to take every chance he got at knocking her around. At least know she was actually allowed to hit back.

Time was ticking, the last grains of sand in the hourglass trickling out for our intrepid opponents. Still aflame, Jan sent one last Flipendo hurtling towards Santario, striking the Slytherin square-on before he passed out from the heat. It was Pericles' turn to signal a "Stop!" The duel came to a halt, just long enough for the unconscious Jan to be carted off the board, up to the hospital wing. Though struck, Santario was not out. She continued her offensive with a Flipendo striking Alisa. Alexander attempted the same, but missed, and Alisa hit Illowy with a Flipendo of her own. The Lubricus Ileen intended for Milosh backfired, causing her to slip and fall forcefully, while Bridget's Ventus managed only an impaired hit against the same target. Milosh managed to struggle enough against the wind to move into D4. Amidst all the chaos, Illowy and Karilyna stood still. Either they were tired, under pressure, or perhaps realizing that the end was right around the corner.

Their next volley of spells didn't go quite as well. Santario's Flipendo was well-cast, knocking the Bishop out of useful position. Her own Ventus was fine, though it only partially hit the Queen; there'd been an element of rushing to her movements to land one last hit before he left the square. That was where the success ended. In front of her, Ileen's attempt at the Slippery Jinx failed miserably. She could imagine that was an awful experience, slipping in your own spell. She landed rather hard on the grass, but she would be fine and Bridget wouldn't comment. If it had been her, any more attention drawn to her failure would be loathed.

Alexander missed, though when it was that close it really just came down to the dodger's skill. Illowy was perhaps too rocked by the Knockback Jinx that struck her to fire anything of her own. Most notably, the remaining Rook neglected the flames eating at his robes and shot a Flipendo at Santario. Bridget cringed as it hit; she hadn't watched her teammate take this much damage since their first duel, and perhaps not even then with the addition of healing spells pulling her back into consciousness. What she turned back to was the Rook, collapsed. Pericles' call to stop was heeded. It was a respectable way to go out, she supposed, taking a last stand.

That left the opposition with no Rooks and a wandless Queen. They all were battered, but the Vipers had a firm numbers advantage. And the clock was winding down; it wouldn't be long now until one side was declared a victor and the other walked off in defeat, hoping their other two teams would clinch successive wins. No encouragement would be offered by Bridget this time, the pressure of it all coming down to this weighing heavy. Would it be enough?

Santario had managed to get off a Flipendo in Alisa’s direction and turned back just in time to see a blazing blue light headed her way. There was no room to dodge this one, so she braced for it instead. Regardless it still forced her to take a step back and knocked the breath out of her. Thank merlin that he had allowed the flames to eat at him as he dropped to the ground. Santario needed the time to breathe and reassess the battlefield.

She reached up and wiped the sweat from her brow, rubbing it off on her thigh. Their Queen had moved out of range, which was fine enough; he still didn’t have a wand, Alisa no longer had a target, which just left the girl who hadn’t moved in a while. It truly was a shame she did not relish fighting against stuck people, but she really wanted this to be over. A glance had told her that Ileen had fallen, but the damage seemed minimal, and San knew she was strong enough to take it in stride. Illowy seemed to still be recovering from the blow she had taken and while Alex seemed on point it seemed his target was just a bit quicker.

It felt like she had been hit by a truck, and then it backed up and hit her again, then once more for good measure. Unfortunately, she was still standing. Whether that was unfortunate for her or the truck who knew. However, she could say that she was ecstatic that there would be no more duelling for a month or so now. "Almost done guys... Just hold out a little longer." Santario breathlessly addressed her teammates, but she was also talking to herself. That patch of grass in the shade over by the trees was looking really nice right about now.

All he could remember from that round was the stretcher taking Jan off. No no no no! Not another one. Now he regretted his decision to sacrifice him. Regretted the decision of not saving Rodion when they had the chance. Regretted the team's decision of electing him as leader. Winning or loosing didn't matter anymore. His teammates and friends had got hurt to the point they physically collapsed and had to have someone else take them off the board. And he wanted to do it back to the other team. Have them get fueled by the same sadness and rage he felt when he saw his team unable to stand up anymore. Who in their right mind thought this was fun? It wasn't fun. Not anymore. This pushed it's limits on being "just a game".

One. More. Round.

His wand lay discarded somewhere off the board. But he didn't need it anymore. As soon as this game was over her would march off the board. No shaking hands for good sportsmanship or any of that nonsense. Milosh was done with Chess Combat and dueling as a whole. He'd clench his fists, keeping his arms by his side and meeting everyone's gaze, his eyes lit up with several emotions of which only one word could be used to describe them. Dangerous

All or nothing. That really seemed to be Ileen's motto today. In retrospect, she would realize that she had succeeded just as many spells grandiose and above average, as completely missed. This time she felt a coldness in her arm after she had cast the spell and her legs suddenly pulled away. Brought down by her own spell.
Upset, she blew a strand of hair out of her face. Her buttocks and hands had made frequent contact with the ground during the hockey game, so this was nothing new and hopefully she had fallen with some dignity despite the surprise.
Quickly she fought her way to her feet and smoothed her hair with a quick movement of her hand, the wand thirsty for action in her hand. But it looked as if that was no longer necessary. Milosh had moved out of her line of fire during her fall. Her dark brown eyes quickly scanned the events on the field.
It looked good for her team, everyone was still standing and the other team had already suffered two losses.
Ileen couldn't help it, she looked back at Alexander and a grin appeared on her face that was almost a smirk. She proudly turned back to her opponents and casually propped one arm in her side. It looked like they might actually win.

Illowy wasn't quite sure what happened. Maybe that last knockback hit her harder then she'd realized. Maybe her mind was wandering more then she was aware as she watched yet another opponent get carted off the board and she hadn't even noticed the signal to start again. Whatever it was, her focus had been shaken until she took another knockback to the chest. Took the wind right out of her, but at least it brought her back to her senses. Pale eyes swept around herself, as she caught her breath. San had been hit again, but tough as nail she was still on her feet. Everyone else seemed alright at least, following proper course through the round.

Just a little bit longer. They all just needed to hang in a little bit longer.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Alexander breathed rapidly, he could feel his muscles getting more tired. Exhausting growing ever nearer. Sweat gathering on his brow. This had gone on longer than hoped, with both sides being relatively close. BUt soon this was going to be over. They had to just push on for a tiny bit longer. TO triumph in the end.

Only 10 more seconds, 10 more seconds that he had to engage in this battle and deal with a Team that was on average 1 year older than them. Just 10 more seconds and it would all be fine.

So Alexander took in one final deep breath, and then once more jumped into the action. Hoping that they would triumph in the end.
