Backdated to an unspecified break

It had been Meadow's idea: brewing a few bottles of Garroting Gas. What for was anyone's guess; but, she claimed she wanted to improve her potion brewing skills and get ahead of her classmates at Beauxbatons. It seemed a legitimate enough reason and Xailah had no other plans for the afternoon, so, with the help of her sister she gathered the ingredients they would be needing along with some protective equipment and their personal brewing kits, before heading outside to a shaded patch of greenery supporting a garden table and some chairs. Garroting Gas was no potion to work on indoors.

Xailah was kind enough to get the potion started for her sister by bringing an empty cauldron up to high heat over the lapping blue flame of a Bunsen burner. She'd then cross her arms over her chest while she waited for further action from her sister.

"Is that it?" The younger girl asked after noticing Xailah was not budging further. She eyed her sister expectantly before shooting a quick glance over the ingredients gathered for the potion.

"I said I would help you, not make the whole potion for you." The eldest chided, following her sibling's gaze. She'd know what the blue-eyed girl was looking at. Truthfully, Xailah just didn't want to be the one having to handle the dragon dung.

Meadow knew there would be no coaxing her sister. With a grimace and a groan, meadow added five measures of dragon dung into the cauldron and pressed it flat against the inner walls of the cauldron with the underside of a spoon. The excrement was then allowed to cook in the cauldron for two minutes, until it filled the air with its odor and burned against the sides of the hot cauldron. Both sisters were spared having to inhale the rancid smell, their sensitive noses guarded by the precautionary face coverings they donned before starting the potion.

Xailah kept time, once those two minutes were up she quickly reduced the heat to low while Meadow carefully measured out 11 fl. oz of ethanol to add to the cauldron. Xailah was back to keeping time again, watching as the ethanol was left to simmer for twelve minutes. "I'll cut some flower heads while we wait." The eldest said, reaching for three pristine flowers. With her thumb and index finger she pinched the stems tightly, snapping the greens in half and separating the flower heads from their stalks. She discarded the stems but laid the heads down on a chopping board where she sliced them hair-thin with a knife.

A brief glance up from her work was spared to check the cauldron. Everything looked to be coming together nicely... as nicely as ethanol and dragon dung could come together, anyway. With a slight tilt of her head she gestured to a bundle of dried nettles. "The ethanol mixture should be done simmering now, you can add a measure of dried nettles to the cauldron." Meadow acknowledged the instruction with a head bob and did just as asked, dropping exactly one measure of nettles into the smelly ethanol-dung mix. Xailah followed this by scraping the sliced flower heads off the cutting board and into the cauldron.

"We stir now, right?" The blue-eyed girl looked up from her stirring handiwork, seeking confirmation.

Xailah nodded.

"Easy peasy, I can do that!" Eagerly, Meadow grabbed for a clean spoon. First, she stirred the potion in progress thrice clockwise. Then she stirred twice counter-clockwise before finishing the stirring with one last mix clockwise. "Done. What now?" Tapping the spoon on the cauldrons lip to get the excess mixture off, she would set it to the side with the rest of the dirty instruments used for this project.

"It has to simmer." Xailah informed, reaching for a piece of nearby reading material as she did so.

"For how long?"

"Eighteen minutes." She said, distantly, flipping over a page in her book with a slender finger. Meadow would shoot up from her seat and yank off her face covering, dropping it onto the table in front of her with little thought.

"Great! We can have some tea while we wait!" The youngest chimed eagerly before making the mistake of looking back at the table. Her eyes fell on the dragon dung, her lips curling with a frown and her stomach following suit. "Oh- um. Or maybe not. I don't think I'm much in the mood for tea anymore." Xailah would hide a tight-lipped smirk behind her book, at this. "I'll find something quiet to do." Meadow added sheepishly.

Those eighteen minutes were anything but quiet, but they would pass quickly. While they waited, the sisters had prepped a new clean cauldron and a sieve. A little teamwork would make the next step easier: as Xailah poured the potion from the first cauldron into the new one, Meadow held the sieve steady over it's mouth, allowing the liquid inside to be strained with ease. Once the potion was transferred, the new cauldron was placed away from all heat sources and allowed to cool for ten to fifteen minutes. When steam was no longer visible on the potions surface, Xailah coaxed out some saltpeter from a small corked bottle into the palm of her hand.

Meadow would see that her sisters movements were notably quicker than they were a second ago. When the older heiress began shuffling around the workspace in search for something, Meadow leaned over the cauldron with interest (and no face covering to protect her from any potential mishaps).

"We only have ninety seconds to get this potion in a vial, so we must work quic-" Xailah began, holding up the item she had been looking for: a glass vial and a tight-fitting cork.

"I feel dizzy." Meadow muttered airily.

"Get your face away from the cauldron." Meadow was practically yanked out of her seat by the sudden force of her sister's hand pulling her away from the Garroting Gas' slowly rising haze. Not looking to waste more time or risk an accident- courtesy of her sibling- Xailah quickly retrieved her wand and waved it over the now completed potion. The Garroting Gas was then hastily bottled and corked- there was no chance she'd be letting Meadow handle this potent concoction right away.

Potion | Antidote to Uncommon Poisons
Ingredients required |
2 Fire Seeds
3 Chizpurfle Carapaces
2 Billywig Stings
3 Measures of Powdered Graphorn Horn

Roleplay (200 words min) |

Like last year, Opeila was not going to let the year pass without adding to her personal potion storage. Which was more and more going to turn into some kind of first aid kit really...
Once all O.W.L. exams were written and done, it seemed like a lot of tension had fallen off the fifth years but also the professors a bit, lessons were suddenly a lot more relaxed. That also meant a bit of time for free practice in potions class, which Opeila intended to fully use.

The fifth year had never liked potions much, but after five years of school, she found herself warming up to it a bit. It would still never be her favorite subject, but there was something peaceful in the sound of boiling potions and preparing ingredients. And Opeila took special care this year, all of the potions she was brewing now, she fully intended to use if needed.

Last year she had prepared an antidote to common poisons, this year she would prepare the same thing for uncommon poisons. The amount of times that food and beverages at events were spiked- a joke she found to be of very bad taste generally- it would be more than easy to slip something serious in there and have a dozen kids drink/eat it before they noticed that it was not the typical confusing concoction they just ingested.

It was an easy potion, one they had learned in first year and that took the fifth year not much effort.
Before getting started, she gathered and measured all the ingredients, so she would only have to prepare them and add them to her cauldron.

First came the fire seeds, which she threw into her mortar to crush. A quick step, as they didn't have to be a powder, she only crushed them into rough pieces and threw them into the cauldron. The chizpurfle carapaces were also split open in no time and followed the fire seed pieces.

Quickly Opeila stirred the potion precisely five times anti clockwise.

The next step took a little longer, unlike the fire seeds, the billywig stingers needed to be crushed into a powder. It was probably Opeila's least favorite out of all the ways an ingredient could be prepared. The scratching sounds of the mortar made her shudder and it really took some patience to turn a solid ingredient into a powder. But eventually she could also add that to her cauldron and continue stirring, twice and clockwise this time. After checking again that the potion matched the description of the instructions now, she waved her wand over it and turned down the heat. One glance at the clock told her she would still have time to complete the potion this lesson, even after waiting for an hour.

While the potion was boiling, Opeila started cleaning up her table. The last ingredient, powdered graphhorn horn was already prepared, so she went to rinse the mortar, clean her knives and vials and put them back into her bag. At 55 minutes, she decided she had waited long enough and threw the powder into her cauldron. Quickly she turned the heat up, her eyes on the clock, watching the second hand move 20 times before taking the cauldron off the flame.

A last time she stirred the potion three times clockwise and waved her wand over it.
Content with the result, she started to fill it into vials, careful not to burn herself.

May 24, 2024. Hogwarts

With no other company than her beloved cat Orpheus, Mother Nature and a silver mirror of duty, Astrea had very little use for such magnificent brews as the revival potion except for her own practicality. She, who had long ago discarded the mere concept of ball attendance for both her physical and mental well-being, had unwittingly witnessed far more than her fair share of danger in her six years. Even so, it was always better to be prematurely overprepared than under, especially within Hogwarts' unpredictable grounds. Bereft though she was of her mother's well-equipped potions laboratory, it was no great surprise to see the young heir haunting the empty potions classroom late at night.

With all her ingredients arranged and her notebook as a reference, Astrea set out a cauldron of purified water and tied up her robe sleeves. In went three neatly chopped, bobbing murtlap tentacles before she readied her next ingredients. Drained of their venom and dried as they were, it was quick work for Astrea to coarsely grind 3 lionfish spines in a mortar and pestle. Adding the powdered spines and 2 measures of salt into the simmering cauldron, she put her used tools aside to stir thrice clockwise. Unlike the lengthy brewing times of other potions, this concoction required constant supervision— as such, there was very little opportunity to clean as one went. Fortunately, this involved preparation also resulted in a relatively straightforward process and, in the case of this specific potion, no volatile ingredient remnants left out for long.

5 drops of wormwood essence and a sprig of dittany later, all Astrea needed to do was stir 5 times counterclockwise and finally add a final touch of magic to the brew. After waving her wand over the simmering concoction and putting out her flame, she carefully bottled the large batch into four ribbon-wrapped vials. From within the glass, the newly made potions gleamed an unnaturally vibrant poppy red, seeming to reflect pure vitality off of the dim lights of the potions classroom.

Potion: Muffling Draught
Ingredients required: 4 Drops of Lethe River Water, 2 Bat Spleens, 2 Eel Eyes, 3 Leeches

Roleplay (398/200)

April 24, 2024. Hogwarts.

With her first batch of brews finished, Astrea moved on to her second round of potioneering. Flipping back to the muffling draught, there was some merit to practising beginner brews when given the chance. This specific potion seemed well-suited for the reticent pureblood, whose elevated sense of dignity disparaged unnecessary banter in conflict.

Carefully adding 4 drops of Lethe River water to her clean cauldron, Astrea replaced the bottle's cap and set to finely dicing 2 bat spleens. With them incorporated into the potion-in-progress, she then washed her hands before stirring twice in a clockwise direction and raising the heat to high. Theoretically— and perhaps more expectedly— such a task would be more easily solved with a brief cleaning charm but Astrea had always preferred to avoid contaminating her tools — her wand being her most important — and other ingredients. The Muffling Draught's components were far from dangerous, but it was a good habit to keep and one well-trained into her.

In the 10 minutes to wait, Astrea busied herself by tidying her work area of spleen residue and returning her used ingredients to the shelves where they belonged. Without the long lulls in brewing time common in other potions, she also began grinding her three leeches into a dark, sticky paste until she needed to tend to the potion once more. After 10 minutes, she reduced the cauldron’s flame to a low simmer and delicately ladled 2 eel eyes into the mixture. Low in liquid ingredients, the eyes rolled accusingly about as she stirred twice anti-clockwise. Using a silver spoon, she combined 3 measures of the leech paste into the simmering cauldron and, stirring another five turns anti-clockwise, allowed the concoction to break down at medium heat. At this stage, instructions on the exact amount of brewing time were vague— strangely open to interpretation considering the otherwise deliberate science of potion-making. As such, Astrea erred on the side of caution, setting a timer to brew for 30 minutes. Skirting the edges of both ends of the extreme risked room for error, which could result in a less potent potion at best and toxically wasted ingredients at worst. Establishing a well-rounded, easily tracked time frame avoided that.

After half an hour, Astrea imbued the cauldron with a final wand waving and, watching the potion settle into a vibrant, unmistakable blue, deemed her results dependably sufficient to bottle.

Potion | Forgetfulness Potion
Ingredients required | 2 Drops of Lethe River Water, 2 Valerian Sprigs, 2 Measures of Standard Ingredient, 4 Mistletoe Berries
Roleplay (200 words min) |

Potions had never been one of the classes that made very big of an impression on Renelle. The syllabus, lesson activities, professor - they are all simply just fine. Not particularly fun, but not downright horrible either.

But with the end of the year rapidly approaching, maybe she ought to brew a few potions on her own for once. It might be fun, and who knew? Maybe they would come in handy during the holidays!

Her choice was the Forgetfulness Potion. It was easy to see why. Amnesia was so in right now - it seemed like everyone was brewing this potion nowadays. And now Renelle was going to as well.

She chose a lovely Saturday afternoon and headed down to the Potions room, with the intent of leaving with a brand new flask of potion. Firing up the cauldron and flipping her textbook to the corresponding page, Renelle began her Potion mission.

Uncorking the bottle of Lethe River Water, she carefully let 2 drops fall into her cauldron. As per the instructions, Renelle heated the mixture up for 20 seconds, then added 2 Valerian sprigs.

Three clockwise stirs, then a wave of her wand. The worst part of Potion-brewing, and part of why the Ravenclaw had been so reluctant to try her hand at the practice earlier, was the waiting. Renelle was too paranoid to leave her cauldron, so she opted to lean against the wall and stare at the potion while it brewed.

An hour passed, and finally, it was over. Getting out the 2 measures of Standard Ingredient plus 4 mistletoe berries, Renelle added them to the mortar and crushed them with the pestle, until they were a medium-fine powder.

She stirred the mixture five times in the anti clockwise direction, and with a wave of her wand, Voilà! The potion was done.

Potion | Pepper-Up Potion
Ingredients required | Honey, Bicorn, Murtlap Tentacles, Murtlap Essence, Graphorn Horn, Mandrake Root, Limpet, Hemlock, Dried Nettles

Healing Magic. Zach collected all the things that related to healing magic like a mad, first for his literal madness, and second for his stock if anything happened to him or his friends. So Zach went to the Potions Classroom to make this Pepper-Up Potion. Once he was there, he prepared all the tools and ingredients. Not like any other potion he had made, this potion required a different size of cauldron. So with his strength, Zach took the Standard Size 3 Cauldron and put it on the table.

He firstly added 3 measures of honey to the cauldron. And he did muggle way to light the fire under the cauldron to the medium heat. Last time he used incendio, it was hazardous. Then he added the horn of bicorn and left it there for the exact 7 minutes. How did he make it exactly 7 minutes? Mechanical clock. He immediately waved his wand after he restrained his eyes to see the clock so he wouldn't miss any beat.

The next, he put 3 Murtlap Tentacles into the cauldron. Ew, he could say. Then he took off his Murtlap Essence vial from his satchel and added a drop of it into the cauldron. And the cloud of smoke steamed off the cauldron and made Zach cough for some moments.

A Graphorn Horn was added just after Zach was relieved from his coughing. Then the cauldron was left on heat for another 7 minutes. Yes, he stared at the mechanical clock again like a mad, forcing his eyes to not miss any tick of the clock's hands. Then he waved his wand on the mixture.

He took off a container of sliced mandrake root. He did the slicing in the greenhouse so no necessary fainting would happen in the Potions Classroom. Zach added the sliced mandrake root to the cauldron. Then he added a measure of limpet and a pinch of hemlock not long after. Once his hands were empty, he immediately added two measures of dried nettles to the cauldron. He did it so quickly so no time would be wasteful. After waiting for some moments to see the mixture turned to be like the book said, he waved his wand once again over the cauldron. He left it to sit for some minutes so it could cool down. Then he put it in the vials before he cleaned his mess and left the Potions Classroom.

Potion | Confusing Concoction

Roleplay (200 words min) |

The Confusing Concoction - quite an interesting potion that had intrigued Renelle ever since she first learnt of it. Not in an evil-villain-try-to-take-over-the-world-by-stirring-up-chaos-in-a-school-of-all-places-for-some-reason kind of way, of course.

She chose another lovely Saturday - everyone knew those were the best for potion-making, and headed down to the potions room once more. Tracing the familiar path, Renelle was practically bursting with excitement! She’d bought Jeff along, which she technically wasn’t sure was allowed. She just stuffed him in her bag and hoped no one would look under the mess of ingredients.

Entering the room, Renelle settled down in front of her cauldron and started. First, she chopped 3 sprigs of Skurvy Grass into small pieces and added 2 measures into the cauldron. The textbook stated that the next step was to grind 2 sprigs of Lovage into a paste on one’s mortar, so that was what the Ravenclaw did.

Then, Renelle added 2 measures of Standard Ingredient into the mortar and combined it with the Lovage-paste. She added the contents of the mortar into her cauldron, and carefully stirred clockwise, five times precisely. She definitely wasn’t taking any chances with this!

A wave of her wand, and the time had come to let the potion brew. She sighed, leaning against the wall. This was definitely the worst part, and it was no contest. At least the first year had dear Jeff for company this time. Oh, faithful, wonderful Jeff. Truly too good for this world.

The half hour seemed to edge by, so slow Renelle was tempted to go find the person who wrote her textbook and turn them into a frog. Luckily, she managed to make it past the minutes. And she didn’t know how to turn someone into a frog anyways, so that was that.

Renelle heated the mixture to 250 for 30 seconds, then lowered it back to a medium heat. She pulled a Sprint of Sneezewort into rough pieces, throwing them into her cauldron. The girl stirred once anti-clockwise, before grinding one spring of Fluxweed with her mortar and adding the resulting paste into the cauldron.

After that, all that was left was leaving the potion to brew for around 5 minutes, another wave of Renelle’s wand, and it was finally completed!

Potion | Black Fire Potion
Ingredients required |
3 Sprigs of Mint
2 Bursting Mushrooms
1 Fluid Ounce of Salamander Blood
2 Dried Wartcaps

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
Opeila wasn't done yet, oh she wasn't done by far. Having attended countless Hogwarts events and after being present for several attacks, the fifth year had noticed the same pattern that most of the students who had been around for more than a year must have noticed- kids liked to set stuff on fire and maybe it was time to get prepared for that kind of stuff.

Another free practice lesson was used for this potion. Again Opeila took some time to prepare the ingredients before starting to brew. That meant crushing two dried wartcaps to a powder in her mortar, which she cleaned thoroughly before starting to crush three sprigs of mint into a paste. Finally she cut the two bursting mushrooms into slices and measured one ounce of salamander blood.

That meant the most annoying part was out of the way and Opeila could start the actual brewing.
First she added a teaspoon of the mint paste into her cauldron, followed by the mushroom slices, then she stirred, three times clockwise. When she was sure that the potion looked the way it was supposed to, she waved her wand and turned up the heat. Quickly she glanced at the clock. Ten minutes to tidy up her table a bit.

With an effortlessly cast Scourgify, both her mortar and knife were clean again and Opeila stored them in her bag.
When the ten minutes were up, she turned down the heat to a light simmer and added the salamander blood. Then she stirred again, eight times counter-clockwise this time.
Finally the wartcap powder joined the other ingredients and Opeila started counting to 20 seconds. Then she turned off the heat and stirred again, 7 times clockwise.

Happy with the result, Opeila finished the potion by waving her wand and carefully poured the still hot potion into vials.

Potion | Blood Replenishing Potion
Ingredients required |
12 fluid ounces of Honeywater
3 Dittany Leaves
2 Fairy Wings
2 Valerian Roots
2 Flower Heads

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
The regular occurrence of fire was one thing, but another had not left the young Slytherin's mind. Or her nightmares rather. Past October, she and some others were attacked in the forbidden forest, resulting in some of them almost bleeding to death. Unable to control her own body, Opeila had been unable to evade the stone that was buried in her leg, that if pulled out might have meant her death.

Jack and Howard were both stabbed as well- frankly it was a miracle that none of them had died that night.
Opeila didn't have any more energy for miracles. Next time- should there be a next time- she would be prepared.

Like before, she used a free practice lesson for this and prepared the ingredients first. That meant dicing two valerian roots, as well as setting two flower heads, 12 ounces of honeywater, three dittany leaves and two fairy wings to the side. Opeila poured the honeywater into the cauldron first and added the dittany leaves to her mortar while the honeywater was simmering.

Carefully she crushed the leaves into a paste and added it to the cauldron. She stirred clockwise four times, watching the paste mix with the honeywater and then added the fairy wings to the still dirty mortar. Maybe Opeila was being weird but she hated everything about this step. Not only did she have to crush the wings of a creature they were stolen from, but in this dirty mortar as well...
Once the wings were a pulver, she added it to the cauldron as well and waved her wand over it.

Finally she could clean her tools, get rid of the final remnants of dittany and fairy wing pulver, while the potion brewed. Due to the length of the lesson she couldn't give it 90 minutes, after around 70 minutes, she continued with the last steps. Opeila turned off the heat and stirred again, five times clockwise, then she counted to 30, before the diced valerian roots followed the other ingredients into the cauldron.

Again she let it brew, for 10 minutes this time, before adding the flower heads, stirring three more times, anti-clockwise and waving her wand over it.
Finally she poured the finished potion into vials.

Potion | Garroting Gas
Ingredients required | Ethanol, Dragon Dung, Dried Nettle, Saltpeter, Flowers Heads, 2 cauldrons (size 2 or larger)

Roleplay (200 words min) | WC 394
Reducio
Garroting Gas certainly was a big step forward, much riskier and more dangerous than potions she had brewed before. Lindsey carefully reflected on the chance she might inhale the toxic gas herself and render unconscious before heading for the potions classroom, but finally made up her mind to test her skill out. And so she gathered all her ingredients and cauldrons, and crawled out of the Hufflepuff Common Room door.

As soon as she settled herself down in the dungeons, she started to heat an empty cauldron. Once she felt the air on top of it was heated enough, she put 5 measures of Dragon Dung into it, carefully pressing the dung against the sides of the cauldron so that it struck on the surface. Dragging a watch out of her pocket, she waited for 2 minutes until the clock ticked, when the Dragon Dung burnt to the side of the cauldron and became fragrant. She then adjusted the heat to a relatively low temperature, and then added 11 fl. oz of Ethanol into it. Lindsey patiently waited the Ethanol simmering for 12 minutes - she dragged out a potions book in the meantime - and when the time expired, she put 1 measure of Dried Nettle and then Sliced Flower Heads into the cauldron. 3 stirs clockwise, 2 stirs counter-clockwise, and then 1 final stir clockwise - good, now she had to leave the mixture simmer for another 18 minutes.

A period of rest, and when the mixture was simmered and the watch ticked, Lindsey emptied and strained the liquid into the second cauldron she had brought. She checked it for being cool and had no dung residue transferred as well, and left the liquid to be cooled in the cauldron for another 10-15 minutes. She took a deep breath, prepared 1 measure of Saltpeter, and there she went - in 90 seconds the gas would be ready, and she’d gotta be quick in order to vial it and keep herself from the possible consequences. Lindsey added Saltpeter into it, nimbly picked her wand up and waved over the cauldron, then hastily dragged vials out and transferred the potion into the vials - oh Merlin, she felt a bit dizzy despite holding her breath already - Lindsey sealed the vials with airtight corks, and examined it with satisfaction. Another potion done. What next?

Potion | Antidote to Uncommon Poisons
Ingredients required | Fire Seeds, Chizpurfle Carapaces, Billywig Stings, Graphorn Horn

Roleplay (200 words min) | WC 254
Reducio
Despite her interest in researching the world of poisons, it wouldn’t be so appealing if you didn’t have any antidotes. If she messed anything up during the process and poisoned herself, she definitely needed some first aid. So her next choice would be a fine Antidote to Uncommon Poisons, relatively easy to brew but absolutely useful.

Lindsey added 2 fire seeds into the mortar, and roughly crushed the seeds to break them into pieces. She then dropped them into her cauldron, and then split open 3 Chizpurfle carapaces. Adding the 3 split-up Chizpurfle carapaces to the cauldron as well, she stirred the mixture 5 times counter-clockwise. Then, 2 Billywig Stings were counted out from her pile of ingredients, added to the mortar, and Lindsey ground them into a fine powder. She carefully poured the powder into her cauldron, stirred 2 times clockwise, and then waved her wand. She set the heat to low, and sat back, idly watching the bubbles in the cauldron - it would be a good 40-60 minutes of brewing before she could do something more.

Finally she survived through the long enforced idleness, and it was time for the next action. Lindsey added 3 measures of powdered graphorn horn into the cauldron, and turned the heat high then boiled it for 20 seconds. She agilely snatched the cauldron off the flames in gloves as soon as the time expired, put the whole cauldron aside, and stirred the mixture 3 times clockwise. A wave of wand, and everything was neatly completed.

Potion | Babbling Beverage
Ingredients required | Poppy, Valerian, Aconite, Unicorn Hair, Dittany

Roleplay (200 words min) |
Reducio
Letters from her parents had been a rather stressful affair, but even more so now that summer was fast approaching. She didn't want to think about her family plans, custody disputes, or, an even more dreadful prospect, the slowly advancing threat of her parents - or, at least, her dad; she wasn't sure if muggle parents were looped in or not - getting wise to the especially fragrant rubbish fire that was her grades.

Her dad's most recent owl had been shoved into the deep abyss of her messy trunk, and rather than think about it she'd made her way down to the dungeons, eager to practice for a class she felt moderately good at, most days.

While she didn't personally need Babbling Beverage to gum up her thoughts as they escaped her mouth (she managed this one well enough on her own) it was a particularly fun potion, and a useful one to have in your arsenal at that. Setting out her mortar, she plucked the head of a dried poppy flower and crushed it into a powder before dumping it unceremoniously into her cauldron. The Valerian Sprigs required much less preparation than the poppy had, and she was able to toss two sprigs of them in with the poppy powder.

Timing was everything with potions, and she'd messed up before by getting distracted during a task, or just plain taking too long with it. As such, she put on her protective gloves before stirring three times, counter-clockwise, that way she was immediately ready to add three aconite blossoms to the mixture as soon as the previous step had been completed. Waving her wand over her cauldron, she was now faced with her least favorite part of the potion brewing process: waiting.

Thirty minutes later, a time during which she'd mostly entertained herself by drawing little doodles of Professor Regan, her potion was ready to continue, and she carefully added one unicorn hair to offset the poison. She stirred three times, clockwise, added a sprig of dittany, and then stirred 5 times more in the opposite direction. She waved her wand over the potion and, deeming it complete, set out to bottle it.
