Fair warning, most schools do not block Hio because we are good at what we do, but if they see students in your specific school using school devices during school hours accessing the site... sometimes they wise up and block the site. Not saying anyone is doing that, but make sure you do your school stuff on your school devices during school hours so those rare glances don't get blocked by your school.

Especially when multiple people visit the site, too.

actually same
the school computers are so annoying!
Never was a fan of GoGuardian or the chromebooks >c and the fact that they mandated google chrome (would not let anyone install edge or any other browsers. They locked all downloads to be password protected, and if you're under investigation for whatever reason, they shut off your access to google (search) and you have to access google classrooms via url. Everything else is restricted and is password protected unless unlocked by IT or by someone with the password, but given that they're not going to give the password away, IT will unlock it through their computers.

That's a personal gripe because I've had it happen to me several times. I remember getting them first in 2017, the chromebooks, we were able to do so many things. Then in 2018, they started cracking down, goguardian was used and all. In 2019-2020, so many sites were blocked. 2021-2022, I couldn't access any of my stuff for criminal justice because it was "inappropriate" (had to do with murder.. and research... plus everything on Gacy was blocked and I had to do a presentation on it). 2022-2023, more sites were locked. 2023 I graduated, but according to my brother, more sites were blocked, yahoo, outlook, mail platforms were blocked outside of gmail. You couldn't even switch accounts while logged in on the chromebook.

H.io got blocked in 2024. I remember trying to log on for the first time in the new school year, and the "BLOCKED BY GOGAURDIAN" page came up. I wanted to rip my hair out.

With the rise of technology, the more "creative" ways to block what you can access at school. I like the idea of all students having technology for school related things, but imho, it is getting very controlled.
