FAQ — Questions
Hjørdis Jensen wrote: 7 Mar 2022, 16:12You should be indexed by the time either of those starts as it usually takes no more than two weeks for them to get back to you (unless there are changes being requested). If they ask for changes, the sooner you do those, the sooner you can get yourself indexed. In general, it will likely be done by that time if you make the changes at a reasonable speed, if there are any.

However, in general, we try to be as inclusive as possible. There are some things you will not be able to even enter without being indexed - such as the duelling team. However, for the most part, as long as you've applied and you're waiting, we will try and let you take part as much as we can. In this instance, you should be able to join the events but you would be unable to take an action (such as casting a spell) or anything since you don't have approved stats or abilities.

For the hexwizard, there will be a cutoff by which you have to be fully indexed before you can join - this is because the trials require it. However, I believe you'd be able to join in the roleplay threads (such as putting your name into the goblet) whilst waiting.

Note: This does, however, depend on the moderators. They might decide that you need to be fully indexed before entering. But where it's not your fault (i.e. you're waiting for approval and have done everything on your end), we will try and be as accommodating as possible.

But you should be indexed by that time, as long as you make any changes (if they request any) at a reasonable pace and let them know. If it reaches over 14 days and you've not been approved or marked as pending with an explanation as to why, reach out to one of the team (listed in the first post) as it might just have been missed.
Ahh gotcha. I'm still new to the site so I don't know about everything going on yet but I'm slowly getting to know everything, sometimes it takes me a bit longer than others to understand and retain it but I think I'm moving along pretty well! I'm on every day as I'm currently on disability and have to stay at home all day since I can't walk. And Hogwarts has now become my second life/family hahaha so I'm pretty much on ALL the time every day. Shhhhhh I do have a life hahahahaha.

But yeah, if I need to make any edits I can usually do it instantly as soon as I get the notification. ^^

How do I find out what the Hexwizard cutoff time is? Or do you not know yet?

No problem! After I wrote it I thought about it more and was like 'well I could have thought about it some more before I posted....' But I was too excited and didn't think it out too much. Sorry about that! I knew about the 2 week thing but for some reason my brain didn't process it...

I don't know yet - so I can't guarantee it.

If I had to guess:
- The roleplay part of putting your name into the goblet can be done without being indexed
- The champions (who select the team) will be given a deadline for when they need to submit their team (most likely a bit before the first trial). They'll very likely only pick people who've been indexed - because that's a requirement for it.

The first trial isn't until Sept I think (it says the times in the announcement. Of the top of my head, it's Sept but could be wrong). Sooo I imagine, they'd be finalising their team in the summer and want to have that ready by end of August.

So there should be plenty of time but this is a guess, at this stage.

This is my former staff account.

FAQ — Questions
I can clarify, I usually do registration and am also currently helping work on the upcoming blossom ball/ goblet of fire stuff as well, which is why registration is slower than usual. There is another mod that works on registration too, but I don't usually ask them to step in unless I think I won't be able to do them before the 14 day grace period.

As Nora said, the thread to submit your name into the goblet is for roleplay, and won't require anything besides your imagination. As you likely read in the Hexwizard FAQ, the champions will be picking a team. It is not even required that anyone do this upcoming RP to be on the team, but there is a good chance that enthusiasm and activity will be a big part of why people are chosen. You can expect this thread shortly after iNPCs arrive, probably March 20th, and it won't have a strict deadline.

For the ball, it's starting April 2nd. Balls are moderated events, but you can often be fine going in without being registered, you just can't do actions that require stats, abilities, or spells. If you're active though, there is little to no chance that you won't be registered by then. I do most of my hio stuff on my phone, but registration is the one thing I can't do anywhere but on my desktop, so it often gets saved for my days off work.

Gotcha. Yeah, take your time, I'm sure you'll have lots of things to take care of, I don't mind waiting at all :):) Hope you'll be able to get things done but make sure you rest irl too!

Yup. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with for HT. Where is the HT thing going to take place, do we have a place yet or no? Will it be in the same thread as the iNPCs when they arrive on March 20th, or is it going to be a different place? Sorry if this isn't the place to write questions like this, let me know if you need me to post these types of things somewhere else. Even if Kim doesn't get chosen, I'll still be around to help out or do rp or whatever you need :):) If you ever need any help let me know if I can do it!

Alright sounds good to me! Thank you for explaining :):)

FAQ — Questions
I think this is as good a place as any to ask questions. The Discord is also a really good place to get quick responses on questions you might have, we have a help channel there which usually gets answers in minutes, and we also just generally have a nice community that is willing to help anyone who is lost or curious. Besides that, many staff members will gladly field questions you have about their subjects or areas of expertise by owl, and there is a mentor/mentee program now that is specifically engineered to help newer people understand the site better, though that doesn't really apply to questions about future plans on the site.

In general, the moderators/ staff juggle a lots of balls in the air at any given time, so until anything is officially announced (setting bulletin board or announcements to notify is a good idea if you want to know what's new to the site at any given time,) it can be subject to change. So most of the time, the answer to the question "what will ___ be" is "you'll know when it's announced." I can tell you though that iNPC entrance threads and the name submission thread will be separate, but not much more than that.

FAQ — Questions
I was wondering if there was a post I could look at regarding the year system and how it works, like how going up a year works, etc. etc.

FAQ — Questions
We do not have an active post to my knowledge, but here is something I pulled from a deleted post from last graduation. The message gets posted yearly when it reaches graduation time, so you will likely see this again. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I hope it helps.

Reducio
To move up to next year, you need to satisfy 2 criteria:
1.) You must make a character encyclopedia and be on the official index [LINK] page before July 1.
2.) You must be registered on the site before July 1.[/left]

For those that do not wish to move up to the next year, perhaps they just joined the community recently and feel that they could get more out of being a first year until next year, please contact me and your HOH before July 1 or simply never make an encyclopedia page. (The former is a better idea, everyone should have a profile page that they can call theirs).

Common Questions:
1.) Do I need to complete all of my homework/classes before I move up to next year? No, the homework system is an optional system that you do not have to participate in. The homework system provides you and your House Points which may lead to some pride or some prizes. In addition, homework is also a source of potions and spells that you can learn for your character.

2.) Can I do last year's homework when I move up to next year? Yes you can but we do intend to eventually change this because this creates a hazardous backlog of assignments that players can pile onto a Professor all at once. But for now you can do previous assignments.

3.) I just joined the site a week ago, can I graduate to next year? Yes, if you get yourself registered in Index before July 1st.

4.) I am already a second/third year, that means I must already be in Index right? No, not necessarily. We do biannual activity checks on player accounts. If you had not logged onto the site in over 6 months, you may have been removed from Index. Why? We do this because we have to manually move players from one year to the next. This is a tedious process that is very time consuming and we have thousands of accounts. In addition, we want to reward players that are active with game progression. Please check the [INDEX] page and make sure that your name is listed. If not, please post in the Registration Thread

5.) I am still lost/confused. Is there a 'How to Guide' for this? This Link reviews everything we need for a player to Register to Index.

6.) Any additional considerations? We had a recent update to trunks. They now follow a standardized format (link) and only allow limited code. A Trunk is necessary to be registered in Index. Please follow these instructions otherwise they will not approve your trunk.

Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....

FAQ — Questions
There is an entry in the FAQ about graduation as well:
When will we graduate to the next year?
Reducio
Graduation happens each real year in the beginning of July. All the players whom are registered on the Index and have logged into the site at least once since the beginning of the year, will be automatically moved up to the next year.

Please note that the homework system is not connected to the graduation and it's not required to meet any requirements there. Though all the spells and potions, which were taught (via homework) in the previous year, can be added upon request to the character's trunk after the graduation to the next year.

Any player that does not want to move up to the next year (for example, if they joined shortly before graduation and haven't had time to properly RP their first year), are free to owl any Head of House and express their desire to not be moved up.
